Ubiqum Code Academy

I was doing my masters' degree in Space engineering and I was unhappy as I didn't find anything that kept me interested and devoted. I had tried a few things in data science and tried to self-learn but I  realized quickly that the initial learning curve in this was really steep.  I have heard people use the phrase for data science - "It's easy, It's not Rocket science", but having studied rocket science as well,  i found out that data science was not easy.  
Browsing through hundreds of online courses and trying to learn from thousands of resources I was overwhelmed by the ever-changing and ever upgrading field of Data Science.
I needed some structure and a beginners level course which was a challenge to find.
I came across the data science course offered by Ubiqum and decided to enroll in it. 
Their  “learn by doing”methodology really focused on the practical aspects of data science which helped in greatly reducing the steep initial learning curve. Having said about the practical aspects, theoretical aspects are not forgotten either and the mentors discuss all the theory before, during and after every task.  
The projects are designed in such a way that the difficulty levels up with every subsequent project and this helped me build up a very strong base.
I now have completed many projects at Ubiqum and ventured deep into the domain of data science and I would like to thank Ubiqum to provide me with the catapult which helped me launch myself into a career in data science. 

I was working in a complete different field, but was always interested in coding. Before hearing about Ubiqum, I thought that this was only for engineers/computing experts.

When I went to my first interview at Ubiqum they open my eyes and showed me that this is something for everyone that want to become a developer without any previous experience.

What makes Ubiqum different is that it is the only bootcamp available in Barcelona for people with no previous experience in this field using the "Learning by doing" method. It is a full time course, from 9 to 17(Monday-Friday) that last 5 months. Overall in this 5 months you will go from 0 knowledge to obtaining the basics all developers need in the frontend and backend area.

Even though, you will have dedicated mentors supporting you throughout the entire course, they won't give you all the answers; instead they will guide you so you can look for the answers yourself which is what true developers do and what will be require in any company you join.

Without a doubt I will 100% recommend Ubiqum for anyone that wants to learn and join this crazy world of coding.

I use to work in sales in a small familiar company, I was really upset with my job, so I decided to change and I jump into this world. Ubiqum helped me to make this transition, supporting me during bad moments, they are very lovely people and very friendly. But for me the main point is the work environment and philosophy, since the first day looks like you are in a technology company with daily meetings, limit dates and projects to work on. 

In the begining of the year 2017, I started to be interested to learn programming  as I found out that the job market is digitalising and there are lot of positions in IT sector and I struggled to find a job in my sector (chemistry). However, the studies were very costly but I found out the posibility to get the scholarship with UBIQUM and I was selected to  start the course with 24 other young people from diferent backgrounds. The profesors Thomas and Gisela were very kind, explaining everything from zero in very simple way.  We have realised several web and mobile app  projects and learned HTML, CSS and Java Script. I am very satisfied with the course and I recommend UBIQUM for everyone who wants to change or to learn programming. Also they help you to find a job. So the only thing what you need is your motivation! It is not so hard as it seems :)

I did the data analytics online course at Ubiqum Code Academy.

The methodology encourages you to face real world problems and solve them in the same way problems are solved in companies.

At the same time you learn the tools to face data analysis and how to communicate results and insights to your workmates and how data gives new opportunities to your company. 

It is the perfect path to be able to work right after finishing the course. 

At first, I was in shock as I didn't  know a thing about coding, little did I knew that I will me doing my first web page in a couple of weeks. Their method is learning by real life examples and the challenges increase every task but at the end, you feel capable of facing any obstacle that comes to you.

Recruiters started contacting me throughout the course as they knew the level that ubiqum's students offered them, and I felt very comfortable at the interviews because I had experience with what they wanted for the job offers.

Personally, I've long wanted to learn the HTML5-CSS3-Javascript stack. But I could not find the motivation to reach my goals. In a few months in Ubiqum I have managed to make a great leap in my learning, with concepts of Vanilla.js, UI pattern, MVC, DOM, BOM and many others ...

Now if I feel that I am advancing and every time I have more desire to take a new step in Front-end to get closer to the world of work.

Before enrolling the Full Stack Developer Program at Ubiqum, programming was just a hobby for me, and the code I used to write was a bunch of messy incomprehensible lines. The teachers at Ubiqum took me to a whole new level and shaped me into a professional developer in just 16 weeks. Even more remarkable, some of my classmates that hadn't written a line of code before, became proficient just as fast. At Ubiqum you start coding from day one, developing projects that are fun and challenge your logic thinking skills. The atmosphere is chill and friendly and you learn to work both individually and within a team. Besides the curriculum itself, Ubiqum provides access to a whole bunch of extra resources that help you reach your goals: job application prep sessions, tech talks and other fun events for team building. I recommend Ubiqum to any person which passion for coding and goodwill to take new challenges.

During the COVID crisis, they claimed bankruptcy, disappeared from a sudden and abandoned us. Of course they didn't give any explanation nor returned any money. Now there are no COVID restriction they opened again without communicating with the students that were affected.
During the course, all they gave us were some youtube links of free resources and even the softwares we used were a trial.
Basically a scam.

 

Ubiqum requested us to post a review since last year, I waited to finish another Analytic course (cheaper), a free online course before sharing my experience.  

 

I am not new at coding, I do some SQL, advanced Macro for years . From past experiences, I benefited a lot from job shadowing, face to face mentorship (from experts at my workplace and online course, then consolidated and grew more skills thru tasks and time). So I was attracted by the "learning doing" at your pace advertised.  Also, they had "good" reviews too. Though mostly from the Spanish campus and I guess by now, most done before 2019 before Ubiqum expansion in other countries, all that led me to enroll at Ubiqum in 2019 on site. FAR BEFORE THE 1st COVID ALERT IN CHINA, so any lockdown in Europe.... 

 

From week 1 I felt low spirited, by week 3 hearing the same from other disappointed students about the outdated curriculum and the unskilled frustrating mentors; I realized I had to quit the program and send a request for the refund. I was informed that the cancellation period was over. 

Until today I deeply regret that choice, I lost hard earned savings . 

 

Do not even make me start on their Job support... They do not get you the job, nor in any effective way help you finding one. 

My cheap online class offered: online professional resume help and support+ technical preparation for challenges or case studies for interviews. 1000euros vs 10000euros.

 

With so many people financially struggling with the current market, economy, I can definitely say that Ubiqum was not worth it at all.

The course is set up in a good way starting with easy coding working up to full stack programming. Every project gets a little harder. The step from front end to full stack is actually quite big and not very gradual. 
The good thing about the program is the fact that you have a mentor with lots of experience in the industry. They are what gets you through the hard times when you get really stuck. They are also very flexible and open to helping you with technologies outside of the program as well. 
The manual is a bit outdated, but the mentors make up for that. 

I found a job within the industry within 2 months after finishing the course. It wasn't super easy as most companies want 2/3 years of experience even for junior positions. But when you really emphasize that you start programming from the first day and you have a nice portfolio in github, it will convince companies to invite you for interviews.

The course content and projects are outdated, without proper theory to help on the practice.
The mentors are ridiculously under skilled and not experienced. Mentoring is not mental coaching in coding as they like to say, before they turn sour on you for asking them a question instead of sit down and figure your shit alone while paying 9900euros.
The administration is in limbo.
The job support is one of those huge marketing lie promising what they can't offer.

You wished you've paid for skilled and knowledgeable mentors. Their ridiculous assumption that a mentor is there for cheering and not teaching is to hide from their shortcoming. No care from mentors, busy chatting, job hunting or doing their own learning online.
Their standup meeting and presentations are all about marketing and 0 tech science orientation...the intend to copy and turn us into Shark tank, Dragon den suitors was ridiculous, but we had to do it, waste time, when we'd rather study and learn more... their so called flexibility.
Indeed in the kingdom of the blind the one-eyed are kings. Our early ignorance was a bliss for them.
Almost 10 000euros for 30minutes daily meeting with a mentor, to sit in a business location, in front of your computer, in CROWDED TABLES receiving new students each month, and others giving up the week after.  Students are complaining behind closed door, afraid to receive backlashes from mentors.


Management NEVER replied to our emails, the turnaround at the headquarter is terribly high, guess why.
The curriculum in class was maybe well priced at 4000$ few years ago,  but they bumped the price and extended to play among the BEST worldwide bootcamps , but they are providing VERY POOR services.

I won't even start with their not updated websites ( so many broken links), tons of youtube videos, old case-studies. Mostly R, when the environment is fast pace, and Python should be added. Their AWS training is shameful,  one week to learn AWS. Furthermore, beyond student fees , we had to pay more for AWS practice.

Well, Job support, IN THE NETHERLANDS, THERE HAVE 0 SUPPORT, NO NETWORK, We met some past students, they are still job hunting. You job hunt, apply to a certain number of applications you found on your own...

Management should pay us back some tuitions, we paid full tuitions for in-class and half was done online ( we all suffer from Covid financial cost, use dour savings, not able to find a job etc)

2 weeks into the program ( the refundable fees), they wanted us to write reviews, most did, so the 4 or 5 stars. I waited and indeed here are the facts, you pay 10000euros for :
% 0 administrative support in the Amsterdam campus, never heard from the office after the tuitions were paid. 
% free youtube videos, a platform with tons of broken links
% potentially 10minutes with 2 of the graduate-students/mentors annoyed at your questions.  They would rather play on their computer, chat with their colleagues, or even flirt around.
The mentors have a very limited theory and not enough coding practice. Not enough professional experience to help you understand the way business is done in that fast pace environment, just dummy stories found online.
I saw several students finishing the day frustrated without any mentorship all day along after long waiting periods. Others scared and apologizing when asking 5 minutes of mentorship.  

Ubiqum does not have business connections in the Netherlands as advertised. 
I earn my bread by the sweat of my brow, I saved for that bootcamp, and sadly here I am.

During this pandemic, I am learning the same or more from Free Online material! I thought my 9900euros will provide me with more tools, I was fooled by their marketing.

Here is the 9900 euros favorite "story telling" methodology from Ubiqum :
- a daily gross copy of the American standups will suffice. 
- we're 2 mentors at most, over a dozen students; each group has a different starting date. So, please book a 15 mns appointment max. daily.
- here are your 10000 youtube videos and tons of free online material gathered for you. And, you have access to Ubiqum website right? Cool, just follow the plan of attack and drink tons of coffee if available! 
- hey, a presentation of the project is expected, a bit earlier than scheduled. Sorry, for that one, we have to be on schedule. Just do it, everything will make sense after the bootcamp. May the forces be with you! 
 
And, oh please do not bother us unless you really want us to avoid you, follow the plan of attack, finish the projects. We are mentors and not teachers. "HERE AT UBIQUM WE DO NOT TEACH THE THEORY". Go back to your seat, we have to prepare more space for the upcoming newbies, go back to our own learning too, and enjoy some chats etc. 

Okay, soooo no theory. Then tons of practice and surely plenty of work experience that could serve us, right?! 
After hearing the feedbacks given by the mentors to some students far more 'experienced' than them, I got my answers.Even in the Netherlands, none of us dare to be direct. It Is funny how the Web development students envy the apparent 'structured' Data Analytics department. We bite our tongue too long, expecting things to get better. 
Unfortunately, the 10days refund period is gone. Anyways, I am still waiting for a reply from the head office in Spain. So, who am I kidding? 
My money is so gone, and good luck finding a job in the field within 6 months per as Ubiqum ads with my current skills.

I was a student at a Ubiqum bootcamp in Amsterdam. The best thing I can say about the bootcamp is that the learning content itself is good. If you're a good self-learner you should opt for the online version of the bootcamp. Although at 5000€ the online course is still expensive compared to the best worldwide online bootcamps. Better yet, google some learning resources and save yourself the money. The 9900€ on-site bootcamp is a total waste of money, especially considering there is no Python in the curriculum. Some professionals just wanting to upgrade their skills did skip the jobsearch section and save 20%.
The rest of the bootcamp suffers from major problems. First of all, the ratio of students to mentors is way off.  It was at most 2 Mentors for 10-20 students during the bootcamp, with some time with only one. This resulted in very little interaction between students and mentors. Mentors were not very happy to be disturbed with questions while doing their own things; "oh well, its a self learning class" they said. So why would anyone pay 4000 extra for the on-site version rather than the online? Since the mentors were both recent graduates of the same program I could relate to them as a new coder but they had trouble addressing questions that reached beyond the exact content of the materials. 
The promise of finding a job in Amsterdam after completing this R oriented bootcamp was unrealistic. The 20-week bootcamp has only 14 weeks dedicated to learning code. 

When I started the bootcamp at Ubiqum, I knew very little about coding.  4 months later, I got my first job as a Junior Developer. 
I can honestly recommend this course to anyone eager to learn and ready to invest their time and energy. The method applied at Ubiqum really works - it is incredible how much you can learn during this relatively short time. From day one you start working on your own projects and you are guided through diverse challenges in the way that teaches you to work autonomously and find solutions to problems yourself. 
To me, it was an amazing experience in a friendly, nurturing environment with inspiring and supportive people. 

One of the best decisions I made in my life. I took a risk signing up for a bootcamp I didn't know if I would like or if it would really help me land a job, but it totally worked out.

The environment, the mentors, the partners... everything was great. The staff working there was flawless aswell. They made me feel part of a family for 5 months and they thaught me the necessary skills to go out there on my own and find myself a job.

I could go on and on about the academy, but really...if you want to do a bootcamp, you better sign up for this one and then you will get to experience everything and see I was right.

I decided to start this part time course for 3 main reason:

1.-  From my experience most of this educational courses offers a theorical and general contexto of data analysis, but this one, gives you a REAL theorical and practical knowledge of what data analysis and how to code through R.

2.- I can combine my day a day job with this course. It offers the needed flexibility to adapt to high work moments and still continue working in the task.

3.- Finally, it gives you the chance to apart from the course background, start your own data project in your work.

Very happy with the content, the mentors and the results. Sometimes its hard but worth it.

The learning experience at Ubiqum was amazing, the work environment was very pleasant and I got to meet a lot of interesting people who were also trying to change their career just like me. 
At Ubiqum, they use the Learn by Doing methodology. That means that instead of having lessons like in a typical course, I was embedded into a work environment simulation from day 1 with client requirements to cater to and deadlines to abide to. This really taught me how the day-to-day life of a developer goes and how to be effective in such situations. To accomplish the fictional client's request, all the class was given a Plan of Attack outlining one possible way to solve the tasks and a set of related resources to learn how to go about solving it. I found this very interesting since you not only learn the basics on web development but also how and where to find high-quality information on the web. 
The program itself is slow at first but it ramps up as we learned more and more concepts. It really takes dedication from the students and the will to learn and improve yourself as a person. Upon finishing the program, I not only knew how to build a web page's front and back end, but I felt confident that I could build on the strong basic structure that Ubiqum gave me and learn on my own how to use further tools and frameworks that my future employers could require.

This is not an easy course, it takes real dedication and the will to learn. But this is the best simulation of what the actual work-life of a developer is and I am 100% satisfied with my experience at Ubiqum.

I was looking for a system to learn web-development but never had time, proper tools and plan of attack to start studying by my self/on-line platforms. Ubiqum offered the ideal conditions and I could start from zero, with basic and important topics such as HTML5, CSS and JavaScript among others in the front-end web development bootcamp. I would say that Ubiqum is a great code academy for those that are looking for some learn by doing experience, good environment and guidance to give the first steps into this career. 

I'm about to finish the Java Developer course where I've had the opportunity to implement some technologies that I already knew, such as HTML, CSS and Javascript, together with new knowledges related with Back-end absolutely new for me (Java). Until now I had just developed webs with Wordpress and made some little exercises with HTML, CSS and Javascript, but I had never implemented all these technologies together in real projects like real life, so this is the best point of Ubiqum for me: you work like you will do in a real company. Mentors are nice and help you when you are blocked (some more than others ;D) and they help you with finding job process. This is the other strong point in Ubiqum: you don't leave the school until you have the job. This school compromise was the point why I decided to sign up into the course. In resume, if you are looking for entering to web development sector, Ubiqum will make it easier for you.

my name is Luca Bellarosa and I recently finished the course on Data Analysis and Big date at the Ubiqum Code Academy in Barcelona, starting from October 10th of 2016 and ending on February 10th of 2017.
The course is very dense and since the beginning you are asked to solve issues in real case scenarios, while at the same time learning new software, concepts, and programming.
Even if intense, the methodology employed by the academy, the so-called "learn by doing" approach, helped me to fix in my mind the new concepts of machine learning, R programming, and forecasting that I was discovering on a daily basis. Weekends were used to round off my knowledge of machine learning by studying the resources that are available to all the students.
During the course you are required to report on your findings on a weekly basis, and this helps you further in fixing the concepts in your brain.
The presence of a mentor that stays with the students during all morning helped me to solve many issues that inevitably arose during the course, without feeling the social gap there is between a student and a professor: this point is very important to me.
Moreover, after the first month you start to make some coaching sessions to help you get rid of insecurities and to ease your entrance in the job market.
Finally, the academy itself helps you with the CV and Linkedin and by hiring another company specialized in job finding in order to maximize your chances to find a job.
The main problem of the course, in my opinion, is that the agenda is incredibly dense to be just 4 months, but I recently found out that they increased the time of attendance to 5 months, so this is not an issue anymore.
All in all, my opinion about the course is very positive, and it promotes a way of learning definitely more practical and long-lasting.

It was a surprise for me to understand that Ubiqum was not only a boot camp, it was also a way of life. Ubiqum has undisclosed inner faculties that I did not even know were inside of me. It was awesome to develop all the skills and to acquire the knowledge to become a true Data Analyst with a team I will never forget, and to have grown for these months with all the companions and projects I will never leave behind.

La realización del curso de Data Analytics y Big Data en Ubiqum me ha permitido iniciar y desarrollar con entusiasmo mi trayectoria como Data Analyst a través de la realización de diferentes proyectos de gran interés para las empresas desde el día 1 de curso. Durante la realización de estos proyectos he aprendido codificar en R de manera fluida y me ha permitido conocer el análisis de datos tanto desde una perspectiva técnica como desde una perspectiva de negocio. Además, el aprendizaje obtenido gracias a mis compañeros ha hecho que esta experiencia sea aún más enriquecedora.  Este tipo de formación es ideal para desarrollarse como profesional y como persona.

He realizado el curso de Html, Css y Javascript. Con respecto a ello puedo decir que el curso esta muy bien estructurado para seguir la metodología que te proponen, el "Learn by doing". Dicho método consiste en eso, aprender poniendo en práctica lo que el programa y mentores te proponen. En consiguiente, los resultados obtenidos dependerán en gran parte del estudiante y el empeño dedicado a sacar adelante el trabajo. Como recomendación para Ubiqum les recomendaría incentivar la disciplina, por lo demás, muy bien. Buen ambiente, excelentes mentores y un equipo profesional dedicado 100% a ti. 

Not worth the money. 
The place where the course is held is ok and nice and you have acces  whenever you need. Other than that I have no positive things to say.  
The actual course content  is full of problems and broken links and feels like it's not up to date to the current trends in the sector.  Second although the mentors are very nice people it feels like they are not prepared to teach and have a hard time explaining the content especially if you ask questions that are about adjacent subjects or more in depth questions.  Also the time they spend with you is VERY limited no actual classes and you have to do everything on your own which at times is very frustrating. 
The better part was the career program which helpe  with the curriculum and such and was actually very helpful.  The downside is that they don't have connection with companies to actually place you. 
Over all I don't recommend this course. Very expensive for what it is.

The only honest thing I can say about this place that it shouldn't exist. It's a complete scam, for 7000 euro. No real teachers, the're students there lol. The confluence doesn't work, full of mistakes. The mentor watched video games all day behind his computer,  doesn't care about anything. You are left unattended, they just take your money for you to sit in a room there and to watch Pol being lazy lol. Course is not done in 3 months, you have to stay longer, they cheat on how they advertise. And they lie about a lot, it's quite unrealistic. I hope it gets shut down.

Later, they came out with an 1:1 copy of a content from https://de.khanacademy.org/ and  a tutor who is very poor in language. She had no qualification in education, maybe a professinal but not someone who can educated others. 

At all between read a book and practice and them is just one diffrence the price. A book cost you 50-100 dollars but Ubiqum  milliers dollar. 

I would highly recommend Ubiqum to anyone looking to further their tech education. 
It's also great for those who don't come from a technical background, but keep in mind that you'll need to overcome frustration when things don't come easily.
You'll gain experience thanks to the methodology "learning by doing", with great mentors and a class full of other students with the same problems and questions.
The first projects help to understand the core concepts of programming, and then the course becomes more challenging. Great investment!

At the begining, the methodology of learning by doing was a bit dificult for me, so new and so many new concepts, but you can see the results since the first moment:the "learn by doing" method makes you feel like you are in a role play game in a real business, offering real solutions to real problems.Every day you learn something new, and even is it dificult, the mentors helps you and aims you to follow working on it.

To switch careers is always challenging, at Ubiqum code academy you are immerse in a challenging ambience (in the good sense of the sentence). From day one they present you your "new job", the "learn by doing" method makes you feel like you are in a role play game in a real business, offering real solutions to real problems. Depends on you how seriously you decide to take the challenge, but don't worry and don't be too hard on you. Mentors will always be there to help. Anyway if you feel the temptation to be too hard on you the program includes coaching sessions where you will learn to forgive yourself in case something went wrong so you can keep having a positive attitude to keep learning with the whole process. The coaching sessions also include techniques to approach fear and be resilient. Mentors will trace the path, but you will organise yourself to follow it, that way they ensure you learn a whole process and way of working. 

My scientific background helped in some things but it's important to have a business point of view, which I learned in the course and started to apply. Prepare presentations to a non-technical audience, how present profit and risk for a business, approach a problem/analysis from the business point of view, business goals, ...

The data analytics course at Ubiqum academy is an immersive 16-week program into the world of data handling. The methodology is intensive, hands-on, and immediately dives you into the world of being able to use/read/manipulate data. The tasks are structured as real-life scenarios, so you gain relevant skills. I was astounded how much I learnt in such a short time. The ethos of their education platform is ‘to learn by doing’. This is certainly the case. By the end of week 3, I was already proficient in using WEKA and presenting findings as a data analyst. With no prior knowledge! Having your fellow students to bounce off, we all became great friends and discussed all things data. The course is very insightful, and opened a window into a world I never knew existed. All the staff at Ubiqum are super friendly, and you can approach them with anything. They will go out of their way to get things sorted and make sure your time at Ubiqum is enjoyable. Everyone at Ubiqum (staff, programmers and data analysts) gets together for food and drinks on Fridays, and there are so many events and activities to join in with. I would highly recommend this course if you are looking to get into data. The job demand is huge, and this course will certainly equip you with the skills you need to be top of the list for those demands.
