Coming into Coding Dojo's boot camp, I only knew HTML, CSS, and a little bit of JavaScript. I now can confidently say that I have accomplished learning three full stacks during the 14 weeks I attended the boot camp. The instructors were wonderful, the curriculum allowed us to learn the basics and also challenge us to research additional learning on our own, and the option to have a career services manager drastically helped in my confidence in finding a job afterwards.   Read less

The Coding Dojo is one of the most immersive and fun learning experiences I have taken. If you are looking for a career change or simply looking to learn, this course is perfect for you. You will be taught not only the fundamentals of multiple languages but you'll also be taught how to learn and teach yourself some stuff along the way. There are so many other learn-by-doing coding programs with better curriculums and at much lower costs. Unfortunately, this course did not live up to expectations for me. After starting at Coding Dojo I found there were gaps in instructional design and needed to supplement my learning with other programs such as Dataquest and Udacity which meant spending more money. These other programs were able to provide “the why” and “when” for writing the code. Coding Dojo used the same curriculum that they use for classroom instruction for online instruction. Most of the teachers and TAs were recent grads and if you had a question they encouraged you to read through everyone else’s posts first which was slightly different, especially when referencing local links. For the money, I expected more. When I spoke to admin they just wanted me to restart the course for an extra $500. I was putting in 20 hours/week on other platforms to learn the material and then having to do their assignments and just fell behind, so discouraging. Skip this course. Read less

CodingDojo was not for Beginners. They advertise: " I guarantee you" we will not kick you out when you struggle" . They accept you with not prior knowledge. No preWork. You discover that you will fail their Hard Belt exams. then push you back then ask you to repay then kick you out. This CodingDojo startegy just to collect as much money from people, Veterans then Sorry. Not at all worth it, just a crap school. liars.  Trying to connect with veterans went through same crap for class action against this school. If you want learn coding do the Free ones. The Coding Dojo experience was exceptional! I had no prior experience with coding prior to entering the full-time online bootcamp, which wasn't a problem given their well thought out curriculum and course roadmap. All the instructors I had were outstanding. They truly want each student to feel comfortable/confident with the information being taught. They will spend any extra time needed to help you better understand the material, on top of the instructors being available to you beyond the lecture time you have access to TA's that are AMAZING and always willing to give a helping hand. The program is very fast past and will require lots of dedication on your end to succeed and have it be worth attending. With all that said, I would highly recommend Coding Dojo to anyone who is looking to learn or even improve their technical understanding and abilities. I was extremely impressed with everything offered, from resources to curriculum to people, everything is top-notch, and I'm confident you will be as well.  Read less

I recently graduated from Coding Dojo’s Full Time online course late November. I come from a tech background but came into this boot camp with little coding experience, just some basic java knowledge. 
Going into the bootcamp I was intimidated by the amount of assignments and new information that was given to us. Luckily for the students, Coding Dojo’s instructors and TA’s are amazing! Whenever I was lost and did not understand a concept, the instructor and TAs are more than happy to help you understand the concept. Everyone there is there to help you succeed, even most students will lend a hand when you need it!

I work full time but would like to break into software development.  I did the part-time online program and Coding Dojo was the right choice for me. I came into the Coding Dojo with a little bit of experience with Javascript/HTML, but wasn't able to really do a lot with my knowledge.  Coding Dojo was logical, sequential, and practical.  I am now able to do the projects that I wanted to do and I understand how to work with the full stack.  The staff are great and their program is pretty comprehensive.  It takes a lot of time but if you have the drive and devotion you will do well.  Read less

This experience was one of the hardest things I've done. After spending 15+ years as a Directional Driller in Oil&Gas, I had to start a new career mid-life.  I didn't really know what I developing/coding was all about but thought that  tech is like a root system- it has branches into every industry. I was handy with a computer prior, but this is next level. Once I commited in my head I started some free lessons online trying to prepare.  I think I had maybe 2 weeks of learning some HTML/CSS prior to the pre-bootcamp material. 
I enrolled for the online-Fulltime even though I live in Dallas area.  Not sure if online or in-person is better/worse but the online worked for me.  I couldn't imagine spending the amount of time in-person.  I typically spent70-90 hrs/wk engaged between class and assignment material. When it came time for the Belt Exams, I did not take weekends off.  Often times I felt I had to leap frog some assignments just to keep up.  And then I could apply some of those lessons to the assignments I skipped over.

I took Python, MERN, and Java. Each of the instructors for these stacks were very knowledgable and eager to teach.  Didn't matter the silliest or dumbest question! All taught the how AND why. I cannot say enough good things about the instructors.

As far as material, I don't have much to compare but I'll do my best to analyze.  Plenty of material.  Plenty.  It felt as though I should have a little bit of coding understanding prior to bootcamp.  Remember, I'm a newbie. The Dojo likes to teach through example not direct.  This made it a real challenge for me/my learning style. I learn best by hands on and repetition.  Each day was sectioned off to a couple lectures and much "lab" time.  The lectures covered the topics that were supposed to be used in assignments. Because of the volume and pace, I felt I didn't have time to absord a concept before moving on.  So I did feel lost many times. But that is where cohorts come in. I'm a people person. The first day of class on Zoom we all kind of starting introducing ourselves in chat and stating where we were from.  I wrote down names and the cities of cohorts that lived nearby. I wanted to be connected to those folks and that is how i approached Coding Dojo.  I made great contacts who were same time zone and close and that stayed up working on assignements together.  I honestly feel that without the friends I made during the bootcamp, I may have not passed.  We would bounce concepts and understanding of material off each other and help each other out on assignments.  We encouraged and motivated each other.

All in all, looking back would I choose it to do over? Simply put, yes. What an experience. What a challenge.  Read less

On top of the mundane instructors (previous graduates), dry zoom calls where there is no interaction, and there constant lack of structure coding dojo is the worst experience. Demanding you putting 70+ hours a week and their phrase “your classmates are your best resources” just goes to show they dont know how to teach or help their students. You should save your 12,000 and go buy some udemy courses and some discipline and you will excel much farther. Also the positive reviews are fake because they offer gift cards and extended access to there platform. I would never recommend it to a friend and I hope this review is seen. Read less

An intense program in which they really teach you to program in three different languages in 14 weeks, with first-rate teachers. What I learned the most was to get out of my comfort zone and to think outside the box. I learned to learn and to be always curious to know more. Despite being an online program, the level of demand is incredible and the teachers are always available to answer questions and help you. Read less

Pros - The instructors are well prepared and knowledgeable. Curriculums are designed for students get their hands on and actually code. Algorithms they do every morning helps prepare students for technical interviews.
Cons - Due to pandemic the classes are held 100% online. Online class itself has its pros and cons but onsite would have been better for me personally. Read less

I loved Coding Dojo's graded, balanced approach to learning: do Black Belt challenges if you can, work on basics if you're not there yet. I felt like there was always room to grow but plenty of support. Instructors were mature and good natured, and didn't micromanage us. The approach was: learn some principles in lecture, then go code and collaborate. I started as a complete beginner but built three full stack application projects by the end of the bootcamp (in Python, MERN, and C#). Instructions are clear, instructors are fair, and you're in a position to learn as much as you can handle--whether you're a newbie or someone with industry experience. Read less

I graduated from the 16-week Bootcamp full-time course. Where I walked with almost ZERO knowledge in coding and web design. I ended up building apps and having a complete understanding on how to do so. The best part of this learning experience I would defiantly say is the support you receive in every aspect of the courses. From signing up to the assignments in hand to after class or before class help. The instructors really put that extra effort to make sure you understand what you are learning. Of course, you have to put in the time to get results and understandings on the material but when it comes down to it the amount you learn is very impressive!  Read less

The instructors at coding dojo have all been phenomenal and are very helpful and knowledgeable. I enjoyed interacting with classmates on assignments and helping each other to develop. Even though we had to switch the course to online, fortunately the teachers were great at always being accessible to help out. The course can be fast paced but it was an enjoyable time and the environment was great for developing team work and learning essential skills. Read less

I investigated four Bay Area programs and Coding Dojo's approach and curriculum was the most impressive. Being home due to COVID-19, I decided that it was time to take the plunge and commit to this learning. I chose the 16-week part-time program, which was still quite intensive. The online learning platform is very well organized, with my favorite parts being the instructional videos that accompany much of the curriculum and assignment solutions. Other pluses are the twice weekly live online lectures, optional Saturday algorithm sessions, and Mattermost communication platform (like Slack). I was a teacher and instructional technology specialist for many years and looking for a career change. We learn so much in a short period of time that it's quite amazing, but you REALLY need to be prepared to put in the time and commitment to learn the material, do the assignments and ask lots of questions. They advertise 25 hours per week commitment. It was more like 35-40 hours a week for me, but it was totally worth it. They also have a number of scholarships you can apply for.
