This is a foundations course that is well worth the expense. You have a good structure, a great mentor, and feedback that is worth while. Everything is simply laid out for you and resources are easy to find. My favorite aspect of this course is the mentorship.  I recently completed the UX Academy Foundations course in May 2025, and I wanted to take a moment to share my feedback.Overall, I had a fantastic experience. The curriculum was well-structured, comprehensive, and thoughtfully designed, providing a solid introduction to key UX and UI principles. Each module built upon the last in a logical and engaging way, which made learning both efficient and enjoyable.I also want to highlight the outstanding mentorship I received from Laura. She was consistently professional, supportive, and insightful. Her feedback was always constructive and encouraging, and she truly helped me grow as a designer. Overall I had a great experience. I have a background in graphic design so I think that gave me a little advantage when it came to the UI basics but it was a great experience and platform to learn Figma, especially with mentor support. I found some of the lessons really lengthy and confusing in terms of when it came to doing each project, like the connection to a degree, but mentor was able to clarify a lot of things for me that made sense. Watching Figma tutorials outside of the course helped me a lot and I think overall the information provided was mostly clear and relevant. I would soak up all the knowledge and experience of your mentor and not be afraid to ask for what you need support wise as well as just clear communication overall. The DL support team was also really helpful with any questions/concerns I had along the way and were really flexible with me since I was moving internationally during the duration of the course. Overall I think this was a really good intro and excited to start UX academy in a few months. Read less

The UX Academy Foundations course offers a thoughtfully structured introduction to UX and visual design, perfect for beginners or career-switchers. Each unit builds on the last, guiding you from early research and ideation through wireframing and visual design in Figma. The hands-on approach—developing a real project like my Wayfarer concept—makes the learning process feel meaningful and applicable. Weekly mentor sessions were a standout, providing personalized feedback and consistent support; my mentor, was instrumental in helping me stay motivated and creatively focused. I also appreciated that, while the course doesn’t directly teach AI tools, it does acknowledge the evolving role of AI in design and integrates how emerging technologies might complement UX workflows. The curriculum balances flexibility with accountability, making it easier to maintain momentum while managing a busy schedule. Read less

I wanted to explore a UX career and learn some tools of the trade to do so. I was also interested in learning more about UX design for my current role and also to explore creating a prototype of a business idea I have in my head. The UX Academy Foundations was a great, cost-effective way to do this and I think it was a great learning experience and value for what I received. As someone transitioning from graphic design to UX design, I already knew a lot of basics of UX design but not a lot of hard skills in practices. This course surprised me in that I truly learned a lot! I knew I was going to enjoy it, but I appreciated how lessons were structured and the use of learning iteration via my mentor and other students! I was looking into different online programs for UX/UI design and loved the fact that Designlab has been around for many years and they only focus on this design courses and wasn't just a "course factory". I made the right decision because I could tell the thought that went into the details and information I was given in this course and I'm really excited to get started at the UX academy very soon! 

Another thing that really helped me was the mentor that I had. She was so encouraging and helpful. I'm so grateful to have her expertise and I'm looking forward to learning all I can from my mentor during UX academy!

I'm also looking forward to the help of the career services after I've finished with UX academy to assist me with my job search.

I did the UX Foundations course as a prerequisite for the UX Academy.My goal was really to get up to scratch with Figma, while learning some fundamentals on UI design. The UX Academy Foundations really delivered on this, and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking to do the same.They also offer live mentoring sessions to get feedback from a real person, while working on the case study, which I’ve found to be valuable. I loved the Foundations course at Designlab. It is a very unique bootcamp because it is on 2 parts. First is the Foundations then the UX Academy. Why I love this is because you can get indepth experience to see if you enjoy the work before investing all the tuition at once. The mentorship is awesome and the curriculum is very thorough. I am continuing on to their UX Academy and will review that as well when I finish in May. Go Designlab! Read less

I enjoyed my time studding a course in Designlab. the material is well explain and it touches many topics while giving you sources to learn dipper if needed / or wanted. During my UX design review, I had the invaluable opportunity to learn under the guidance of an experienced mentor who helped shape both my professional skills and personal growth. This mentorship was more than a technical training; it became a meaningful journey of self-discovery and insight into the art of user experience design.
Through constructive feedback, my mentor challenged me to think critically about the designs I created and the user-centric problems they aimed to solve. I learned how to analyze user needs, balance functionality with aesthetics, and approach design iteratively, always keeping the user at the core of the process. My mentor emphasized the importance of storytelling within UX design, teaching me to communicate my ideas effectively and articulate the “why” behind every decision.
More importantly, this experience offered profound lessons about myself. I discovered my ability to adapt to new tools and processes, build resilience through constructive critique, and approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset. Pros:One of the best aspects of the program is that you can take your time to complete the assignments without feeling rushed. The classes provide useful tips to find inspiring websites that can be a great help. They also teach very practical skills.
Cons:All the classes are reading-based. It would be great to have audio or video options, as it can get boring after a while. Additionally, I would have appreciated some guidance on how to find a job or career opportunities, but this is not something they offer.

As I already have experience in the UX/UI field, it’s a bit difficult to view things from a beginner’s perspective.
Cons:
• You might need extra time to learn beyond the classes, such as reading additional articles.
• Balancing this with a full-time job can be challenging.


Pros:
• Hierarchical structure in classes, making the learning process organized.
• Having a mentor to guide you.
• Dedicated time (around 1 hour) for sessions, allowing you to freely ask questions.

Designlab was awesome, mentors allowed you to work and provided excellent feedback. Work was self paced and was very well structured.i appreciate the way designlab designed their classes where we can work on our own pace.the unfortunate side is there is no instructor led courses. Read less

This course fulfilled my expectations and gave me a great intro into the field of UX/UI.  It teaches you the basics of Figma through a 7 unit course and each unit builds off of the previous unit.  The material never felt like it was too much to handle and they give you ample time to finish the course (8 weeks).

They also provide you a 1 on 1 mentor that you meet with online to review each units work (around once a week or whenever you complete a unit).  The mentor they assign you is highly qualified and in the design field, so they are very helpful.  Overall, very good experience and makes me want to continue on with learning about the design industry.
