Georgia Tech Boot Camps

I attended the Full-Stack Flex part-time program as a way of accelerating my change of career for a number of reasons. My sister was a big part of why I selected this program in particular.  Her incredibly positive journey through the program left me confident that I’d learn the skills I needed to take on a career in development. What I learned through my own experiences far surpassed even those expectations. The educational staff of instructors, TAs, career services, and our Student Success Manager made sure we had the resources needed to be successful both during and after the class completion.  As if that weren’t enough, the collaboration and friendships I developed with my classmates have lived on even after the class completion. If you’re ready to learn and want to take ownership of your future in development, this class is a great step in that direction.

During these past six months of classes, I learned the fundamentals of data analytics and acquired in depth technical skills needed to succeed in the field of data science. The team does a really good job covering a wide variety of topics and also creating a great environment for networking. The homework is, at times, overwhelming. However, the sense of accomplishment after after completing each one of them is fulfilling.

Excellent experience overall!! I would highly recommend this course to a motivated candidate.      

I was a violinist before I attended GT's Boot Camp. After determining that I wanted a career change, I needed a skill set that would make me more competitive in the job market. GT's Boot Camp gave me just that! 
I did not have ANY direct background in analytics. Although that meant that the learning curve was quite steep for me, it didn't stop me from getting what I needed. 

It is important to understand before taking this course that nothing will be handed to you. 
The program gives you: instructors, TA's, project experience, extra-curricular information (such as links to meetups in the area), online talks, career coaches, classmates and more. But it is only as good as you make it. You will be the one to hold yourself accountable. 
I did not find a job through the program. However, I wouldn't have gotten my new job if it were not for this program. The skills that I learned are directly applicable. 
Also, when negotiating my starting salary for my new job, I was able to submit my negotiating statement to a career coach. She happily looked over it and was a tremendous help! 
Take advantage of all the tools that they give you! Talk with the people in the program. Get advice from everyone about how they got to where they were. You are given opportunities to practice job interviews. Use them.

I would recommend the course to anyone wanting more skills for their current job or someone in my position. Good luck to those wanting to join!

This course is really helpful for new beginners and also for people with beginner level coding experience. The course was very helpful, everything was well explained by our teacher CJ and Hannah. They are very helpful and nice and has good knowledge about how to explain coding in a really easy and understandable way. The TAs would check up on the students at least once or twice a week and they respond really quickly when a help is needed. The course's projects and activities are really well planned. The activites go step by step and is hard but very achieving.

Excellent experience, my instructors were the best and the academic support too. Also, I had a really good tutor and they are always willing to help. I recommend the Part-Time because there is a lot to take in, and unless you have previous experience the Full-Time seems like a lot for only 3 months. 

This course is very well orgnized is also demanding.   Instructors and TAs are well qualified to help students.   In the classroom, we had two instructors and 4 to 6 TAs in the room.   We also had 30min pre-class and 30-min after-class hour so I don't recall there was any time I could not get help during the class.   

The course gets more difficult as it goes to the end of the course.  If you don't have enough JavaScript expeirence, I recommend practicing JavaScript (both ES5 and ES6) before the class begins.    

You would want to make sure that you are ahead of the course schedule (this will make you feel more comfortable and ready for each classes).   Full 3 months or 6 months scheudle is released on day 1 of scheool day.   You should know what exactly you will learn for whole semester so it is pretty easy to find out what you need to be prepared for each classes.  

You may also want to do a lot of coding practice with JavaScript whenever you have time.   If you have time, you would want to do small projects other than give homeworks if you can.  TAs will help you any extra work you are doing.   If you just follow the exact course schedule and finish only give homework,the final four weeks of the course for React.js may become big challenge.  

It was great learing expeirence for me.   I enjoyed, struggled, and learned.   Highly recommend this cousre, but you must make sure you are commited for it, seriously.     

I wish I would have skipped getting a Bachelors degree and just done this course first. Could have saved soooo much time and money. I graduated recently, and I'm already getting amazing job offers.  Of course, you get out of it what you're willing to put in. If you work hard and do everything the instructors and career advisers recommend, you are going to come out of this class ready to get hired as a Web Developer. 

I came to Georgia Tech with very little background in CS. I found myself struggling through MOOC programs online and finally decided to take a chance, hoping that in-person instruction might offer deeper foundations and greater motivation. Our cohort began in August 2018, and now, facing the last day of the course looking back, I cannot believe how much we've achieved as a class. 

The classroom was made up of CS and biomedical graduates, designers retooling their skills, IT staff, employer-sponsored tech workers, and an array of people like myself who were revisioning their career, keen to become employer-competitive again. I made some amazing friends, who are people I never would have met without this experience, people who impress and surprise me with their curiosity and striking innovation.

My instructional team was truly exceptional in every way. CJ and Hannah are incredibly competent technical workers who stress best practices in group workflow environments and promote highly organized, modular code. CJ's interview prep periods before class were full of smart tricks and clues to help us understand the technical coding interview process and present ourselves in the most authentic, personable and honest way. Hannah is a master at pacing the classroom lecture environment by anticipating confusing material and troubleshooting common errors to make sure we don't fall behind when iterative material stops making sense or we mistakenly drop a step. I always felt we were being supported, seen, and listened to when we were struggling with concepts. If we were falling behind and failing to understand the material, Tatiana would run breakout sessions and remediation to help us stay on track. On top of this, CJ, Hannah, and Tatiana created a playful side project in which classmates formed teams and completed career oriented coding challenges to earn points for their team. Quarterly, we celebrated the victories in the form of the Harry Potter House Cup, complete with thematic prizes and coding workshops (programming bots, hacking/cyber security tutorials, and interactive trivia games to learn our tools/languages). We developed more robust portfolios through the games, pull requests, and blog posts we earned for our teams, motivating everyone to do more and giving us a really great way to bond with our classmates. Towards the end of our course, we even took a dive into CS fundamentals (data structures and algorithmns-specifically hashmaps, binary trees, Big O notation), which was so helpful in foundational learning. 

The course material was difficult for a true beginner, I can't deny that. In the beginning, we completed projects week by week, attempting to learn pure Javascript via jQuery, CSS and HTML. Every project slowed to a crawl and took many hours. This is when I was most vulnerable to quitting. Be prepared to spend copious amounts of time to see small changes and then break them over and over. You will spend a lot of time learning how to find your own answers, perfecting the art of the search, and forgetting what you taught yourself. These circular paths become familiar and eventually you can welcome the struggle of breakage, ultimately learning the nuances and behaviors of object-oriented languages. I learned to know/trust myself better through learning to code, learning how I would have approached a problem and evolving to grow beyond that approach. If you are really dedicated to learning a new skill and changing the way you think, I would wholeheartedly recommend this course. It is a big step, but one worth taking. 

This course has the potential to be the best investment you will ever make. It also has the potential to be a waste of money. It is certainly a scenario where you get out of it what you put into it. If you are thinking you will merely go to class and be a developer at the end then you are very mistaken. If you spend the hours outside of class to review what was covered and make sure to not fall behind, then the benefits are unmatched. My instructor, Jacob Lamont, was extremely impressive and gave my cohort everything we needed to be successful. It was up to us to apply what he had taught us and master it on our own. I spent 60+ hours a week reviewing each new topic and it was absoutely exhausting - but well worth it. Since graduation, I've had the opportunity to sit with a number of developers with years of experience and computer science degrees to go along with it. When they realize I learned everything I know from a 3 month program, it's honestly kind of comical to see some of their reactions. I've been extended a promotion in the role I was in previously and have had some opportunitys to freelance and grow my portfolio that pay handsomely. It's an experience I will never regret and the benefits are overwhelming. Just be prepared to work. 

I had worked in a career for 10 years that had nothing to do with coding and had no tech experience before entering the program. My instructor was Jacob Lamont and I had the best mentor/tutor Esterling Accime. I felt that these two teachers were what made my experience amazing and the main reason I gave it 5 stars overall. They are extremely helpful and will go above and beyond in making sure you will fully understand every aspect of the program and give you not only technical support but advice on how to approach the course if you are struggling. This program is really what you make of it. The more effort you put in the more you will get out of it (stereotypical but true) If you dont plan on putting in all your effort to making sure you understand each topic you are wasting your money. Jacob and Esterling will meet you as far as you want to go step by step. 

The Job Assistance I felt like could have been a lot better. It was basic support( review resume, mock behavoral interviews, etc). I was very lucky in that I found a job within 2 weeks of the program, but I know a lot of students in my class had a hard time finding jobs and are still looking for jobs in the field. I felt like it would have been helpful if we had more people in the field of web development involved in the career support. All of the people on the Job Assistance team were not tech people. I took it upon myself to go to meet ups and talk with people in the field about their experience getting there and what helps students like me find jobs coming from a bootcamp and no tech experience and found that helpful. A lot of the finding a job is really reliant on you (as to some extent it should be) and not necessarly the job assistance support. Having a better understanding of what type of role you will typically play in different types of companies such as large vs small or start-ups would have also been helpful. How and where to apply to jobs is also a thing I felt was missing from the Job Assistance. I went to all the career meetings they held and I felt they gave false hope to a lot of the students giving a very high expectation for a lot of us in the course (salary expectations specifically). I also felt they could have given the options of mock tech interviews. Again the Job assistance employees of triology were really nice and I felt they did their best they could but they were never in the tech field and did not give the reality of the how it is to find your first gig out of the bootcamp. I felt that I learned more about this career when I asked my instructor and tutors about their experience in the tech world.    

First and foremost, have to praise our teaching team. Jacob, Cody, and Connor were some of the most ridiculously helpful teachers I've ever had in my life, and I've had plenty. Jacod especially, as the lead instructor, knew basically everything and went above and beyond every day to explain and answer questions. I would highly recommend this program just because of them.

A word of caution though: the job assistance is way oversold. The way they tell it, the program connects you to employers actively looking to hire. Instead, it's the same, "Well, if you get an interview, here are some suggestions that may or may not help" generic advice everyone seems to have. Even the student showcase, a hugely touted event, had such a small showing of employers, I'm not even sure any appeared at all.

Furthermore, all the job search stuff it was poorly integrated into the class. The office kept pressuring you to 'make a profile' (which, by the way, is a project you work on outside your normal homework and projects). However, it's so eary on in the course, it's outdated before you even finish. I redid mine several times and never ended up using any of the designs.

TL;DR: the classroom was great. I learned so freaking much in a short amount of time. But when it comes to the job search, don't be fooled. You're definitely on your own.

Attending Georgia Tech's Coding Boot Camp was the best decision I could have made for my career!  I learned a TON of material, but even more valuable, I learned how to think like a developer.  This is a true boot camp, not for the unmotivated.  Prospective students should practive typing; get familiar with your terminal (command line); research jobs in web development and get a feel for the technologies being used in modern web development.  The boot camp is project driven, and you are responsible for the project concept.  If you don't already, brainstorm ideas of websites/apps that you would like to see.  You will make them come to life here!

First, I would like to start by saying that this program is not taught by GT professors. It's outsourced to this company called Trilogy. From the beginning, it felt like the program was hurriedly pulled together and the curriculum was an afterthought. The course materials are outdated and filled with errors. I found myself having to constantly look for additional learning materials to fill the many gaps in the curriculum. I would seriously recommend that you research and look at other Data Science and Analytics boot camps. Atlanta has several companies that have money back guarantees and high student job placement rates. Honestly, this boot camp is not work the time or money that I invested. 

Great program! Didn't know ANY code when I started. The other reviews are right that nothing is spoon fed, and the strong majority of the material will have to be learned on your own time. It was a very challenging course, and I couldn't have balanced a teaching career this year alongside it. It was that time-consuming. I am graduating tomorrow, and I have two coding-related interviews lined up for this week. I am hoping that these will be stepping stones to even greater careers (I've seen it happen with other graduates from the program!). This program is what you make of it, and you get out what you put in since most of it is self-learning. But it was the great Isaac Asimov that said, "Self-education is, I believe, the only kind of education there is."

I decided to enroll in Georgia Tech's Coding Boot Camp to further my career.  I currently work for a software company that provides document management to governmental services.  I work closely with developers testing our software and website that is utilized by our clients.  

What I like about the program:

You don't need a prior background in development, though it would help, and you will actually learn how to become a full stack web developer.  Even if you are only interested in certain aspects of the program, you will be forced to learn a little bit of everything.  In the end, this will only benefit you.  The instructor and TAs I had were awesome.  They were always there to answer questions or to just shoot the breeze.  You can really tell they love what they are doing.  There is nothing worse than when your instructor isn't personable or acts like they don't want to be there.  From my experience, there was a true passion there, and it will make you want to succeed.  There are also tutors available to you whenever you need them.  So, there shouldn't be an excuse as to why you didn't learn the material.

You will also have access to everything you have done in class.  This includes exercises and videos of classes.  This comes in really handy when you're trying to remember certain aspects of what you learned.  The educational repository they provide is wonderful.

I personally did not utilize the job assistance they provide to you along the way.  I'm looking to move up within my current company, so this is one aspect of the program I can't really speak on.  I can only tell you that from what I've been told by my peers.  They help you build your online portfolio and get you ready for interviews.  

What I don't like about the program:

It wouldn't be a proper review unless there are cons listed.  My one main issue with the class is that you only learn a little bit of everything.  While that's a plus, it's also a detrement.  Once you feel like you're grabbing a hold of what you're doing, you switch gears rapidly and move on to another topic.  While I fully understand why the course is set up this way,  it could be a draw back as much as a selling point.  There is just so much to learn, there is no way to fit it into 6 months.

This is for the future students:

I don't intend to scare you away from the program, but there is A LOT of work.  That's if you actually want to learn.  Be prepared to put in 20-40 hours per week, outside of the 10 hours of class time per week, if you want to succeed.  And I don't mean succeed as in get an A in the course.  I mean succeed as in to actually learn.  There is so much information on each topic that you will have to digest and figure out how to implement it.  This course is not for the faint of heart.  If you're anything like me, and I hope you're not, you will put in 30-40 hours per week outside of class time.  I'm sure the normal student puts in 15-20, but I've found that this is not nearly enough to be successful.  This is also coming from a person that has little prior knowledge of the information being taught.  

With all of that being said, if you're married, your wife/husband may hate you for the next 6 months.  You'll spend more time with variables and functions than with them.  In the end though, I personally feel that it was worth it.  You'll meet great people, learn something you never thought you could, and you'll have fun doing it.  Well, you'll have fun most of the time ; ).  

I shopped around for a while before I decided on the Georgia Tech. It seems to be, and was the most comprehensive course for my timeline. I did the Flex program as it worked best for me and allowed me to digest lessons between classes

The course was very challenging and informative for me as a first time developer.  Curriculum structure covered all the skills categories of Full Stack Development some more than others, the basics were there. The lectures were very informative, and much of the work was done outside of class.

The Career Support and Virtual Assistance via webinar were very resourceful also.  As my primary objective was not employment, but overall marketability, I have not found employment as developer. However, the mock interview sessions, resume review, periodic one-one career counseling even after graduation have been very beneficial to my overall marketability.

This course does a great job of teaching one how to become a modern Web Developer.

I came into the class with a minor in Computer Science, and looking to make a change into Web Development. The curriculum starts off with an introduction to the basics of computing and then moves quickly through the fundamentals of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.  Given that I had a decent background in programming fundamentals, I was a little worried that I'd be bored in the early stages, but the pacing and design of the course allows for students of all backgrounds to succeed.  For those a little more advanced, you not only have the opportunity but are actively encouraged to push beyond what is strictly covered in class and really get into the depths of what it is to learn JavaScript. This becomes especially true as the class goes on, with the sheer amount of frameworks and libraries that are taught.  It's impossible for a course to go into the full potential of everything that is covered, especially of something like React, and discovering the nuances of what is possible was the most rewarding aspect for me personally.

I can't speak to the career services aspect of the course, as I was already employed and did not engage in them, but I do know of several people from my cohort who are working as developers using knowledge learned in this course.

This boot camp proved to be one of the most challenging and rewarding things I have ever been apart of. The attention and support I received from both Trilogy and GT was bar none. I left the program with a thorough understanding of some of the hottest technologies and the building blocks to launch a career in the field of development. I whole-heartedly recommend this boot camp

The experience was amazing from day one to the very last day.  The success leader, the instructor, the TAs, the venue, were all excellent.  The curriculum is agressive as expected, but very well paced and wonderfully presented.  I was enjoying every moment of every day I was in class.  I miss the rigour now that I have completed it, but am able to continue the rythm of looking up resources and continuing the learning, thanks to this boot-camp.  I can't recommend it enough to anyone who is interested in the latest Full-Stack software development.
