Read MoreOverall, this course was a success for me. When I initially joined this course, I wasn't specifically looking for a new job, I was already in the software industry earning a lot of money in Silicon Valley, and I simply wanted to maintain my skill so it is not obsolete. However, as the course progressed and my goals changed, I came to take advantage of their career couching services, which actually made a huge difference in my trajectory.
This course is a serious course and I would recommend you join only if you have experience in software engineering already. While it s not necessary, a lot of the deeper topic will go over your head. Also, the learning outcome is absolutely dependent on how much time you spent on it, you can't expect to pay $10k and buy your way into an expert, this is a legit course and everything will have to be learned legitimately over time.
Some advice to new students:- Write notes continuously or you won't learn anything.
- Use your mentor to keep you on-track, motivate you, and unstuck you.
- Pick a capstone project topic you are actually care about so you won't get bored of it.
- Follow career guidance advice to the tee, it's good advice even if you think it's silly.
- Use your high tuition cost as a motivation to finish sooner.
- And the most important one: you learn only as much as the effort you put into it!
What you need to know before joining / things the course could improve on:- Course material could be ordered better, I had to go back and forth between different chapters to understand certain topics. Notes also helps.
- All their materials can be found online for free, which in my opinion was not a major problem, however the sections that were behind paywall were definitely a problem for me. I hope they eventually replace them with free ones.
- The course is expensive, don't go into it expecting a miracle just because you paid a lot of money. You are still responsible for yourself, but the course will help.
Course outcome: I was doing about 10 interviews per week before the course ended, and I had 2 job offers both above $200k right after graduation. I am currently the lead architect on a high caliber ML project with direct reporting ( I actually didn't even ask for this ). The course paid for itself. I would recommend. Byte Academy

The course begins with an entry math quiz, which was reasonably difficult. It included things like linear algebra, high-level calculus, and advanced statistics. I had never taken linear algebra before but was able to learn quite a bit with Khan Academy. You don't need a perfect score on this entry quiz, but you do need to score around 80% to my recollection.
The course begins with a month-long Python coding bootcamp. This portion is technically ungraded and you can totally skip it if you have a good background in Python. All the learning occurs on the DataCamp platform while homeworks are completed in Jupyter notebooks. There is a final Jupyter project for this Python coding section which IS graded.
The rest of the course is split into 10 modules. Each module consists of two weeks. The first week consists of recorded lectures, some required textbook reading, a one-hour live office hour, forum discussions, and a coding assignment. The second week typically consists of math-based video lectures, a math quiz or two, and a live coding assignment done together as a class and then finished/submitted on your own. The modules are as follows: Practical Applications of Analytics, Data Structures and Plotting, Introduction to Statistics and Probabilities, Linear OLS Models, Linear Regressions Interactions and Transformations, Logistic Regression and Applying GLM, Data Visualization Strategies, Experimental Design/Causal Research/Targeting Analysis, Machine Learning and the final module is the final project. I found all the modules to be very valuable and a good mix of new challenges/repetition.
The final project basically consists of identifying a potential business problem, curating an applicable dataset, and applying machine learning techniques to attempt to solve the problem. You will use Python and relevant ML libraries (mainly sklearn, but others can be used). The trick to the final project is finding something relatively novel that is also doable. There was a broad range of success/failures among my cohorts' final projects. Some people picked things that were too simple and were basically considered mainstay ML problems (ex. identifying mushrooms/flowers based on measurements) while others picked ML problems that were way too big in scope or ill-defined.
The course is also jam-packed with career-oriented learning opportunities. There are multiple sessions with career coaches and assigned mentors, both group and one-on-ones. Be sure to take full-advantage of these, especially if you are planning on breaking into a new data science role.
Expectations:
Expect to spend at least 13 hours a week on this course. I'm definitely not a slow-learner and I felt 13 hours was my average. Expect to spend even more time if you have any foundational knowledge deficits such as calculus or statistics.
Do not expect to become a pro after just this course. It will give you all the necessary skills and knowledge to further your data science journey, but there is much more to do after. I cannot speak to whether it provides everything needed to become competitive for entry-level data science jobs, but I imagine it does, especially at the larger firms like Amazon, AirBnB, etc.
The things I didn't like:
I wish we had more access to actual Dartmouth faculty members. The only actual Dartmouth faculty member you will see will be in the pre-recorded lectures. All live interactions occur with an Emeritus employee. He does a fantastic job, but you can tell he is teaching multiple courses at once. Don't expect office hours to last more than the allotted hour.
Secondly, I was a little disappointed in the range of knowledge/skills among course participants. It felt like far too much time was dedicated to subjects/knowledge that was included in the entry quiz. What's the point of the entry quiz if we're going to end up going over most of that stuff anyway? It just kind of felt like wasted time and I wasn't getting my full moneys worth reviewing stuff that I felt was foundational.
Third, I wish we had spent a lot more time on machine learning as opposed to the more basic stuff. Again, basic statistics were tested for in the entry quiz. Sure it was nice to learn how to code linear regressions in Python, but the meat and potatoes should have been ML. After all, you really only spend two weeks on the ML stuff and it felt rushed since there is so much to learn in the ML world.
Similarly, I wish we had done the ML stuff earlier in the course or at least touched on it more frequently throughout the course. Ultimately, your entire final project is based on ML. But it's a little annoying to be expected to come up with a final project when you don't even really understand the capabilities of ML, to begin with. I know I felt a little lost and in the dark.
Overall, I highly recommend this course to anyone interested in data science. EmergingEd

- The tuition cost is very reasonable and they offer Flexible payment options.
- The class size is small which allows the instructor to help students during or after class times.
- The schedule is very relaxed and designed for people with busy lives.
- The course is beneficial for all experience levels. You will learn C Sharp (C#) through the course while learning how programming concepts are applied in real world scenarios/ industry.
- After the course they offer career counseling.
They really want you to get a job in whichever industry you choose! Another benefit of the smaller size of this school is they do well if you do well.
Full Review:
There are a couple programs out there that might help cover tuition if you qualify and the school offers reasonable financing options. I had spoken to one of their recruiters before signing up and was able to work out options best suited to my financial situation with their senior leadership. They have some information about their financing options on their website, but if the cost of tuition is the only hurdle you see then be open with them and talk it out. They absolutely want to help people who honestly wish to help themselves.
Skillspire is a small institution focused on getting people into the tech industry. Their size allows them to help you in the right capacity needed for your situation. They have more freedom to accommodate their students on a personal basis.
Are you a nervous test taker or stress over due dates? NO WORRIES HERE! You won't take a single exam and due dates are very flexible. The course was designed to be no stress/low pressure for the students. The grading structure is very relaxed as well. Turn in your assignment and get the points.
Concerned you won't be able to find the time to participate?
I live on the East Coast and they're based in Seattle, WA. That's a 3 hour time difference. Wednesday classes were late for my time zone but if I couldn't make it to class the instructor sent a link to the recording of the class. They're understanding and lenient on attendance.
You will not pass/fail based on attendance or grades. You are responsible for learning the material just like any other learning institution but they will pull all the stops to make sure you can learn what they're teaching. You get out of this course exactly what you put in. When I went through the course we didn't have our first official homework assignment until just before half way through the 20 weeks. Personally I recommend using an additional resource to practice what you learn between classes. I was brand new to all the material and I felt I needed it and the extra practice helped.
Worried you're computer skills are outdated?
For me, I was a fairly new to programming and didn't have a language I already knew. I had dabbled in C++ in the early 2000's and I liked it. I can't say I put much effort in staying current in tech since that time. When I was looking into this course I wasn't even familiar with Window OS's post Windows XP. I used computers at work that ran Windows 7 - 10 but I only used them for very basic tasks. Upon signing up for the course I had to get myself a proper laptop but I was definitely overdue. ; )
My point is, I barely had a hobby remotely related to tech before I took this course and I didn't struggle due to that. I had played around with some Linux distros on an ARM device (Raspberry Pi 3B+) I purchased on a whim a few years ago but it wasn't even operational when I committed myself to taking the course. I was absolutely a novice.
I just recently finished the course and I'm excited to see where I end up from here.Dribbble

Before I started Adelaide University's Coding Boot-camp, I was a professional hairstylist for 8 years. I enjoyed the Job, but disliked the work environment, and realized there was a ceiling on this career both monetarily and in opportunities. During my third lock down (due to Covid-19) I decided I should pursue something I enjoy and have a passion for. I knew that University wasn't for me, as each course included subjects I thought were unnecessary or not in my interest, and it would have to give up working hours which financially I couldn't do. I then saw a an Ad for the Boot-camp. This piqued my interest.
I clicked the Ad and this was the beginning of a new pathway for me. I sent my information off and quickly received a call from a representative whom told me about the course and answered my questions. 4 things stood out to me. The course was 6 months long, which was a lot less intimidating than a full 4 year Uni degree. The classes were held in the evening after work, which meant I wouldn't have to give up any work hours. The course was online. Due to the spicy cough, classes were held online, which meant I didn't have to travel to the city to attend. Finally the course was affordable. I was given multiple payment options in which to choose from, to fit my situation. All of this helped me make the decision. I knew that if I signed up, I would be locking myself in to 6 months of intense work and study. I wanted to maintain working full time, 38 hour weeks, however the boot-camp recommended at least 20 hours of personal study every week. This meant I would be working all day, attending the boot-camp at night, and studying in any free time I had spare. Now even though I would be trading my time for the course, it was an easy decision. I had a passion for development and wanted to see it through. The Course
Starting the course I was excited and nervous, but they made the induction process smooth. I received a checklist of things to do before the course began to get myself ready. This included setting up my machine and installing the needed applications, and signing up for the necessary websites. This was all very easy and straight forward. The first day we met our Instructor and our TA, both of whom were excited to meet everyone and very welcoming. From then we started into the topics and participated in activities, working along side our class mates. Every week we ended with an assignment that used all the information from the topic we had just studied, so the information was fresh in our minds, and easy to go back to if we needed a refresher. Some project assignments were done in groups so we could get a taste of what it's like in a team-based, real world environment. As the weeks went on, stress levels went up and down as I struggled with topics I wasn't as confident on, or powered through assignments, the end drew near.
About six weeks before the end of the course. I received a phone call. It was from a hiring manager offering me a Developer position! I was blown away and ecstatic. My dream was slowly fading into reality. I interviewed and 4 weeks later was at the desk of my new job. 1 week after that, I graduated the boot-camp ready to explore my new doors and opportunities as they show themselves.
If you are thinking of joining a boot camp because you are thinking it's short and easy. Then this isn't for you. If you are looking at this course because you are passionate but don't think the full University experience is for you, this is a good supplement. You still have to apply and study, and it can be hard working a full time job, and studying almost just as much but if you have the drive it is possible, and you might even start a new career from it. - 3Reviews1CourseEmerson College Boot Camps offer a 24-week, part-time, data analytics course. Read MoreI came to this review site before quitting my job and doing this bootcamp, so I thought it would be nice to come full circle and leave a review after starting my career in tech. Overall, the bootcamp is great - you learn a lot in a short amount of time. I would recommend a bootcamp if you are in a hurry to change careers. That being said, LHL is not responsible for the overarching job market / economic climate. When I graduated every tech giant was doing mass layoffs. Bear that in mind before making a decision. Nothing is guaranteed. After a total of 8 months (which includes 3months of bootcamp) i finally landed a junior dev role. And I was lucky. That being said, the support from career services was good. They help where they can. If I were to use an analogy: they are a passenger in the car you are driving. Is it worth the money? I'm not sure. I think that they do a lot of behind-the-scenes work that indirectly benefited me.... Read Less
Overall, if you are passionate about tech and want to start your career, give it a go. Life is too short.
For curriculum I would prefer not spending a week on Ruby. I think the curriculum would be better served with an extra week with React or learning Typescript. Pivoting out of Javascript for a week didn't feel worth it to me. On top of that none of the TAs who picked up my request-tickets knew the language. The only fringe benefit of the Ruby week was that it was nice to see the MVC approach.- 57Reviews3CoursesThe Grace Hopper Program at Fullstack Academy is a live online, immersive software engineering bootcamp for women and non-binary students. Read MoreMy experience at the Grace Hopper Program changed my life in a myriad of ways. Their curriculum is extremely thorough and as they say, "they will not let you fail." I think though, that besides teaching me their specific stack, GHP really taught me how to think like a programmer. Since graduating I've been able to teach myself so many new languages and technologies because of this experience. I chose the program because I'm a nonbinary student and wanted to go somewhere where my identity would be respected, and I absolutely felt that throughout my experience. My cohortmates, fellows, and instructors were so supportive and still are even now after I've graduated. The pair programming enabled me to learn to speak technically and work with others in this new environment, and the workshops are still useful for me to go through even now that I'm an employed software engineer. I cannot recommend the Grace Hopper Program enough for any woman or nonbinary person looking to get into the technical field.... Our tutor was excellent in teaching, making those complex concepts bright by using great tools and visual ideas that could represent the system presented.
If you’re considering getting into Web3, It’ll be worth it to take this course.
