From the initial application challenge, to the weekly deliverables, to the final capstone - there was quite a hands-on doing that really helped make the material stick and left feeling very confident in my ability to execute. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable about all the diverse aspects of data science as well as how data science operates inside a larger commercial enterprise.
To top it off, there is an excellent job search support program that provides quite a bit of structure and guidance post-graduation. Great program.Overall5.0Curriculum5.0Job support5.0Instructors5.0 -

My first impression was the learning advisor that reached out to me and explained about the program and also payment plan. It took me less than a week to decide that I wanted to take the course. I started off with Web Development and it was a blast for me because I never code before but I always liked working with computers so I had so much fun learning it! Instructors at Brainstation are very helpful throughout the courses, they answers questions throughout the week when you're not in class learning. I've taken two courses already and I have two more to go which is Data Analytics and Data Science Bootcamp and I'm 100% sure that I will keep on having great learning experience with Brainstation!Overall5.0Curriculum5.0Job supportN/AInstructors5.0 -

While I have performed user interviews and usability tests before as part of my previous program, this course provided a more detailed understanding for me. I wanted to get exposure to a broader data analytics toolset so that I could work more effectively with the data analysts on my team. In 10 weeks, we tore through Excel, SQL and Tableau. At times it was overwhelming, but it all came together in the end. I can't say that I'm an expert by any stretch, but I have a much better understanding of how large datasets get analyzed and visualized. And I'm able to more productively engage with our operations teams to drive better business analysis.Overall4.0Curriculum4.0Job supportN/AInstructors4.0 -

The course leader was working in the industry at a high level and had many current insights into the industry which I found important as digital marketing is still very much in flux with new social media platforms, new laws and regulations from across the globe regarding cookies and privacy - which are very important when it comes to targeted marketing (which is most, if not all digital marketing).
As someone that had as much experience and knowledge of digital marketing as the average consumer, I found the curriculum easy enough to grasp, although it was a lot of information at points. Particularly the beginning where the most previously unknown jargon would be thrown at you. But in time I optimised my learning by writing notes on what the instructor was saying that wasn't on the presentation slide and then going back after the lesson and revising my notes, filling in the gaps with what was on the slides.
After the first 4-5 lessons (of 10) it felt a bit less intense with information - in part because we moved onto specific social media and their characteristics (user base, purpose, etc.), some of which I knew to an extent, and partly because the fundamentals of digital marketing had been learnt. We then had time at the end of sessions to talk one on one about our final projects and get advice, something I should have capitalised on more.Overall5.0Curriculum4.0Job supportN/AInstructors5.0 -

Firstly, the 10-week program was packed with information and useful resources but was also concise. Secondly, the instructors were really helpful and guided me well throughout the course, even when the questions were related to the job market and portfolio and not just the UX course. I am a graduate of Interaction Design but I got to learn more about UX best practices from this 10-week course than from my 8-month long course!

Brainstation has curated an impactful UX/UI course experience. I came in with an understanding of Human Centered Design but no prior experience with UX or UI and feel like I have a solid foundational understanding of the field as a graduate. This was possible through intentional course design - content builds on itself in a comprehensive way throughout the 10 weeks of the course. What I loved most is the UX/UI project we curate along the way and get to present to our classmates at the end. Why did I love this? The project is a way to test the concepts we learn during each week's class (3 hours once a week), it was extremely meaningful to see the concepts learned in class come to life in the final projects. Our instructor, Elizabeth, was fabulous. She is someone with a great deal of industry experience who I could tell genuinely loved helping us learn and see our potential. I loved getting to understand how concepts in the course played out in the real world, as she would often share examples of her work. This course has helped me learn I do want to continue pursuing a UX career transition and will start looking into bootcamp options as next steps.
I do have two areas of improvement that I would like to offer Brainstation. 1 - Given the final project involves designing in Figma, I would love to see a developed resource (accessible through synapse) on how beginners can jumpstart the learning process. I did a lot of research on my own, Figma has amazing resources and Elizabeth was very helpful, with that said having a resource guide accessible to me as a learner would have been wonderful! 2 - I had to miss one course due to an important doctors appointment, I would have loved to be able to see a recording of the course I missed or attend another instructors course.
Really lovely experience overall, I think you will be pleased with a decision to enroll if you are interested in diving more into the UX/UI world!Overall5.0Curriculum4.0Job supportN/AInstructors5.0 -

I could write basic for loops and make simple functions that printed things to the console. I also coded along with a few udemy courses, so I was vaguely familiar with some React syntax, but I couldn't replicate any of the code or apply it to my own projects. I was completely unaware of security issues or best practices.
The curriculum is set up so every week feels like another hill to climb. Weekly projects are very challenging and the pace is fast. Instructors and TAs were all amazing for the entire 12 weeks, but in the end your success in the bootcamp depends on what you can put into it. For me this meant many late nights and weekend work. It also meant asking alot of questions. BrainStation also has networking events with industry panels, so those are good to go to aswell.
Even with the large amount of content that's covered in the course, there are still many technologies that may be relavant to job searches but aren't explicitly covered in course material. This could mean things like GatsbyJS, Redux, MongoDB, NextJS, Prisma, TailwindCSS, SocketIO, etc. As you go through the program, many new technologies start coming onto your radar through what you see on job descriptions or just talking with classmates or amongst your network. Every rabbit hole you go down leads to ten other rabbit holes. The idea of the bootcamp is not to learn everything, it's to provide you with the base knowledge that you need to pick up on new technologies quickly on your own. I feel like the last 12 weeks have prepared me well for thatOverall5.0Curriculum5.0Job support5.0Instructors5.0 -

I did a lot of research to select it, and having now graduated, I feel it was well worth it. It was a ton of work, it was hard, but it was impactful and a very fun experience. It was definitely one of the most intense 12 weeks I've ever endured, truly a full time commitment. The educators are fantastic, and extremely talented designers with complimentary skillsets. I feel I have a very solid foundation to go forward and continue to develop the skills taught in the program towards being an employed designer. The field moves quickly, and I felt the material was current and industry relevant. I think the impression I was given was that I would have all the skills required to be ready to apply for jobs immediately after finishing the program, but I'm not sure thats true, and I don't think thats a bad thing. Take the course, get a great education - It is (in my opinion) the most efficient path to being able to call yourself a designer, but know that there is more work that you should expect to do before being ready to apply for positions.Overall5.0Curriculum5.0Job support5.0Instructors5.0
