Affordable, Flexible, not great if you need your hand held
I chose NuCamp because it was by far the cheapest & most flexible program available. However, that does come with some downsides. I have only taken the Web Fundamentals course thus far, and cannot speak to the front-end or back-end sections. I have only taken the Web Fundamentals course thus far, and cannot speak to the front-end or back-end sections. I found the first two weeks of curriculum to be very well put together and scaffold understanding in an effective manner. However, me and my classmates became more frustrated near the end of the course, as the materials were clearly becoming less thorough and often assumed we understood certain concepts that we had not yet learned. The course probably could have been a little bit longer to give more time with Bootstrap and deployment, but ultimately it felt that the curriculum just tapered off - many videos were absent and there were issues with following the code in the video vs written instructions that caused quite a bit of grief for me and my classmates. Our instructor was indeed helpful, but did not have the ability to answer all of our questions or help diagnose issues due to the limited meeting time. Ultimately, this is the type of camp that is great for the self-learner, but I would not recommend it if you are not already fairly comfortable with technology or don't know how to find answers for yourself. Nucamp was way to learn coding for me. I researched many alternatives. I first considered very low-cost methods like buying books, reading websites, watching YouTube videos, or attending low-cost International courses with instructors who had hard-to-understand accents. I also, considered in-person bootcamps but they were all very expensive, plus they required you to quit your day job to study full-time for several months which increased the overall cost.
I was happily surprised to discover this highly rated online program called nucamp that provided the coding knowledge with a structured timetable to start and complete the material. I could maintain my day job and study during my free hours. I could ask questions when I needed extra help and I could attend an in-person instruction class weekly via Zoom. The instruction was spoken with clear easy to easy-to-understand neutrally accented English, super refreshing.
