Nucamp

My Nucamp experience was a positive one. I knew about Nucamp for a while but was hesitant to enroll but after taking their Fundamentals Course I feel this is what I want to do.
The flexibility of the course made it easy for me, their workshops were really fun because you get to meet your fellow students and with the Instructor there also to help when we had questions. Oh and cant forget about the affordability of it all, if anyone is thinking about signing up do it!

The Nucamp staff are liars and theives. If you use the loan options, they will purposefully overcharge you, hoping that you aren't paying attention to the loan disbursement amount. But I was paying attention. I registered for the Complete Software Engineering boot camp on April 28, 2022, well before the early bird deadline. Course price was $4268. They charged $4868. When I asked about this, they claimed I didn't qualify for the early bird discount because I used the loan options. This is written nowhere in the website or enrollment agreement. No disclosure. I complained to the owner, and he said I was overcharged because the price increased in June. June? I enrolled in APRIL!  I called him and his staff out on their lies and thievery, so they cancelled my enrollment. Either they did this because I'm black, or they do it to everyone. Either way, these people lack character and integrity. I'd advise everyone to stay away. Read less

I just completed the Web Dev (html, css, javascript) course. It was awesome. The course had a good combination of modules online with videos and sample exercises, and then the live sessions were super valuable. If you are looking to get into programming this is an excellent place to start. The instructor was fantastic! Read less

As a retiring teacher, I was looking for a new direction to take during my retirement. Nucamp is set up in such a way that I could continue my last couple of years in education while learning the skills I need to become a developer. I was able to teach during the day and complete my Nucamp learning in the evenings and attend the Saturday workshops. Nucamp was affordable and flexible. I just finished the four week foundations bootcamp and feel that I have a strong beginning to a new career.  Read less

I enrolled in the Nucamp Web Dev Fundamentals boot camp to get more structure in learning coding.  I wanted feedback for the work I was doing, not just hoping for the best as with self-taught learning.  The boot camp is a significant time commitment, minimum 10 hours per week and most of the time it was more than that.  As someone who works 50+ hours per week, I had to make sure I made some kind of progress every day.  Nucamp appealed to me because it was a part-time commitment.  I could keep my job while learning new skills for a career change.  Nucamp's structure is great because it allows you to learn at your own pace during the week and get together with other people going through the same material and problems as you are.  The instructor, Kevin Gay, was great at helping people with understanding the concepts to make them more real.  I look forward to the next boot camp, probably the Full Stack boot camp.  Read less

I came to Nucamp to update my skillset.  Though I worked as a programmer for several years and have a computer science degree, I hadn't coded in almost 20 years having taken time away from technology for almost 20 years.

Nucamp has been great.  They hit all the main points I remember from many of the core classes necessary for a bs cs.  They go pretty fast and I think it matches the work environment for a new hire developer but you have to stay on top of things.  It's not easy but it gives you the knowledge you need in a significantly shortened timeframe compared to non-bootcamp alternatives.

The cost of this bootcamp is what initially caught my eye.  It's reasonable.  These people are doing this for the right reasons.  I've stayed-the-course though because of the quality of the program.  If you can complete the work, you can do the job.  They don't skimp on teaching you the stuff that matters.  

The instructors are knowledgable and come from backgrounds which give you confidence they know what they're talking about.  I rarely hear a question asked they can't immediately answer - no matter how estoteric.

Thus, I'm very happy with my decision to attend Nucamp. Read less

I'm self taught and have used python for a long time to solve specific business problems on demand in support and QA.  This course presents the fundamentals in sequence with practical workshops and it was fun to see other people's portfolio ideas, I'm sure I'll refer back to these resources and reuse the code I wrote for personal projects and at work. I joined Nucamp to build on and expand my knowledge with understanding programming languages. Since joining, I've furthered my front end skills as well as developed back end. It's been great because now I can create my own web applications and run them on cloud servers.  Read less

I enrolled in Nucamp because of the affordability and the ability to fit it into my work schedule. During the course I had a bit of difficulty adjusting to the format. What I mean is that I am sort of a loaner at figuring things out, and this course or the industry is not designed that way. It is encouraged to lean on classmates, former students and instructor after 20 minutes of struggling. This format took me a solid 3 weeks to finally implement. Even so, I went far beyond 20 minutes 😩. My instructor was extremely knowledgeable and patient. He spent time explaining concepts to me outside of workshop, and was responsive to messages. I feel like going forward, I will definitely spend more time asking questions of both peers and instructor. Overall, I'd recommend, but be ready to put in time and ask questions. Read less

I was studying in the traditional college for years trying to get an associate or bachelor but with 70+ hrs/week, I couldn't make it and gave up schooling for about 2 years. However, I know I am desperately to change my career to whatever field as long as it is related to Computer. I had heard from some of my clients about bootcamps so I did some research on what bootcamp was a fit for me. There were some bootcamp options in my list but the cost was too high. Randomly, I saw Nucamp on some social media platforms I am using which caught my attention because the cost is fit my budget. I started researching about Nucamp and mostly were positive reviews. I though that if I felt Nucamp, at least I would not be in any debt as comparing to the other bootcamp which at least start from 11+ grands. I started Nucamp with the Web Development Fundamentals, I though "Oh, this is easy". Then I continued with Backend, SQL, and DevOps with Python, Python and SQL I did fine but I failed the last subject of the course which is Modern Software Engineering with DevOps. I had no idea nor knowledge about backend, also with no frontend experience and too much to learn within 4 weeks, thinking back, it obvious I would be failed. I was about to really give up but I told myself why not give it one more try. I signed up for the Full Stack Web + Mobile Development. Thinks started to make more sense for me. So far I get the fundamental of how to create a website and make it more attractive and interact with client, I think with more practice and doing more projects will improve my frontend skill. Once I am more confident with the front-end, I would go back and re-learn the Modern Software Engineering with DevOps because the materials are lifetime available in my Nucamp account. My bottom line review about Nucamp and tips for new students who about to enroll is NUCAMP IS DEFINITELY WORTHED TO TRY. Keep in mind that Nucamp will give you the tools (React, react Native, Python, Node.js, Django, PostgreSQL, Azure, etc..) which are top used in the current market and a briefly instruction of how to use it, the rest is on you, self-learning, practice, and explore. It would be overwhelming with too much materials to cover in a short amount of time, and more than a few time you will be arranged with first-time instructor who has no experience in teaching. On the other hand, there are staffs (Mr. Todd Sparrow, Mr. Paul Turner, Ms. Kirsten Markley, and some other amazing staffs) who are very knowledge and willing to help and "listen" to your panic and gently guide you back to your way. If you ever failed a course you can go back to learn it because you own the material and don't forget to join Nucamp community on Slack. Goodluck to me and everyone who is in or about to join Nucamp.  So far, my experience with NuCamp has been great!  In the short amount of time, I have learned plenty, and I am excited to start using my newly acquired skills and perfecting this new craft. A 4 week Intro to Web Development that will get your toes wet!
As a beginner who tried to learn completely on my own, I realized I needed more structure to move along and meet my personal goals. After researching various courses I found Nucamp.  I've just recently completed the Fundamentals of Web Development and I am very happy with my results.  I do plan to continue to a bootcamp and the confidence to continue the Fullstack path came from the Nucamp course.  If you're just starting on this path and find yourself getting distracted or going slower than you'd like, Nucamp can help you get on track.  I definitely recommend Nucamp.   Read less

I enrolled in Nucamp because I hated my job in healtcare.  I semi-knowledgeable about computers & feel like I can figure out new programs, but did not have a lot of coding knowledge.  I have learned a lot at Nucamp and feel good about my decision to sign up for the "Complete Software Engenieering" path.  

The instructors have been knowlegeable and helpful.  It's challenging but rewarding.  I mostly like that they teach you how to learn new things.  No one can memorize every possible application of code, so it is important to learn how to learn.  

The fact that you have access to the courses after you have completed them is a huge benefit that I didnt even realize I would get.  Going back to review so that I can truly understand why I am doing something is paramount to my success in my opinion... 
Not to mention that Nucamp was MUCH cheaper than other courses I looked at!  

The extra money I saved has allowed me to spend more time learning at home instead of having to work full time just to pay for a course + living expenses.  

I highly recommend Nucamp.  Be prepared to learn and have time to practice on your own.  It's also important to stick with it even if you get frustrated.  Remember to learn how to find the answers you dont know without asking for help every time.  I still have courses to go, but to someone who is looking to do this and wanting to know if you can learn what you need to learn at Nucamp in order to get a job, I believe that you absolutely can.   All of the camps will teach you the same stuff... so in my opinion, making sure that you are practicing on your own and constantly learning is key to being successful.  Nucamp has been great, and really looking forward to continuing classes with them. Great intro in Web Development. Instructor was dope, as well as the class setup was great to work together to try and figure out solutions. Your success greatly depends on how much you put into it. Self guided videos during the week with a Saturday lecture and a workshop to put what you learned into action. I appreciated the challenge and it worked well for me. Excited to try Dev Ops! I'm happy with Nucamp so far, they provide you with a lot of information and they give you a lot of guided practice. You also get to learn at your own pace, on your own schedule through the week, as long as you finish and are ready for the meeting on Saturdays, which is wonderful. Read less

Considering transitioning into a web dev career from teaching. I liked that Nucamp was cheaper than some of the other bootcamps online. Slack channel is a plus, videos were pretty good. Assignments were a little "hand-holdy", I probably would have learned more if I had to figure out how to implement the programs myself rather than being told step by step what to do.  Read less

I came to Nucamp because I knew I needed structure. Yes, there are A LOT of free resources online, but Nucamp curates additional links with each chapter. So on top of learning with my instructor, they are also providing me with free resources that I don't have to go on a scavenger hunt for. For me, it is the most convenient and time-efficient way to learn.  Read less
