BrainStation

Having completed a two-year Computer Programming course at Seneca, I found myself in possession of a solid academic foundation but with a skill set that felt underdeveloped for the demands of the tech industry. My transition to BrainStation was a revelation. From the outset, the learning environment resonated with a sense of purpose and practicality that was both invigorating and inspiring.

At BrainStation, the curriculum wasn't just about learning to code; it was a comprehensive dive into the very fabric of modern web development. The courses were detailed and went beyond the basics, covering cutting-edge topics like SASS and advanced SCSS styling — subjects that were barely skimmed over at Seneca. Every project was meticulously crafted to reinforce our learning, allowing us to apply theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios, thereby solidifying our understanding and proficiency.

What set BrainStation apart was the emphasis on collaborative learning. Working alongside peers on projects mimicked a real-world tech environment, where Git wasn't just a version control system but a vital tool for teamwork and technical communication. This not only improved my coding skills but also prepared me for the collaborative nature of the tech industry.
The instructors at BrainStation brought a wealth of industry experience to the table, providing insights that one simply cannot glean from textbooks alone. Their guidance was crucial in not just learning the material, but in understanding how to apply it effectively in a professional setting.

Where to begin, on one hand my experience with the education team was incredible.  The teachers are all very unique and incredibly intelligent, it was a pleasure to learn from all of them and I feel like a completely different person from when I started.  On the other hand, the career experience team is very lackluster.  You don't really deal with them very much until the end of the course so it doesn't really affect you all too much but the stark contrast in quality is jarring.  

Overall, if you're looking to transition careers or upskill I do think BrainStation is worth it.  In particular my cohort was full of excellent and exceptional people.  I would like it if there was more communication between the different teams for a more seamless experience when integrating among the disciplines but overall it was very fun.  As for job assistance I can't really comment on that at this point as we've just begun that aspect and it seems more like a solo experience with check ins.   Read less

After a lot of research, I decided on a tech bootcamp experience because I needed not only the new skills/knowledge but also career support in transitioning. I had pretty low expectations of what the teaching part was going to be like and expected I was going to have to supplement a lot on my own, but I was happily surprised by the pedagogy. I have a background in education so feel really clear that we received a good educational experience--our educators held high expectations while being very supportive, the curriculum was well-considered and focused, and the assignments (while taking all of my free time for 8 out of the 12 weeks) were really well-designed to practice our skills and received thorough, meaningful feedback. The career support mostly kicks in after the program so I can't speak much to that part of the program yet, but as someone who had never had to market myself inside of a competitive job market, I already feel much better prepared on how to tell my own story authentically via a resume and linkedin while aligning that story to a job I'm seeking. When I was first looking around for a bootcamp, I was overwhelmed with the amount of coding bootcamp options. I chose to enroll to BrainStation Software Engineering bootcamp, and at first I was skeptical and unsure. But now as a bootcamp graduate I am over satisfied with the results and skills that I've learned from this course. I signed up for this after years of trying to teach myself software development and I learned more here in 3 months than I did in 3+ years trying to teach myself. The content and the educators are top-notch and the pacing pushed me (without pushing me over the edge, haha). Read less

My Datascience bootcamp experience with brainstation was great. I learned so much and expanded my skill set tremendously. The instructors were knowledgeable and all working in the industry which gave us a lot of insight into what a potential employer might be looking for in terms of our skills. There were a lot of long hours involved and the projects were challenging, but I came out the other side with so much. At the end of the bootcamp and afterwards, there has been a lot of help and support trying to find a job. Brainstation is a great online and in person digital school. I went through the 12 weeks Software Engineering program and learnt so much. It's fast paced but I promise these hard weeks are gonna be so rewarding at the end when you look back at how much you were able to learn in such a small amount of time. I was able to build my own capstone project to present at the end of the bootcamp with complete full stack skills. I made my own database, I could have never imagine being capable of such thing back in November. 

In terms of educators, Brainstation's team is gold. Our teacher were so knowledgeable, every lecture comes with it's own demo and every time we have questions, they go back over the topic and make sure we understand the whole concept. After each lecture we also had labs to ensure we were able to apply everything we just learnt. 

Again, I can't recommend Brainstation's bootcamp enough, what an experience! Read less

Also, the campus is in Old Street so very well connected. I came into the class interested in learning about UX and seeing if there could be a possibility in exploring a career change. Although I don’t think it’s a fit for me careerwise now, I still enjoyed the class and learned a lot about UX and tested my creative abilities.

Before joining the boot camp, I was skeptical as I had to forgo 3-4 paychecks of my career. But by the end of the first week, I realized I had to play catch up as they delivered day after day, week after week, highly structured, academic-industry relevant, highly technical content. Their project-based learning is highly effective, and this is what gives us confidence in our transformation. The time-bound nature of the assignment submissions was ruthless, leaving me scrambling for the last few minutes before the deadline. I have never had so many sleepless nights in one quarter, and I don’t think I have worked so hard on anything in life with such intensity. The feedback on those assignments is useful. The Synapse and Slack platforms are state-of-the-art. The lead Educators are highly skilled and have been very supportive, patient and friendly. The other educators effectively complemented. Overall, my stint has been nothing short of magical. I highly recommend this boot camp. Read less

From the Python and Statistics prep material to actual course materials, everything was carefully selected for industry relevance and for the fast learning pace. The instructors made sure we understood everything before moving to the next concept and also, interaction amongst the students were a great help in grasping difficult concepts. I took BrainStation's Product Management course which lasted for 8 weeks, one class (3 hours) per week. Although this course is geared towards those interested in starting a Product Management career, I felt that the course was much more expansive! The course is structured in a way that you learn how to build products from 0 to 1 -- great for those also interested in becoming a founder or even understanding a product's life cycle (helpful if working in strategy x tech). 

I really enjoyed the small class size (~6 students) and that everyone brought a unique pov to discussions coming from varying career backgrounds. Beyond course content, learning from my peers was really insightful. To other BrainStation instructors -- definitely try to foster dynamic class discussions! Read less
