From day one we were told that we would only get out of this course what we were willing to put into it; Something they reiterated at every new technology learned. Still, they offered one-on-one tutoring for those who needed it, and were always active on slack even late at night where I would sometimes be stuck on an exercise that I couldn't finish in class and needed to reach out.
In addition to learning the technologies used in the industry, we also learned about the 'best practices' of the Software Engineering world, and mindsets and strategies to help us tackle the challenges placed on us during the class; The most important ones - in my opinion - being
"Never be too proud to ask for help",
"Taking a break is the easiest way to keep yourself from burning out",
"Learn your team's strengths so you know where to go when you need help and their weaknesses so you can help build them up",
and - Most importantly - "There's very few wrong ways to solve a problem."
Even when COVID-19 hit and on-site operations were halted in the interest of public health, We moved our courses online, extended our timeline (1 extra week to make sure we were adjusted for remote learning), and even adjusted our start times to make sure everyone was in the best position to continue learning.
I came out of CodeBound with a job offer I graciously accepted and have been leading my own development team since Day 1.
And for some of the other reviews left here; I came into CodeBound not knowing anything more than some basic HTML and CSS and now I'm pioneering functionality on a multi-million dollar project all thanks to the knowledge of my instructors and the first-hand, real world experience obtained as part of CodeBound.

No more Dreamweaver and WYSIWYG, this is all coding! The second certificate built onto the first, and added a 30-hour back-end web development program which included PHP and MySQL and WordPress.org. I learned tons, and the teachers were excellent. The coursebooks are such a valuable tool to use with my projects, and being able to take additional classes live online makes it easy to keep learning. I was able to code a WordPress theme from scratch with what I learned form the WordPress.org class, and was even asked to speak at this past summer's Wordcamp NYC. The instructors know their stuff, and really make learning fun. Nothing is rushed, and they take time to answer all questions. And having the option to re-take a class is also great. These courses were a very worthwhile investment - would recommend to anyone.

I spent a lot of time working in them in my last job and loved the logical gymnastics of using a combination of values and formulas to create tools to help my team work more efficiently. That said, as the spreadsheet tools I created became more complex, I became hungrier to break free of the constraints of cells and execute logic in clearer, more advanced ways—and with a nicer interface too. This lead me to coding. I was mindblown by how many great online resources there were to learn how to code for free… or more accurately, I was overwhelmed. As someone entering the field for the first time, I didn’t even know where to start. Let alone what I would need to be capable of to be competitive in the job market. Fortunately, I stumbled across the Coding Boot Camp at the University of Sydney and quickly knew it was the perfect course for me.I think this will be the perfect course for you too, if you’re someone who:- Wants a comprehensive understanding of how to build a website
- Craves structure to stay motivated
- And, is excited to learn a lot in a short time.
There are ~12 hours of lectures per week, across three evenings (if you’re based in Sydney). This means that you can do the course whilst working full-time. I’ve been amazed by how much I can achieve in the evenings, a time that I previously underutilised. That said, working full-time and taking this course is hard, to the point where you probably won't be able to get as much out of it compared to if you were working part-time or taking a break from work. This is because the course is quite fast-paced. To break it down:- The course is 24 weeks long, with no weeks off in between.
- Each week, we cover around 15 new concepts related to a particular area of the field.
- For each concept, the instructor runs through a demonstration. Then, you go into a breakout room with other students and a tutor and you directly apply what you’ve learnt to an activity.
- There is a new assignment every week. You can only skip two assignments to pass the course.
- Class attendance is mandatory and your camera needs to be on. You can only miss up to eight classes to pass the course.
Personally, I find this structure very motivating. It’s why I love the course so much. It keeps me accountable and continuously pushes me to keep learning. Looking back over the last three months, I am astounded by how much I have learned—there is absolutely no way I could have made so much progress on my own in such a short time.I also love how personable and supportive the course is. Learning independently online seems bleak in comparison. The instructor and teaching assistants responsible for delivering my course are incredibly clear and knowledgeable. Our instructor is particularly motivating and regularly reminds us of how far we've come and where we can find extra support if needed. There’s a 24/7 chat-based service where you can ask for help with your code. Pretty much 100% of the time, I get the help I need to solve my problem within 15 minutes. You can also opt-in for 1:1 tutoring sessions on top of regular classes if you need them. Overall, I feel like there are so many opportunities for extra support.
I haven't really started my job search yet, so I can't comment too thoroughly on the career services. That said, I feel confident that I'm learning the right concepts to be employer-competitive and that when I'm ready to start applying, there are resources there for me to prepare for interviews, write my application materials and have them reviewed to increase my chances of success. If I'm being picky, my only critiques are:- Sometimes the feedback on my assignments feels a little generic/templated. That said, it’s far more feedback than I ever received on an assignment in my undergraduate degree. Also, I think it reflects one of my favourite things about coding—if you hit all of the acceptance criteria, then your work is good enough and perhaps there isn’t much more that needs to be said.
- I wish there were more opportunities to network, both in person and online, with people in the course and outside of it. I think they could do more to help us meet people working in the industry.
- A week off in the middle of the course would be nice.
If you choose to enrol in this course, my advice is just that you’ll get out what you put in. If you want to get the most out of it, be prepared to be challenged. Ultimately, your coding abilities are what matter. Not your assignment marks or your attendance—so try to come into this with the mindset that everything you do is adding to your potential success.
TLDR: the course is challenging, but you are guaranteed to learn. - 5Reviews4CoursesColorado State University Tech Bootcamps offer full-time and part-time online training programs in coding, cybersecurity, DevOps, or product management. Says: What's in a program, really?
This program is a bit different from most. I hesitate to call it a "bootcamp" as the curriculum and mentorship is presented in an almost academic-quality mannerThis program is a bit different from most. I hesitate to call it a "bootcamp" as the curriculum and mentorship is presented in an almost academic-quality manner. From the production and planning of the lessons, to the detail and depth you will get into, it begins to feel like a rigorous college program than a quick bootcamp.
This program is designed to cover design fundamentals as well as programming. If I had to guess, I would say that maybe 1/4th of the course is strictly design related, but it is woven into the rigorous programming lessons too at times. Having a decent eye for typography, space, and color can allow you to have more intelligent conversations with co-workers, or even just guide your process when creating your own work. Typography, for example, is one of those things that once you learn even a little bit of the basic ideas - you increase your value as a developer quite a lot. Myself and my cohort have several people who have taken those design principles quite far - and the stuff they've made is genuinely impressive - certainly beyond the portfolios of other people I've seen who have not been exposed to design principles.
This program is not light on programming either. As stated, my ballpark guess is that a large majority of the course is strictly programming related. The course is basically structured in a manner that tracks the history of web development over time. For example with CSS, you start by positioning elements with floats. You then use flexbox, and then grid. For scripting, you start by introducing basic php scripting and partials, then move onto more advanced PHP principles, then WordPress as a basis for understanding frameworks. Then you do some Javascript - and follow a similar pattern. Basic JS, then more advanced concepts, then a JS framework - and so on.
The course is quite detailed. It really benefits you to work hard every day until it's over. In my experience, students who do not continually apply themselves tend to not do well in the long term. The ones that stick around and actually work end up becoming pretty freaking great.
So is this program great? I would say so. Personally, I think it's one of the best decisions I've made - and I've went to college. I probably would have considered giving this a try before college if I knew what it would be like. Derek is great, the course is pretty fair in the sense that it increases in difficulty pretty straightforwardly. You never really feel totally lost for too long - but it has its fair share of challenges. I'm a harsh critic when it comes to a lot of things. I'm the type of person to rate an amazing movie or album an 8/10. I don't hand out high scores for things almost ever. I think this course - in terms of learning web development with some design to round you out - is a true 10/10 - and I genuinely mean that it is probably, pound for pound, the best web development program you could take if you want to get a great start in a career, or start your own development company, or what have you. I do think it is that good.
But that doesn't answer the actually important question - is this the right program for you in particular? That's a hard question to answer, because even a really good course and a truly great mentor can't prepare you for the realities of development. It is a hard field. I am currently employed after taking this course - and it's challenging. I've seen a couple cohorts where people seemed really passionate and some gave up, or slacked off, or whatever. I would say that this it depends on your temperament and personality. If you love development, if you love design, and if you love programming - then I think it's the best. But if you don't love those things and if you aren't ready to work really hard to not only pass the course, but land a job - then it is not for you. It takes genuine passion and dedication, and even being a developer now - I would be lying if I said there weren't times that I wanted to give up (and I really like programming!)
In theory, the best possible course would simply act as a mirror. Given a great curriculum and teacher - truthfully speaking, the only people who would have a hard time succeeding are people who aren't actually in love with the idea of being a developer, or something like that. I think this course is a mirror. I think given the price and scope of the material, Derek puts the ball in your court. You will, in a sense, have everything you need to succeed.

The more you put into this program, the more you will get out of it. Support is available for questions of all types - from fundamentals to more advanced CS topics. There is a diverse student body that is eager to learn and support one another, and peer-based project reviews help students both learn to take constructive criticism and to digest and comment intelligently on someone else's code. The connections with numerous companies (in the Bay Area and across the globe) help students to open doors and find meaningful employment, and as the program progresses there is a good amount of interview prep which is very practical. I strongly recommend this program for students of all abilities who truly wish to further their technical knowledge and build a solid foundation for a career in any part of the tech industry. - 5Reviews0CoursesThe University of Adelaide Boot Camps offer part-time web development, data analytics, and cybersecurity courses. As a professional constantly in need of up-to-the-minute information, I took it upon myself to learn Tableau for visualisations. However, the limitations imposed by pre-existing data tables left me yearning for a deeper understanding of data development and normalisation. This frustration fuelled my decision to apply to the Boot Camp, where I aspired to gain the skills needed to manipulate data according to my vision and create the visualisations essential for my role.
The Boot Camp proved to be an intense and rewarding experience. Drawing on my prior knowledge of relational databases was invaluable, given the program's rapid pace. I particularly appreciated the curriculum's structure, where each module not only built upon the last but also introduced novel concepts. This approach seamlessly filled gaps in my understanding while expanding on my existing knowledge, providing a comprehensive and holistic learning experience.
One of the standout aspects of the program was its ability to cater to learners with varying levels of expertise. Whether you were a novice or had some experience, the Boot Camp managed to strike a perfect balance, ensuring everyone felt challenged yet supported. The relentless pace demanded commitment, but the rewards were evident as I found myself seamlessly transitioning into a new role within the business, focusing specifically on Data Enablement.
For prospective students, my advice would be to enter the Boot Camp with a clear understanding of the commitment it requires. The program is rigorous and fast-paced, necessitating dedicated study hours. The time between classes is a precious opportunity to embed knowledge and practice, so being prepared to invest the necessary time and energy is crucial for success. In retrospect, the journey was challenging, but the transformative impact on my career and skill set makes it undoubtedly worthwhile. MTS Class

Thank you ALL!
As a student for this class I was propelled into the workforce right at the end of the class. Many of the other graduates had the same experience.
This is a fast paced Web Developer based into to everything and into to everything professional Boot Camp. Essentially as a student you need to know these things:
- How to be prepared? Don't come into this class not knowing how to use a file system, this is a class meant for people who are going to get hired by a professional company after 12 weeks. This class is meant for people who have a good understanding of computers and already have an understanding of programming theory and understand how to read syntax. File system structure is not something you teach in this class. Don't be the student the slows everyone else down then drops out after 1-2 weeks.
- If you're a potential student of this class DON'T AVOID IT BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE IS A BEGINNER CLASS.
- This class is focused on making YOU INTO A PROFESSIONAL AFTER 12 WEEKS.
- Use logic from 3 to come to a reasonable conclusion to what the class is about.
They also prepare you for job interviews and have other professionals in the business speak to the class, in my class:
- Job Coach Professional Sherri Thomas
- Technical Recruiter at Nextiva Alex Francis
- Melt Media Tech Director Anthony Garone
- Melt Media Hiring Manager Devon Tackett
Sherri is a professional job coach and guided the class on the process of resumes, interviews and job seeking.
Alex works for Nextiva and spoke to us about professional interviews, what not to do and what to do. Alex also provides help with resumes.
Anthony works for Melt Media and spoke to the class about expectations.
Devon works for Melt Media and gave the graduates a preliminary professional technical interview with feedback.
Some things to expect:
- The class has you build a project, your own website.
- There are some costs involved which the College cant pay for if you want to be able to own the site
- The website will be about you as a programmer.
- If you cant afford it Jeff can let you make one on the MCOR server

You will receive a top notch education in programming, computer science fundamentals, and preparation for whiteboard style interviewing. You will not be charged tuition and you will receive a stipend at the end of each month of your internship that is the equivalent of 35 hours a week at $15 an hour. Taxes will not be taken out of your check as your role is that of a contractor. Most of your class will have job offers before the cohort ends, but not all, often for reasons not under ADA's ( or the Adies' ) control. You will graduate ready to enter the job market as a junior developer. You will think that you should feel more skilled and experienced once you reach that point but you won't ( what you hope to feel like usually takes 5 years of experience and work to achieve ). You will have a strong network of graduates to lean on and the support of ADA during future job searches and dealing with the challenges that the tech industry brings.
Teaching will usually be spot on, but there will be missteps and errors along the way. You will be doing more independent study than you anticipate. Your instructors ( 2 per 24 students, 1 floating instructor, 1 Jumpstart instructor, a dedicated Computer Science Fundamentals instructor, and an outstanding student counselor ) are supportive, committed to the mission of ADA, and eager for you to succeed, but they are human. Things more very fast and you have to advocate for yourself and your classmates. Sometimes tutoring is available, sometimes not. If you start to fall behind you need to recognize it quickly and get assistance immediately. You may have to go outside of ADA to do that.
You will receive education and training about social justice, including the concerns and challenges of women of color and non-binary individuals. You will be personally be challenged. You will learn things you didn't know about yourself, and didn't necessarily want to know. You will learn that there is difference between ADA and the Adies alumnix. It was the alumnix who made the commitment to "no woman left behind". Students have been expelled from ADA. Not all of us got in on our first try. Some were admitted on their 5th try. There is some Redshirting. You will form some of the strongest friendships of your life, but you won't like everyone. Lateral aggression is minimal, bullying almost non-existent. ADA was worth it, the Adies especially so. But it is hard. The process hurts. It hurts alot. But it was worth it. Eyes open, keep your expectations in check, and it will be amazing. You will be amazing. Apply.
