Practicum is Practical

Practicum is great. I don't think it's 100/100 but it closes in 95 or above for sure. The information gets to the heart of what software engineering is about and I think they do a fantastic time with giving yo the tools in order for you to solve every problem. They hold your hand just enough in the beginning to get your pace set us but you very much have to be self motivated because you won't finish or hit your deadlines if this isn't your endgame. The best part of Practicum aren't their lectures but the community. You get access to many skilled tutors and they host office hours and can help you with your questions and concerns, this is priceless especially when starting out because coding isn't the easiest of tasks. I would recommend practicum to anybody. -

In my time in Practicum's Data Science bootcamp I have developed a good understanding of the Python pandas library and how to use it to manipulate and look into data files. The learning pace is quick, and to stay on track you must spend a good amount of time per week studying and reviewing the coursework. I am still attending the bootcamp while working a full-time job, which is certainly challenging, but if you have the desire and motivation to learn data science then you can make it happen. If you have any questions or problems with the coursework or the projects, there are tutors and instructors that are available every day throughout the week that will happily assist you. There are also learning sessions every Saturday where instructors will go in-depth into the course material and show some different examples of how to use what you've learned throughout the bootcamp. Practicum makes all the resources you need to do well available, it's up to you to use them to your advantage and help develop your learning and knowledge of the subjects. My community manager checks in with me often and makes sure that I can access what I need for learning easily and readily, and regularly offers reminders about opportunities for communication with tutors and instructors. Practicum's cost for the Data Science bootcamp was very reasonable, especially after working out a 30% discount with the recruiter. The job acceptance statistic was very attractive too, one of the major reasons why I chose Practicum for my Data Science training. -

Valuable Real-life Team Projects

The most valuable part of this bootcamp was the abundance of group collaboration projects you get to sign up for and gain experience from. In all my tech interviews, I was able to bring up these valuable team work experiences and stand out from the rest. Team work is very important in this field and only having solo projects in your portfolio isn't the optimal way to go.
Practicum has code jams, apiary projects, pair programming, senior students and other opportunities you can work with others in coding. The curriculum itself is very comprehensive as well, given 10 months. I felt very confident in my skills upon graduation, especially with my frontend skills including vanilla CSS, vanilla JS and React.
One thing I will point out is that this bootcamp may be very challenging if students enroll without any prior knowledge of programing or basic computer literacy. You will be asked to work with command lines, terminals, git right away. I also see lots of people struggle with JS and responsive design. This is not a handholding bootcamp where things will be fed to your mouth. Utilize the resources you have and try your darn best to work hard, and then this will be a blast. -

My interest in data science started after my early introduction while studying for my engineering degree. After the completion of my degree, I decided to break into the data space and did a bit of self-learning using multiple resources available online. I came to the quick realization that I need a structure to guide my learning and also curate what I really need to know, without trying to understand everything that there is out and getting into a rabbit hole. The bootcamp covers all skills you will need and libraries for the data science projects; from data gathering, data cleaning, data exploration, model building and training and finally model validation, all of this in the context of business value. This was a structure that practicum provided. The additional service of code review by industry data scientist was also an important part that validated my skill set and morale boost. Each module was well explained and expanded, and I saw the value in this having tried to study using other resources. However, the specialty modules (nlp, computer vision and deep learning) in my opinion are introductory, understandably so and for students with an interest in these field; additional study will be required to build on the basics taught in the boot camp. The community on slack were very professional, quick to respond to any learning concerns and questions about the projects and other personal projects.
Overall, practicum has been valuable in my journey to become a data scientist

Data Analytics

How it startedAre you looking for a program that is quick, and easy? This isn’t the path for you. Deciding to join a field I have no experience or knowledge in, is one of the most difficult and rewarding choices I’ve made. I started this mission at a point in my life where I wanted a challenge, to see what I was capable of. I needed to find a program that would facilitate this challenge. I wanted an education that could offer me more than PowerPoints and mandatory Zoom lectures. Dedication is required, if you want to succeed in this bootcamp. The motivational speaker T. Harv Eker said it best, ““The only time you are actually growing is when you are uncomfortable.”
Why PracticumI did my research to see what made Practicum different from other programs, and I highly suggest you do the same. This program introduces what a Data Analyst does, by teaching skills in a realistic project format. Unlike most programs, we don’t take tests. We work at our own pace. A general calendar is given, but it’s only to help us stay on course. There is no grading scale.
I wondered, how is the program structured? Our goal is to complete lessons on an interactive platform and apply those lessons to a project. It’s broken down into manageable chapters, and further broken down into lessons. You project is reviewed, comments are left, and you have unlimited opportunity’s to fix and resubmit it. It’s very stress-free, and the reviewer offers guidance and suggestions. They are very encouraging.
What does a Data Analyst do?I gathered general information about the purpose of a Data Analyst: identifying efficiencies, problem areas, or possible improvements for businesses. We learn what it means to import, inspect, clean, transform, validate, collect process and interpret data. But what does that mean? The best way to understand is with a real life example. If a gaming company wants to develop a marketing strategy, they hire a data analyst. They would provide visual reports as to which factors have the highest impact on revenue: is it genre, is it rating, maybe platform?? We learn how to pick up trends in the data.
With the ability to code, we learn to answer complex business decisions. This program also gives us access on how to acquire data, to answer those questions.
Can I do this?I had no idea what a data analyst was, all I knew was they can work remotely and make good money. A huge question I needed to know: “Do I need a college degree to be a Data Analyst?” The answer is: No!! But you might want to refresh your functions and statistics skills. You’ll be able to lean on tutors, StackOverflow, and Youtube for support.
Another question I asked: “Are they hiring remote jobs that pay well?” I continue to check daily, and yes!! I have the privilege of narrowing down the companies, based on the type I want to work for.
They are motivated to help you find a career. My main skepticism was their price to take the course. Why is the program significantly more affordable than others like it? Practicum is still relativity new - which means the students are helping them develop and improve the user experience.
I didn’t recognize any of the subjects listed in the program that I would be learning. Before I started, I wondered, “Will I succeed if I have NO experience?” The answer is, YES!!! I look at it like I’m learning a new language. I don’t consider myself a fast learner, however I am able to keep up with the pace. The tutors offer zoom meetings, you can share your screen and receive guidance. Often, they teach me insider tricks, tips, and hacks, that only come from working experience. I learned to focus on the concepts, rather than trying to memorize the code. Data Analysts often have resources they refer to when working on projects.
Communication Slack is a messaging platform that Practicum uses. We use this to communicate with our tutors, community manager, professor, and other students. You can see what other students ask, or ask your own questions. This has been a great resource when I’m stuck on an error, or need an extension. I also use the support chat within the lesson I am working on. If your error is simple, they are able to help you quickly.
Program SupportThis program is designed to help students succeed. It’s very hard, which I’ve learned to appreciate. I will admit, there are moments during this course that I’ve doubted myself. It felt as though I was not able to absorb all this new information. A tutor convinced me to trust the process, telling me it was slowly begin to become second nature. No matter how hard I am struggling: I can always get more time, I can always get more help, and I am never alone. I put my skills to the test when we did our Integrated Project. I was able to recall and apply the new information I once found impossibly challenging.
Anxiety contributes to why I have not had success with traditional online programs. Deadlines often discouraged me, fearing my lifestyle would interfere with meeting them. Practicum is flexible. The community manager is REALLY going to help you. When a particular “sprint” is difficult, I’ve been given one week extensions for extra time and support. Also, they offer students breaks. I was able to take a week off from my studies without falling behind. The team at Practicum encourages you to take these extensions and breaks when you need them.
The extensions and breaks made the largest impact on my success. The supper they offer, and the way they communicate that support, is the number one reason I recommended this program over others that offer similar skills.
Career Support The projects you’ve created are resources for a resume. They provide realistic tasks you could expect to perform for a client or company. Data workers are in high demand, because coding is a valuable experience to most employers. As it continues to grow, the STEM field is in high demand of workers. This career is versatile, there are many different career paths you can transition to: software engineering, data scientist, etc. Joining a STEM field is a safe investment with my future. -

I decided to start my data science career after graduating in Engineering. Back then, I had average coding skills, although completely new to Python, and some decent Math background. I looked forward to a course that would be suitable to my level and that would help me start working in this career. After carefully searching online and reading through reviews of courses in this same Course Report website, I ended up picking Practicum, and now that I am about to finish this course, I am very satisfied and happy with my choice!
Practicum came as a cost-efficient option that would also give me the choice of learning at my own pace if needed. I had a demo of the first Python sprint before entering the course, which is a complete basic course and is a great way to test the platform before enrolling. I was surprised at how the topics were explained in a concise and efficient way, while making sure I was understanding the practical aspect of what I was learning. After this great initial experience the difficulty increases with each sprint, and although I had previous knowledge in some chapters, there were still challenging new topics to learn. The explanations are mainly text and questions to answer and they feel very dynamic, with graphs, images and step-by-step coding practices. Support is always a click away, while questions about the learning material can be asked to tutors available on the Slack channels. The whole staff and environment is very welcoming and I sincerely admire the teaching methods of tutors to prepare for jobs later on.
At the end of each sprint, there is a project that helps in grasping what was learned and adds to the list of projects developed by the student, and these are really the best part of the bootcamp. That's when students start communicating on the Slack channels to ask questions about the challenging parts of the project. Projects are developed in the practicum platform app and there are also weekly webinars aimed to help students, and they mimic real-world tasks. There are also weekly webinars to expand on specific topics about Data Science, and that's a nice way to get to meet other students.
Practicum also provides a Career Prep course, but before I finished the bootcamp I started working as a researcher in an university, so I haven't started it yet. The Python skills I learned were more than enough to start working as a Python developer, and I noticed that even some of my colleagues did not know some resources that I had learned. I generally feel confident and motivated to keep growing my Data Science career. I still intend to attend the Career Prep course and then I will be able to complete this review. -

I come from an entertainment background, but I’ve always been interested in potentially working in a tech field/industry. I’ve also always been somewhere who has a natural curiosity about data and the information that can be derived from it. After thinking about it some, I decided to pursue an online program in data analyst. This allowed me to still be able to work part-time without having to change my work schedule. I researched many programs, but I eventually settled on Practicum as it offered the most value for the cost. I was also very intrigued by the opportunity to work with real companies and then have those companies vouch for you on websites such as LinkedIn. Practicum also had the most unique set up with a dedicated platform to work on the coding and theory. This allowed for hands-on practice and repetition which allowed me to retain the material. The projects at the end of the module also helped solidify the skills I just learned and how they could be applied in a real-world setting. Additionally, these projects aided in building my portfolio. I’m nearing the end of the program now and I’ve been exposed to many of the skills required for a Jr. Data Analyst position and I feel equipped to apply to jobs once I finish the program. The Slack community was also crucial in aiding me overcome coding challenges when working on the tasks or projects. It also helped in seeing how people have different coding styles, but the end result is the same. Practicum also offers a Career Prep course that I am also enrolled in. I’m not done with it yet but what I’ve seen so far is a good indicator that the Prep Course will indeed be helpful when it comes to learning how to build an online network. -

I started the Data Science program at Practicum about 6 months ago (it is a 9-month program). I can say that 6 months later, I feel that I have learned a lot! I started the program because I wanted to make a change in my career path that I felt would challenge me in ways that I have not been challenged before and to acquire a job that best suits my lifestyle as a mom of 2. My background is in psychology and academic tutoring, so it was a pretty significant shift going from that to data science. That being said, I have always been very passionate about data and statistics, which led me on the path to discover the relatively new world of data science. Being a mom of 2, I knew that taking the formal education route again (I already had a Bachelors degree) was not going to be a viable option time-wise or financially, so I started looking for online programs that offered a fast but concentrated training without breaking the bank. I researched several other online programs before I discovered Practicum, but ultimately I chose practicum because it was cost-effective, it's expertise and curriculum was rated highly, and because they guarantee job placement in your field within 6 months of graduation. Six months into the program, I could say that this program definitely provides a solid foundation of training in data science. The learning platform provides a flexible way to learn the material, and each cohort has tutors that we can access regularly with any questions. I will say the only con is that although the curriculum is challenging it can sometimes be unclear how to solve certain assigned tasks within the chapter. Nevertheless, the tutors are usually available to provide extra explanations as to how to go about with the solutions. When I first started the program, I found that delegating about 15-20 hours a week studying was sufficient to move along at a steady pace. However, as the topics become more advanced I find myself dedicating about 30 hours or so a week completing material and projects. So, although the program is online, you should still expect to dedicate several hours toward it a week if you intend on staying on track. I am nearing graduation in a few months, which I am very excited about! I feel as though I went from knowing nothing about data science to being able to understand theoretical and practical applications of data science. In this way, I feel that Practicum is preparing me for a career in data science. I look forward to being able to apply everything this program has top in my job in the future! -

Taking this Data Science bootcamp was undoubtedly the best choice to make in my career path. As a Finance and Accounting professional, I wanted to take my data analysis skills to the next level and had previously tried to learn Python for Data Science autonomously, but was lacking the right structure to progressively gain sufficient knowledge so as to be able to complete an end-to-end project, being fully aware of the underlying mathematical foundations each ML model is based on.
At first, I wasn't really sure whether I would be able to commit 20 hours a week on top of my 40 hours workload, but fortunately, decided to challenge myself to do so. The whole Practicum team, from the Community Managers to the tutors, are always willing and happy to help with anything that may pop up, making the programme fit your own schedule and prioritizing the goal of building up a solid understanding of each sprint content over forcing students to meet strict deadlines. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone aiming to break into the industry on the right footing. -

I was looking for a place which would allow me both working at a full-time job and boosting my Data Science career, which I have transferred to after being a Business Analyst for 10+ years. Although, back then, my professional life started with wealth of data analysis, I had been focusing more on entrepreneurship, operations, and regulation throughout my career; thus, at the very beginning, as a Data Science professional I faced plenty of challenges: given how fast the overall industry of Data has been developing for the past 10-15 years, I figured out that I had enough gaps to bridge and that I needed some guidance. I was introduced to Practicum by my ex-colleagues and decided to check it out. I realized eventually that both the Data Analyst and the Data Science courses are packed with state-of-the-art content and overall approach is sprint-based, so I decided to sign up for both of them and make the DS course just after graduating from the DA course. The Practicum community managers navigated me through all the organizational questions, so I could just continue enjoying seamless learning experience, so now I am three months left until my graduation from the Practicum Data Science course.
Now, straight to the point. Beyond the outstanding UI, you can literally feel how much effort was invested in the course content development. With Practicum, you get a very clear roadmap: all the sprints are well structured as collections of short lessons, where the next one builds upon the previous one, while every lessons provides practical exercises, both as part of the theoretical part and when you finish going through the theory. By the way, there are several lessons devoted to developing your soft skills, which impressed me so much: those pieces of wisdom are absolutely invaluable!
Projects are at the center of the learning process; they are the best way to gain valuable hands-on experience, since a thorough code review gently points out the ways you can make your code better; on top of that, tutors encourage you to keep trying additional techniques/alternatives and provide references to upgrade your skills even more. The satisfaction from having a project accepted is comparable only to that from being able to apply the freshly learned skills straightaway to my work.
One important component is the support: 24/7 technical support, tutors answering your questions on Slack, weekly webinars, community managers who are constantly checking in with you to hear whether you are experiencing any issues - you receive support from everywhere, even grader pop up messages are insightful and funny! All in all it makes this journey so comfortable, even that the course is quite a commitment and you have to be ready for late nights and busy weekends)

Yandex's DataScience training program

I’m not new to Yandex Practicum. I tried their Interface Design program a few years ago, but although I didn’t finish it (it wasn’t my thing after all), I really liked the program itself, so I knew that I would come back.
How did I find myself in DataScience?
I changed jobs a year ago, and my new duties included working with spread sheets. I found working with data and formulas exciting, so I started looking for ways to implement this passion. I had heard of data science before, and it sounded too foggy and abstract to me. But at some point (after some research and a few videos on YouTube), I realised that it’s not that complicated, and, more importantly, it is exactly what I would like to do. So I started the DS training program, bearing in mind the thought that it will be just for fun. I said to myself that it would be a good way to spend my free time, a hobby with the potential to become something bigger.
How is it going?
I am in it for six months now, and I cam already say that there is no way back. The further I get — the more interesting it becomes. At the moment I am far more comfortable with Python and Pandas than with my old friends Excel and Google Sheets. I also really like how Yandex has built its learning environment. It feels like I am back at university, but now it is online, and it is also better. After completing the curriculum I am already aiming to take their course on mathematics (for now this one is only available in Russia), because I always wanted to be proficient in this domain. I didn’t see the way I could to this before, but now I believe that it is completely possible.
What’s so special about Practicum?
I feel like they did a really good job in gathering all the best learning tools and cutting off all the unnecessary elements of classic education. In our study process we have:
- The very well written learning text. It is story-like theoretical material that comes in chunks. These chunks are split by interactive illustrations or graphs and short tasks in which you implement what you just learned. This way, you rarely get bored or unfocused, even with tough topics such as statistics. The platform also has a great coding environment, so you can work on your local machine, or completely in the web—whatever you choose.
- Code review is the second one of the best things about this course. Each sprint ends with the course project; each project represents a possible business case (some of which I already encountered in my current job). My code is reviewed by real professionals of the industry. In their comments, they often leave very insightful advice, share tricks, and provide additional materials. Now I love when my work gets commented on.
- Workshops and tutors. In addition to the main material, each week or two there is a workshop. It is like a web seminar, during which one of the tutors shows you how he approaches one of the cases on the topic. This happens online, so you can ask questions right during the process, but each workshop gets recorded so you can watch it later. I personally prefer to watch it later, following and repeating each step on my machine. You can also watch several records on the same topic, but with different tutors. Each of them has his or her own techniques and tricks, so it is also helpful.
- Communications via Slack is a key part of the university-like experience. I can always ask questions or help others in public channels or in private conversations. I also get to share my thoughts, feelings, and achievements with other students from different cohorts. The community manager from my cohort writes to me from time to time, asking how I’m doing, whether I need help, and so on.
Phew. That’s a lot. In the end, I want to say that I wish I had had a school and university experience like this earlier, but I am grateful that I have it now. Of course, there are some places where Practicum could be improved, but i find them to be minor and not worth mentioning, and I know that the team is working on it. I also participated in a new design and features test for the platform. For that I was given with Amazon gift card, which I spend on buying books on machine learning and statistics.
You can reach me via LinkedIn or Telegram and ask questions if you want: search for Wanomir✌️.

I was looking for a way to switch careers and go into the tech industry. After doing some research, I found that the world of Data Science is an area highly in demand. After extensive research of Data Analyst Bootcamps, I decided to pick Practicum by Yandex. The Data Analyst Bootcamp at Practicum is a well structured program that doesn't just teach you the basics and tools of the trade (python, sql, EDA, SDA, etc), but it simulates real work situations. It has taught be to be very self reliant and resourceful when it comes to coding and data analysis. I do like the interactive platform that gives you tasks to solve, and generally you won't be able to move on to the next section before completing the current task. There is also a "sandbox" area that's not required, but it gives you an opportunity to practice your skills further. I also appreciate that they give us projects to complete to add to our github/ resume. It's my understanding that these projects are vital to getting a job after we graduate. I also do appreciate that they set up a Slack Community for each section of the bootcamp you're in. There are tutors available to answer any of your questions if you ever get stuck on a problem, or need help with your project. Their knowledge is very valuable. I like that they often don't give you the answers right away, and it challenges you to think critically about solving the problem. The platform/ course is also constantly being improved, which is very noticeable and helpful in this journey of learning. I would definitely recommend Practicum by Yandex. -

An online bootcamp that prepares it's students for careers in data science.
The bootcamp is fully online with what I think is great UI. There are always experts on hand via slack that will help out as soon as possible. There are also zoom workshop days on the weekends where one of the experts will break down the material learned in the week in an open forum setting. There are also channel managers that are always helping run the organization to its fullest potential.
The bootcamp is broken into sprints which are further broken down into modules. Each sprint is meticulously created to have you learn skills and then build upon those skills repeatedly. The modules further break down those sprints into a more digestible format, each one with mini quizzes at the end so you can implement what you just learned.
There are projects at the end of each sprint which you can display on your Github to create your portfolio. So far this year I have 6 projects in my Github!
Practicum also provides an extensive post-bootcamp career course. This includes but isnt limited to interview prep, resume formation, LinkedIn formatting and portfolio building. Also if you dont find a job in I believe 3 months after you graduate they will provide you with a full refund.
I have about 5 more months in the bootcamp and love it. I would recommend Practicum to any and everyone. -

I am currently a professional in the biotech industry and was looking to make a career shift into a position that would provide more freedom with employment and hopefully would allow me to gain the opportunity to work from home. I specifically chose data science as I felt that it could most closely be applied to my field. I was always interested in learning how to program but I had zero experience before I started the Practicum Data Science Program. The program is very well structured and is well paced for a programming novice such as myself.
The program uses Slack as a community to interact with your colleagues and tutors. I must admit the response time from the tutors were much better in the first half of the program as opposed to the second half. If I ever got stuck during the first half I could post a question and it would usually be answered within an hour. During the second half it sometimes takes until the next day to get an answer. This can sometimes be quite frustrating if you can't figure out the problem in your code and cannot progress any further until you get the help you are looking for. But that can be expected as you are supposed to be able to troubleshoot more on your own as the course progresses.
My favorite aspect of this program is the flexibility that it provides. I have fallen behind schedule a few times since starting the course due to work constraints. However, I have never had an issue discussing the matter with my course manager and then moving to a new cohort. All the staff has been very supportive. I suggested this course to my co-worker as I was getting started and he has joined as well and has also greatly enjoyed the course. I highly recommend this course to any working professional that needs a flexible program to be able to learn on their own schedule.

I am thoroughly enjoying my time at Practicum thus far. The content is quite engaging, and the community support is extremely warm and encouraging.
You can be confident that even if you have little knowledge or no prior experience with web development, you will be taught from the ground up and will receive unwavering support without falling behind.
To begin with, the price is very reasonable when compared to other Bootcamps, and you can pay in installments. They also have the premise that if you do not get hired within six months of graduating, your investment will be returned. This tells me where their focus is.
The program is quite extensive. It covers a wide range of topics, including how to manage your time and resources, developer roles and functions, and an in-depth look at your career path as a developer. Practicum has their own custom platform for reading each lesson and practicing code. It’s quite engaging and well structured.
It’s divided into sections called sprints. Each sprint includes a project that puts your newly acquired knowledge to the test. They are intriguingly difficult, but you are never alone; your tutor is always available to help you when you need it.
Practicum has an online student guide that contains insightful information as well as literally everything you need to know about their program. Study planning, sprint schedules, recordings of live coding webinars and career conferences, extracurriculars such as Apiary, Code Jams, Senior Student Opportunities; student perks, and more.
Deadlines are given for completing each section, and the time allotted is reasonable. When your code is reviewed and passed, you will feel a sense of accomplishment. I must say that the code reviewers are first-rate, and they ensure that your code meets industry standards.
I went into the course thinking I knew enough about CSS and HTML and couldn't wait to get started on the JavaScript portion of the course, but I couldn't have been more wrong. To put it another way, the methodologies taught clarified and reinforced everything I thought I knew.
When it comes to the community, let's be honest: people will be busy at times. However, the practicum community managers have always responded quickly, and the web tutors are always eager to assist. It makes no difference whether they are assigned to your cohort or not. I messaged about 5 Tutors privately at one point, and they all responded within 48 hours. On the same day, one of them had a conference call with me.
It is always difficult to learn new material. The most important takeaway from this Bootcamp is that you can always ask for help if you get stuck. You may be in a cohort where the students are not as engaging, but the staff always ensures that the conversations continue.
Every week, they have something called coworking hours on the Slack channel. Every day, a Web Tutor is assigned to conduct a live conference call to answer any questions. I mean anything, regardless of the sprint or project you're working on. There is also something called Code Jam, which happens a few times a year. You get to work with students from all over the world to build a project. You will also have the opportunity to work on real-world projects with an established tech company before graduating. It is incorporated into the curriculum, but it is entirely optional.
The program is rather lengthy, but it is worthwhile once completed. Those who focus on the negatives are overreaching. Having said that, it's only been four months and I've met every deadline, I'm not burnt out, and I've never been left hanging. I'm learning and having a great time. -

I started with the program a few months ago. So far I can say that I'm a CSS/HTML developer and I'm starting to understand javascript (it's hard!).
I started with the course because I wanted to keep building my side digital business without the need to hire developers.
Practicum interactive platform is really amazing, the small exercises that allow me to learn new stuff step by step give me the confidence to keep working on it. The format of real sprints where you must deliver project code on your own is perfect to keep learning how the real life of an engineer works.
Also, there is a very responsive community on slack that supports any question in minutes (no matter the day of the week you have an issue, always there is someone who helps).
Overall a super good experience so far. Hopefully, I will be able to pass the JS path. I recommend you to check some online free introductory videos to understand the logic behind JS before starting with the Practicum BootCamp. I'm sure it will help you.
Go for it! -

I've been learning software development on my own for some time, however, after about 4 months on the Practicum bootcamp I've realised that doing a few courses and practice projects is no substitute for a well thought out, rigorous course of study with progressively more challenging projects and detailed feedback - which is exactly what Practicum provides.
The course is longer than other bootcamps I've seen (10 months) so I expected a pretty leisurely pace, but this is not the case at all. There is a lot of study material (with practice problems) to cover in each sprint, and then onto a project. At first I thought 2-3 weeks per sprint would be too long, and I'd be left waiting for new material to be released, but now I know I need to be on the ball, finish the studying and get onto the project ASAP. Some of these projects are very challenging, and I've taken up to 40 hours to complete one of them.
In short - this bootcamp is no joke! You need to commit hard to it. The upshot of that is I have learned an amazing amount. By the end of the first 3 months, I realised that given designs and assets for a website, I can build it out. I'm only one month into the JS portion of the bootcamp, but I can already see a similar fluency beginning to develop. This bootcamp is designed to turn you into a job-ready developer and I absolutely believe that's exactly what it does - this is reinforced by the fact that I regularly see posts from recent graduates announcing getting jobs in the industry.
Practicum is awesome, basically. Great value for what it provides, great (and super helpful) tutors. I'm learning new skills that I can actually use, and getting a 'lot' of practice of writing real code in real projects. I would 100% recommend. -

This is a great program of those unfamiliar with the field. If you are new to the field, like myself, you might find yourself spending more time on each 2 week sprint that what they say, but it is time well spent. The curriculum is great. There is solid organization, incremental learning, and you will produce tangible projects that display your learning. The slack forum allows conversations between students and the tutors. Tutors will respond within 24 hours as a rule. Sometimes you will run into technical cliches where the right solution is offered, but the automated grader will not accept it, but that is quickly resolved by reaching out to the tutors who will report it to the technical side.
While I am just starting with the career accelerator portion of the program (optional), I believe that Practicum will help anyone determined to find a good job by helping with resume prep, interview skills, and soft skills. Indeed, during the 9 months the program integrates soft skills with the technical skills so one should feel well prepared for finding an entry level job at graduation.
Initially, the program will guide you every step of the way through the learning materials. As things progress, your tutors will emphasize that you need to start investigating the documentation to find the answers. I believe this mirrors the real world, where your employers will expect you to research things before you ask for help.
Overall, a great program that has given me skills and knowledge. I am very grateful for the opportunity to learn from practicum.

I was blessed to attend Practicum by Yandex with sponsorship from Women Who Code and I'm so glad I joined. I was looking for a program that was affordable, beginner-friendly and allowed me to keep my full-time job and that would be hands-on. There is a trial period where you get to try out the program and create a project to see if it's for you before making a commitment. I love how Practicum's program is project-based and how just a couple of months in I had 2 beautiful projects to add to my portfolio. The curriculum is current, and only teaches / enforces the best practices, preparing you for success from the very beginning. The cohorts are small and diverse. A major plus is there is always someone available to help and answer questions if you need it. The staff/teachers/tutors/leads are great. I would recommend this program to anyone who wants to get started in tech. -

Practicum took me from knowing the basics of html and CSS to an MERN stack developer in 10 months.
Along the way I had a ton of fun, participated in group projects and hackathons, went to talks, worked in sprints, and learned a TON.
their tutors treat you like family.
their community managers and tech support treat you like family.
the classmates that are actually active in chat also treat you like family.
don't be afraid to expand your horizons, if you have the time to commit, you'll come out a STAR. -

I went to the program with no prior background, and I was worried about the fact that the whole course is at Python and I can't print 'hello world', I discovered a convenient and clear platform with explanations examples and practices, 24/7 technical support.
The instructors are excellent attentive patient and professional and available .
sometimes even at 4 AM .
a one-on-one meeting for further questions is available.
The course is intensive professionally and includes a lot of material but the staff were able to convey it in a profound relaxed and good way. -

My experience in Practicum by Yandex's Data Scientist curriculum has been nothing short of an amazing learning experience. I am a busy graduate student and this coding boot camp gives me the ability to learn while being a full-time student in my graduate program. It is a huge commitment, but it has been worth the late nights and seeing the milestones as I go along. Practicum is also great at helping develop your skills beyond learning how to code in Python and Jupyter Notebooks. Throughout the training, they have times to go over soft skills in order to help you understand the ins and outs of working in the tech industry. This is especially helpful for the nervousness of the first week on a new job. They also have a career prep course that is free for the data analyst and the data scientist students to participate in. This course helps students prepare for the grueling interview process. There are so many different aspects that data scientist candidates have to put together for an interview. This includes a GitHub page, portfolio, LinkedIn, and even possibly a website. Practicum by Yandex leads you through this process and answers any and all questions you may have. Overall, my experience has been extremely positive and I know that as I continue to go through the program I will continue to develop my skills both analytically and professionally. -

I just finished the Data Science course of Practicum by Yandex. There is only the final project at the moment. Finally, I feel lucky to have learned a lot of theory and had the opportunity to practice. Concepts with well-chosen examples, tasks after lessons, projects, webinars, Slack channels for support, code readers, tutors, instructors and community managers... When you add also yourself, there seems to be nothing missing. Regular study is the most important thing that I learned, then hard work comes. Congratulations to the Practicum team. -

I have graduated from Practicum by Yandex in web development program. I had basic front-end skills. One day a friend of mine suggested to me Practicum for their advanced web development course. After seeing what skills I can obtain from the course I immediately signed up. I wanted to become an expert in the front-end/web development field, that's why I decided to start learning with Practicum. I was really amazed by the learning process they used for students. All the lessons are made of the most important and useful contents along with a good amount of coding-test sections where I was able to apply the knowledge I obtained from specific lessons. Most amazing part was, after every sprint/topic I got a real life project which was reviewed by an expert to determine if I was doing it properly or not. Reviewer's were really helpful to improve my code efficiency and quality. Going through all the sprints and challenges I was able to gain confidence in my skills. One more thing about Practicum worth mentioning is their support system. Tutors, community manager, and learning support team they all were really helpful. With them I always got my issues solved almost immediately. I really recommend this course to everyone, especially those who want to build a career in web development. -

Wondering why it's the best? And I would say there is no better place to learn not just to code but also to understand the concepts. Coming from a finance and accounting background, I needed something that would accord me both theoretical and practical lessons. I only have a few sprints to finish and can confidently say, I have no regrets since starting. My interest in data science all started at a time when I started my MBA. I decided on a topic that required skills that I didn’t have. All I could tell myself after going through some basics was, I might as well see this through the end. Fast forward, I started looking for a place where a beginner like me would be feel left out. I have enjoyed every moment spent going through this course. From the lessons, working on projects, or interacting with the support team when I encounter problems while coding. And the icing for me is the weekly webinars which provide you with lessons beyond what has been taught on the platform plus the support from the tutors. Even the pop-up comments you get when you submit your work as you go through each lesson cracks you up some things, the feeling that you are not alone in it. The projects to complete after every sprint and be graded on are always challenging but always worth it. And even the reviewer’s comments go beyond just reviewing your code. They provide you with additional information to read on so as to improve your code better at the next sprint. Following these recommendations places you ahead of the curve. -

I bought the intro web development course for $50 and it was absolutely worth the money. It solidified my decision to buy the full course. The staff is super helpful and communicative and the lessons are engaging. I went into it knowing some HTML and CSS basics, but not knowing any JavaScript. My only issue was that the JavaScript portion went a bit fast for me, so it might be a good idea to do a little bit of learning on your own first before buying the full course. However, buying the intro course will give you a great idea of how ready you are for the full course, and I would recommend it to anyone wondering whether the full course would be right for them. -

10 months ago, I started a data science educational program at Practicum by Yandex. By that time, I’ve done several MOOC courses on different platforms, read a bunch of blogs and articles on how to switch to the data science field or become a data scientist. I was lost. There is a huge amount of information and all advices are good. But how do I exactly start? Where do I begin? I needed a direction. I needed a mentor, a tutor, a community. And all this I found in the program. If you know someone who doesn’t know how to start, please feel free to refer them to Yandex Practicum. They will get a very well-structured program, 24/7 support and mentorship, a lot of hands-on experience and 10+ projects to their portfolio. The price is affordable and the quality is outstanding! With this very good beginning my journey continues. -

I was looking for an online bootcamp to further improve my skillset as a visual communicator (a.k.a. a graphic designer but more) and stumbled upon Practicum. Previously, I was looking at another potential online program which charged a crazy amount of money to learn what I'm planning to learn through Practicum--web development. I ultimately went with Practicum because it offers the opportunity to try it out for two weeks (for less than $100) to see if it was the right fit and the price was more reasonable.
I decided to try it out for the two weeks and absolutely enjoyed the lessons. The majority of it is self-taught with opportunities to ask either your mentor or classmates for help on a social networking site called Slack (which is arranged like Facebook groups for businesses). The curriculum doesn't bog you down with lengthy descriptions and is easy to understand. The lessons get straight to the point without unnecessary fluff and then immerses you straight into a lesson which you have the chance to apply what you've learnt.
The mentors are very personable and are there for you for any questions you have about the program and lessons. It is emphasized that you're not alone in this journey through the program and there are people that want to help.
I really love the program so far and it allows me to improve my problem-solving skills when beginning to code. I honestly find it hard to stop going through lessons because I'm having so much fun. I'm looking forward to starting the full program in a couple of weeks! -

I started learning Data Science a year ago through MOOC's like Udemy, Coursera but after completing so many of those program, I was lost when it comes to starting a project. I did not know how to structure my thinking the data science way. I started looking for project based bootcamp that would not cost an arm and a leg. After reviewing various bootcamp in the US, I settled for Practicum by Yandex Data Scientist bootcamp. Firstly because it was cheap and you end up with 15 real life projects. Also, because the first Sprint which was free was so attractive to turn down.
The curriculum is structured like a real tech company where you train on the platform for a week or two and work on a project the next week. After completing the first free sprint, I was hooked. I fell in love with the platform so much that I was coding at any free time I have. If your goal is to learn to code for real, think like a data scientist or analyst, then Practicum by Yandex is for you.
My favorite part of the program is the project and code review. It can also be the annoying part because project review can take two to three cycle with corrections back and forth with your reviewer. At the end when your project is approved, there is that satisfaction that comes from achieving a feat. I love the weekly webinars on different topics in data science and the fact that you can connect with your tutors and peers through a common slack channel. My coding has improved from the live coding section with tutors. I believe that I am truly on my way to becoming a data scientist. I am currently in the 10 sprint but I already have some interviews lined up based on the strength of my portfolio. There is the optional career development at the end of the program for the US market with job guarantee but I haven't gotten there yet to see how good it is but I can tell you, with the strength of what I have done so far, getting a job shouldn't be a problem. -

I already had some basic web development experience before deciding to enroll with Practicum, so I knew I was interested in the field and wanted to pursue a career as a developer.I picked up some beginner level web development skills over the years through self-study and online courses and got into to doing some freelance work, mostly on WordPress sites. However, I knew there were still significant gaps in my knowledge that were holding me back from progressing further as a professional developer. A bootcamp seemed like it would be the most effective way to build my skills quickly and get up to speed. I ended up coming across Practicum by Yandex through a Facebook ad, which I wouldn’t normally pay much attention to, but I checked it out and took the free 20-hour intro course and was impressed with the quality. It was a solid introductory course and gave a good feel for what the learning platform offered. The full curriculum fit what I was looking for, so I went ahead and committed to doing the entire 10-month program. The course is definitely challenging even if you have previous experience. But that challenge is part of what makes it so effective – it requires you to get hands-on and get a good understanding of the material in order to complete the projects. Code review can seem daunting, but it’s actually become one of my favorite aspects of the program and sets it apart from other platforms I’ve tried previously. Practicum has taught me more in the past year than I’ve learned in over a decade of self-study. Just the exposure to other developers and being introduced to so many helpful tools and resources has been life changing. I finally feel that I’m becoming a competent and capable developer. I highly recommend the program if you’re able to the spend the time on it.
Pros:
The course is thorough, they work to maintain up-to-date information throughout the course, so it’s often being updated as you progress through the program. The project-based approach, code reviews, and sprint scheduling immerse you in a real-world working environment rather than a traditional classroom.
Cons:
The platform is almost entirely text with some interactive coding exercises, so if you’re used to video lectures or other teaching styles, this can be challenging. The material is really good, it just might not be a good fit for every learning style. (I found using text-to-speech helped me personally). Depending on the group you’re with, the slack channels and webinars may not be very active.

After looking at a wide variety of online courses, I settled on Practicum, as it's one of the most comprehensive, with great value for money, and also has the option of a 20 hour free introductory course: super helpful for deciding if this is the course or area for you. You can also attend a webinar with tutors and staff from the course to ask questions, and sign up for a one-on-one with an advisor, so there's a lot available to help you decide, but at no point did I feel pressured to make a decision. It felt like the staff really wanted me to make the best choice for me.
The course definitely has a focus on real-world preparation for working as a software developer rather than just focusing solely on hard skill learning. You have sprints, deadlines, pair programming, code reviews by industry professionals, and the tutors are experienced developers. The fact that it's a 10 month course means you are able to cover a lot of ground. Learning starts with front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git, REACT etc) moves to back-end (Node.js, REST API etc), and then brings it all together for the final project. There is optional career coaching and support, with things like mock interviews, application help, and building a LinkedIn and CV.
The platform that you learn on is really easy to use and very interactive. I've found some previous self-study guides to be a bit more dry than I would prefer, but I find the way Practicum presents the material to be quite enjoyable, as they try to keep things light-hearted, with real-world scenarios.
One issue I had with some other courses I tried is that you can feel a bit isolated. Not so with Practicum, the support is phenomenal. There are community managers who oversee all non-academic concerns and are super helpful, friendly, and quick with replies. Tutors are also on hand to help. The community on Slack is great too; there's a lot of opportunity for communication and networking, and it's encouraged to reach out to your community for help and advice.
The fact that it's an online 20 hr/wk course means it's flexible, and although there are set times for webinars etc, they are always recorded so you can watch them later.
The only (small) issue I've had is with code reviewing. Sometimes the review isn't clear, or is saying something that contradicts what you may have been taught, but you can't contact the reviewer. However, you can contact your tutor, who will be able to help.
Through all the research I've done, it was definitely an informed decision to sign up for the web dev course with Practicum, and overall I'm super happy with my experience so far. -

I just made it through the free introductory course. The introductory course is packed with information and is absolutely worth doing it. You are working in an environment created by Practicum, so no setups are required. You only need to know how to open your browser. However, things go rapidly in depth and you are facing challenges at some points. (be sure to check your printouts!) I am a critical person, so I wanted to check their support team as well. You can believe me, I did this quite intensely!! And I was very surprised by always (read: always!) getting an answer to all my questions, in less than a few minutes. That gave me the confidence and the security to sign up for the full course, I felt I was in good hands. Now I´m looking forward to starting the program, which looks high-quality!!!! -

I am currently in the Web Development program at Practicum by Yandex. This is a great program! I have been challenged with every project. I have a background in computer networking, but I did not have any prior programming knowledge. I had been a stay-at-home mom for many years and decided that I wanted to rejoin the workforce but in a new field. I chose Web Development because it would give me the opportunity to work from anywhere in the world and have flexible hours. I came across several boot camps but they did not work with my schedule or were too expensive. I was happy to find that Practicum by Yandex offered a Web Development program that was online and semi-self-paced. When I say “semi-self-paced” I mean that we don’t have a particular time of day to work on our theory or projects. We do in fact have soft and hard deadlines to get theory and projects completed. I am impressed on how Practicum tries to keep up connected even though we are all across the world. We use Slack to interact with our classmates, tutors and administrators. They are always asking our opinion on how we feel about the program what changes can they make. Practicum provides live coding sessions, webinars and so many more opportunities to connect with others who are currently working in Web Development. -

Let's start from the bottom line-
I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to get in to web development world through a fun yet super serious, intense and high quality course.
And that's why:
As someone who has never really coded before, I came in to this adventure with really nothing much to expect.
To see if I can enjoy or even handle this type of course I took the free introductory course Practicum by Yandex offers and I was pleasantly surprised how much entertaining the learning platform is and how I felt "glued" to the screen, wanting to pass more and more lessons and tasks.
Now, the course is separated into sprints. Each lasts two weeks. In these two weeks you go through quite a charming learning process in the platform (including side jokes, visual explanations and reactive pages to see the code you write actually works).
Then there is a project where you implay the knowledge from the lessons.
In between there are webinars with people from the industry about a lot of interesting and important topics for the real tech world,
live zoom meeting with the mentor and teammates to discuss the next project and more..
From my personal experience all the questions/ worries/ uncertainties I had where answered within minutes(!) from the really wonderful staff members. Whether it's the technical support team who will answer your challenging tasks questions or the community managers and mentors in the interacting platform (Slack). There's always someone to answer your question and it seems like they really care from the students' progress and they are eager to see them finish the course successfully.
Plus there are several other channels on Slack where you can communicate with fellow students and share your thoughts, in a very friendly and nice way.
