The way BrainStation's classes are structutred are exceptional!  The instructors really make sure you understand the lecture and since the classes are generally small, there is a lot of opportunity to ask questions and clarfy concepts.  Even the classmates I had were driven and passionate making BrainStation an even better environment to work in.  The instructors are extremely knowledgable and try to make the class as enjoyable as possible.  I loved the BrainStation experience and I am definitely returning in the Fall to further my digital skills!!

I'm taking BrainStation's Digital Marketing course and so far it's been awesome. I'm a university student, so BrainStation is a breath of fresh air. I'm used to lectures with hundreds of students and 1 instructor. My Digital Marketing class at BrainStation is about as far from that as possible. The class is small and we have 3 instructors. All of them are so helpful and knowledgeable. They're always happy to answer our questions and provide feedback on our work. I love being able to collaborate with the other students on projects and bounce ideas off each other. Everyone is friendly and eager to learn, which makes class a lot of fun. Instead of dreading lectures like I do at university, I can't wait for my classes once a week.

It's hard to sum up my experience at Wyncode. It was definitely one of the hardest and most gratifying 9 weeks of my life. Within that short time you will learn the basics and fundementals of web development and more importantly teach yourself how to continue learning well beyond the program, meeting amazing people all along the way. The pressure to do well is entirely in your hands, though, and that can either drive you, or cripple you. That being said, if you stick to it not giving up when it gets hard, than you will walk away with so much more than you might have expected. It can change the way you live your life.

I recently graduated from a local State University with a marketing and business background. However, I wasn't fulfilled with the work I was doing and realized I wanted to learn new skills and better equipt myself for my professional career. I did my research and decided to commit to the Wyncode program.

Wyncode, with its disruptive learning environment, throws you headfirst into an intensive and stimulating experience. The staff is supportive and encouraging - especially Walter! He had an amazing presence in our class, always passionate about our learning and keeping our spirits high.

 

Wyncode is only a year old, so there is room for some refactoring and rearrangement of the curriculum but overall it was a life changing experience and I met so many amazing, wonderful people along the way.

Wyncode is an incredible program that in just 9 weeks teaches the fundamentals of programming and gives you a strong base in coding so you can keep learning. This program helps not only in your technical skills but also in your business basics. They will definitely help you land a great job. 

As a startup co-founder I wanted to learn how to code and not feel cheated when I talked to developers (just because I did not have an idea what they were talking about). After this course I feel able to code and keep learning to make a better product for my company.

So, if you are willing to quit your job (if it applies), sleep less than 6 hours per day (sitting in a computer) or listen to a class that you barely can understand, you are ready to do Wyncode. You learn how to build stuff and to know how stuff is made, start making your own projects, and work in an awesome environment. This is the right place to do it in Miami.

Before Wyncode I was in an IT career fixing computers, which I enjoyed and solved problems, but it was not self-fulfilling and the environment itself I was not a fan of. From the pitch day of the previous Wyncode I knew I wanted to be a part of what was going on in Miami. Once I started at Wyncode I knew I wasn't looking back.

The Wyncode program is very daunting while the course is in progress. But, it's like that for a reason. All the stress you're put under to learn and build all at the same time is done so that you can show what you can create once you dig deep. This isn't for everyone, you must be determined, and you must love to code. 

I have nothing but great things to say about Wyncode. The staff, the alumni, everyone apart of Wyncode is a part of one big family, and everyone is always eager to help if you have a problem. It really is something to completely change your life for the better. Wyncode will immerse you in a new enviornment that only leaves room for you to prosper.

In a very short amount of time, less than a typical SINGLE class (9 Weeks) ANYONE can learn the true fundamentals of coding, and what it takes to make a career of it. Wyncode accelerated everything about me. My business expertise, my coding knowledge (Troubleshooting Knowledge), and my own character development. Its truly amazing that in such a short amount of time, a program exists that can put you in a whole new world, where you are truly capable of calling the shots. The empowerment of having options and skills that are desired and believe me... THEY ARE DESIRED.

Besides knowing how to embed custom music-players back in the early-MySpace days, I had zero experience with code. I feel more accomplished right now than when I graduated from FIU (Florida International University) with my B.A. In today's world, it feels like getting a degree from a college that isn't in the top 20 is subpar. A lot of people are growing increasingly desensitized to these pieces of paper. I personally hide mine because, to me, it's a reminder of how lazy and unmotivated I was to get the thing. What Wyncode has done for each of their students (especially me) is give them something to feel proud about. Something to feel good about. Something to talk about. Wyncode is yielding clear and concise results indicating that unbundling education isn't the future, it's the present! We're at the forefront of it all with Wyncode in South Florida, and it couldn't have been more of an honor to be one of the first students to go through this life altering program. I'm excited to see what the future holds for all of us, and I hope to make the Miami Tech community (and Wyncode) proud one day. I recieved 3 job offers within the first week after the course. I'm in a unique position, and for the first time in my life I feel like an asset to a company (let alone three companies.)

I made a really tough decision to drop everything I was doing in life and take a chance on Wyncode. I'm glad I made that choice and I can proudly say that I am a web developer being hired before even finishing the course. I had a great experience at wyncode. They had great course material and the instructors and staff were amazing. It's a tough nine weeks but if you stick with it you will learn how to do some amazing things.

I thoroughly enjoyed the course and its instructors. The instructors were all extremely knowledgable, quick to offer a helping hand, very good at correcting my mistakes while simultaneously teaching me how to avoid such mistakes in the future, and often went above and beyond their responsibilities (many very late nights) to ensure that students were comprehending all of the material taught. There was also a thoughtful and purposeful degree of self-study required, as will be necessary when I enter the workplace. The guest lectures were directly-relevant to the current tech environment, and helped me to understand technology and its applications as seen from a variety of viewpoints (CEOs, investors, etc). The pass to the eMerge conference was also beneficial as it provided me with many great networking opportunities, the opportunity to observe first-hand the current tech field and its future iterations, and the chance to meet many potential future employeers.   The 9-week program was appropriately rigorous and required a lot of hard work, which is to be expected. I entered the program with no prior coding experience and leave confident in my abilities to perform in a junior development position for any company. I have learned a variety of programming languages, and looking forward to continuing to learn as the programming field continuously grows. I would like to personally thank the staff of Wyncode for providing for me in 9 weeks (and at a fraction of the cost) what my traditional 4-year degree failed to provide for me, namely, direct and relevant training for employment in a field that is expanding daily. I came into this course not knowing a single thing about coding. At most I had a wordpress site that I had purchased, and didn't know a single thing about how to use it or even change a background color. At first, I was nervous about not being able to learn and grasp the concepts. I tried all the online courses like codeschool.com and codeacademy.com, even some treehouse stuff, but I still couldn't tell the difference between a hash and my elbow. 

Day one opens the door to what you will be learning, and the instructors are your tour guides. The resources they give you both in class and outside of class are priceless. You have direct access to the instructor, and he will take his time and ensure that you know whats going on and why. Whatever the tuition cost I would of paid double, becuase the skills I learned in those 9 weeks has helped me continue to learn outside of the course.

1 year perspective of an Alumni and Teaching Assistant of Wyncode Academy

I could go on about the positives and negatives of Wyncode, but the 5 stars and positive words mean next to nothing when it comes to what it is that Wyncode has provided to me and many others that I have seen go through this course.

What did I see Wyncode as before I enrolled?

I had no coding experience - I was a chef. I've always had aspirations to do a lot, however I had not means to achieve anything. When I first heard of Wyncode I saw it as an opportunity to learn a skill set that I can create my own opportunities from.

What was Wyncode as a Student?

Every day was 100%, this was Wyncode's 1st cohort and I had no idea what to expect as far as structure and ability to learn from the curriculum; I saw this as an opportunity to use the resources around me and never get my mind off of my goal. As the course went on I never had a shortage of resources, Bryce and Ed were my go-to beacons for all knowledge. And When I didn't understand some code they wrote I was never afraid of asking them to explain, and they always did with very precise detail. But at the end I only got as much as I did from the course because I gave it my every being - Wyncode was my life for 9 weeks, no social life, no school, no work, just code.

What was Wyncode as an Alumni?

A new family. Now this is the really corny part - but it's true, you'll hear it time and time again. This is a bootcamp, we've all be through it, we all know what it's like, we help eachother out. The Wyncode Alumni network is massive and it's only increasing in size, most of the tech companies I know of have a student I've met through Wyncode.

What was Wyncode as a Teaching Assistant?

I've spent most of my time at Wyncode as a teaching assistant, first as a part time TA and then a few cohorts later as a full time Lead Teaching Assistant.

From the end of the first cohort Johanna and Juha asked me what I wanted to do after the cohort ended (job wise), and everytime I would persistantly tell them I wanted to be part of Wyncode. I fell in love with their vision and the tools that were given to me, I knew I had the skills to be able to teach students all that I had learned.

I had helped teach cohorts 2-5, and from that time range I noticed an extreme change in Wyncode's structure and curriculum. Because the staff believes so much in Wyncode's vision they constantly have improvement in mind - "What are we missing from the curriculum", "How can we teach more effectively", "What can we do for students falling behind", "What are hiring partners looking for".

Conclusion aka TL;DR

To re-state the title of this review "The start to an entire new chapter", before Wyncode I was a part time student at MDC and a full time chef and did not enjoy what I was doing - I was always frustrated and tired.

Now I am a full stack developer - my only limit is how much I am willing to push myself to grow, I don't need a 4year degree to show my skill, my work and my knowledge speak for me.

If you are driven, and if you are ready to change what you do - enroll for Wyncode.

If you enroll for Wyncode, be ready to give it everything. Throughout my year of involvement at Wyncode I've seen so many students come though and the ones who have done well are those who made those 9 weeks their life.

You can't make excuses, the results speak for themselves.

Enroll, get prepared, put in everything, carve your own path in life.

I attended Wyncode's second (and best...j.k.) cohort last fall. I can say that it was probably the best and most impactful decision I have ever made. I graduated college (undergrad) with a degree in Humanities (pretty much an art history degree) and mulled about for a couple years with no sense of direction, working a couple part time jobs here and there. Lets just say I'm a huge advocate of alternate education choices like dev boot camps now. 4 years at a traditional college did not give me the skills, opportunites, or job preparation that I needed, but this fledgling start up managed to in a very effective way. When I attended Wyncode, things like curriculum and daily/weekly agendas/operations had not been ironed out quite yet, and we were a big part of the process in getting those things ironed out. One of the best things about Wyncode is that every week, you will get to talk about what worked, what did not, and all of this input gets taken into account going forward. If you are interested in learning to code, there are an insane amount of options out there. Its hard to say which would be the 'best' route to take, and I was not even aware of all of these options at the time, but personally I am extremely happy I chose Wyncode. The founders are great, they are focused on making Wyncode the best and most effective it can be and they genuinely care about your individual success. Our main teacher, mr. Ed (for the Wynwood location) is by far one of the smartest people I've ever met, and definitely  the smartest who has ever provided me tutelage. He's also very patient and a great teacher and will take time to teach and help you on a individual basis. The teachers assistants are also great, and will do the same for you in terms of individual help when you need it. You may even see former students or just friends of Wyncode coming in and helping students out. There is just a fantastic amount of support readily available for you. The space is awesome, a big converted warehouse in the heart of Wynwood that is now a open floor/shared office space. 

Attending Wyncode will give you an invaluable, highly practical, and extremely empowering skill. They will push you to do things you never thought you could, like pitching an app that you built from scratch to a crowd of over 150 people. You will also gain fantastic mentors, and make a bunch of friends with your peers. I also can personally say that I got a job within two weeks of graduation and had many companies contacting me instead of the other way around about job openings. So yes, I would definitely reccomend it!

Joining the Wyncode Miami 4th cohort has been one of the best decisions of my professional life.  The 9 weeks of the bootcamp were jam-packed with challenging projects, insightful and well planned lectures, and drink-from-the-fire-hose abundance of opportunities to join the vibrant tech community of Miami.  I was able to leave my 19 year former career behind and have literally gone from taking my first step into the Wyncode classroom without any previous coding experience,  to taking my first step into a new job as a programmer in 13 weeks to the day!  

The Wyncode leadership, instructors and TAs are completely committed to their students' success.  I can't thank them enough for their support.
