Careerist

I’m a former educator transitioning to tech. Careerist has been an excellent boot-camp experience for me. My neighbor told me about this company and got a high-paying job ($102k) after doing a course, so I knew it was legitimate! I did the ‘Manual QA’ course which included live online video lessons, quizzes and an in-depth homework task, followed by practical internship opportunities. Having finished the course, I feel really confident that I can do the job I was trained for because of the hands-on experience Careerist provided. The ongoing support provided by Careerist for their graduates to help them successfully interview & land a job is outstanding!!


The Positives: 


·       The expectations about the job market are clearly defined from the start·       Job search process is explained in depth throughout the course·       Lessons are well-structured, new-to-tech friendly and paced appropriately ·       Instructors welcome questions during class time via the chat·       Instructors are very experienced in the industry and willing to share their knowledge·       Learning portal allows you to watch video recordings of your lessons later (in case you missed it, or want to re-watch)·       Lessons cover the most important aspects of the job, the most important industry tools to know, etc. ·       Internships opportunities are both internal (Careerist-led projects) and external (outside companies)·       Student community is friendly, supportive and diverse·       Careerist support responds quickly to questions/requests·       Slack channels available for graduates enable continued peer-support, answers to job interview-related questions, etc.·       Careerist utilizes the combined data of their graduates to provide up-to-date practice ‘Interview Q&A’ documents to help students prepare for job interviews·       Interview preparation document includes many video links to extra lessons so you can continue learning and improving your skills·       Mentors are friendly and provide one-on-one support for writing your resume/LinkedIn profile, practicing mock interviews & follow-up during your job search·       Job Application assistance (special tool in Learning portal to help find jobs from several job boards & help streamline the application process)·       Careerist graduates can attend ongoing weekly Zoom meetings with the CEO to hear success stories, ask their questions, give feedback, refresh interview tips, etc.


The Negatives:


·       The internships allows you to practice the main skills required for the job, but hands-on experience with certain tools is not possible if you don’t have the hardware yourself since you’re learning from your home with what you have. (E.g. if you don’t have a Mac you can’t practice using Xcode hands-on. If you don’t have an Android, you can’t practice ADB/Android Studio, etc.) Note: this is not a problem with Careerist, just the reality of online learning! Careerist does provide video recordings of how these tools are used, however, so you can definitely learn how to do it – but just can’t practice “hands-on”). ·        You need to wait for your mentor to give you the go-ahead before starting the job search – after you pass the course, finish the internships, pass the mock interviews, have your resume/LinkedIn profile looking good, etc. This is a positive for people who like to follow rules/processes (like me), but could be a negative for people who want to do things their own way!

One of my friend recommended Careerist to me.  I took a Manual QA course with them. One of the best decision I made. I wish I had found this earlier. Careerist provides you with a good starting base knowledge to get into the software testing field. Instructors were very experienced, during the classes they always made sure all was well explained.  Mentor was very helpful throughout the whole process of the job search which I appreciate. I was able to enroll in the Manual QA program during a special Black Friday sale.  All of the teachers are experienced QA's who are friendly and pleasant.  This course is the perfect bridge into the tech industry, especially for those without a technological background.  No coding experience is required.  Furthermore, the course includes an internship and externship.  They teach you everything you need to know and the supplemental materials are extremely helpful.   Read less

I did the Manual QA course with Careerist at the end of 2022 I found that all of the course materials were done well and easy to understand. I found that the instructors were very knowledgeable and knew how to simplify concepts so that anyone would understand them. following the course I felt that both the internship and mentor ship were very helpful. I enrolled to Careerist on June of 2022. I completed the course, internship and followed my mentor's guidance to land a job. It took me a little bit longer than what I had expected in the beginning. I came in thinking I would be employed in less than one month, it took me until March of 2023 to get hired. However I must admit that I was not applying to many jobs, in fact I'd go weeks without submitting a single application. However I'd still have recruiters reach out to me consistently and I finally landed a contract gig at Apple (Did not expect this AT ALL). If you're thinking about joining Careerist, I definitely recommend it, however dont join if you think you'll get a job in 2 weeks, while it is possible, it is highly unlikely. I've decided to switch careers from the restaurant industry to the tech field. I feel like this course is very informative as well as simple and easy to understand for someone who doesn't understand IT. After the classes are finished they put you through and internship program where you get hands-on experience with a team. The internship teaches almost everything you need to know about manual QA, they teach you how to use TestRail, JIRA and other tech methods required to test applications. Also they have a great in house build-in job search application which I personally find helpful because job search can be stressful and time consuming. There JAS application searches job for you and also makes it easier to fill out application with auto fill feature. Overall I would suggest this course to anyone who is new to the tech field and want to switch up careers.  Read less

The teachers are very helpful and have great attitude. We had classes 3 times a week in the evening, then internship for 3.5 weeks and mentorship till you are ready for a job search. My friend recommended me this course and I am so glad that I took it . Exited to find my new job !  Read less

Careerist was a game changer for me!  I made the decision that I wanted to change careers after 20 years into IT from healthcare administration.  After doing some research, I came upon Careerist and enrolled in their QA Engineer program.  I completed the course and internship and then began working with my mentor on my resume and interview prep.  The interview prep was top notch as it truly prepared me for the interview process.  I landed my first job in IT within 3 months making over 90K my first year with a company that is truly amazing.  I am now working on becoming a QA Automation Engineer.  The skies the limit! The Manual QA course by Careerist is a really great investment. I have enjoyed the courses very much and found them all highly accurate and informative. The instructors were consistent with one another and each class lead smoothly to the next for a cohesive experience. I took the Careerist Manual QA Bootcamp & it was the best thing I did for my mid-career pivot from tax accounting to tech.  

Pros:
- easy course that can be completed within a short amount of time 
- can view the lesson on your own schedule & pace
- included 2 internships 
- hands-on experience with real companies & daily stand-up meetings
- great feedback from the Leads on your test cases  
- great mentorship, interview prep, resume review, LinkedIn profile review, & follow up 
- can choose a payment plan of 2 installments (recommend) or have them take from your paychecks 

Cons:  
- wished the internships were 1 month each instead of 2 weeks
- wished there was more various hands-on experience like API & mobile 
- wished they had a network of available jobs to assist us with landing our 1st job 
- The job is easy.  Getting the job is hard.  The job market was tough & I sent out around 300+ applications before I landed my first interview.   Read less

I was lucky to graduated from Careerist. This months went really fast. I was enjoying every single class here. All teachers was accommodate and very helpful. I got so much information. All knowledge I received from that school helping me passing interview confident. I just started my search for job and I’m pretty sure I will get my first offer very soon. I took Manual QA bootcamp 2020 and easily changed my job from Retail to IT! My dream to work from home came true! Good instructors, learning plan and learning materials. I, myself was a non-IT person. I even did not have basic knowledge of technology. I have started with Manual QA course at Careerist, and gradually started to understand tech terminology, tech evolution, and skills sets that I need to acquire for a QA job. At Careerist, they have amazing instructors. They also provide many resources from which one can learn and understand the content completely.  I really appreciate the consistent support, guidance, and help I got throughout my journey from the beginning of the course, during internship, interview preparation, and job search. I have extremely wonderful experience with whole Careerist team, especially Lana Levinsohn, Jefferson Montilla, Benjamin, Hanna Olefirenko and of course Max. I am very thankful to all of them for their time and efforts they put for each student. 


Also, I strongly believe that in this continuously changing world, we have to practice and learn things every day. Careerist provides the best knowledge, resources, and help we required for a job. Now it depends on us(students) that how we make best out of it!

The course I attended at Careerist was QA Manual. I didn't have any QA experience before that or a Computer science degree, which it's hard for me to change work industries. Careerists support all the opportunities to help students to learn the skill they need for a Tech job and provided professional mentorship as well as technical skills training and guidance. They also provided internship experience after graduating from the course. It's like a door open for people who don't have years of IT background and help them step by step to land in the right direction. I appreciate all the help and support from my mentor and all the support provided by the knowledgeable team. And I always believe if you put time and effort into something you have passion for, you will get there eventually. From my experience, I can just talk about what has made me enjoy this bootcamp experience. One of the instructors by the name of Farhan, is a blessing and a great employee to Careerist. I had an issue with the time zone, with another demo and mock presentation instructor, and apparently I did not show up, but I did and he said I didn't pass. Now I was told that my time zone would be different from his and I just followed and listened to what was said to me. Now Farhan saw what happened, and decided to reach out to me to support me with this problem and he did. He took it upon himself to do the Demo and Mock interview, with no hesitation, and he wanted to do it for me, and I appreciate it him big time. Just remember that Farhan did the demo and mocked me at his 7am, from where he was, and my 9pm from where I am. He didn't have to do it but he did, and blessings to him and his family, and this guy is definitely for the people, whenever he can support.  Read less

I'm not going to lie, when I signed up for Careerist Manual QA Bootcamp, I was initially skeptical. Not necessarily of the program itself, but I wasn't sure what to make of an IT bootcamp. I kept feeling like this was too good to be true. I was coming from over 15 years of consumer electronics/ sales and I needed to make a change and I was looking for something that will allow me to workin IT without knowing coding, give me the flexibility of working from home and pay me more money to better provide for my family. I am here to say not only did Careerist give me the tools to be successful, but I was able to graduate, land a great job and make more money than I ever have previously with other jobs.
