Ironhack

My experience at Ironhack was great as at the end I believe I reached my objective: landed a job on UX Design, (yay!) while also enjoying the process. How? 

This is a 9 week intensive course. And when it says 'intensive', it literally is. You have to work hard to learn the theories. Then do exercises to practice your newly acquired skills. And complete your projects to practice. Finally present them to an audience, as well as on your portfolio. 

What you will learn; 

Design Thinking Methodology; most of the tools you would use when you start working as a UX or UI Designer. Since you had already practiced them during your school projects you will not feel strange when your manager asks you prepare a User Journey for example. And this will help you to be operational from the first day of your job. 

Sketch App, Prototyping and Animation tools; if you don't have a graphic background you will struggle a little but you will definitely learn to create UIs and test them via these tools. The more time you put in, the better you will become.

Presentation skills; for each project, you will learn to present it to your audience. It's very important to sell your work, and you will not always have too much time to tell about your design process. So it's important to synthesize information, prepare it in a best way and capture the attention of your audience.

How to prepare your portfolio; presenting your work is also important on paper (or digital). You will learn to put every project you did on your portfolio, get feedback from your peers, teachers and TAs at the bootcamp. Ironhack has a culture based on constructive feedback, sharing information and growing together. 

Work hard & enjoy at the same time; although the bootcamp is difficult and exhausting at some times, i bet you will enjoy your time at Ironhack. Each time you accomplish a difficult task (eg. design the UX of a mobile app, from scratch, by yourself in 4 days!) you will feel the wonderful feeling of achievement and relief.

And last but not the least, if your aim is to get a new job, you will be accompanied even after the courses to reorganize your resume, write efficient motivation letters etc. as a junior UX desiigner candidate.

The Ironhack experience is tough but at the end it pays out for those who are willing to put the hours down. Its a great opportunity to learn from a highly qualified industry experts and increase your exposure to the industry. If you are looking to for a carreer move, improve or learn new skills that are highly demanded by industry participants, this is the place to be.

The experience at Ironhack was great! I do not regret doing this course. At the beggining I was not sure to join or not. In my particular case I was already an industrial and graphic designer. So I was not sure if I was going to learn new things. As is turns out it definetely complimented my skills and knowleadge. Now I can say i´m even a better and more broad designer. This course really teaches the specifics of how tech industries (the ux/ui part) really work. The people that work there are very professional and extremely kind. The placements manager is perfect for the job, he does care about the students and finding a profesional path for them post bootcamp.

Last Summer I attended Ironhack’s bootcamp in Barcelona and it amazed me with how much I could learn in such a short period of time. The staff and the teachers were extremely professional and helped me all the way, providing me all the support to give my best on every project. I strongly recommend this bootcamp if you are willing to change careers or if you plan on starting your own startup.  

Ironhack exceeded all my expectations. 

The curriculum is extremely up to date. We learned the MERN stack (Mongo, Express, React, Node). We worked on 3 portfolio projects (a videogame, a full stack app with a partner, and a full stack app in React on our own).  Our main teacher Hector Bliss has worked with Google, and is a fantastic communicator and coder (he's quite a funny personality too). The other TA's were very helpful and knowledgeable as well.  

The pace was definitely more intense than I expected. Even having a  Computer Science minor in university I still felt challenged by the material (which I loved!). You have to be ready to devote all your energy to this (up to 10hrs a day). However, this is what makes the experience so valuable.

The management team is super professional. Julian (the regional manager) is a native of Silicon Valley and has worked with many startups when he served as Global Entrepreneur Program manager at IBM.  Anahí was on top of every situation and always willing to help and listen to us. The program is very well organized.  

I feel like there is a shortage of React developers here in Mexico, so job opportunities are abundant now.  I validated that this week in our Hiring Week, having over 20 interviews with top notch startups and Fortune 500 companies. I am excited about the following months too where I will be have someone looking over my shoulder (Rocío the Outcomes manager) as I apply to jobs. This level of accountability is useful to me.  

I would recommend Ironhack to everyone who has the guts to take it on.

I was interested in changing my profesional career and for me ironhack was a great option to accomplish this goal. The experienced during the course was amazing, i had the oportunity to learn a lot of the trending technologies referenced to web development and also the comunity in the bootcamp is amazing.

Choosing Ironhack has been one of the best decisions I've made in my life. I have gone from not knowing what a pixel was to designing mobile applications and web pages. And not only that, I have learned that the word surrender is not in my dictionary. I would repeat the experience with my eyes closed.

I was a waiter before doing Ironhack,I had no coding experience and after two months I can transform my ideas into web apps. One of my biggest achievements here is reaching the level I  wanted to reach  as a developer. My learning curve was exponential and I'm proud to say that I'm a full stack developer. I met amazing people, amazing teachers and TA's, I leave Ironhack with great friends. We were always helping each other in class. I loved doing my third project with a friend.

I recommend Ironhack to anyone who is looking to change career!

I just finished the full-time UX/UI Design bootcamp at Ironhack, previously I studied Computer Science. It was an amazing bootcamp.

For me it was very important and a good experience. I would not doubt to recommend it course. Ironhack is a great place to study and expand your network.

I graduated in October 2018 and it exceeded my expectations! I worked as a HR manager in my “previous” life, but wanted to follow the technology trends and not become a ‘technosaur’. The Ironhack community is amazing and it manages to balance both the learning and social aspects perfectly.  Surely it was difficult at times, but being surrounded by a  a great team of students and instructors helps a lot. I came to Ironhack without hardly any knowledge of programming and nevertheless I was offered a job only halfway through the course!

I attended Ironhack's full time Web Dev course in Miami from August to October of 2018 and had the time of my life.

With no previous coding experience, I discovered that I had a great passion for coding and Ironhack's curriculum as well as its great instructors were able to help me turn that passion into a talent.

We were also the first cohort to learn React.js as a front end programming language and they did a fairly good job adapting the new curriculum on the fly considering how new teaching the language was.

Ironhack was something I grew to look forward to every morning, despite my hour long commute.  I walked into a classroom of strangers in august and left being able to count every single member of my cohort as a great friend.  I really loved my time here and I can't recommend Ironhack enough if you even have the slightest urge to turn coding into your career. 

Ironhack has given me the opportunity to refocus my professional career. In just five months (from the moment I met Ironhack, going through the realization of the botcamp and ending the hiring week), my professional career has taken a 180 degree turn: from a dancer to UX Designer.
I have received several job offers and I am going to start working in a company like Junior UX Designer only two weeks after finishing.
Without prior experience, Ironhack has given me the tools to face the world of work and, what is more important, it has given me the confidence to demonstrate my potential in this sector and the desire to continue learning.

Lessons broken. Fact! You will spend more time trying to debug than actually learning. Their lessons are worse than any tutorial you can find online. Vague lessons and the best they do is providing a link to the online documentation for the subject in question.

I took the part time course and I regret every single penny of the 12000 dollars I’ve invested on this.

The people are superb and think they’re better than you. And they will treat you like that! The Saturday presentations were marked by someone saying that he could be with his family, taking the day off, but noooo, he drove many many miles to be there for helping you. And you’re paying them 12000 dollars...

The classes are just something you could do by yourself: reading the broken lessons. And then, the professor has to spend 2 hours trying to fix the problem before starting reading the lesson again. The exercises you’re supposed to do during the class you have to do by yourself as “homework” and guess what: they’re broken. And the lessons are broken. So, reserve at least 3 hours of your day trying to debugging.

I just dropped out their “hiring fair” because they started treating people like they were making them a favor. Like if we was there begging for a job and they were the God of Jobs.

The staff is constantly changing. So expect you getting in to the building using your fob (you have to make a 50 bucks deposit for that) and the new security guy coming running, blocking your way and asking who you are.

Terrible experience. Even the Udemy online course has better quality than Ironhack. And the price is about 10% of the incredible 12000 dollars for people being mean, rude and ignorant to you.
