I just completed the full-time immersive remote program at DigitalCrafts. I looked at many programs across the country and did a lot of research before enrolling at DC. I used all the resources available like Course Report and YouTube. Take the time and decide what's right for you. It is a major financial and time commitment. I learned so much in the 16 weeks I was there. I had done about 3-4 months of going the self-taught route. I decided this was something that I wanted to do and wanted to speed up my timeline.

I recommend as they will that you take the time and do the pre-course work. It will enable you to hit the ground running and make the most of your time at DC. I also recommend you do your daily pre-reading. Make sure that you discuss the commitment you are making with friends and family. I spent 14-16 hours a day coding. I'm not saying that it will take that amount of time to successfully complete the program, but what you put into it is what you will get out of it.

The staff and faculty want you to succeed and do really care. Take advantage of all the resources that are given to you. They have helped their alum to become successful and will do the same for you. If you are looking to level up your life and career options then you should explore DC. They will give you the tools you need to succeed.

I choose DigitalCrafts because I liked the looks of their curriculum and I liked the fact that their immersive program is 16 weeks long rather than 12 like many other programs. I was not disappointed with my choice. From day one all the staff have been great. The communication during the application process was clear and timely. They give you a very clear pre-work outline and online resources to prepare you for day one of your program. (Side note to prospective students, do the pre-work! It will help you when you start the course!) I was nervous at first about doing an all online virtual program but I have to say DigitalCrafts is doing a great job of making virtual learning work! All the lectures are live and you have the opportunity to ask questions of the instructor and dialog with other students. You are also given the opportunity for live online study groups which is awesome. I truly felt just as involved and supported as I have ever felt in a in person class. The curriculum is robust and moves fast, which is something you need to be prepared for going into any bootcamp type learning environment, but you will have a ton of support from the instructions, teaching assistants, career support staff and all the folks that work for DC! I never felt like I was in this alone, or felt isolated in my learning struggles for one minute!

Just be warned the pace is very fast and you can easily get bogged down with the material if you don't put time outside of class. For people trying to decide if DigitalCrafts immersive program is a good fit for them, ask yourself these questions: Can you commit all your energy to strictly coding for 4 months straight? Are you willing to put in time outside of class to learn even more beyond the scope of the course? If the answer is no to either of these questions then consider enrolling part-time. Going through the program successfully and being one of the strongest students in my cohort, I'd like to leave some imparting wisdom to people considering this course. Do the pre-work and ask a lot of questions!! You're paying too much money to not be giving this 200% of your effort. Understand that these are complex topics and you will not learn this material overnight. My recommendation if you're serious about this would be to look up the curriculum prior to enrolling and take a few months to get a feel for some (not all) of the technologies being used. This will put you miles ahead of other students and will give you a solid foundation for setting up your coding environment, the fundamentals of programming, and realistic expectations coming into the program. All in all DigitalCrafts has a great reputation for good reason, the tools to succeed are there you just need to be willing to put in the work.

I attended the 16-week immersive (full-time) web development course. The instructor was great and extremely knowledgeable. I loved learning React and Python. DigitalCrafts also provides small scholarships to women and minorities, which I appreciated. The unfortunate downside of all bootcamps is that they are created and run to make money. Therefore, most people that apply are accepted into the program, and because of this, unfortunately, a lot of time is spent in class troubleshooting operating systems and explaining concepts over and over. It's easy for a lot of people to become bored and disinterested waiting for the class to move forward. The career services portion could also use work. One week of the bootcamp was spent on career services. Instead of doing mock technical interviews or having guest speakers, most of the week was spent watching YouTube videos. There is a job board accessible by all students and alumni but the same jobs get posted there over and over. Unpaid internships are also posted (but the unpaid part is omitted). In the end, I did learn valuable skills that will hopefully lead me to a new career.
