Pro:
I was paired with a fantastic instructor who wanted to see me become successful and was passionate about it. They have a host of other very talented technical staff that can help you with code.
Con:
They were using a "Free-meium" version of slack for students while I was there. This means to you as a student if you ask for advice/help on Slack, that conversation is only available for a limited amount of time. I recommend you save all communications you want to refer back to in a file on your computer.
Pro:
The job assistance wasn't what I expected, but made the program worth it. I was paired with a career coach who was a recruiter in the tech sector for about five years. She was pivotal to capping off the Thinkful experience as an overall positive one. Be prepared to work hard, though and you make it.
Con (Kinda):
The curriculum was all free stuff you could find online on your own and for a lot of the projects/work I did in the program, I had to look up things outside of the curriculum. There is something to be said and appreciated about all of this information being formulated and put together in one place, which is an activity that could take a long time on its own and if you're not already data science-savvy you will likely find a hard time figuring out where to start.
Pro:
The community Thinkful creates is great. Reaching out to alumni after program graduation was easy (once you mustered the strength to reach out) and you make great connections that way. Plus, the workshops they have are informative and great ways to learn about how you can apply the concepts you're learning/trying to wrap your head around.
Con:
Communication with the actual Thinkful staff was always a mystery. My mentor and I often found that with procedural program items, we were in the dark. Coding Dojo's style was perfect for me. Short explanations, decent code examples and then tons of immediate practice followed by a solution on completion of an assignment so you can immediately gauge how well you grasped the material and what you needed to review.
The instructor COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE AMAZING!!!! She was always helpful, never got frustrated with repetitive or 'dumb' questions, and gave positive reinforcement and encouragement regularly.
For what we were able to cover, I felt I grasped the content well enough to be able to venture out on my own. Udacity used to be a great online education platform that I recommended to friends and colleagues. Unfortunately, that's no longer the case. I've purchased three Nanodegree courses from them, and I was initially fascinated by their project ideas, reviews, comments, and mentors when I first discovered the platform.
In this era, thanks to sharing enthusiasts and the developer community, you can access all the knowledge or projects that Udacity can offer. This is true for most platforms, so what you pay for is the educational support from real people, customer support, certification value, and user-friendly workspaces/websites.
At Udacity, mentors generally help you out quickly when you raise a question, which is great. The value of certification depends on your country, so I won't comment on that.
Now, let's discuss the red flags that have made me stop using this platform. I'll also share my detailed recent experience.
Especially after the new update, the website and workspace are a mess, almost looking like an unfinished website. It's definitely not user-friendly. The same goes for their workspace. For example there is data that can't be downloaded due to sensitive information, and you have an AI project. It's normal to wait 4-5 hours for your train data, but in their workspace, it can be interrupted because their system automatically logs you off or experiences at least one or two crashes in day at Jupyter. This means you have to start over. Your code will be there, but you have to run every line again. Regarding customer support: at Udacity, there's never a chance to talk with real support; there's an AI chatbot (Seb) that only sends emojis and doesn't provide any useful information. They added UdacityGPT, which is incapable of answering questions. They charge money per course per month but don't provide support within 72 hours. No one cares about you after you pay. I hope people will see this post before purchasing. Also, concerning reviewers, if they're busy, they don't care about you and can even refuse to review your project. For example, if you're near to repaying next month and close to finishing your project, might reviewers will use up all the deadline and can make excuses not to check your project. If you ask for help from support, good luck – you have to wait at least 72 hours, which might only result in a response asking you a question in return.
In my capstone project, I shared my repo, code, and blog articles. In this course, I took lessons on coding and GitHub, but not on how to write articles, which makes sense because writing and sharing articles is a personal choice. In my project submission, the reviewer refused to do a review because they believe I shared too much code in the article, which definitely does not make sense. I am not sharing this article as a Udacity employee; this is my personal area and my personal choice. There was no rule in the project rubric stating that I can't share code in my article. The funny part is that, because of this, the reviewer did not do any review for my GitHub repo and code. I am here to learn coding and data science, which should be our primary goal, but this reviewer does not seem to care about this.
For now, I have clearly told the reviewer that it's my choice, and if there are any missing parts, they should address them in the review and provide me with some examples. Also, please help me understand the idea of making a perfect article if my code is not right. Let's say there is a critical mistake in my project; I would have to change the entire article. I don't understand this logic. After I wrote this to the reviewer, they are now purposely making me wait for the review and using up all the time for the deadline, which I have never experienced before at Udacity. This kind of approach is not cool, and their attempt to fool me is making me angry.CourseCareers is an online modern learning platform that offers affordable, self-paced courses in technology sales and information technology. In my case, those requirements included attending biweekly career meetings, applying to a minimum number of jobs each week, and logging networking activities through their approved platform.During the program, I repeatedly attended career coaching sessions where students expressed concerns after receiving notices that their guarantees had been revoked due to alleged failures to meet networking requirements. At the time, TripleTen used a third-party platform called Prentus to track activity. Many students found the platform unreliable and difficult to use consistently.Fortunately, my career coach advised us to maintain independent records of all job applications and networking activities in addition to the platform logs. Following that advice, I kept a detailed spreadsheet documenting my applications, networking outreach, and participation throughout the entire guarantee period.My guarantee period recently ended. I submitted my documentation showing that I had tracked and completed the required activities. Despite maintaining records and following the guidance I was given, TripleTen informed me that I still did not qualify under the guarantee requirements.As a result, I am currently disputing their decision and requesting the refund that I believe I am entitled to receive.My advice to prospective students is this:- Read every part of the job guarantee agreement carefully.
- Keep your own records of every job application, networking message, and career-related activity.
- Save screenshots, emails, attendance records, and spreadsheets from day one.
- Do not rely solely on third-party tracking platforms to document your compliance.

I am so happy with my decision to do my boot camp with the tech academy! I was drawn to the program because it was self-paced, middle of the range in terms of cost and time, and because they built their curriculum for people who have never coded before.
I knew hardly anything about coding to begin with and they really drill the fundamentals before ramping up to more challenging content. I gained a broad base of fundamental skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript before moving onto the more specific data science which focus more on statistics, machine learning, Python and R. I can now confidently wrangle, visualize and model data using both Python, R and PowerBI. At the end I did a two week live project that really brought all of those skills together in real-world agile/scrum team environment. I do want to note that Data Science is a big, new, someone ill-defined field and I believe there is no way someone could learn every aspect of it in four months. This bootcamp gave me super solid fundamentals in the areas of statistics, data wrangling/cleaning, data visualization, and machine learning models using both Python and R. I now have the confidence to self educate in these and other areas of interest, as well as the skills to land a junior analyst position.
The course was challenging without being overwhelming and the staff and instructors are available, competent, and they clearly want you to succeed. My job placement coordinator was AMAZING (shout out to Samantha!) She's the closest thing I've ever had to a personal assistant. Whether you need someone to look over a resume or cover letter or to give you a pep talk, they are there for it, present, and keep you on track without being overbearing. They are also very receptive to feedback about the program or your experience both during and after. Slower than I planned — and better for itI enrolled in the Data Science program expecting to finish in about 8 months. It took considerably longer, and that turned out to be the best thing about it.The structure is self-paced, which sounds easy until you realise nobody is going to carry you — the projects genuinely require you to understand what you're building. Every sprint was harder than the last, and each one ended in a live review with a senior team lead who asked real questions. Those reviews were the single most valuable part of the program for me. You can't bluff your way through explaining your own architecture to someone who knows the field, and the feedback I got afterwards consistently pointed at things I hadn't seen myself.The curriculum kept pace with the field, which matters in this area. By the later sprints I was building agentic AI systems with modern tooling rather than working through exercises that had aged out.The other unexpected value was the people — discussions with peers and open sessions with lecturers pushed my thinking further than studying alone would have.Honest expectation-setting for anyone considering it: if you're self-motivated and want to actually understand the material, this is a strong choice. If you want a fast checkbox certificate, look elsewhere. I joined the bootcamp with no background in coding, I went from not knowing how to run a single line of code to being able to handle data from large workbooks in 6 months, with a full time job! The lecture videos were very insightful and introduced the concepts in a way that accommodated people from any academic background. I personally studied Accounting and the most exposure I had to information systems was using excel and so these other programming languages were foreign to me. Today, I have been able to restructure most of my workflows in my role, using SQL and Python, which has increased my capacity to perform optimally at work.
With regards to the support from tutors, they are very responsive to questions posed to them and ensure that the student understands whatever concepts they have an issue with. This was very important to me as I needed assistance with understanding the work. They are also very efficient with marking submissions. They provide feedback timeously so that you know where to improve on. Even in their feedback, they are very constructive. It is sometimes easy to feel demotivated, especially when studying something completely new. The approach they follow when a submission needs to re-done is, they start off with pointing out what you did well and this helps boost one's confidence.
