This course was well constructed, touching on the background and history of a lot of concepts within the digital UI and UX sector, as well as proving real life examples. The hands on design projects in Figma were well presented and challenging enough to allow for skill development. The UX Foundation course at Design Lab has a well-structured curriculum. It guides students through UI design knowledge, starting from the basics and gradually building up. With weekly mentor sessions and assignment reviews, the pace is manageable, and it's possible to complete the course ahead of schedule if you have the capability. My background in communication design made it easier for me to get started. The course helped me systematically review previously learned UI/UX concepts and get familiar with Figma, which I hadn’t used before. I recommend this course for those focused on a UI/UX career path, especially if they haven’t had a chance to study the field systematically before. Read less

I am new to online learning and I truly felt at ease with the way Designlab has set up their courses. Everything was easy to follow and understand. My mentor was great, Courtney. She really pushed me to put forward quality work. Designlab has been great throughout the course as well always answering any questions or concerns we may have. I learned ALOT in only 1 month. I now have the confidence to enter the UX Academy with the skills to succeed. They also offer key differentiators from other online courses. I know one of the biggest concerns when doing an online bootcamp is producing a "cookie cutter" portfolio. When moving on to the UX Academy after completing UXA Foundations, you have multiple choices as how to approach and form our portfolios. I am super excited about that. With the UXA Foundations course, I am pretty proficient with Figma now and really understand the UI process better than I ever did before. They even worked with me on paying for the course. As someone with no design experience, this is a great beginners course for UX Design! Learning and navigating Figma definitely had its challenges and frustrations (all the units took me longer than the projected time), but it can get a little easier as you move onto the the later units. Overall, this is a well-organized Foundations course, and I really appreciated the 1:1 mentor sessions. Having access to a mentor was one of the biggest selling points for me when I was researching different online bootcamps. You will get out of the program what you put into it, so I'd recommend signing up for a Designlab info session first, trying Foundations before jumping into UX Academy, and then setting realistic expectations and goals for yourself as you go through the program. Doing a bootcamp with a full-time job isn't easy, so I also appreciated that the admissions team can and will offer extensions, if you need it. This Foundations program certainly gave me the knowledge and confidence I need to keep exploring a new career path in tech.  Read less

If you’re interested in switching your career to UI/UX design, Designlab is a great option. The Designlab program offers one-on-one mentorship, and the mentors are experienced in sharing their insights and opinions. Throughout the learning process, I was able to continuously gain experience and improve my design skills. Read less

This course was a comprehensive basics course to get started with figma and Ux/ui design. The course is well paced and gives you a ton of resources to review on your own time. The best part of it all, the mentor feedback. My mentor in particular, Diana Martinez, was outstanding and gave me the support I needed while also helping me learn as an individual.   Read less

I am an independent artist that has been supplementing my income with service industry jobs for about a decade. I was recommended to take the Design Labs Online classes by a friend who found herself in a similar position of wanting to transition careers about a year ago and was able to do so with Designlabs online program. I am very pleased with the experience so far and found the courses to be well paced, informative and well designed in that they make learning new software (a notoriously frustrating experience) manageable by breaking down information and tasks into digestible pieces.  Read less

I chose to enroll in Design Lab to launch a career pivot. I enrolled in the UX Academy Foundations to learn the basics of UI, not fully knowing what to expect with an online course, as I work full time. I’ve absolutely loved it. Staff has been attentive with all questions, both academic wise and administratively. Mentors have been thorough, pushing me to really understand concept fully. The content is robust, and I often find myself excited to read each lesson and engage in the weekly projects. There are a few elements with Figma I wish they went over more thoroughly, as the recent Figma updates sometimes makes instructions harder to follow. But these are rare occurrences and I believe they will be addressed in the future. 

Overall the course is wonderful and I fully intend to move on to additional classes with Design Lab.  Read less

Over the summer months, I followed the Data-Driven Design course from Designlab to better understand how and when data can be integrated into my design processes. The course is built up into 6 units spread across 6 weeks. That can be demanding when you combine it with a full-time work schedule but the estimated hours per unit are accurate and the sessions can be planned when they suit you best. 

I found the material interesting and diverse, it was not groundbreaking but the basics were well explained, the exercises were challenging and educational, and the peer sessions helped answer the remaining questions. They were also ideal moments to work on presentation skills (with data and in general) with people from the same field. These sessions were also well hosted by a capable mentor. The mentorship stood out for me and was a big difference from previous courses I've taken. Read less

Overall great course. It is nicely paced over a period of 6 weeks. There is the option to dive deeper into the weekly topics by extra reading materials. Every week you meet with your peer group and mentor. The asignments  are challenging but doable. The course helped me feel more comfortable using data in my daily work.  Read less

It was flexible, very detailed, and organized. I loved meeting with my mentor because he knew so much and helped me learn at a much quicker pace than I would have on my own. I loved the entire experience! It was definitely a lot of work but I now feel like I have a solid foundation of UX design.  Read less

I became interested in UX Design after feeling a bit stalled in my marketing career. I was looking for an opportunity to both leverage my existing skills in understanding user behavior online and general marketing/design principles and gain a new skill that could help me diversify my career options.

I enrolled in Designlab's UX Academy Foundations (as I didn't have prior graphic design or related experience) to see if this was something I was really interested in pursuing while also earning admission into the full program.

I loved the breakdown and structure of the course - the combination of deadlines, along with flexibility in actually getting your work done within a given week, provided the perfect balance of urgency and flexibility.

I learned a ton, in 8 weeks, I got paired with a mentor who helped provide insights into working in design, how to evaluate my own work and think about critique more insightfully. I built a wireframe for a website, iterated on my design, learned how to design forms and responsive pages and got pretty good at Figma. 

I'd say even if i wasn't planning on continuing into the academy - its an excellent foundation in UX/UI principles with hands on practice and it's actually quite fun. I would recommend this course to anyone in a similar position. Read less

During this program I gained a lot of focus and growth through practical exercises and built a solid foundation in UX design principles. Given my extensive background, there was the possibility that I could have tested out of Foundations - I'm glad I decided against that option. I had slight doubts about the pace and whether or not I could stay on track and deliver something that would over exceed even my own expectations. Hands down, mentorship from industry professionals accelerated my learning and research to quickly prepare me for the UX Academy. Overall, I've enhanced my creativity, which will help me continue to upgrade my skills and make a major career shift a little further down the road. Read less

I enjoyed the curriculum! Designlab covered many topics and takes you through a design project. The course gives you time estimates and clear expectations of what it takes to get approved or require iterations. By working with one experienced mentor, your feedback doesn't conflict. After taking a foundations course with a different online school, I much preferred the course offered by Designlab. Many resources are offered as well as information about AI.  Read less

I signed up for the UX Academy Foundations course with the plan to pursue the UX Academy afterward. Foundations gave me the perfect quick look into what is to come for the main Academy and what the teaching style of DesignLab is. They are very up-to-date with the content that they teach - I was surprised to be learning about generative AI with UX/UI, but there were even exercises putting it into play with the projects!
