I wanted to have an affordable and yet effective course on web development which can help me switch my career to the web development domain. And I found Nucamp's coding boot camps are within my budget. Furthermore, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I preferred to stay home and the online delivery mode of this boot camp served the purpose. But unlike any other standard online course, the end-of-week workshops (which were supposed to be conducted at a physical location near to my place but because of this pandemic is happening through zoom meetings) give me a feeling that there is an actual batch that is doing the course together, - we can discuss issues with each other, learn from others' inputs and collaborate on specific tasks.

I already had some experience working with HTML, and related stuff (CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL), so naturally, I chose the advanced boot camp 'Full Stack Web and Mobile Development'. I wanted to get complete knowledge and hands-on experience of both the UI and backend (and database). For those who do not have some sort of introduction to web development, I would suggest either get acquainted with the basics of HTML, CSS, JavaScript on your own, or take the introductory course before moving into this course.

I am happy that I chose this boot camp because now I just finished the first course (on Bootstrap and JS Introduction) and so far I found that the contents have just the right depth. It covers the right amount of details in each topic with the video lectures, associated notes, and suggestions on additional readings (optional), yet I can sail through the courses with about two hours of study every day - suits my daily schedule. The project work (which we chose based on our wish and can do either individually or partnering with a batchmate) at the end of each course offers a full-circle view and the experience of actually working on a full web development task. 

Now, if one asks me if I could learn all these things on my own with completely free resources, my answer would be yes that's a possibility but with low probability. The course lays a structured roadmap and the weekly schedule instills a sense of discipline in me. Think about this, if you do not have google maps, you would still be able to reach a certain destination theoretically, you may also wander here and there, and get confused at certain junctions, but the map tells you which way to go and how far, etc. For me, this boot camp served as my road map. The cherry on top is my instructor in the first course. He is so helpful and I am happy that I got him in my network through this course. I wish my instructors for the upcoming courses would be at least as good as him, if not better.

Regarding jobs at the end of the boot camp, there is no guarantee by Nucamp but it does provide interview prep help and materials for us to prepare for the job market. I researched some other boot camps by other vendors and universities that offered some job guarantee/money back, but I guess in those I had to be open to relocation for the job. But because of family reasons, I cannot relocate in the next couple of years. So that guarantee would have been practically null and void for me.

I chose nucamp after reading a number and good reviews and watching a few videos of people who had gone through the course and found that most of them were able to actually go out and find a job with the skills they learned. I chose to attend Nucamp because of it's remote course offerings. As a disabled student, flexibility is paramount in my decision making process because sometimes your specific medical needs dictate that you change plans with little notice. I started classes during the pandemic quarantine and loved the coursework and pacing of the lessons.

The addition of training students on screenreader accessibility was also fantastic as I know plenty of blind and low-vision folks run into these issues regularly. My teacher was helpful when I needed help understanding concepts and encouraged me to try new things when I had ideas. If you're considering taking a course here, I think you'd be pleased with your decision. Read less

I enjoyed learning code online and making my own schedule during the week. The Saturday workshops were awesome! Our instructor was very knowledgeable, helpful, and encouraging. I honestly couldn't be happier with Nucamp. I am still in disbelief with the quality of education for a tiny fraction of the market cost of other bootcamps. My only advice to others is to ensure that you are networking and building your portfolio along the way and holding yourself accountable. This is perfect for folks who need a little extra push and accountability while understanding that job seeking is still a personal journey. I am thrilled with the quality of education, instructors, the community (and the ability to leverage that community on Slack), and the overall culture of Nucamp. I chose Nucamp because its very cheap compare to other bootcamps in the states and flexible workflow. I am very satisfied with the courses i have finished thus far. The teaching style really worked really well for me, and I was able to stay motivated with the other students via slack. that really helped a lot!  looking forward to React this week. Read less

I chose Nucamp as a great low cost way to learn coding at my own pace. I wanted to get into coding, but had no idea how. Others suggested doing free coding lessons online, but for me if I pay for something I would have to hold myself accountable for what I am learning. Also with free online programs you don't get the live face to face/ webcam interaction with an instructor who can answer your questions and help you navigate what you are learning in real time. I have a hectic schedule so being able to take this coding class online coupled with the 4 hour workshop on the weekends is a big win in my book!   Read less

I just finished up the Web Dev Fundamentals course and this is my review of that curriculum: First, this course is not meant to make you job-ready Web Developer and they even tell you that in their Open House videos on Youtube. This is mainly to get your proverbial feet wet in reading, writing, and applying code, as well as, to see if this is something you actually enjoy doing. I signed up for this course when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, so the workshops were all done through zoom, online. For $349, you'll have access to their gazillion slack channels, knowledgeable instructors, and other people from your community, even people from other communities! One of the main reasons I chose NuCamp: Budget. I don't have the resources or the funds to be able to afford the other bootcamps I was also interested in. Location: I have my own family and I can't simply have them uproot to move to a different state, just so I can attend a bootcamp. Community: Not only would I get the chance to meet other people who were in the same boat, but because we're in the same state, we could potentially meetup at a local spot to code together in person, outside of the classroom. You can learn everything in this curriculum by yourself for free, but it never hurt anybody to have access to a community and staff on hand to make sure you're learning properly. Before finishing this course, I'd already signed up for the full stack because I'm interested in learning more about the front-end as well as the back-end. I have just completed my first class with Nucamp. The class was a bootstrap class. I liked the way the class is set up to work on tasks yourself during the week and then having the live class on Saturday mornings. I work full-time so even though more live class time would be awesome, it just wouldn't work for me. So the way Nucamp is set up works very well. It was nice to break up into groups in the live class and work on a few tasks together as a team. Everyone wants to help each other, which is the way it should be. I can't wait to start the next class and get started learning React. The price of Nucamp compared to other Bootcamps is what made my decision to join Nucamp very easy.  From the time I decided to jump in and do this -- having no programming experience whatsoever - I thought what a great challenge.  NuCamp and its great people including my fellow students made it happen.  I have never been so motivated by a learning program that was extremely challenging but amazingly rewarding at every step.  I have signed up for the full stack developer program as a result. Nucamp is an affordable option to other coding schools or classes offered at more traditional institutions.
The Fundamentals course is laid out well and the learning modules are easy to follow.
They offer a built in community to help with the process of learning and it's well structured.
It's a great choice for anyone as long as their motivated to learn.   Read less

I chose Nucamp because of the affordable price and the flexible learning environment. After the four week fundamentals class I'm glad that I did! The material is provided in a format that allows students to go at their own pace and get in as much extra practice as they need. While I was nervous about the Saturday workshops, I really enjoyed getting to know my other classmates and my instructor and working through assignments together.  Read less
