    BrainStation Online

I attended BrainStations online UX Design bootcamp in 2021. I was brand new to UX design and didn't know if I was capable of completing the program. However, I was mentored and guided at every step. Clearly BrainStation has taken the time to make the most user-friendly program. Each unit informed the next. At the end of the program, I was sufficiently prepared to enter the job market as a strong UX designer.
I cannot recommend the UX program at BrainStation enough.

    Comprehensive curriculum and excellent educators

Overall, I had a very positive experience at BrainStation. The curriculum covers the core concepts and skills that are required for a Data Scientist. With topics covered ranging from querying relational databases with SQL, building and evaluating machine learning models, and exploring how to use Big Data tools, I feel like I am ready to tackle any task that I might encounter on the job. The homework assignments provided opportunities to apply the knowledge learned in class to practical scenarios.

The educators are very knowledgeable and are excellent at delivering the lessons. They are also very easy to reach when I required additional assistance. The Career Success team has been great at keeping up with my own personal job search after I had garduated from the bootcamp, and are also very easy to get in contact with whenever I needed job hunting tips.

With such a comprehensive curriculum, excellent educators, and a very caring Career Success team, I can confidently recommend BrainStation's Data Science Bootcamp for anyone who is looking to get started in Data Science.

    UX Design Bootcamp - Online

I had a really good experience with the UX Design Bootcamp at BrainStation. Throughout the 12 week online bootcamp I met other aspiring UX Designers throughout North America. I was hesitant at first because I've never done online schooling before, but it turned out to be a great experience.  The first two weeks were fairly chill, as they introduce you to UX but the remaining 10 weeks were quite intense. The educators in the BrainStation program are industry pros and knew the material they were teaching and worked hard to really make sure we were supported throughout the experience. The pace of the program was intense and if you want to do well, you have to put the work in, but the end product is worth it. Having a background in design definitely helps but the educators and support teams at BrainStation provide resources throughout for the content that was taught and the programs used throughout. We primarily used Figma for UI work. I would suggest the UX Design Bootcamp to anyone who's interested in UX and doesn't have any other commitments ongoing while taking the program.

    Data Science Bootcamp

The bootcamp was tough with a very steep learning curve. However, this enabled me to learn the broad spectrum of Data Science skills on both the theoretical and practical fronts. The bootcamp was catered to students with different level of experiences with some of us who had no previous coding experience (including myself). The weekly projects provide a good practice for the theoretical learning and an industry led 24 hour Hackathon gives interdisciplinary working experience (where you design a concept with UX Design, Web Development and Data Analysis students). The job support is ongoing even after the educational aspect of the bootcamp ends, with regular online meetings to chart progress and keep students motivated while assisting them with CV reviews and interview prep if required. In 3 words I would describe the bootcamp as "Tough but Effective".

BrainStation was an amazing experience! With direct and indirect support I was able to grasp a lot of concepts and knowledge that would have been difficult otherwise. Learning the technical skills is just part of the BrainStation experience, there is a whole other curriculum centred around becoming a professional in the industry. High powered and respected figures in their respective fields are also invited to speak and guide the BrainStation community on the experiences and obstacles they have faced and gave us tips on how to overcome these obstacles. I felt I grew as a person after this course.

    UX Design Diploma

12-week Bootcamp covers the UX and UI foundations. There was a good range of all things within the UXD discipline from research to strategy to prototyping. It's a good program to give the foundations you would need to become a junior UX Designer. I would have preferred a more in-depth design theory focus than we received though. A key thing to know is that whether or not you find a role after the Bootcamp ends is heavily dependent on whether or not you're willing to keep applying for roles, networking with other designers, and improving on your portfolio. The career success team is super helpful after the Bootcamp but their job isn't to do the work for you.

As somebody who has decided to change their career path, I think that this UI Design Bootcamp was exactly what I needed. Coming in I had only a vague idea about UI Design, but I was given the tools I needed to actually start working on my own portfolio. I appreciate Max and Tamira sharing their professional experience with us and always being responsive when I had questions outside of the class hours.

    Product Management Course

The online product management course at Brainstation was a great introduction to the methodologies that PM teams use. It's a good foundation to have to get started in the PM world. The class I was apart of was very interactive with one another which was a nice and comfortable environment to learn in. The course instructors were very knowledgable and encouraged the students to ask as many questions as we wanted. They also provided a lot of good resources for reference. Overall, I would recommend this course for those who are trying to understand what PMs do. The course would have been even better if we were allowed to go back into a classroom setting.

    Digital Marketing Certificate

This is strictly an introductory-level course, NOT suitable for marketers with more than 2-3 years of experience. Concepts are very high-level and theoretical. I could not get any clear information about the syllabus when I was considering enrolment.

    Here is the actual syllabus:
    • Introduction to Digital Marketing - what are some digital marketing tactics, what is a customer persona, general steps to defining a marketing goal, KPIs, customer journey
    • Content - what is content marketing, what are keywords, how to develop content pillars, what is copywriting, how to write a CTA and effective headlines
    • SEO - what are SEO and PPC, how organic search works, how to plan and select target keywords, how to apply SEO to website
    • Paid Search - what is PPC and how it works, what is quality score, keyword match types, what is a typical ad campaign structure, tips for writing ad copy, what are display and remarketing ads
    • Websites - what are the components of a website and landing page, difference between a home page and a landing page
    • Google Analytics - what is GA, how to look at various reports in the GA platform
    • Social Media - what is each social platform used for, differences between organic and paid content
    • Email - elements of an effective marketing email, how to use Mailchimp, why use email marketing, spam regulations, what is a drip campaign, different types of emails, how to map email to customer journey

My general feedback is that you can get all this and MORE for FREE at HubSpot Academy.
I chose this course because I was intrigued by the idea that we would be doing a project and it would be hands-on. I was hoping that the instructors and classmates would be able to help me shape my digital marketing strategy project, but I felt like their answers were always surface-level. In most cases, the instructor read straight off of the slides. I could get the same education from reading articles and watching YouTube tutorials. The main benefit for me was that it gave me a weekly structure to prompt me to complete my digital marketing strategy for a client.

    UX Design

The course outlined the principles of UX design in a clear way, and gave students access to tools (like Slack and Figma) that were needed to complete the course. The course consisted of 9 3-hour lectures, with a 10th dedicated to final presentations. The two deliverables were a final project, and a mid-term strategy submission that outlined key elements of that final project. The lecturers were clear, knowledgable, and approachable, and slides were made available to us both in advance of the lecture and after. I think future students might benefit if the course structure was shifted to allow for more frequent check-ins on learning progress, and possibly from smaller class sizes (to make this manageable). This course is a great tool for beginners who are looking to learn about UX Design, but for those looking to make an immediate career switch, be advised that there's more work needed after the course ends (particularly when it comes to portfolios).

    Data Analytics @BrainStation

This course is great if you are looking to build a strong foundation of Data Analytics, which I think everyone needs before they start learning more advanced programs like R or Python. S/O to John Duncan and Paras Batra who were my instructors. Those guys made this 10-week course so enjoyable and easy to learn. They've also been in the industry for many years so they know a lot of great resources. I just wish this class was in-person instead of online. I think that definitely would've helped. But overall, great experience.

Second chances are worth a try.

I am currently enrolled in the Data Science certificate program. It was an intense 10 weeks introduction in the world of Python and Data Science. The leading tutors of the course were knowledgeable, patient, and resourceful. Luis, Malika, and Xiaolei have awaken a curiosity for Math and Statistics in me that I haven't had in years. I am slowly coming into middle-age and I felt fully part of the young cohort. We did activities that reinforced concepts mentioned in class. The highlight for me is that all of the tutors are available even outside class to guide your training. Everyone was 100% giving. I would love to do this again. Working full time and part-time, I am still not tired yet. I can't wait to see where this takes me thanks to BrainStation. And a massive heartfelt appreciation to my tutors for always giving me a chance to catchup. I would endorse this program 1 million times.
