BrainStation

I took BrainStation's 10-week Web Development (virtual) course in August 2020-October 2020. I'm currently a UX Product Designer and thought it would be great to learn more about how my designs are actually coded and implemented by the team I work with. I had a high-level knowledge of HTML and CSS from my undergrad studies in some Web Design courses but it has been quite a while so many of the concepts while familiar I did feel like I was learning for the first time. I really liked the structure and pace of the course, since we would go over some of the course material but then dive right into coding simple components and working our way up. Both instructors were super knowledgeable and approachable in the online format, I frequently was able to get 1-1 time to answer questions or understand why my code was off. We also had the opportunity to learn about special types of code not included in the course. There was also a ton of flexibility around the final project and everyone in the class had something neat to present at the end. Overall I definitely recommend this course if you're working on digital product design in any capacity or to see if it's something you want to do full-time but don't want to commit to the full-time course just yet.  Read less

I took this course online, it was taken over a 10 week period and I opted to take it Monday evenings from 6:30PM - 9:30PM since I work full time M-F until 5:30-6:00PM most days. I have zero design background, and so was a complete newbie to UX Design. I found the course content really insightful and well-paced, and at the end of each module, they had additional links with extra resources to learn more, I recommend going through this to supplement your knowledge (as it is a lot to learn). I definitely recommend sticking to picking a project topic early, so that you can work on it during the class-work practices and get closer to completing your final project and practice at the same time. I really enjoyed the instructors: Christopher Miller and Andrew Noel, I felt they both complimented each other well and kept the class engaged and lifted up the energy whenever it was needed. I would def take another online course with Brainstation again, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is a total newbie and curious or even someone who knows a bit and wants to get some feedback and better at what they do, they'll get to do that on the final project. I have never done a true online learning course and I really enjoyed Design Thinking from BrainStation.  It was a great deep dive into the topic along with a very practical assignment that carried through the entire 2 Sundays we were in class.  I'm looking forward to brining this knowledge into my next job.  The course content was rich, informative and very well structured for a fully remote learning program. The instructors brought professionalism and great industry insights, and I am grateful for their support and continuous feedback as we worked towards completing our individual projects. The instructors also have office hours that are flexible to the student's needs. 

I would definitely recommend Brainstation to anyone interested in the trainings they offer. I would love to take another course in the future too!

The course is very well planned and curated according to the current industry trends and needs. It covers all aspects of data science and builds a constructive logic and thinking mind working towards problem solving.
It does cover lot of concepts in a short span of time so lot of effort is also required from the studentso(new to data science) , to eagerly learn about new concepts and practice them.
For people who are already familiar with data science concepts, this course will be a good refresher to test your skills. Read less

Great course, learned a lot about Python that I can apply to real-life situations. I believe this course will prepare me for future endeavors. I had an interesting experience with BrainStation while completing the Data Analytics course. The cohort was lively and always engaged with the instructors. The instructors themselves were very easy to approach and happy to provide feedback and were both clearly very excited about their students' learning experience. 

As a full-time professional aiming to further my career I have had a lot of experience with online learning and so I feel confident in saying the experience at BrainStation is unique. The program is geared towards getting the best out of the online sessions and making learning and the instructors as accessible as possible with instructors hours outside of the regular class session and a team of instructors who are always looking to help.

In addition, learning at BrainStation is also an opportunity to network with like-minded professionals and the occasional student looking to make a change in their careers. I signed up for Digital Marketing at BrainStation during the beginning of the pandemic as I was expecting it to be a temporary and in class learning would resume by the time I started. As we know online learning became the only option and I was concerned about missing that in person learning experience, but from the first day BrainStation encouraged networking and fostering a community through fun online activities on slack that feels very much like being on their campus. I learned so much from my Teachers and had amazing professional opportunities to speak to and learn from industry professionals and guest speakers. This class is not for slackers, you have to be ready to work, collaborate, contribute, and learn. There are deadlines and moments that will feel like you've bitten off more than you can handle, but you will always have the support and guidance of teachers who truly are there to help you be the best, using their professional experiences and advice to assist in any way. I met amazing people in my class and in other programs at BrainStation who are now a part of my network which keeps growing thanks to taking this course. For digital marketing I believe this course has equipped me with all of the necessary skills needed to land a position in this field, the teaching style is set up to give you a full view before diving deeper into the details and the technical aspects of Digital Marketing. Looking back I now know that everything I thought I knew about Digital Marketing before this course was only the tip of the iceberg to everything I know now as an Alumni. All of the material related directly to our final project, designing an app or website to solve a problem of our choosing. The pace of the course allowed us to cover a lot of material in just a few hours a week. The instructors were incredibly helpful at explaining topics, providing real world examples, and giving feedback on our projects. It was clear that their goal was to help us create a solid portfolio piece that we were proud of and reflected everything we learned in class.  I took the UX Design Certificate Course in the spring of 2020 and had an absolutely amazing experience. I had just started out my career as a product designer and I would have been completely lost without this course!  I have a background in Graphic Design so the UI came fairly easy to me, but UX is a completely different animal. I never knew there could be so many different facets of design and it was very exciting to see all the different directions I could go as a designer.  Our instructor, Jenna Brucoli, was fantastic. She is incredibly knowledgeable and always had perfect real-life examples to give us to help us better understand the material.  We started our final projects the 2nd or 3rd week of class so that we were continuously practicing what we had learned. The course is very hands-on which is perfect and is the best way to learn or to improve on any new skill. It takes you through the product journey by allowing you to identify new market opportunities by speaking to real users with real problems. Then you take that data and translate it into user personas, create a hypothesis, define the value proposition, develop a go-to-market strategy, create a product roadmap, and finally, create and test an MVP!  By doing so, tt has strengthened my knowledge and skills in Product Management which allowed me to progress in my career.

BrainStation provides a learning platform with exceptionally good content in a seamless online learning experience as it was entirely done remotely; connecting students from all over the world including London, Toronto, France and the States! The BrainStation team are incredible and their passion, support and the work they do, clearly shines through in everything they do! Not to mention the lead instructor, who is a Product Management specialist who taught, mentored and shared his industry knowledge and experiences with us.

Finally, amongst the qualification and knowledge I gained, I also took the opportunity to form connections and friendships with a bunch of amazingly talented individuals! Read less

I had a great experience taking this 10-week Search Engine Marketing course remotely at BrainStation. The class size was small (~10 students) and we had both a lead professor and an assistant professor, so I always felt supported.
I’m already a Sr. Marketer (that focuses primarily on Direct Marketing), so I took SEM to broaden my knowledge within the overall field, and to be able to better understand and communicate with the Performance Digital teams I frequently cross-functionally collaborate with. 
This course was challenging, but in the best way possible. Each week we completed about 2.5 hours of lecture time and ~1 hour of time with a partner (in a Zoom breakout room) to practice what we learned in class. My only feedback would be that I felt the 1:1 partner activity time was a bit too much — I would have preferred more interactive activities with the full group to interact more with the rest of the class.
This course requires focus, dedication, and discipline to truly take in the knowledge and work through the in-class assignments that lead up to the final assignment. I’d recommend this course to Marketers, bloggers, and business owners looking to increase conversions and stay on top of their competition.

Just finished my BrainStation course - Digital Marketing! What an amazing course.  I have learned so much in the last 10 weeks.  It was definitely time well spent.
This was actually my 7th course that I’ve completed with BrainStation.  So far I’ve completed UX Design, UI Design, Web Development, Python, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, and Digital Marketing.  I will definitely be looking at taking more  courses with BrainStation.  
During the Digital Marketing course,  I have had an opportunity to learn how to create an effective digital marketing campaign.  From creating User Personas to Search Engine Optimization (SEO).  From what makes a good website to utilizing Google Ads.  All incredibly valuable content/concepts/tools and taught by two amazing instructors/industry experts.  Plus I had a chance to work  and share with a cohort of fellow students from all types of industries and backgrounds across North America.
What I have enjoyed about each BrainStation course is the opportunity to stretch my knowledge and skills across the digital space. I work in Information Technology  for a Digital Telecom.  Everything I have learned across all 7 courses has been directly relevant and current to the organization I work with.  
Why 7 courses across a broad spectrum of disciplines, you may ask?  I’m an Agile and Lean Coach and Trainer.  I work with all disciplines - from design to engineering to marketing.  Understanding and appreciating the work that people in specific disciplines are engaged with,  allows me to meet students and colleagues where they are in their Agility journey.  Applying Agile and Lean concepts and ways of working can differ depending on the type of work that you’re engaged on.  BrainStation has provided me with the knowledge and skills to support the people that I support.   Thank you BrainStation!
What’s next on my BrainStation learning journey?  Hmmm….so many choices...iOS Development, Search Engine Marketing, Social Media Marketing...so many awesome courses to choose from.

I had a wonderful UX Design course experience with BrainStation, from which I have graduated recently. I took the 10 weeks online course option. This online option worked well for me, especially that I work full time and took some vacations during this last summer. So I had my usual activities during the day and was joining my class later in the evening. I have particularly appreciated how the teachers are engaged in the course. I always got fast responses when I asked for help to complete my project deliverable and the lead instructor shared her personal calendar where we could book a meeting with her to ask our questions if we wanted. During the class we had a lot of exercices that we were doing on the spot to practice the new concepts that we were learning, so the course wasn't focusing on the theoretical aspect only and that's something amazing as I am someone who learns faster when I practice the theory. We had a lot of real life experience and tips from the instructors, which I found really helpful to know. Read less

I recently graduated from the User Experience Design course at Brainstation where I took the 10-week online live option. The course itself went at the perfect pace for someone like myself who works full time. It had the perfect balance of content learning and putting our newly acquired knowledge into practice. The instructors were incredibly passionate, knowledgable, and engaging! They were always a Slack message away from answering any questions I had, including outside of class hours, and I could tell they genuinely wanted us to learn and succeed. The lead instructor used specific examples that she had encountered in her career to further illustrate concepts which I found very helpful. The associate instructor was extremely knowledgable and was the perfect compliment to her leading counterpart.  Read less

 I took the Web Development Diploma course in Spring of 2020. It was such a great course. We had fantastic educators, lots of student support, and overall I found it to be a great experience.  Being full stack we covered a lot of material in a very short amount of time. It was challenging to say the least, but the educators were always available to work with you one on one. It's amazing how much you progress over the twelve weeks.   The tech stack: html, CSS/SCSS and JavaScript for the fundamentals. Then, React.js, a front end javascript library for making web applications (this is really useful for getting a job later on),  and Node.js with Express.js as our server-side programming curriculum. We also covered some intro to MySql and databases, authentication and deployment.(Among other things, but these were the main focus points, imo).  The program is definitely full stack, but I would say leans more towards front end development being that React is a front-end javascript library, and three of the projects (including the capstone) are built using React. However, the server side scripting is also written in javascript, so really as soon as javascript is introduced you are already learning the foundation for creating Node/Express servers, and in two of the main projects you will be implementing a rest API.  Overall I was really happy with the tech stack they taught. It’s great being able to use JavaScript for both server and client side. React, although somewhat difficult to learn at first, is totally worth it and is very in demand for seeking out jobs.   Also learning how to use SCSS proficiently is massively advantageous. You won’t need to use templates for your your UI - in fact you could be making the templates after this program.  I would give BrainStation a 9/10 for course content (just because there’s always room for improvement :)  Beyond the core curriculum, we had the opportunity for Mock interviews and a number of career services workshops throughout the cohort. These were great. The whole staff at BrainStation gets 10/10 from me. I found the mock interview to be so helpful, my interviewer was really insightful and I made a new linked in connection and even got some extra help with tailoring my resume.  Finally, the Educators. I can’t say enough good things about our teacher, Jon. He’s a senior developer with tons of experience/wisdom, and luckily for his students, a great deal of patience. He genuinely cares about each of his students success. Jon was always readily available to work with you one-on-one or to answer questions throughout the lectures, etc. He’s a humble and approachable guy and really made the whole experience something special. Bootcamp is tough so having a knowledgable supportive team backing you up is essential. These people are your friends/family for the twelve-week duration so it’s a lot easier if you have nice caring people who want to see you succeed.  In addition to Jon being awesome we had a team of TA’s who were also exceptionally knowledgable and always ready to help. The support is there, you just have to reach out.  I’ll wrap this up by saying that my experience at BrainStation was definitely worth the time and money - I’m still blown away by how much I learned. The only advice I would give anyone considering bootcamp is to make sure you’re prepared and ask a ton of questions. “Bootcamp” is an appropriate name - just prepare as much as you can because the more energy you put in to the program, the more you will get out of it.  Read less

Good introductory course for UX designers. Limited UI education. 
Instructors were very good and knowledgeable. Iris was very excited about the subject and always showed us examples from her work experience which was very helpful! She also gave good and useful feedback. 
One thing I didn’t like was that we were expected to know how to use the Design tools. As someone who didn’t have previous experience with tech or design - it was difficult and time-consuming. I would suggest BrainStaition implement additional labs where a TA can explain how to use the design tools. Read less
