I highly recommend this program for anyone who in interested in getting started in data science. The program provides participants with an excellent immersive experience of what is expected in data analysis: development of programming skill, project development, teamwork, and statistical analysis. The format is challenging, but like many bootcamp experiences, a strong sense of camaraderie is development between teammates and fellow participants that continues after program completion. The instructors, teaching assistants and mentors are top-notch and provide high-level and both general and project specific skill development. I entered the program as a complete novice and left with important skills that I have transferred to my current position and will soon provide an entry point to an exciting new career. -

Very thankful for the opportunity to go through this program. I learned a lot. I have always wanted to try Data Science but funds and the time to go back to school was a problem. The program is taught but great experienced instructors and i loved the guest speakers and mentors too. This program also links the fellows with employers and the program is 100% free!!! What could be better than this? Very grateful for the experience. -

DS4A is an excellent course to acquire skills in data science, it does not matter if you are a beginner or with previous experience, the course is designed in such a way that those who have no experience start the course with a knowledge base that allows them to tackle the challenges during the development of the program. Although it is an online course, it does not feel like one because it encourages interaction between students and teachers. I highlight the following points:
1. Excellent classes and materials according to current needs
2. Teachers and trained assistants with the best knowledge and skills to teach.
3. End-of-year project that challenges you to apply knowledge in a work team that simulates a real work environment.
4. Additional activities are developed that complement professional training beyond technical skills in data science.
5. First level organization and support with a good system of follow-up and monitoring of students before, during and after the end of the program.
6. Possibility of participating in a diverse community that lasts beyond the course.
I highly recommend DS4A to start a career in data science! -

It depends on how well you score on the placement assessment, whether or not you have to take the Pre-Foundational Python course. If you have to take the Pre-Foundational Python course, it is self-guided. There are videos to help and study groups to keep you on task. I think that the Pre-Foundational Python course needs a few more videos, but you can definitely learn what what is available.
You really get out of the program what you put into it. A lot of the jobs advertised during the program do require some experience. However, there are just as many opportunities if you want to start entry-level/internships. With that being said, apply. Apply. Apply. This program has been life changing for a lot of people. As a result of completing this program, I am taking Anaplan Elevate to become a model builder. This program is where I learned about model building via a couple of the speakers. You get out of the program what you put into the program.
I graduated with honors and I am glad that I kept trying when things got hard. You meet a lot of cool people. You enlarge your network and your data ecosystem. -

DS4A Empowerment changed the way I looked at learning, education and data. This program reinvigorated by love of learning and I am so grateful for the opportunity to participate. We were offered real world case studies and were encouraged and supported the whole way through. The Correlation One team is full of people focused on our success. I was introduced to correlation by a mentee of mine. I applied with little to no expectations because I wasn't really looking to change my job. The program exposed to many aspects of Data Science field, it helped me to learn more statistical models and most importantly it brought me into a community of people that are more than willing to lift you up.
The stories of the people I met during this program was as rich as the program itself and I have become friend with many of them. I highly recommend this program to everybody - young, old and everyone in-between. -

This program was amazing and I would highly recommend to anyone who is interested in data science! It is mostly taught by a Harvard instructor Natesh Pillai, who is an outstanding professor and communicates the most challenging concepts in very easy to grasp terms. You can tell he is very passionate about teaching and wants his students to succeed. Other top-quality professors and students are also involved in teaching the class, passing down their knowledge across various fields of data science. The other outstanding part of the program is access to the internal job network with corporate sponsors and professional development sessions with the sponsors. Class material was very comprehensible and digestible. Team work on a capstone project was also a big part of the program and offered numerous opportunities to practice the skills learned in class. -

If you’re here because you’re considering applying to DS4A Empowerment, stop what you’re doing now and apply! This program is truly life-changing. Never have I ever been surrounded by such a diverse group of individuals who had the same goal in mind...to learn. Upskilling is hard, but learning has become the new currency nowadays. If you want a new job, you’re going to have to show that you’re a continuous learner. What better way to do that than through a free data science program?!
I really enjoyed my time throughout the program. To lay it out there though, it’s definitely a time commitment. It’s the sort of program that you get as much out of it as you put into it. If you start the extended cases a few days before they’re due, you’re not going to learn as much as you would have if you started them weeks before. If you put a ton of effort into the final project, you’ll strengthen your bond with the other fellows around you and will end up with an incredible project at the end of the program. One you can show employers and interviewers and land your dream job!
A little bit more about the structure of the program though...once you’ve decided to apply, you’re going to have to fill out an application. You’ll then be prompted to complete a technical assessment. If you make it past that round, then you’ll move on to a virtual interview that is self-recorded. Don’t fret, this is not a Coded Bias episode, the videos are watched by Correlation One staff. They work tirelessly to recruit the right people into this program. Once you’re in, you’ll be notified of whether or not you need to take 3-4 week the pre-foundational course. It’ll be self-paced but you may have to meet periodically with a project team to work through some of the problems you’re all facing on the assignments. Meetings are mandatory. Make sure you work hard in this portion of the program, because you need to pass the pre-foundational program to make it into the full Empowerment program.
The full Empowerment program consists of various homework assignments in addition to lectures. Some of the assignments are quick review modules that should take no more than a few hours to complete. Some are long, case-like assignments that can take upwards of 2 weeks to complete, depending on how much time you’re dedicating per week. Think of them as mini projects that you’d complete in a work environment. All assignments are in place to hone your skills and prepare you for a real-world job in data.
In addition to the homework assignments, you’ll be working on a capstone project with a team of about 6-7 other people. This project is one that you own, from conception to production. You and your teammates come up with something you’re all passionate about and you’ll use the skills that you learn along the way in the program to solve it and create a final product (i.e. an interactive dashboard).
After 4-ish months of hard work, the program will conclude and you’ll find yourself being able to solve problems that you never thought were possible! All while being contacted by recruiters and hiring managers through the C1 Connect job platform exclusively available to DS4A fellows and alumni! The number of jobs that are available on this platform exceeded my expectations. And a lot of them were posted specifically for DS4A fellows and alums! I got numerous interviews and even made it to the final round for a couple of them before accepting an offer elsewhere.
I’ll close with...the DS4A network is ABSOLUTELY incredible. My current job, as an Insights Analyst at LinkedIn, I found out about through a DS4A alum. While it wasn’t a referral or a posting through C1 Connect, I would not have made it to my dream company had it not been for the DS4A network. I’m so honored to have been a part of this program and cannot wait to see where it takes me. And where it takes you!

The DS4A program is ideal for people interested in learning data analysis and data science with social justice in mind. Traditionally, there is bias in data due to the lack of representation in roles handling data. As a woman of color, the first to graduate college from a low-income family of immigrants, and a former K-12 math educator, this program enables people like me, as well as my peers who identify as young women and people of color to enter STEM fields by improving society within data science.
Curriculum querying big data with SQL, robust linear modeling, building visual dashboards with Google Data Studio, data extraction and transformation, web scraping, and data-driven decision making using Python. -

Being selected to participate in DS4A Colombia was an honor and the overall experience was simply second to none. Data science for all was an enriching, demanding and learning experience. The course is made up of well-designed class material, dedicated tutors and a great teacher (Natesh Pillai) who teaches theoretical concepts in a successful way generating interest in the different topics during several hours of class. After the theoretical classes you have the opportunity to work in a practical way on various class assignments and a final project with a team made up of colleagues. I was involved working with data before, but until then I didn't really do any further analysis with the data we collected thought our process in the company. Data Science for all (which was the one I was enrolled in) allowed me to perform this additional analysis and ask myself the right questions from the business perspective.
Contentwise, the course content are really well designed. It covers both basic and advanced approaches regarding the data science process as a whole. Instructors use a case based learning that really pays off because it covers topics that are both highly related with real life experience (real state, disease propagation, energy stocks, etc.) and makes the student generate insights from the business/high level perspective.
Regarding the instructors, to keep it short, they are amazing! Our professor demonstrated not only to have great subject domain but also proved to be very charismatic and open minded.
To sum up, this is truly a once in a lifetime experience, as this course not only provide the tools to get a better understanding of the world in general from the data science and data analysis perspective but it lets you engage with others like nothing else before. This experience not only changed my point of view about everything I used to know, but allowed to consolidate a network of peers for future work and like-minded companions. -

It was a great experience, from all points of view. Academic, logistical, methodological. I want to highlight three aspects of the DS4A:
1. Having the capacity to see data science as an opportunity to address the challenges that LATAM countries facing.
2. Implementing training strategies focused on real projects/challenges, that integrate areas, instead of separating them into subjects

I was a part of the Fall cohort of Correlation One's DS4A/Empowerment. The environment was uplifting and supportive and inclusive in a way that I've never experienced before. Natesh is an excellent instructor, no wonder he trajes at Harvard! All the TAs were helpful, smart, professional. Overall, the most important thing is that I learned content that I never tight I would be able to learn, and I feel like I have a solid foundation to keep doing practice projects. I wouldn't feel comfortable getting a data analyst job right away, but certainly some of the cohort did! -

My experience with Correlation One's DS4A was a wonderful one, and it motivated me to improve my data skills.
First of all, the instructor: Natesh is an outstanding teacher, leading us to understand the fundamentals of Data Science and communicate insights in layman's terms.
Second, the TA's: they were helpful and demanding at the same time, pushing us to deliver good data products.
Third, the curriculum: it was meticulously planned and executed, although I wished it were a bit more difficult and challenging, but it's my personal opinion, nevertheless.
May I add that this is a course that I would recommend for anyone ranging between a beginner and a full data scientist, being junior data scientists the best fit for it. -

Urban peace index: the foundations

The problem in which I have been working is the current peace-building practice in an urban complex post-agreement setting that does not define peace from bottom-up nor directly measure what peace is. In this scenario, peacebuilding interventions address people in situations of forced displacement, migrants, ex-combatants in a reconciliation process and address coexistence with young people in urban culture groups and gangs in a context of urban violence such as the one present in Cali. Under this context, the city-region perspective is biased by urban interventions that do not include rural perceptions, which generates a poor collective impact of peace-building works, even in rural territories. In this setting, members of the community, institutional and humanitarian actors are affected when evidence of impact is required (i.e. independent evaluations) and when a common vision of "peace" needs to be accounted for collective actions to refine policing when a new actor joins in the current collaboration.
I am evidencing the impact of this program. First, because it changed my practice by adopting a robust analytical approach from cases to learn Python. Every case was built in harmony with coherence for the program. I call this first dimension program architecture.
Second, because the learning journey keeps me motivated through thematic diversity iteration within a sequence. As some thematics iterate, the motivation keeps me on the journey and the analytical approach got deep developed. I call this second dimension analytical empathy.
Finally, because of the essential challenges on a basis of face-to-face exchanges as an opportunity for team building by developing professional networks. I call this third dimension humanized networking.
In conclusion, the impact of this program may be measured in at least three dimensions: the coherence of the program architecture, the diversity of the analytical empathy, and the effectiveness of the humanized networking. For these reasons, I do recommend the Correlation One program DS4A as an exceptional opportunity for building up the foundations of data science for anyone.
Note: I keep working on Pyhton in problems like anomaly detection, clustering, and classification. My motivations are in both personal and professional dimensions. I'm looking to combine the challenge of defining what peace is from the bottom-up in a rural perspective with transforming the practice of peacebuilding by facilitating that citizens to directly measure what peace is. In this context, our innovation is a tool for define, measure, and contrast peacebuilding contributions. Last year I focused on a study of the intersection of transnational and urban crime and violence at three harbor towns at the pacific coast of Colomba.

DS4A - Colombia was an enriching course, in which in a short time a lot was learned about data science, data management, bases in artificial intelligence, etc. The assignments given in the course made it possible to reinforce the topics given in class in the best way. Additionally, the development of the project was a complementary work that allowed me to deepen the topics learned in class. The time required is adequate to have a correct understanding of the issues.
