Nucamp

I chose Nucamp for the affordability and flexibility of schedule and I'm pleased with my overall experience in the HTML CSS and Javascript Fundamentals class. I went into the class with nearly zero experience but I've finished feeling like I have a decent understanding of these basic technologies.

I had a small amount of exposure to Javascript through a free app called Grasshopper prior to the course. This free app basically familiarized me with some of the terminology in Javascript and how variables work, along with the idea of functions within a computer language. So I would have considered myself a newbie+ maybe? HTML and CSS were brand new to me.
Wow, did I learn a lot in four weeks! It is not easy and I recommend staying on track with the syllabus; maybe a day ahead if you can. Even a procrastinator like myself was able to do this and here's why:

The course structure is deceptively simple and very elegant. It does not feel like you have a ton of work to do....therefore you don't feel a dreaded overwhelming-ness. (I don't think that's an actual word, but anyone who struggles with this issue will understand.) Once you get to the lessons, you will soon learn just how packed with info they really are.
Not a word is wasted in the video tutorials. I watched them several times to help myself fully comprehend the material.
The videos are voiced by a very pleasant and easy-to-follow instructor whom you hear and can follow along with in writing if you choose. Typically everything is in writing below the videos, which is great if you learn best by reading! 
Each video is between 2-12 minutes for the most part. It's very well thought out, but you WILL be using your brain and thinking a lot. You will not be spoon fed every answer. The assignments require your full efforts and by applying yourself, you will TRULY learn the material. You will also be much more apt to retain it.

Tips: Stay on top of the material...don't fall behind. Catching up is possible, but not recommended. Why make it harder on yourself? Also, don't be shy about asking for help, but do try and exhaust options for a solid 20 minutes before asking. This is something Nucamp explains and it will make more sense when you start your class. Your instructor is available during the live sessions on Saturdays and via messaging systems within the Nucamp platform and Slack. If you are unfamiliar with Slack, it is a portal/forum for working and collaborating. It's extremely useful! Read less

I chose Nucamp for the ability to choose when I apply myself to coursework, the subjects studied and it's competitive pricing.
Our instructor was very knowledgeable and was always available anytime we needed help.  Overall, a good course for anyone looking to explore web development. Read less

There were a few reasons that I chose Nucamp over other bootcamps that I came across.  They are as follows:

Number 1 was that its format is geared towards those who have full-time responsibilities such as work or school.  Lectures are completed on your own time during the week and it all really comes together during the Saturday classes with the instructor and fellow students.  Other bootcamps out there require that you quit nearly everything to participate in their training on a full-time basis and if they have part-time options, they are fully booked for many months out.  With Nucamp, you can begin your education almost immediately. 

Number 2 was that Nucamp is highly rated and has high reviews from those who have gone through their training.  After a few attempts at other base courses, I took Nucamp's Web Development Fundamentals and can attest that the reviews are well founded as it is by far the best training that I've received. 

Number 3 was the cost which is quite affordable by comparison to other options out there that are easily 10 times the cost.  This shows that Nucamp is truly committed to its mission of making coding education accessible and affordable to everyone.

Number 4 was that they have scholarships available that make an already affordable education even more accessible.  As a military veteran, I was glad to see that my prior service was recognized and made me eligible to receive the Warrior Rising scholarship.

The knowledgeable and effective instructor along with a positive and dedicated group of classmates made my experience all the more worth it.  I fully plan to continue my education with Nucamp's Fullstack Web + Mobile Development track and am very glad to have found this bootcamp as I believe it will 100% enable me to reach my goal of becoming a developer.  Read less

Nucamp was a recommendation from a classmate. I took the 4-week web dev intro course. I felt Nucamp did a really good job of pacing the material so that we learned new concepts every week but were not overwhelmed. The hours of work required to complete it are very reasonable, and the instructor was available a lot for office hours and workshops. It was a good balance between self-directed work and group work, and I felt that all of my questions were answered. The price is exceptional compared to a lot of other online-only courses, and I've signed up to complete the full-stack web development course next.  Read less

I have thought this was going to be so hard for me to understand since i never thought or being in IT or at least try it. At first it seems so hard but once you get together with your instructor and class mates it makes it more easier to understand. I'm a mother of three boys and have a full time job working from home, so making a routine around school was tough had to miss a day or two but my instructor worked with me and was great about it. I really liked learning and being in this bootcamp it helped alot with anxiety and now I'm ready to start the full stack. Read less

I just finished my first course, Introduction to HTML, CSS and Javascript, and it was awesome! I was hesitant at first because I usually benefit more from in person lessons/lectures, but for the price I went along and tried it out. For someone who has a very small history with coding I found the course to go at a very pleasing pace, not too fast and not too slow. On saturdays the lectures are a great way to rap up what you have learned in the week as well. All in all, I am looking forward to registering for the full-stack one and I would definitley recommend nucamp as a bootcamp to anyone looking to try one!  Read less

I knew that it was time to advance my career, I love working in project management but my heart was always yearning for the opportunity to engage in more technical aspects specifically software development.  But honestly, I didn't know exactly where to start, do I go the traditional computer science route via a university or take a leap of faith with a reputable boot camp? I hopped onto "Google University" and instantly became overwhelmed with the available boot camp options and there I stumbled upon Career Karma which was the game changer for me! Becoming a part of the Career Karma community kept me focused, provided daily motivation, and most importantly, I had the opportunity to learn more about various reputable boot camps on a first hand basis.  NuCamp was frequently mentioned by current students and/or recent grads of the program and their reviews were stellar.  During Career Karma's 21 Day Challenge, I purposely reached out to students from various boot camps to include several who were or had attended NuCamp. They raved about the program, the structure, the instructors, and most importantly, many felt it was the best decision they could have ever made for their future especially for those who were completely new to coding.  Based on student reviews, program flexibility, program structure, and affordability, NuCamp was the best and only option for me!  

Fast forward, I'm happy to report that I finished my four week web fundamentals course and didn't realize one could learn or be exposed to so much information over such a short period of time but we truly just scratched the surface which means there is so much more ahead as I continue this exciting transition into the world of technology.  If you're reading this and looking for a boot camp that is manageable, affordable, and dedicated to your success, you should enroll in NuCamp because the career possibilities are endless with their support!   Read less

I took Web Development fundamentals and it was definitely a great learning experience. Sometimes the material can seem overwhelming but our instructor Kevin did an amazing job at explaining and bringing everything together on the weekly workshops. I thought that overall I received what I expected from the course, which was structured learning.  There are many ways to learning coding that are free online, but it is helpful to have a structure and accountability that a class provides.  I had studied some coding previously so I was familiar with coding fundamentals going in, and this was very helpful as the second half of the course on Javascript may be very difficult for someone with no exposure to data structures.  I would recommend keeping this in mind if you choose to attend any bootcamp.  The more you study in advance, the better off you'll be during the course.  

I think the course is a good value compared to the cost of some bootcamps out there (that's another big reason I choose it.  I already have student debt and couldn't imagine taking on anymore).  The class is taught in a hybrid format, so during the week you learn on your own and on Saturdays meet with your instructor and cohort.  During the week, you have access to support on Nucamp's Slack channel.  Depending on the type of learner you are, this may or may not work for you.  Because I knew I enjoyed coding and was self-motivated, I really enjoyed the hybrid format because it gave me flexibility during the week to allocate time the way I needed.  That being said, if there are other demands in your life or you're not sure you're committed to coding yet, the hybrid format may be difficult for you.  

I researched bootcamps for months before choosing Nucamp so I understood that a bootcamp alone would not be enough.  I think that anyone considering this course should be aware of that before signing up.  I practice coding on my own and use supplementary materials in addition to Nucamp.  I heard that this is true of most bootcamps, simply due to the time constraints, you really have to put in the time on your own to master it.  Please keep that in mind if you are considering the course.  

One of the big things i liked about Nucamp as well is the transparency.  While considering the course, nobody from Nucamp tried to "sell" the course to me (while other bootcamps, when I signed up just to see their syllabus, were very aggressive in calling and emailing me).  The people at Nucamp were simply honest about what they offered and that spoke to me about the type of learning environment they had built.

Nucamp is really what you make it.  I plan to continue my study with them in the Fullstack bootcamp. Read less
