    Highly Recommend

ABOUT ME: Just to put my experience into perspective, I came from a varied background in sales, freelance photography and videography. I loathed going into my sales job every day and wanted a career change but wasn't exactly sure how to go about it or what direction to head. I randomly came across a bootcamp, and was intrigued at the idea. Become a web developer in 24 weeks? I had taken a basic HTML/CSS class in college several years ago, and while I certainly enjoyed it, that sounds a lit...

More valuable than many college degrees

Here's the TLDR, I would absolutely recommend attending this boot camp, with the caveat that you have to be realistic about time management. If you don't have to work while you attend, or if you work but have minimal commitments to loved ones, then you can get tremendous value from this boot camp, more than many college degrees would yield. If, on the other hand, you have to work a full time job and have kids or a significant other competing for your attention, then you may not get as much...

Admissions 'interviewer' is a is a condescending jerk

I got called by a very long-winded 'Admissions Advisor' for this program, 1st time during work hours at my job so I asked him to call me back the next day. The time we had agreed upon came and went, so I started playing a chess game online thinking he was not going to call. He ended up calling and asking me if I had time to chat (no indication this was any kind of formal interview) so I told him I did, although I was a bit distracted due to my game. He asked if I had any questions, so I as...

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with our team.  On rare occasions a call to discuss the program with applicants runs longer than anticipated, forcing the adjacent appointment to be slightly delayed. These initial calls are an important part of the admissions process and are designed to both discuss the program and determine initial fit. They usually last 30 minutes or so. We truly apologize for the 10-15 minute delay.

The Coding Boot Camp at UT Austin is a 24 week program with an intense curriculum designed to educate students on coding languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery and Node.js, Laravel, MySQL and MongoDB.

Learning to code in 6 months requires an incredible amount of determination and hard work. The entire team at The Coding Boot Camp at UT Austin is committed to both delivering a top notch education as well as helping our students change their careers through our program. We can only be successful in this commitment if we are extremely selective in our admissions process. Having students work together on challenging projects and participating in a shared classroom environment is an important aspect of the experience.

We understand that life is fast paced and it honestly sounds like the scheduled call was not an ideal time for you.  We would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you again, providing you with additional information about the The Coding Boot Camp at UT Austin experience. Most importantly, we really want to learn more about you. In the meantime, we wish you all the best and hope to hear from you soon.

    From beginner to web developer.

As with many of these reviews I will certainly follow up once the course is over. We are currently in week 18.

I can't speak for other students in the class but I can tell you my story. I started this course with no web development knowledge at all. I spent a couple of hours on freecodecamp before starting this course and I have watched online courses like Harvard's CS50 but I didn't know where to start when putting together even the most basic website.

Hi Michael! Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a detailed review and for your honest feedback. It's incredible that you have taken your time to help other students. That's EXACTLY the type of team environment we try to foster in the classroom and it makes us so happy to see you assisting your peers.

We place such high importance on instructor selection since it is absolutely key to the success of our program. The instructors really put their hearts into what they teach, and take such pride in knowing that they are facilitating a huge amount of learning that will ultimately allow our students to change their careers and lives for the better. The fact that you have had such a positive experience tells us we're doing exactly what we set out to do here.

Job assistance content will ramp up this month as you get further into the program. You'll have have Google coming in for resumes, Modernize coming in for mock interviews and help with LinkedIn, 30 second pitches and other job needs from Jeremy. July is going to be a really helpful month on that front.

Also, you are absolutely right that this course requires time outside the classroom to maximize the experience. It is a rigorous program and must be treated as such. You have done just that! To become an awesome web developer you need to put in the hard work. From what we've seen, you have set yourself up for some serious success.

Looking forward to helping you through the completion of this program, seeing where you land and hearing from you for updated feedback.

    Best career decision. Seriously.

    Hello everyone!

I am a student in the 10th week of UT Coding Bootcamp - I love it so far, here's why:

    1. I really like my instructor, Jim McCoy, he makes learning fun, and keeps the class engaged with humor. He explains concepts so well that those with little experience (me!) can still grasp the complicated subject matter. The teacher for the other class, Roger Le, is also a super knowledgable, helpful academic staff member.

Great Learning is unprofessional and has out-of-date course materials.

I signed up for the Graduate Learning Certificate Program through UT Austin for AI / Machine Learning and it has been a very frustrating experience. The materials have not been up-to-date, the mentor through the first 1/2 of the program was barely understandable, and now they have extended the program end date from mid-Dec to mid-Jan. In addition, they micro manage you by forcing you to attend a Saturday class weekly at 9:00 am in order to get credit for it, even though it is recorded an...

    Cyber Security Bootcamp

I attended the Cyber Security bootcamp at UT Austin. I had a great experience overall. I worked full time, and I found that part-time was not too bad to handle. I enjoyed what we learned curriculum-wise. I would have liked to learn more hands-on, current technologies in the Forensics unit. I really enjoyed the projects we did, however, I would have liked a little bit more diversity in the topics. For instance, instead of doing another red team vs blue team project, a forensics project wo...

Hi Anonymous, thank you for sharing your experience and writing such a detailed review! We would like to first congratulate you on graduating and completing the boot camp. We're so glad to hear that you found our team of instructors and TAs to be skilled and helpful on your journey throughout the program. We admire our staff and advisors; they truly love what they do, helping students learn new skills.

As you noted, this program is a boot camp and was designed to cover a great deal of knowledge in a limited amount of time. Rather than spending extended periods of time on one particular language or technology, we pride ourselves on teaching students how to learn, by giving them key foundational skills and a high-level understanding of a variety of topics. By equipping students with the necessary foundation, they are prepared to continue expanding their knowledge outside of class and learn new topics more quickly on their own even after the program ends. We do understand wanting to have spent more time on Machine Learning, JavaScript, or other topics, and we appreciate you sharing this with us, as we take student feedback very seriously. The topics currently covered in our curriculum are meant to touch on the key, overarching skills for data analytics, and we use market research and input from industry employers to continually improve on it and make sure we are teaching the skills that students need.

In regard to the number of group projects involved throughout the program, we strongly encourage group collaboration in order to promote teamwork as well as decision-making within a group setting. Our curriculum aims to help students solve complex real-life problems, and these group projects are a reflection of what individuals will experience in future tech roles. In any workplace, you might be asked to participate in various group assignments on more than one occasion, and we are ensuring that students are prepared to thrive in that type of environment.

We regret to hear that our career support services were not what you were looking for. We strive to set clear expectations about our career services, letting students know that while we do not secure direct employment, our philosophy is built on empowering students with the key, foundational skills needed to not only enter the job market but to sustain them throughout their professional careers for years to come. Like you mentioned, our immediate career services include resume support and technical interview training, and also 1:1 coaching, virtual tech panels, portfolio reviews, social media profile support, and more.

We want all of our students to feel prepared as they start the job search, and we would love to provide you with any additional career planning assistance or academic materials you need at this time. Please contact me directly at (512) 308-3584, so we can discuss how to best equip you for success going forward. You’ve provided some good insights into the classroom experience and curricula feedback, and we truly appreciate your honesty. We’re cheering you on and wish you nothing but the best!
