Nucamp

It was awesome. It was a good amount of work but you set your own schedule, so you can make it work with a full time job. A lot of people in the bootcamp had one. Also fit for all learning levels. I had coding experience but those who didn't were crushing it. 

The exercises were good and easy to follow along with. It allowed me to have enough code for a portolio. Also, dope they give discounts for women and other groups to attend their bootcamp. Lastly, the instructors were highly knowledgeable and approachable. I would reccomend to a friend. I hope to land a good junior web dev job or internship from this.  Read less

What led me to enroll into nucamp was that i wanted to get a better career for myself. I am completely new to the tech world and i did alot of research on which online bootcamp would fit my life style since i am an esthetician so my schedule can be busy at times. When i finally bfound Nucamp it was the perfect fit for me. Being able to go at my own pace with my schedule worked out perfect for me. What i aspire to achieve after this bootcamp is to be able to get a mainland remote job where im able to work from home more. Since the tech industry is completely new to me and it is a bit of a challenge. I can wait to finish this boot camp and see what the future holds. I highly recommend this bootcamp for people who work alot and need a boot camp that fit around there scheule. Read less

Nucamp was a great learning experience for me. I went in nervous about React and ended up loving it! The instructors are amazing to work with and go the extra step to help understand. NuCamp is great! Having a dedicated instructor far surpasses learning on your own. The information is thourough, and I feel that I have learned more with NuCamp in a small amount of time, than I could of on my own. Highly recommended. I chose Nucamp because of the cost and the ability to do the class on-demand.  I work full time throughout the week and am a new father to a 9 month old...therefore, my available time each day is never in a set window.

I really enjoy the format and instructors from Nucamp and would highly recommend checking them out if you are interested in getting into software development. Read less

So far, my Nucamp experience had been great although I had only completed the web fundamentals bootcamp so far. The video lectures that helped us gain more knowledge were great, everything was explained clearly in terms of what we had to learn. Our instructor professor Gagnon was an excellent teacher, he would devise his own code examples to illustrate how the code we had learned from that week actually work during the Saturday lectures. He also provided us lot of great helpful additional resources beyond what the course covers. Also, it was easy to reach out to him for help if we were stumped with any portion of our code.  Regarding the coding exercises, some of them were a bit difficult since we may not fully understand parts of the code also there were some incorporated codes that we weren't too familiar with since we hadn't learned them yet. So far, we just followed alone step by step. Nevertheless, it is good to have these coding exercises given to us for extra future practice after completion of this web fundamentals bootcamp.  Read less

Just finished The Web Development Fundamentals - HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, for beginners. I have taken these in various forms from Pluralsight, Udemy, etc. The course contains just the right amount to get the basic understanding in manageable chunks. Provides additional resources if you want to dig deeper. The live video class provides a great overview of the week's work to help cement the learning and ask any questions. Accountability is a great motivator. Highly recommend. Onto the NuCamp Back End Dev Ops for me. Read less

Nucamp is really inexpensive compared to all the other bootcamps I looked into and because I have literally no prior experience in coding the HTML and CSS portions were really detailed and helpful but for the JavaScript portion I fell behind really quickly and became overwhelmed because they didn't go into great detail about all the new words and skills they were addressing. I felt totally discouraged by a lot of the Javascript videos. The instructor (Roger), however was incredible helpful and patient and made the money worth it. He spent extra time with each student and though he couldn't help me with everything (because there were several struggling students), he was really great! Overall, I think Nucamp needs to provide the following for future students:

• Glossary for each chapter 
• Options for purchasing a text book 
  • A coding for Kids or dummies guide
  • A text book that will be provided to students a few weeks before the course starts so that they may review it a bit
• A form with the office hours for each instructor
  • List of other instructors to reach out to if your instructor is not available
• Exercises and resources to look at in between courses 
  • In between the beginner course and the front end courses there is a 3-week gap, which is plenty of time to forget everything you learned

Nucamp was definitely the right choice. From what I can tell, it has all the features that the more pricey camps have, but at a reasonable, and I would add, more attainable price.  You learn current material and a very relevant stack.  I am very glad I did it.  I definitely want to attempt to enter the field of programming after I am done.  This is a great way to make a career change.  Nucamp provides a variety of choices and the cost to enroll is not bad at all. After completing a course with Nucamp, I can say 100% yes I have made the right decision. After the bootcamp I wish to pursue a new career and start working in the tech field somewhere.   Read less

It requires a lot of self-study following the Bootcamp directions.

I recommend following the course and at the same time continue studying the basic concepts of HTML, CSS and Javascript. the more familiar you are with the basics, the easier it will be to complete the exercises. Read less

I just finished my first part of backend web development with python. It's was very interesting. They covered a lot of concepts with bunch of examples.Instructor was great. After doing some research on html, CSS and javaScript on google, I found Nucamp to be the best program to meet my needs.  I will continue to practice the materials I learned in class for a couple of months then go on to a full stack class.  I would like to have the time to truly understand the materials presented before taking the full stack class.
After completing the bootcamps, I intend to find work as a freelance full stack developer. Read less

So far, I have completed the Web Development Fundamentals course by Nucamp, which covers basic HTML, CSS, and then an introduction to JavaScript. It's just 4 weeks and spends roughly the first 2 weeks on HTML/CSS and the second 2 weeks on JavaScript. I plan on continuing to take their series of courses for the full software engineering bootcamp path experience (Dev Fundamentals, Back-end, Full-stack, and a Job Hunting course). I felt that it was a great structure for an intro development bootcamp/course, with videos, exercises, challenges, Slack engagement, and an instructor you can contact during the week and who teaches the class over Zoom for 4 hours every Saturday during the course. It allows great schedule flexibility especially if you're working during the week. I felt a good combination of flexibility, while still having structure and having actual live instruction. It is actually around the same price to do the full bootcamp (4 courses in a row I listed, about $5400 if you pay as you go for all of them together) as it is to do a similar full-stack web development course I had previously considered - that does not have live instruction. The live instruction is invaluable to me so I went with Nucamp and so far I'm glad I did! My instructor for Fundamentals, Madeline Ward, was great. She made the material interesting and engaged with students on a human level. While you could absolutely teach yourself these topics with free materials on the Internet, that goes for any bootcamp or paid course in web development, but you should seriously consider Nucamp if you need a less-expensive-than-most bootcamp with guided instruction for accountability.  Read less

Nucamp Review:

When I was researching bootcamps, I narrowed down my search by focusing on the three items that were most important to me:

1. Cost: was it affordable for me without going into a huge amount of debt

2. Curriculum: were the technologies being offered conducive to my career goals; were they up-to-date and would they make me more marketable in the end

3. Community Reviews: what are other people saying about the bootcamp, curriculum, instructors, their overall experience and expected outcome

Once I decided on what was most important to me, I narrowed my selection down to three bootcamps.  I then referred back to my list of the three important questions above, compared my findings and made my decision.

I decided to enroll into the Complete Software Engineering Bootcamp Path offered by Nucamp.  The first of four segments is Web Development Fundamentals: HTML, CSS JavaScript.

Pros:  The Nucamp staff is extremely helpful, professional and timely in their responses.  There are several different scholarships offered and the process to apply is rather simplistic.  The weekly lessons are clear and concise, and are led by a professional in the industry.

Cons: There is minimal instructor interaction during the week.  Students must be ready and willing to work independently and rely heavily on supplemental resources, all of which are provided within each of the lesson tutorials.

Overall:
The tuition costs are extremely competitive, especially in relation to the amount of content contained and offered within the curriculum.  The Nucamp community seem to really enjoy their experience, are content with the new skills they have learned, and are happy with the outcome they achieved.

While all bootcamps are going to have some negatives reviews, this particular bootcamp seems to be viewed in a positive light by the majority.  I agree with the majority and look forward to the next segment of my bootcamp path.

Note: I am marked the job assistance as "not applicable".  This is simply because I haven't reached that point in my program.  However, there is a four-week segment at the end end of the program that is designed specifically to this topic.  Once I complete this final segment, I will update my review accordingly. Nucamp has been a great introduction back into the world of coding after 10 years. I took some coding classes in college many moons ago, and have not coded in about 10 years. So I started with Web Development Fundamentals to get back into it. I think that was the right choice, and I think that Nucamp was the right choice for me. The structure of the program works well with my busy work/life schedule, and makes it very manageable with the expected time dedication and the course content. The instructor for my course was very helpful and knowledgeable, and the weekly content was broken up into very digestible chunks throughout the week. I hope to continue my success in this program as I continue into the Back End program and then onward to the Full Stack, and hope to be among the many to land a Software Engineering position after completion. 

I highly recommend Nucamp for anyone that has a full schedule like myself. Or anyone for that matter, since I feel that anyone can do this and succeed with how they structure their program. Very well done Nucamp. Read less
