Skillcrush

There are many things to love about Skillcrush. They seem to seek the advancement of women in the tech industry. They are lighthearted and open and eager to sign people up for their blueprints. However, if you are a complete newbie and need close mentorship, you're not going to find it here. When you download challenges into the system there is no feedback as to whether you completed the task correctly. It kind of goes out in limbo. Even though there is a Google Group community that corresponds to your Blueprint, it is not the same as having a mentor. I tried two courses with Skillcrush and did not receive the support I needed. On the second one I did not recieve the access to materials you're promised. I am very saddened because I had very high hopes of getting the training promised by Skillcrush. 

I found Skillcrush after messing around on free sites like Codeschool and Codeacademy. While they were both good programs and a nice starting point I didn't find their set-up enjoyable. Skillcrush is just more personable and the way they break down lessons is helpful. It's a lot of information they impart on you especially given the 3-month timeline, but they separate it into manageable bits-so no information overload! 

I chose to start my Skillcrush journey with the Visual Design Blueprint because it was along the lines of training I've already done, and I love designing so win-win. I loved having a google group to resource like a normal class and Feedback is great to learn to grow. I also loved that they continue supporting you after your finished and you have several pieces to produce for a portfolio. Because they can't possibly fit in everything you need to learn in just 3-months they make sure to break it down to what you need to know and give you resources to grow further in your career. 

The one thing I would like to see (I don't know if it would actually be feasible) would be to have events held. Like mini-hackathons for Skillcrush students once in a while or a designing event students-both past and present-can opt in to where teams of even say 2 or 3 design a brand, website, etc. They could have a variety of challenges, or set-up a collaborative environment where students in the design courses submit their design to have developers code it. It wouldn't have to be as part of the required lessons, but could be something extra they do. It would be good practice and it would help increase your skillset with collaborating with a team remotely. Again, it's just a thought.

I have been learning at Skillcrush for several years now. I just finished my WordPress blueprint and am still hammering away at the Ruby course. I love Skillcrush! The instructors are super friendly and fast with follow up to questions. Sometimes the lesson challenges are more complex than the lesson instructions and I can see where a little more depth and detail could be helpful, but I really feel like I have built my skill set immeasurably. 

I came across an ad for skillcrush on Facbook and a few other places.  I had been trying to teach myself to learn to code through free sites but it was very slow going and dry, and there was really no one to help me when I had questions.  

Coding seemed like a good way to make some money on the side and transition out of a career that I wasn't crazy about.  

I liked the tone of what I read on the ads and the brochure for how to earn $1000 while learning to code so I signed up.  I really enjoy the lessons and like how they are broken up into very manageable bites so that it is easier to remember.  Adda is positive and slightly goofy at times keeps the material from being boring.  The resources and additional help they provide are amazing as well.  The customer service has been incredible whenever I've had questions.  

About two weeks after I started the course, I got laid off.  After only a week someone at a large firm has already told me that I could freelance for them as soon as I am ready.  I never expected for my skills to be THAT in demand!  I am learning as fast as I can and enjoying myself.  I look forward to a rewarding career in tech and have already recommended this class to several friends.

Since joining Skillcrush I've enjoyed a renewed sense of enthusiasm for learning. There are multiple ways to get support from talented and highly-skilled staff, countless resources and opportunities to refine my skills each week, and unique and constructive forums to offer support, and receive valuable support from the other students in the blueprints. I am only a few weeks into the curriculum and already feel WAY more confident in my future as a valuable and successful web developer/web designer. Skillcrush was originally conceived as an interactive learning community for women and I believe Skillcrush has seen men gravitating to their blueprints because of the great value and highly effective approach to delivering valuable skills to jump-start their own careers. I feel welcome as a man among a strong team of talented women and gain tremendous support from the other Skillcrushers within the course. This was one of the smartest decisions I've made. Thank you!

The course I apploed to is the full Wordpress Bootcamp, which includes the Front End Developer Blueprint, the Wordpress Developer Blueprint, and the Visual Design Blueprint. So far I am only at the end of my second week into the course, and I am loving every single minute of it!

The lessons are designed so that they are easy to complete in less than an hour a day (yet some offer extra resources and links to blog entries that you can look at freely should you have more time on your hands). The instructor explains everything in a way that is specific to that lesson - no more, no less - so that the student can understand everything they need to complete that day's lesson, yet not feel overwhelmed with extra info that they don't need to know just yet.

I also appreciate the hidden humor in most of the lesson videos and documents - who doesn't appreciate an extra little laugh a day - such as the silly sentences used to illustrate examples of formatting, etc. I often find myself giggling to myself when watching the videos which takes alot of pressure off and makes the overall lesson that much more enjoyable. :)

In the past couple of weeks, this course has become the hilight of my day, and I find myself waking up excited and looking forward to the new lesson (and some days, when I have more time and just want a little more, I may also preview ahead and check the next day's lesson, too!)

I will add one thing: this program seems geared towards beginners and newbies (like me!) so I find myself learning something new every day! But it may not be for you if you already have some previous knowledge and experience in coding. I find it is the perfect pace for me to learn, and considering all that you can learn from the comfort of your own home, I find it well worth its value, and definitely more worth it for me than spending thousands on a college course with less flexibility and a whole bunch of other distractions and unnecessary classes (who really needs PE and algebra if that's not your focus of study?)

Final word? DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!! (And THANK YOU Skillcrush!)

I'm just starting the second week of the Front End Developer Blueprint and am really enjoying myself. I love the way they approach the lessons with short informatonal videos and some pages of revision before they ask you to implement the lesson. So far I've learned a lot and am excited for the rest of the program. The only con I have is that there are no corrections to the code they ask you to write in the lessons. Therefore, most of the time I think i've done the lesson correctly, but can never be certain.

I'm currently in the Front end developer course and I'm enjoying it. This is the first time I paid for any course and I'm happy I did, it's accommodating and affordable . I tried to learn on my own at one time and it was difficult .This course is well thought out and is in great sequence.I also like how if you have any questions there is always someone online to answer them for you.

I would reccommend Skillcrush to anyone and everyone.

Hi I'm Vineeth. My web development blueprint was highly informative. I was able to know how much i have to learn which was the most difficult task for me before i joined this blueprint. The video tutorial and the solution given and hints for questions really helped to check my answers and from avoiding in getting stuck. I will highly recommend this course to my friends who are new in the field of web development.

If you are thinking about a career in tech but the word "code" or HTML seems foreign and frightnening, please check out Skillcrush. The awesome intructors at Skillscrush will help you see beyond the barriers and learn a skill or trade craft. I am currently in the Front end developement blueprint. I have learned so much! Adda, Alia and all the the fine ladies at Skillcrush are seriously encouraging! I have tried to learn code for several years on my own -banging my head against the wall-but I feel like I didn't have the confidence to know that, yes, some html was that simple and I was doing it right - YESSS! I also have had several HTML mysteries explained very simply and get to practice the skills in a way that I will be using every day as a developer.  

Skillcrush is extremely useful and affordable. I wish the education system would get on board and follow the Skillcrush style. Learning front end development in a college classroom is far more difficult and  there is a bunch of other junk piled in that you really do not need to be able to code. (SCARY MATH-you don't need it! YAY!) If you can use a computer keyboard, you can learn to code. Learning at Skillcrush makes it an encouraging, affordable experience. Bring on the new career and all it has to offer!

Let me start by saying, it took me months to finally decide to take the Skillcrush Wordpress Bootcamp program, I wanted to make sure I was getting my moneys worth. I did TONS of research and read countless reviews. I did not want to pay for another program that did not give me any substanstail material and left me with more questions than answers. I intended to take this program as a refresher and I am so ECSTATIC that I did! The material covered is fully comphresive and broken down into smaller bits to grasp easily. I have to say that before I had gaps in my learning from previous online self-paced resources and Skillcrush has been able to provide me with a wealth of programming knowlegde and give me more confidence building web apps. I appriciate the courses materials "cheatsheets" , videos and minor quizzes. I like the fact that if I need help, I have access to tutors. I am very very pleased and would definitely recommend this bootcamp to someone who is just beginning. The material is laid out in a way that It is easily digestable and not too overwhelming. Price pefectly and well worth it!

I am super impressed with the class design. Each day has a couple of topics broken down into bite sized chunks. First we watch a video that gives us an overview, then we read about it, we see examples of it, then we practice doing it ourself. It seems like just the right amount of practice too. I think too much practice would feel like busy work and make adult learners resentful. I think it is just the right amount and with the tools and cheatsheets we have been given, we have the ability to piece together the things we don't quite remember. So far, I am really pleased with this class. I am looking forward to figuring out how I will be able to use this new knowledge and skills to make a career change. 

Skillscrush lesson makes learning tech a piece of cake. It's the way they deliver the lesson. I am only my 2nd week in the blueprint, and I already feel that once I am done with the blue print, I will be ready to go out there and start my career in tech. 

I strongly recommend SkillCrush to anyone who wants to start a tech career. 

Although I have been developing Wordpress sites for several years, I was so pleased that I started the Skillcrush Wordpress Developer Blueprint right at the beginning.

It is extremely thorough and teaches all the HTML5 and CSS best practices.

The curriculum is very well designed to suite individual needs and time availability. You can go at your own pace, fast or slow, steady or bursts and the Google Group provides support for everyone.

Ultimately, the series of courses is designed to give you the skills and experience to work as a freelance WP Developer.

The month-by-month career plan has been carefully thought through to cover all the steps needed to prepare you for a career as a freelancer.

Most importantly, it is slowly but surely giving me the confidence to be able to call myself a developer.

The daily breakdown in the curriculum is great.  It helps me feel accomplished when I can complete a day and commit changes! It also logically builds upon skills from day to day.  I have not had much need or opportunity to participate in the Google Hangouts/Zoom face to face office hours; however, the instructors are really good at responding to questions in the class's Google Group.  When I hit a roadblock, I never have to wait very long to get guidance on how to fix things. 

I had been looking a Skillcrush for a while and after attending a day-long virtual conference that they held, I decided to take the plunge with the Wordpress Developer Blueprint.  No regrets!  I was already slightly familiar with WP but sort of fumbled through it, I feel like I'm actually learning it as a developer and learning coding skills instead of just plugging things into fields through the WP admin. 

I haven't had much opportuntity to explore job assistance yet unless this means the resume building webinar, so I can't give it 5 stars yet.
 

I love how easy the classes are to follow. I went in skeptic thinking that it would bore me to death like other online courses out there but I WAS SO WRONG! Now I'm loving every second of it learning. It's the first time I'm taking a course and actually enjoying learning. the courses are so engaging that I'm speeding through the course. 

**I'm giving 3 stars for instructor rating just because I haven't talked to any of them but they replied so fast when I asked a question before going into the program which is a ++

I'm really happy that I chose to go with Skillcrush. I was totally frustrated by my current freelance writing career and wanted a course that would give me basic design skills and provide learning support throughout.

I chose freelance because they provided so much value and cheerfulness up front, through webinars, e-books and emails. It sounded like a guided learning experience from people who cared about their community, which is so much more helpful than courses where you're left on your own.

The classes taught me the basics of Adobe design tools and my instructors gave really helpful feedback. It was fun, and the course materials gave me a clear sense of how to do each project. I even got my first job involving these skills before the end of the class, so I have a lot more confidence going forward.

*My one recommendation would be to just *talk about* responsive wireframing -- I have no idea whether for apps or games we'll have to start on different-sized canvases, and my first job involves wireframing and everyone's so insistent on responsiveness in job posts. 

I have completed Skillcrush's Front End Developer and Visual Designer blueprints. They were both awesome! I really like how Skillcrush holds your hand (virtually) through all kinds of tools and concepts. They shrink down complicated procedures and have students do small chunks at a time so you don't feel overwhelmed. I didn't have to spend much time Googling answers to questions because they were already there! (Of course, you can always ask an instructor too). 

Now I have a job as a Jr. Developer that I feel extremely lucky to have AND I'm about to dip my toes in freelance design work. I'm super excited to go back through some of the tutorials, especially JavaScript, and review some lessons so I can add more skills to my resume :)

I wish I had some constructive critisicm.. All I can say is please make more curriculum! I think I saw a Ruby on Rails blueprint way back when? Let's bring that back. 

As someone with an engineering technical background, as business owner and a practicing artist, I had very little previous experience with the meta-world of applied web design. The course was a great introduction and overview of the work flow, design processes, terminology, software tools and design resources needed to begin either professional-level work as a junior web designer or as an overview to support other Information Design objectives. Highly recommended.
