Avocademy

The bootcamp was great. I really enjoyed how the price point was good and that I learned pretty quickly the ins and outs of design. Also, it being self-paced allowed me to work when convenient. Learning by doing is much more practical than sitting in some lecture for hours anyway. I'm doing Jumpstart as of this review but that has been good so far as well. The only complaint I have is though the mentors were great and incredibly helpful, it was at times very frustrating getting your work reviewed by a different mentor each iteration. I had one person tell me to put one thing only to have the next person not even bother to look at what the other person before me said on my rubric leading to lots of confusion. I felt like there was no standardization when it came to reviewing work at times. Each mentor wanted something different at times and understandably so but I feel like there should be some checklist instead of it feeling like one person giving totally different advice than someone else before. Other than that, I do very much recommend this bootcampq as the pipeline goes from no experience to having a job in half a years time, which isn't bad. Read less

I really enjoyed my time in Career Jumpstart. I definitely feel like I developed a lot as a UX designer and got a good idea of what it is like to work as a UX designer. The fact that you work on real client projects is awesome, and I developed a great portfolio that helped me to get a job. I think the structure of the course is good. They do a lot to make sure you understand what is expected of you, and they also make sure you have the necessary skills before you start working on client projects. The mentors in CJ are wonderful, and they give great guidance on how to stand out to recruiters and write an impressive resume. 

I would not have been able to get into this field if I hadn't signed up for Avocademy, so I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get into UX! Read less

This was a great bootcamp and I could not be happier with the result. I was way too exhausted physically and mentally from my job to be able to learn UX design on my own and it was incredibly helpful to have a curriculum laid out for me to follow. It was also great that everything I learned was directly applicable to real world scenarios and there was no fluff material. There were, however, many links to articles and resources with additional infromation and topics to learn if you were interested. Read less

This is a terrific program. For the cost, the value might be the best out there. I was able to schedule unlimited mentor calls and could reach out for feedback at any point during the bootcamp. There is also a great community, which is super helpful for networking and not feeling alone in the process.

In terms of the curriculum, I feel like I had a solid understanding of the general UX process after the program concluded. I feel much more confident understanding the research process and using tools like Figma. Read less

I recently completed the UX/UI Avocademy foundations course and would recommend it to anyone wanting to build their design tools or transition into the UX/UI field. We worked our way through a project that hit on the ins and outs of research and design with continuous help from mentors along the way. I am now enrolled in the Career Jumpstart program, and am hoping to transition from graphic design/fine arts to UX/UI by the summer with the Avocademy team's help. Would recommend and I think this program just as valuable as any bootcamp out there. Read less

The foundations course was overall a great experience. The mentors are really nice and encouraging and are in your corner. I loved how they give you more than just the answers to your questions, they provide extra tidbits of advice when it comes to the tech industry and best practices in designing. If I were to change one thing I would want more mentors to be available, its very common to schedule a mentor session 5-7 days out before, and its shows why they are booked so often! Be prepared to advocate for yourself and to do some self-learning along the way, sometimes Figma can be finicky but mentors are always there to help! Give yourself grace through this course especially if you're in a full time job like I was.  Read less

I learned so much about UX/UI during this boot camp. I was taking a leap of faith in that I'd even fit in with the design community, however, the instructors and lessons learned will stay with me for a lifetime. I'm excited for what the next chapter of my career is with my new skills. Read less

I was lucky enough to join Avocademy's boot camp and learn about the UI/UX world. The mentoring helped me grow and gain the confidence to switch careers! I later joined their Career Jumpstart program, where I could work on real client projects. Doing this gave me the experience I needed to step into UX. Avocademy feels more like a community of supportive design mentors and colleagues than a bootcamp. Yes you have to work hard and fast and yes you have to have dedication to do well. But, I felt supported and encouraged the whole entire way. I had access to mentors to ask about the work of designers, design tips, and review of my designs throughout the course. The foundations program is a great way to see if you are a good fit for UX without having to commit to a lengthy and expensive bootcamp.  Read less

I completed the Foundations Course and Career Jumpstart with Avocademy. The best part of the program is how accessible everyone is. There is unlimited mentorship and guidance throughout the entire process. The foundations course sets you up for a great basis for career jumpstart. I would highly recommend doing both and following their curriculum. I started the program in April 2022 and got a job December 2022. I was skeptical at first, but the process genuinely works and I couldn't be happier about such a big career switch. This program rocks and you'll be supported through the entire thing.  Read less

Avocademy is a great way to quickly learn and gain design skills. There is a TON to learn about design and this course is structured in a way that the information is not overwhelming. You basically go through the design process as you are learning and create a project with it. There are plenty of resources provided for students to aid with their learning. Something unique about the program is the unlimited mentorship. However, I do suggest hiring mentors with teaching/mentorship experience, or providing a training course for them. Some are great, but some really do not know how to give effective and objective feedback. 

My favorite part of Avocademy is their career jumpstart program. You get to work with a team of designers on projects for real clients and its a great learning experience. Mentors help you with resume, job applications, interview prep, and portfolio. Overall, it's a great atmosphere with a lot of support and motivation. I'm very glad I took the opportunity to learn through this program. I was able to transition for my previous career in a matter of months instead of graduate programs that take years.  Read less

Overall the experience is great! you can work on your timeline when you please, and the learning process is straightforward and easy to comprehend. Most of the time feedback is very timely and all of the mentors are very friendly and are more than happy to point you in the right direction. Read less

The Avocademy Foundations course was an amazing place for me to start. Coming from a healthcare background, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to learn how to work in a whole new industry but Avocademy has made it a piece of cake! The information provided was very digestible and super actionable. You have access to mentors every day of the week, which is such an incredible resource. The assignment revisions/approvals may take a bit of time depending on what it is. However, this can be a non-factor if you schedule 1-on-1s with a mentor in a timely manner, as they are able to revise/approve assignments for you on the spot. Read less

Honestly, Avocademy is exactly what I needed! The mentors are all hands on, its very structured and it really helped me to stay organized and learn in a controlled setting. I completed Foundations of Avocademy in July and jumped right into their CJ program. I enjoyed the curriculum and they did a great job of assigning you real life clients to add substance to your portfolio. The only struggle I really experienced was with team members sometimes not holding their own in the projects. They do a phenomenal job prepping you for job applications, interviews, and negotiation. I landed a job after 28 days of applying. Overall, I would 100% recommend this bootcamp. BUT you must put in the extra work yourself too. They give you the tools and you must put in the additional hard work to make yourself and your portfolio. stand out to companies hiring! Read less

Throughout Avocademy's Career Jumpstart program, I was offered a plethora of opportunities that aided me in landing my first job as a UX designer. I was able to work on real client projects in teams, which taught me a lot about how to collaborate and derive accessible design solutions for actual users. I was also offered unlimited mentorship, ranging from design challenge reviews to mock interview prep. Avocademy foundations and Career Jumpstart has been life altering! I was extremely unhappy in my field and came across Avocademy. The bootcamp is extremely comprehensive with so much mentorship help from designers themselves. Once I graduated from the boot camp, I was able to join their agency to get real client experience and continually learn about UX Design. I received even more mentorship with how to work with clients and do design handoffs, resume writing help as well as job searching help. I started taking Avocademy's UX/UI Foundations course at the end of 2021 as I was interested in changing careers into UX/UI without paying ridiculously high prices for a course. After I looked at other reviews and reached out to the founder, I thought it would be a good fit and it was! You're able to work at your own pace and you have unlimited access to mentors. By the end of your foundations course, you'll have a portfolio with your own case study. They also have another course that you can choose to join called Career Jumpstart after doing their foundations course where you work with real clients on real projects. While in the Career Jumpstart course, the team and mentors help you apply to jobs and give great advice and encouragement throughout the process. Read less
