This March, AI literacy, skills-based hiring, and apprenticeships continued to be top of mind in the coding bootcamp space. Three reports released this month detailed the rising importance of upskilling the current workforce on the use of AI. The federal government issued an executive order on creating more apprenticeship opportunities, and skills-based hiring saw a boost in overall job listings. 2 CODING BOOTCAMP ACQUISITIONS

  • Accenture acquired Udacity for an undisclosed amount in order to build an AI learning platform. 
  • Skillshare acquired the startup Superpeer for an undisclosed amount this March. 
  • Dataquest named Celeste Grupman as its new CEO.

NEW REPORTS ON AI LITERACY UPSKILLING

  • Udemy released a report highlighting the recent surge in demand for AI and IT/cybersecurity certification in the current workforce. 
  • HR Dive highlighted a PeopleScout and Spotted Zebra report that found that 90% of HR leaders believe up to half of their workforce will need to be reskilled in the next five years.
  • Tech Brew highlighted a recent Deloitte study that found that about 45% of the C-suite executives interviewed said their businesses are currently training or reskilling employees on the use of AI. 44% of those executives reported they are currently hiring for AI roles.

APPRENTICESHIPS & SKILLS-BASED HIRING INITIATIVES

  • Indeed’s Hiring Lab released a report finding that 52% of U.S. job postings on Indeed didn’t include any educational requirements as of January 2024. 
  • The Biden administration issued an executive order this month that prioritizes apprenticeships in federal hiring. 
  • LinkedIn data finds that full-time employees who included hard and soft skills in their profiles were promoted 8% faster than those profiles only including hard skills.  
  • TripleTen released the findings from a survey of 1,000 employers on their attitudes towards hiring bootcamp graduates for technical roles. 

DIVERSITY IN TECH INITIATIVES

  • Coding bootcamps are pushing to get more women into tech — Find out how these four women made career changes into tech by enrolling at a coding bootcamp!
  • The San Francisco Examiner reported on the positive effects of The Last Mile coding program for those who are incarcerated at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center.
  • Fast Company highlighted how the nonprofit coding bootcamp, CodePath is partnering with over 100 universities and 70 tech employers to provide technical training, mentorship, and career development.

3 NEW COURSES IN THE BOOTCAMP SPACE

  • General Assembly announced a new, part-time Software Engineering bootcamp. 
  • Wilmington University has partnered with Code Differently to offer up to 18 college credits at WilmU for Code Differently bootcamp graduates. 
  • According to TechCrunch, Spotify is testing hosting new, short courses from partners like Skillshare.
