    Just what I needed

This class was exactly what I needed! I am from a business background who currently runs an E-Commerce Magento Website. I wanted to be able to develop on my own website and be able to do basic/intermediate things. This class is very fast paced... this class will give you 2 year headstart in developing within 6 months. If you want to truly jump careers, this is a great place to start. Developing is such an individual sport in the sense that there is so much to learn and resources to read. I...

Amazing, Leonard! Successfully going through the program while running your own company and taking care of a family is inspiring. You are right that coding is a lifestyle and you never stop learning and growing, and we’re thrilled to know that the program gave you the skills and experiences you needed. You definitely put in the hard work required both in and outside of class, and we know you will go on to develop awesome things for your e-commerce website and more. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. Congrats on graduating, we wish you all the best going forward!

    Disappointing

When looking into the program you are directed to a Trilogy "admissions" specialist who is a salesperson trying to get you to fill a spot. They will push you towards an upcomming cohort to fill the class but many of things they "check for" (ie distance to the campus) are irrelevant (people lived 2 hours away from campus). Check to make sure that you are provided the appropriate invoice, I was provided one amount, then another amount, and then finally another amount in the form of a refund ...

Thank you for your feedback. We regret that your experience did not meet your expectations.

From your review, we understand that your class did encounter some instructional difficulties which ultimately led you to drop the course. As you mentioned, UCLA Extension has partnered with Trilogy Education Services (TES) to offer UCLA Extension Boot Camps, and UCLA Extension is actively involved in the success of the boot camp, working closely with TES on the curriculum, instructor selection, and outcomes of each cohort. We aim to be fully transparent about this relationship throughout the entire experience.

It's our goal to hire quality instructors through our rigorous, multi-part interview process, requiring a minimum of three years' experience in the field, but we understand that not all teaching styles will resonate with every student. Our classes are also recorded for quality assurance, monitoring instructor performance and class engagement to provide feedback to help them further develop their teaching skills.

Our program was designed to serve a mix of individuals with varying experience levels, and in order to help prepare learners, all individuals are provided 30 hours or pre-work to complete before the first day of class. From there, the program is designed to teach students how to learn so they can further hone their skills both outside of the classroom as well as after completing the boot camp, and we encourage students to explore external resources to supplement their learning.

Due to the challenging nature of the course, we strive to provide additional support through free tutoring, office hours with instructors and TAs, optional one-on-one sessions, supplemental resources, and more.

It is our goal for all learners to feel supported every step of the way in our boot camp. We would love to speak with you personally to see if there is anything else we can do at this time to support your personal and professional goals. If you would like, please call (310) 955-4093.

    Worth it!

I had a great experience at the UCLA boot camp. It's tough so make sure you have time dedicated to studying. You'll learn a little about a new language each class but it's your responsibility to study up at home and familiarize yourself with it or you will fall behind. Trust me on this one! Also, take advantage of the resources. We didn't find out we had a tutor available for free until the end of the course. The teacher and TA's were great! Make sure you're in Charlie or Tristan's class. ...

Great Learning Experience, Career help a joke

I recently completed the boot camp.  This is a pass or fail class so the grades are just for you to know how you are doing.  You will learn a little about a lot of different topics, and will need to spend 30-40 hours every week working on the homework and learning on your own.  The TA's are very helpful, but find the one you like best and always go go them when you can.  It helps to build a working relationship, because they will know your code and be able to help you better.  Plus when yo...

As you mention, our program experienced a change in personnel during your cohort. Since then, our team as a whole has been working hard to get our students up to speed and fill any possible gaps they may have experienced. While we do not secure employment for our students, we strive to empower them with the tools and support necessary to enter their local job market and so, we’d like to ensure that you are receiving the guidance you need.

    Buyer beware...

I recently graduated from the Trilogy/UCLA program. UCLA, and other schools, are partnering with a company called Trilogy. The owner is a former educator now capitalizing on the boot camp hype. He knows nothing about programming himself.

I was originally sold on the program because it was part time over 6 months rather than full time over 3 months. This seemed to me a better way to really absorb the material, because it's not realistic to code 12+ hours a day for 3 months and...

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.  We will strive to respond to each of your concerns.

The Coding Bootcamp at UCLA Extension is a data-driven program. Based on market conditions, we actively adjust the curriculum to best serve the long-term needs of our students. This equips our students with skills sought after by local employers.  A great example of this was the curriculum update from Angular to React, which took place before classes began and the shift from PHP to Java in the fall. React and Java were each in higher demand.

As you note, the boot camp model is rigorous and fast-paced, and we cover a great deal of knowledge in a limited amount of time. We do our best to communicate to students that because we cover a full-stack, topics are introduced at a higher level in class, after which students are expected to dive in and gain a deeper understanding outside of class. This helps students learn how to problem-solve and self-teach, a key skill in a developer’s career. Our team is constantly working to improve our curriculum to ensure that students have the best learning experience possible. We are happy to hear that you found both the program structure and additional training sessions helpful.

As you mentioned, we do provide office hours and have various other avenues for outside help including tutoring, Slack, email and phone. While there are many students to assist, our instructors, TAs and student success team do their best to make sure students feel supported.

Projects are necessarily completed in shorter time frames in order to prepare students for future roles in tech, creating the same sense of urgency as one will face in the workplace with tight deadlines. Unfortunately, in any workplace, you may not always be grouped with like-minded individuals and we regret that you had a sub-par experience with your teammates.

Demo Day, as we note throughout the program, is a networking event with employers, and we make no guarantee of placement. It’s intended as an opportunity to showcase your skills, practice your pitches, receive valuable feedback on your projects and make connections. About 87% of our career-seeking students attended Demo Day, with 54 employers in attendance.

Our career services team strives to be clear about expectations.  We cannot find a job for you, but we are here to empower you with the tools needed for you to find the right job. We provided resume, portfolio, Github and LinkedIn reviews, as well as company tour opportunities with Hulu, Ace Metrix, and Core Logic/Pivotal Labs. We also had a CTO panel with seven CTOs and onsite networking practice. Our team held eight live sessions on topics ranging from the tech landscape to interviewing, as well as mock interview days for both behavioral and technical assistance. We hope you found these sessions helpful.

We know job seeking is hard and often a full-time job in itself, which is why we encourage students to submit a large number of quality applications weekly and to maximize their networking. In our experience, students who are proactive in their approaches land jobs at a quicker and easier rate. But, our career services don’t end at graduation, so we would love to know how else we can support you as you continue the job search. Please feel free to call me directly at (310) 955-4093 so we can discuss your needs further.

    Great Experience!!

This class was excellent! Definitely helped me in both my skillset and my career. One great thing about this program is that it cultivates a support system within the cohorts. We were encouraged to seek help not only from our teachers but from other students as well. Another good thing about this bootcamp is that teachers and career advisors were amazing at hearing our concerns. Help is certainly there when a student would need it. All in all I would definitely recommend this bootcamp and ...

    UCLA Bootcamp Experience

Definitely loved everything about this bootcamp. It was a great experience for someone who had no idea how to code in any sort of language. They taught the fundamental and developed a base of strong foundation to the "newbies" and the patience that the TA's and instructor had with all the students was quite commendable. The staff were always encouraging and pushing all the students to higher heights while also creating great relationships that helped with "awkward imposter syndrome" that n...
