Read MoreThe learning structure of the bootcamp was good, there wasn't a week when it felt wasted. The emphasis is definitely more so on producing projects and completing challenges rather than getting a thorough understanding of the topic, which is understandable given the time constraints. However, as topics got more challenging towards the latter end of the bootcamp, this lack of depth proved to be more detrimental. So see the learning as a foundation to give you the gist of what to learn in your own time during or after the bootcamp.... Read Less
I think the real value of Makers comes from the large alumni network you are able to tap into and take advantage of at any point of your career. Additionally, being able to learn, pair-program and do team projects with other fellow learners is invaluable and is not easily replicated. Due to Makers reputation and selection process you are going to be in cohort with many amazing people that you will learn so much from and could help you down the line. There's also a big push on mental wellbeing and emotional intelligence, which is not necessary of a bootcamp, but just goes to show that Makers goes above and beyond for its students.- 219Reviews3CoursesTuring School of Software & Design is a federally accredited, online tech training provider turning driven students into professional developers. Read MoreTuring's program is simply excellent in all areas. The coursework is challenging, yet closely aligned with the real problems one tackles in the field of software development. While the learning progression is rapid, the curriculum is well scaffolded to bring learners along. There is a strong focus on the soft skills required to work as a part of a modern development team as reinforced by projects and assignments in teams of various sizes. Turing's ability to impart soft skills was something I didn't fully appreciate until after I had worked in the industry a few years and was sitting on the other side of the interview table. Turing graduates are well prepared to talk-the-talk of a developer technically, proficient in live coding exercises, and able to articulate pieces of valuable, non-coding wisdom they will bring to a team.... Read MoreI came to this review site before quitting my job and doing this bootcamp, so I thought it would be nice to come full circle and leave a review after starting my career in tech. Overall, the bootcamp is great - you learn a lot in a short amount of time. I would recommend a bootcamp if you are in a hurry to change careers. That being said, LHL is not responsible for the overarching job market / economic climate. When I graduated every tech giant was doing mass layoffs. Bear that in mind before making a decision. Nothing is guaranteed. After a total of 8 months (which includes 3months of bootcamp) i finally landed a junior dev role. And I was lucky. That being said, the support from career services was good. They help where they can. If I were to use an analogy: they are a passenger in the car you are driving. Is it worth the money? I'm not sure. I think that they do a lot of behind-the-scenes work that indirectly benefited me.... Read Less
Overall, if you are passionate about tech and want to start your career, give it a go. Life is too short.
For curriculum I would prefer not spending a week on Ruby. I think the curriculum would be better served with an extra week with React or learning Typescript. Pivoting out of Javascript for a week didn't feel worth it to me. On top of that none of the TAs who picked up my request-tickets knew the language. The only fringe benefit of the Ruby week was that it was nice to see the MVC approach.NEXT Academy

There was an option to go in the classroom but it was the middle of winter and leaving the house didn't seem as appealing. All of the instructors were great. They did a good job of explaining the concepts and helping you if you needed it. You will not be spoon-fed information. There is a level of expectation for you to put in some work so be prepared to spend some of your own time to figure things out. The Academy is founded on the belief that the best way to become a software craftsman is to learn from recognized software craftsmen who have proven their ability to train apprentices. Students of the Academy are immersed in a real software studio in Holly Springs, NC. The Academy is broken into three phases: skills immersion, apprenticeship, and residency. During skills immersion, students will learn test-driven development of object-oriented programming, web application development using Ruby, Rails, HTML, SASS, JavaScript, SQL, no-SQL, mobile development for iOS, data structures, design patterns, agile software development, and much more. Students who successfully complete the skills immersion matriculate to a 3-6 month apprenticeship developing real world projects under the supervision of master craftsmen. Finally, those who successfully complete the Apprenticeship phase will matriculate into a 3-9 month residency at RoleModel. Successful completion of the course is expected to end in full-time placement at RoleModel or referrals to other Craftsmanship-minded shops. The intent of Craftsmanship Academy is not to get a certificate, but to begin and guide the journey of Software Craftsmanship; as such, the school is highly selective and scholarships are available to the right candidate(s). Successful participants in the program will have gained everything he or she needs to begin a a successful Software Craftsmanship journey. Read More
