Nucamp

I decided to enroll into Nucamp for the experience of learning something new. I personally want to pivot my career and I felt this was a good fit for my lifestyle given it's affordable and flexible with my daily schedule. With all that Nucamp has to offer, I will continue their courses throughout the year. Knowing that they also offer payment options is the deal breaker for me. I really enjoyed the Web Development Fundamentals class.  I have past experience in development but was out of the game for nearly a decade.  I took this course as a refresher and to catch up on changes within the industry.  The class really helped me get back into development.  The exercises are self-paced and give you an opportunity to practice what you're learning.  The instructors are knowledgeable and helpful and are very willing to answer any and all questions whether in the weekly class or during the week on Discord.  I highly recommend this class for both newbies and people with some experience. I signed up for this bootcamp as a review of long lost skills but found I learned a lot. I also wanted to see if this format would work for me before signing up for a longer bootcamp, which I decided to do at the end of this intro course. I chose Nucamp because I wanted a format that offered feedback from another "live" individual. Self-study makes it too easy to lose focus because other priorities can place demands on one's time, and sometimes it is good to hear an explanation that comes from outside of one's personal experience.
I chose this course of study for several reasons:
1. I want to continue to develop my skillset in Information Technology without the need to invest in (constantly changing) equipment such as infrastructure technologies.
2. Front end tech gives me the ability to create a solution from conception.
3. I want to choose whether to work for an organization or independently. Read less

I am at the point in my life where I'm ready for a major career change.  I have always worked on the front line of IT in project management, product management and business analysis.  However, I have always been fascinated with coding and have worked so closely with Software Developers the majority of my career.  I found Nucamp via LinkedIn and could not believe how affordable they have made it to pursue a career in software development.  It took me awhile before I finally pulled the trigger and enrolled in the Web  Fundamentals class to get my feet wet and I'm so glad I did! I love the structure of the lessons, my instructor was fantastic and being able to attend workshops every Saturday was so beneficial for me to retain what I learned throughtout the week as well as staying connected with and learning from my other classmates.  I absolutely love the way Nucamp has structured their bootcamps and I learned so much. I'm now completely sure that I want to keep diving deeper.  I will be moving on to the Full Stack bootcamp in January and I'm so excited about what I will be learning and what 2024 has to offer regarding job opportunities as I know Nucamp is providing me with all the information I need to be a success!  I would highly recommend this bootcamp to anyone! I'm an Information and Communication Engineering Master's student from Germany, but to be honest I never really liked my Master's degree while I've been here. So, after becoming a permanent resident of the U.S lately; I've decided to join a Coding Bootcamp which has been on my mind for a long time since my plan is relocating in the U.S. I made my choice for Nucamp and started to write code from scratch. Nucamp is the perfect comination of self-paced study during the week and live workshop on the weekend. The Web Development Fundamentals course gave me the skills, and confidence, to build and deploy a webiste on my own. Joining the Nucamp Web Fundamentals Bootcamp was the best thing I could have done. If you are on the fence about starting a bootcamp, don't be! Do it! Are confused about wich bootcamp is the best...it's NuCamp! Their inclusive, each one teach one culture is what made all the difference for me. The Discord server, the access to the actual CEO and instructors who actually made the videos you will learn an absolute TON from, the lifetime access to the bootcamp's coursework all make NuCamp stand out from the rest. I haven't even mentioned the price point yet..NuCamp is the most affordable bootcamp you will find and the most flexible, however, do not confuse affordable with it being cheap! NuCamp is the best bang for your buck and they could easily charge thousands more for their bootcamps but they do not because they believe that learning how to code should be accessible to everyone. Enrolling in Nucamp was a great decision! I have been going through every course they offer and it has been great. The Backend, SQL, and DevOps with Python has been grueling at times, but that is what I signed up for. All of the instructors I have had so far have been extremely helpful. My experience at Nucamp, where I've been learning front-end and full-stack programming, has been incredibly rewarding. I can confidently say that I've learned a lot during my time here. The learning process at Nucamp is not just helpful but also engaging.

In particular, I've had the opportunity to dive deeper into programming and expand my skills, especially in understanding and working with APIs. This has opened up new possibilities and improved my problem-solving abilities. Looking forward, I'm genuinely excited to explore the realm of different cloud connections in our full-stack courses.

- The Price
So right off the bat I should say, me and my brother both started two different bootcamps at nearly the same time. I went to Nucamp, he went to Tech Elevator. He did 14 weeks of fullstack, I did 16 weeks of backend and python. In total, I spent ~2622$(for a short preliminary bootcamp + the backend one), he spent ~16,500$(for one, with a required interview to even participate). All this to say, for the amount of money spent vs the amount we actually learned, these two classes are very competitive with each other. Both of them require a lot of self study to really understand anything as you go. The extra money spent didn't add much.

- A Small Catch
HOWEVER, for Nucamp you will need to provide your own hardware, which unfortunatly stoped one of the students dead during the first run of classes. His computer didn't support Virtualization Technology. If you're considering this course, check your computer's BIOS or UEFI settings to see if you have these features. It is manditory from word go. You can still get by quite well on a budget build PC for EASILY less than 1000$ more, so you'd still be saving a ton of cash in the end (Which is what I did). If doing either of these things is too much hassle for you, I'm not sure you'd do well in either of these courses. Don't be afraid to to break things in your computer. It might be a pain to fix it when you do, but as a software developer or especially as DevOps, this is pain you will need to experience at SOME point. Better now than on someone else's computer where your job is on the line.

- a VERY brief overview
The course is split into three runs of different subjects. Python, Data-science, and Operations (basicly). With an overarching theme of using Python for EVERYTHING. The first run was the easiest to follow and best structured, the second run was the worst, the third was just fine.

The first run was likely easier for me due to prior experience in Java. It was still the best run with the best instructor. Super straight forward, and required the least amount of external resources to understand.

The second week of the second run was the point I nearly dropped this course due to the ridiculous amount of stuff that gets introduced and then immediately dropped just to explain more new stuff. The lessons just overcomplicated things. In reality what you NEED to learn from that run is much simpler. Knowing that going in will make your life easier. I learned more in one day reading external resources than I did in the entire run.

The third run would've been much easier for me, but I had mass hardware failure and needed to shift over to a different computer to finish. (This had nothing to due with the course or it's quality, but I thought you should know). The run was mostly spent learning how to deploy programs in a cloud environment, and using Github. Very informative overview of many different technologies and coding practices. (AGILE, WATERFALL, SCRUM, etc) But nothing in-depth.


TL;DR Overall above average quality course. EASILY WORTH THE MONEY compared to other bootcamps. Career services sold separately (and still cheaper).

I enrolled at NuCamp after searching for months for a great bootcamp at an affordable price. NuCamp did not disappoint. The learning material was amazing, and I learned so much in a short amount of time, but I did have quite a bit of coding experience beforehand. I learned devops practices and containerization technologies which was completely new for me and was by far my favorite part of the whole bootcamp. I am now enrolled and on track to become a certified docker admin and azure developer through Azure and Docker. 
I will say though the job-hunting side has been null. NuCamp has an automated system that sends job postings that are no longer valid. So, keeping that updated would be really good. All of the apprentice and entry level job opportunities I have applied for (over 100) from links posted in NuCamp's job openings discord channel have turned up null as well. With a military background, some college, and a bootcamp completed, I have four projects on my GitHub, with a great understanding of programing, but without a BA, companies hardly look twice at you. 
Companies would rather take a freshie out of college with no experience over bootcamp graduates with skills and military backgrounds. 
Even the companies who have "partnerships" with NuCamp to hire their graduates, such as Accenture leave a lot of students', including my apps floating in limbo without even denying our application. 
The bootcamp was really great, had great material, and no matter what kind of background you come from, you will come out of it a better programmer. Just finding jobs in an oversaturated market seems to be very difficult. I ended up doing an experiment and listed on my indeed I had a BA in something unrelated to software such as liberal arts. And i got a ton of interviews after that, which proves companies do not even care if you have a software related degree, you can have whatever degree and they will still hire you and train you in their software language than hire a bootcamp graduate. which is very discouraging. 
The only thing I wish NuCamp offered was more advanced course in containerization technologies with the cloud services of our choosing. Like AWS charges you even in the free tier and educational material aws offers, but azure keeps everything free when you are going through their learning platform. So as a student being able to choose what cloud platform to learn would be very beneficial and give students the ability to specialize in one and become proficient at that one, instead of learning a little bit of all three cloud service providers. All in all I would say the bootcamp is worth it but be prepared to look into more cert programs such as official certs through docker or the cloud services so that you are more appealing to companies.  Read less

I am very glad that out of all the opportunities available to me, I chose “Nucamp”. This is an affordable option (especially compared to Israel), a flexible schedule (you can choose a day for workshoop), and the ability to combine it with work (but don’t think it will be easy). Changing careers can be a daunting decision, but for me, the transition from a career in Speech Language Pathology to Software Development has proven to be an exceptionally wise and fulfilling choice. This career shift was driven by a combination of factors, and I can confidently say that it has been one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Why the shift made sense: First of all I have a passion for problem solving , development of new skills, remote work flexibility, and aligned with my interest.
After this boot camp, I am seeking a remote software developer position that offers flexibility as it aligns with my goal of providing better care for my family. Read less

Ultimately this bootcamp good price and reviews were what made my decision to dive in. I liked it, although I struggled a little with the speed of the program and sometimes with trying to keep up with all the tutorials and information, especially with Javascript and React, for me though. I liked how we were able to understand the courses by getting our hands on the 'nucampsite' app/assignments from the beginning of the bootcamp to the end, but at the same time I wish we had another app or assignment to focus on so we could understand more how we could implement our code on different sites/apps in the future. Maybe there should be more than once a week workshop? Read less
