Coding Temple

I was hesitant registering for a software engineering boot camp with the recent mass tech layoffs. I convinced myself I could still do tech for non-tech companies and that additional education never hurt anyone! To say this course was humbling would be an understatement. It is an extraordinary amount of information in an exceptionally short amount of time. I can't tell you how many times I was ready to bail, and likely would have, had it not been for my instructors - which I will circle back to. The course work is rigorous. You get what you put into it. Expect to have hours upon hours of homework. Expect to rewatch lectures. Be prepared to be resourceful in supplementing your learning - everyone learns differently - the material that is presented is concise but if you are completely new to the field concise still has its draw backs. You are going to be reading a lot outside of what is assigned but if you dedicate yourself to the process it will serve you well. I am graduating the program feeling infinitely more confident in my skills which was ultimately one of my goals. Do know I everything, absolutely not, but I do have practical coding experience and a plethora of tools and resources to continue to improve my craft. My instructors, Brandt and Brendan, pushed me, challenged me, but were patient with me. They each went above and beyond the scope of their jobs numerously to ensure I succeeded in the program. I had countless one on ones,  after hour and weekend assistance, and was always encouraged by reviews of my performance. My assignments were returned quickly with great critiques and often times praises. There are a ton of boot camps out there - I do not have anything to compare this to, but I couldn't be happier than with how the last 12 weeks have played out. I enrolled in a boot camp program with the expectation of acquiring proficient coding skills and transitioning into a new career. The contract stated that the program would provide job placement assistance, but unfortunately, six months after graduation, I have yet to receive any meaningful support. Despite submitting over 300 job applications, I have not received any assistance beyond being advised to apply to more positions. Additionally, the staff responsible for job placement have all resigned, and to my knowledge, there has been no effort to replace them.

Regrettably, I must caution others against enrolling in this program if they are seeking a genuine career transition. I am currently $17,000 in debt and believe that the curriculum offered in the program can be easily accessed online for free. Read less

Coding Temple has set a good foundation when it comes to learning and implementing HTML & CSS, Python, SQL, Flask, JavaScript, and React. Christian Askew and Dylan Katina, you better hope you get those instructors. Honestly they're all you could ask for when it comes to getting good instructors. I can't tell you how many times I've struggled and felt like quitting throughout the cohort and they've help me bounce back up multiple times. They're understanding no doubt about it and they always help you at whatever pace you're going. I just wish I had instructors like these at my university.  Read less

I recently finished up the Coding Temple Part-Time online 12-week Bootcamp and had an absolutely fantastic experience with it. Right off the bat, major credit has to go to my instructor, Christian, for his stellar job of communicating clearly and plainly for a coding newbie like myself. From day one there was a very fun tone set for our class that took most of the traditional dry/boring-ness of traditional education completely out of the equation. Don't let that fool you however, it was a very intense 12 weeks and requires a great deal of dedication, time, discipline, and research on your own time to truly get the most out of this course. It's very much a "you get out what you put in" scenario so if you're taking the plunge I highly suggest going in 100% and not half-assing it. The structure of the course is well thought out and makes logical sense as you built a strong foundation of coding knowledge early on in the classroom and through daily challenges, homework, and projects. If there were ever any students that weren't sure of how something worked or if there was ever any confusion on a topic, Christian was to-notch at figuring out a different approach to explaining it to us to make sure that we all stayed together on the learning journey and that no one was left behind. Overall I will say it was the right choice for me to go with Coding Temple for several personal reasons. Scheduling, timeline, availability of instructors/tutors, budget, and reputation were all very important in my decision to choose this bootcamp over the numerous other ones I looked into. This bootcamp opened my eyes to how coding works and taught me how to code. I’m from the sales industry so it helped me get a job as a sales engineer. I have an appreciation for coding now which has made me a better salesperson. My goal was to become a software engineer but I make more money now as a sales engineer than I would as a new software engineer. So I’m very happy. All jobs in the tech industry make great money apparently. For whatever reason you’re taking this course, do it.  Read less

I recommend this bootcamp to anyone trying to switch career paths! I thought the courses were really informative and this bootcamp (as I understand it) has a lot more out of class support than comparable programs. The teacher I had (Sam Davitt) was extremely knowledgable and helpful in explaining difficult concepts! Our TAs were also former grads and therefore always knew how to help us push through the harder parts of the program. Finally, I think the thing Coding Temple does the best is their accessibility to support and alumni continued learning! The career coach Marlene Tang is absolutely incredible and a huge asset to this bootcamps success. She's extremely helpful, organized, and goal oriented which helps once you've graduated and are unsure of your abilities. Overall I think if this is the best bootcamp program out there. Read less

Everything about this program is absolutely amazing. In regards to learning the course material and finding a place of employment. The people involved with Coding Temple truly care about its students and continue to help them thrive in the industry they choose to follow. I originally took the course to be a software engineer, but later I found that I really enjoyed working with data. Therefore, even with the credentials relating to software engineering, I was able to achieve my dream of becoming a data analyst! With out their help, I really would not have been able to complete the high intinsity program. But you certainly have to want this profession. The course is not easy but once you achieve it at graduation, the possibilities are endless for where you will end up! Read less

Ryan and Alex were crazy good instructors for this course. They kept our class environment very relaxed and enjoyable while teaching us some very fast paced and tough stuff. The curriculum, however,  is not chill. You will have to work your butt off just to keep up so don't take any of the 10 weeks lightly. There will be long nights and weekends spent studying, maybe some crying, and definitely asking yourself at least once, "why did I do this?" But then when you graduate, granted you've done everything required to graduate, (and you TOTALLY can) you'll absolutely be able to answer that question and feel extremely accomplished by what you've just done. I highly recommend this course if you want to push yourself to learn something new, change careers, or improve on whatever coding skills you already have and come out the other side prepared to tackle the job search in software development. And if you get Ryan and Alex as instructors then just know you've hit the jackpot! Read less

Coding Temple is a fantastic, immersive, and very personal experience!  The student-to-instructor ratio is amazing at about 6-to-1.  Each day was filled with many hours of learning new technologies and actual coding experience with challenging homework each night and full-fledged weekend projects too.  The instructors were truly committed and have wonderful technical and people skills.  Also, Coding Temple graduates become part of the active alumni community and the training and job seeking assistance continues for life---all included in the original course fee!  I highly recommend Coding Temple to anyone who is interested in pursuing a bootcamp training experience. Coding temple is a fast paced bootcamp. The instructors are very knowledgeable. All of the classes are recorded and it’s nice to be able to go back and rewatch them multiple times. For the past 12 years, I have worked in the Oil and Gas industry. During the pandemic, I took some classes in software development and fell in love with this industry. It was at this moment I decided to take a bootcamp. After extensive research, I decided to attend Coding Temple. It was one of the few bootcamps that offered the option to have instruction from an instructor and worked best with my schedule. This was the best decision I have ever made. I learned so much during the three months at Coding Temple. I can now build full stack applications!! How amazing is that!! With the skillset I acquired at Coding Temple, I was able to land a job as a Software Engineer. I could not have landed it without the amazing instructors at Coding Temple. I learned so much from my instructor, Kevin Beier, who taught me all the skills I needed to make my dream come true. Also, had a great TA, Shoha Tsuchida, who was there to help and answer all of my questions. Also, while you are in the program they offer so much support, especially if you are struggling or need someone to talk it out with. Thanks to Blair Talley!! She helped me and answered all of my questions during my time at the program. She was so helpful! Another great thing about this bootcamp is that after you graduate, you have a career coach for life!! Marlene Tang is the best! She is outstanding at her job. She will not only help you with your resume, but with your LinkedIn profile as well. After she reviewed mine, I was getting 2-5 interviews a week. This truly made a difference!! She also preps you in learning the job interview process (what you should and should not do). Her advice is what helped me land the job!! Thank you Marlene!! After you graduate, you have full access to mock interviews and continuing education lead by Nate Welter and Sam Davitt. They are great at their jobs and will continue to enhance your skillset. I attended Coding Temple after getting a bachelors in a computer science program at a university and I'm very glad that I did.  We covered more ground with hands-on practical programming and theory than we did in my bachelors degree.  College really lacked in experience creating real projects and coding with frameworks.  Coding Temple filled in all the gaps I had from college and gave me a real portfolio to showcase to employers.  While interviewing for jobs, 90% of what was discussed what what I did in the bootcamp, what I made, what I used, and how I did it.  I did not get this in college.  The instructors were fantastic and there is an immense and overwhelming amount of support from them and the other faculty.  The career services offered after graduation are amazing and far exceed what was provided by my university.  Every from resumes to LinkedIn to networking was covered in great detail.  After graduation, there are several weekly workshops covering job searching, data structures and algorithms practice, and trainings in new technologies.  Coding Temple provided more practical knowledge and education than I got through any other avenue.  The only thing that rivals this is working as an intern at a startup.  If you are wondering, like I was, about whether or not this would be worth the money, stop wondering.  It is worth every penny and without this experience, I wouldn't have landed a job making just under 6 figures as a starting salary just weeks after graduating.  Make no mistake, it is very, very, very difficult, stressful, and will consume every moment of you time.  But, the juice is well worth the squeeze so get off the fence and just do it already. This coding bootcamp is awesome. I learned so much throughout, it's an intensive but rewarding bootcamp. It was great learning how to apply the skills I've learned. I really loved the projects we had to complete, as I could use my creativity to add my own flair to them. The 1-1 help was also really great and the instructors were amazing! From the start of the bootcamp to the "end" you were never alone in your new journey. Once enrolled, I was given pre-work that must be completed before the start of your cohort. I was also added to the Coding Temple community through Slack, with many channels. It was reassuring to know I could simply reach out and get assistance from either the instructors, TAs, students, etc. The course work is very fast-paced and we had homework every night. Being dedicated and giving it my all helped me complete all my coursework. My instructor was very kind to answer any and all questions. It is very tough to code-along with the instructor so when I felt I couldn't keep up, I would just watch, listen, and take notes. This helped the information sink in better. The instructor also provided lots of helpful documentation and helpful resources. I saved every link which I was able to refer back to for homework and my final project. There are also student activities to get involved in like: Codewars workshops, algo nights, random trivia recess, etc. Coding Temple also provided night instructors that are available to help with homework and projects after lecture hours. The best part about Coding Temple is the alumni resources, which include career and tech advisors for life! Which is exactly why a put quotes around "end" at the beginning of my review because you are always apart of the Coding Temple community even after you graduate! What an experience! The class pace is fast but manageable, and the course info is geared to make you learn how to think like a programmer so you can take your skill sets across different languages.  My instructors Kevin and Dylan, made sure to make them available at all times.  Could not be more happy with choosing coding temple. I was in the 6 month self-paced program at Coding Temple from April to September 2022. It was a hard road to say the least. A working parent who has most of the responsibility of keeping the house in order because of my wife's schedule put a strain on the 6 months I couldn't have imagined. My instructors were Brandon Apol, Christian Askew and Schardre Dent during the 6 month program. They were always willing to help, but were also able to deflect back to me when it was imperative that I figure it out on my own. I originally was displease because I thought there could be more subject matter taught, especially the stuff that causes the most problems and that isn't the coding part. Looking back now, I realized that its always part of the process to figure things out on your own and the better you are at that, the more valuable you will be in the field. Also, figuring things out on your own gives you a confidence that surpasses any test you could pass and I mean that with certainty. Not only that but you will learn things and have the tools to be successful and you won't even realize it until you do start figuring things out on your own, which is what you will have to do in the field to be successful. I appreciate the effort of my instructors and there help when I needed it the most. I would recommend Coding Temple for anyone desiring to become a computer programmer or anything in the tech field for that matter because of its broad background of subjects covered. I would add however, that being a non-traditional student, this learning environment was very challenging. I believe therein lies the issues of my struggles early on.... teaching myself a lot of things was not what I was used to doing in traditional college/university. I am graduating from Coding Temple in one week, and I have to say it has been an amazing experience since Day 1. The staff have been so welcoming and comforting throughout my journey. I have to give an extra amazing review for my teacher, Lucas. He is SO knowledgeable about the tech world, any question you throw at him, he either knows how to fix your problem instantly or works through your problem with you. I had a great experience at Coding Temple. I completed a full-time 10 week immersive course and it was tough. Lot of cancelled plans and late nights working. But if you feel ready, I would highly recommend this bootcamp! I don't think there's ever a "perfect" time to make a decision like this. You just have to take risks sometimes and trust yourself.

If I could go back, I would have prepared more. They suggest 2 weeks to complete all of the prework assignments and I only had like 6 days. I didn't finish it all, and HTML/CSS is the last of prework, but you start it on Day 1 of class.

I wish that Ripal (admissions) had suggested I was enrolled in the cohort after. However, he was super nice during the admission process and granted me a $500 scholarship which was unexpected and very appreciated. The reason I bring this up is because I asked Nicole (student advisor) if I could re-enroll into the next cohort coming up. I just felt so behind and lost in HTML/CSS by day 3. She gave me the support I needed and pushed me to hang in there until the next week which was Python. If I still felt lost, we could arrange re-enrolling and waiving the re-enrollment fee. That said a lot to me about Coding Temple. That they are going to work with you if you ask for help!

Class over zoom was great. I had to figure out how to learn again. You don't need to type along during class because it's all recorded and your night is going to be re-watching the day's lecture over and over. I took notes to make sure Python concepts stuck in my head. And found youtubers who explained things in different ways. Derek and Lucas were fantastic instructors, I definitely miss seeing them every day. It was a serious challenge getting everything turned in, doing codewars, attending guest speakers, scheduling after-hours help, and just living your life. But once it's over you are exposed to pretty much everything you need to know for web development. I have assignments that I will definitely come back to tweak and work on.

After graduating, you get alumni support via slack forever. Marlene (career coach) and Nate (alumni tech instructor) are fantastic. They so work hard to help you succeed. There are tech workshops for coding interview challenges and job search support workshops where other alumni share their tips for getting a job offer. I like knowing that I could come back in a year or two to sharpen my skills or revamp my resume. 

I chose this bootcamp because it's one of the shortest timeframes out there and they offer a money back guarantee. It's real - but it's pretty hard to achieve IMO. Just know that while there are horror stories out there about some bootcamps, Coding Temple is legit. It's very expensive, but I feel proud that I did it.
