A decision that requires a FULL COMMITMENT to get the maximum out of it!

Had a great time at NEXT Academy, 9 weeks that seemed to be as short as one month! Definitely a decision that requires a FULL COMMITMENT to get the maximum out of it ! Don't be fooled by the advertised schedule and be ready to work everyday until 10.00pm to redo/review what you did/learned during the day! (I did not and I regret it).

Mentors are always available and willing to help so raise your hand after (really) trying to figure out by yourself for 20 minut...

    Pleasant experience

Generally the experience at NEXT was pleasant. The only concern I have is that the some of the resources provided for the coursework seems a little outdated and some even unrelated, which required a lot more googling.

    Mentors are awesome and attentive

Cons: Refer to https://www.coursereport.com/schools/next-academy. There are some truth in the complains.

Conclusion: If student work hard, they will find their stay at NextAcademy is a very rewarding one.

    Thanks Khong!

Really happy to hear that you enjoyed yourself. You and your team did an amazing job coming up with the Cast app that's on itunes now.

I do hope you guys will bring your ideas forward!

And so sorry about the renovation noise from the neighbors. They are definitely violating the rules set by the property management. Even the property management is having problems with them. Thanks for bearing it with us. :)

should refrain from saying "no basic knowledge of the subject is required"

1- The requirement and objective of this boot camp is not according to what the academy has advertised.

Obviously this boot camp is not suitable for those who has no basic knowledge of web design at all. Most of us has to struggle through or copy through our assessment or challenge. (most of the challege you could get it from online and it's FREE !

There's nothing we can do to help if you refuse to come to class and talk about your struggles.

We've read this review before because you submitted the exact same feedback some time during the bootcamp. I have reached out to you personally (since you want to remain anonymous here, I'll respect that) on slack and you mentioned you won't be coming to class.

Now, if you want to succeed in life, we are very keen on helping you. But if you refuse to come to class and refuse to speak to us to fix the situation then there is nothing we can do to help you. As much as we are committed to helping you, I'd much rather give you a refund and have you leave if you prefer not to cooperate and come to class.

Still, we're sorry that your expectations weren't aligned with our course. We are reading this review as a team and deciding if there is something we can do from having any students feel the way you felt.

This bootcamp is meant for beginners but not meant for everyone

80% of our students are beginners. This article https://vulcanpost.com/591265/apps-platforms-coding-bootcamp-malaysia/ contains 99% of your peers who entered our bootcamp the very same day as you and they graduated well.

This bootcamp is meant for people who are looking for a challenge. It is very difficult.

Almost every bootcamp in the world would filter out applicants who don't show the aptitude and attitude to succeed.

Our biggest mistake is not filtering out people with the wrong expectations and perhaps don't have the right attitude to succeed through our bootcamp. (disclaimer, just cause anyone doesn't succeed through a bootcamp, doesn't mean they are a failure in life).

Answer: Moving forward, we are no longer admitting everyone anymore.

The studying environment was not friendly at all?

Your point about slow learners getting less attention in a small group is strange. If we put slow learners in a big group, these slow learners will get dramatically less attention. It is because we recognize that slow learners gets neglected in big groups that is why we broke you guys into small groups. I'm also curious how it's possible for you to not get attention when your group size is just 10 students with 1 mentor. Perhaps you weren't speaking up or asking questions or coming to class? I want to help you but come talk to me and don't just be a keyboard warrior.

Inconsistent learning style from different mentor?

Yeah, for sure. There's bound to be differences between every human being. Our mentors aren't robots.

However, we have guidelines for them to follow.

Our first guideline is that we want you to be a good developer. And we recognize that to make you good, we need to challenge your thought process, your independence to find answers and not just show you the answer.

As educators, as teachers, we care about you and that is why we give you tough love and sometimes we get hate for that

We are very proud of our graduate who are able to understand our point of view and finally leave the program being extremely capable and independent.

    The Point of A Bootcamp

    1. Curriculum - Our curriculum and challenges are aligned with other bootcamps in the world. We consciously decided not to reinvent the wheel when it comes to curriculum. Just like how schools and universities don't decide to write their own textbooks. There are experts out there doing it. We take it and adapt it. Also, Codecademy is your prep work not your bootcamp curriculum. Why were you still doing Codecademy during the bootcamp? If you want free stuff, feel free to use it. That's not the reason why you come to a bootcamp.
    2. Mentorship - This is the whole point of a bootcamp. Our mentors have collectively worked and built companies worth USD100+ million. They know what it really takes to succeed as a developer so learn from them not complain about them.

Didn't expect to learn so much in 9 weeks

I wanted to jump on the tech bandwagon. I was sick and tired of my job at a bank. I tried some coding after work hours but was always frustrated at my progress. It was difficult juggling work and study.

I made a big decision 5 months back to join the April intake. I loved it. It definitely felt great to progress every single week. It was tough and I did struggle a lot. I spoke to my mentors a lot about the struggles and they were extremely helpful in making sure I learnt.

Best decision you will ever make !

They have one of best mentors that are willing to help and guide you but not spoonfeed you. I personally think that it is the best way to learn. It was intense nevertheless but I can assure you if you put a lot more effort in it, you will excel with guidance from the mentor in the bootcamp. Ask questions and PRACTICE frequently, the mentors there are more than willing to help and guide you along the 9 weeks.

    Love It

Awesome bootcamp! The fundementals and curriculum were great, but the greatest part of the bootcamp were the mentors. They are relentless when it comes to helping. I remember one time I had a really bad bug that sprung in my app and it hit a gap in their knowledge. The mentors helped me in debugging the code till it was dinner time. Even when I wanted to go home they were still hard at work trying to solving it. Coders are sore losers by nature I guess.
