I carefully researched my options for a UX/UI Bootcamp that was credible and part-time and decided on the Trilogy/University of Oregon. The program is very professional and well run. I can't say enough good about the people. The instructor, teaching assistants, and tutors are approachable and knowledgeable.
Some insight I would offer is that one of the most complex parts was learning how to use the tools. Because I had no background in design, the tools were utterly new to me. If I were to do it over again, I would take time to get a jump start and learn the basics of Figma before starting the program. In terms of time commitment, it would have been nearly impossible for me to complete the program while working full-time. I easily spent 20 hours a week on homework alone. Another thing to note is that office hours are 30 minutes before and after every class. They are beneficial, and I attended most of them to ask questions and get help.
My goal was to get the most out of the program, and one thing that was a struggle for me was that I would have liked more support. Office hours are great, but when there are 15 people all waiting to get their questions answered in 30 minutes, there is rarely enough time for everyone. Tutoring is offered once weekly for 45 minutes; if you're struggling, you can request an additional session. I could have easily had 2 - 3 hour weekly sessions because of my many questions. This was not a struggle for everyone in my cohort, but I had A LOT of questions since everything was new to me.
Overall, I would choose the same program if I were to do it all over again. I hope this review gives additional insight to prospective students. With dedication and hard work, you can do this! - 6Reviews2CoursesFramingham State University offers a 20-week, part-time coding certificate and data science bootcamp located near Boston, Massachusetts. The teachers work in the industry and are able to speak to what you would be required to learn and do in that field. All material taught is relevant to what the industry calls for and is a great starting point for a Web Development career and all paths you can take with it.
The staff is 100% committed to your success and they go above and beyond to make sure that success happens! After-program career support connected me with tons of resources and got my resume and cover letter seen by real people, who are industry connections of the program. Despite the troubles COVID caused with hiring, they never stopped being active in my job search. There was always someone available to help me with networking contacts, resume and cover letter creation, or as a sounding board to bounce ideas off of. It's nice to have someone on your side.
Once the lockdowns eased and companies were feeling more comfortable, I was in a position to be hired immediately! I learned tons, and the teachers were excellent. The coursebooks are such a valuable tool to use with my projects, and being able to take additional classes live online makes it easy to keep learning. I was able to code a WordPress theme from scratch with what I learned form the WordPress.org class, and was even asked to speak at this past summer's Wordcamp NYC. The instructors know their stuff, and really make learning fun. Nothing is rushed, and they take time to answer all questions. And having the option to re-take a class is also great. These courses were a very worthwhile investment - would recommend to anyone.

What sealed the deal was the 50% tuition rate offered, which cut the price from what felt like an outrageous $12.5k to a much more reasonable $6k. I was out of work (at the start of the course) due to the pandemic so it felt like a good time to jump in.
The course begins with an entry math quiz, which was reasonably difficult. It included things like linear algebra, high-level calculus, and advanced statistics. I had never taken linear algebra before but was able to learn quite a bit with Khan Academy. You don't need a perfect score on this entry quiz, but you do need to score around 80% to my recollection.
The course begins with a month-long Python coding bootcamp. This portion is technically ungraded and you can totally skip it if you have a good background in Python. All the learning occurs on the DataCamp platform while homeworks are completed in Jupyter notebooks. There is a final Jupyter project for this Python coding section which IS graded.
The rest of the course is split into 10 modules. Each module consists of two weeks. The first week consists of recorded lectures, some required textbook reading, a one-hour live office hour, forum discussions, and a coding assignment. The second week typically consists of math-based video lectures, a math quiz or two, and a live coding assignment done together as a class and then finished/submitted on your own. The modules are as follows: Practical Applications of Analytics, Data Structures and Plotting, Introduction to Statistics and Probabilities, Linear OLS Models, Linear Regressions Interactions and Transformations, Logistic Regression and Applying GLM, Data Visualization Strategies, Experimental Design/Causal Research/Targeting Analysis, Machine Learning and the final module is the final project. I found all the modules to be very valuable and a good mix of new challenges/repetition.
The final project basically consists of identifying a potential business problem, curating an applicable dataset, and applying machine learning techniques to attempt to solve the problem. You will use Python and relevant ML libraries (mainly sklearn, but others can be used). The trick to the final project is finding something relatively novel that is also doable. There was a broad range of success/failures among my cohorts' final projects. Some people picked things that were too simple and were basically considered mainstay ML problems (ex. identifying mushrooms/flowers based on measurements) while others picked ML problems that were way too big in scope or ill-defined.
The course is also jam-packed with career-oriented learning opportunities. There are multiple sessions with career coaches and assigned mentors, both group and one-on-ones. Be sure to take full-advantage of these, especially if you are planning on breaking into a new data science role.
Expectations:
Expect to spend at least 13 hours a week on this course. I'm definitely not a slow-learner and I felt 13 hours was my average. Expect to spend even more time if you have any foundational knowledge deficits such as calculus or statistics.
Do not expect to become a pro after just this course. It will give you all the necessary skills and knowledge to further your data science journey, but there is much more to do after. I cannot speak to whether it provides everything needed to become competitive for entry-level data science jobs, but I imagine it does, especially at the larger firms like Amazon, AirBnB, etc.
The things I didn't like:
I wish we had more access to actual Dartmouth faculty members. The only actual Dartmouth faculty member you will see will be in the pre-recorded lectures. All live interactions occur with an Emeritus employee. He does a fantastic job, but you can tell he is teaching multiple courses at once. Don't expect office hours to last more than the allotted hour.
Secondly, I was a little disappointed in the range of knowledge/skills among course participants. It felt like far too much time was dedicated to subjects/knowledge that was included in the entry quiz. What's the point of the entry quiz if we're going to end up going over most of that stuff anyway? It just kind of felt like wasted time and I wasn't getting my full moneys worth reviewing stuff that I felt was foundational.
Third, I wish we had spent a lot more time on machine learning as opposed to the more basic stuff. Again, basic statistics were tested for in the entry quiz. Sure it was nice to learn how to code linear regressions in Python, but the meat and potatoes should have been ML. After all, you really only spend two weeks on the ML stuff and it felt rushed since there is so much to learn in the ML world.
Similarly, I wish we had done the ML stuff earlier in the course or at least touched on it more frequently throughout the course. Ultimately, your entire final project is based on ML. But it's a little annoying to be expected to come up with a final project when you don't even really understand the capabilities of ML, to begin with. I know I felt a little lost and in the dark.
Overall, I highly recommend this course to anyone interested in data science. - 4Reviews2CoursesTulsa Community College Boot Camps is a non-credit tech training provider offering part-time, live online, 24-week courses in data analytics and cybersecurit... Full Review:
There are a couple programs out there that might help cover tuition if you qualify and the school offers reasonable financing options. I had spoken to one of their recruiters before signing up and was able to work out options best suited to my financial situation with their senior leadership. They have some information about their financing options on their website, but if the cost of tuition is the only hurdle you see then be open with them and talk it out. They absolutely want to help people who honestly wish to help themselves.
Skillspire is a small institution focused on getting people into the tech industry. Their size allows them to help you in the right capacity needed for your situation. They have more freedom to accommodate their students on a personal basis.
Are you a nervous test taker or stress over due dates? NO WORRIES HERE! You won't take a single exam and due dates are very flexible. The course was designed to be no stress/low pressure for the students. The grading structure is very relaxed as well. Turn in your assignment and get the points.
Concerned you won't be able to find the time to participate?
I live on the East Coast and they're based in Seattle, WA. That's a 3 hour time difference. Wednesday classes were late for my time zone but if I couldn't make it to class the instructor sent a link to the recording of the class. They're understanding and lenient on attendance.
You will not pass/fail based on attendance or grades. You are responsible for learning the material just like any other learning institution but they will pull all the stops to make sure you can learn what they're teaching. You get out of this course exactly what you put in. When I went through the course we didn't have our first official homework assignment until just before half way through the 20 weeks. Personally I recommend using an additional resource to practice what you learn between classes. I was brand new to all the material and I felt I needed it and the extra practice helped.
Worried you're computer skills are outdated?
For me, I was a fairly new to programming and didn't have a language I already knew. I had dabbled in C++ in the early 2000's and I liked it. I can't say I put much effort in staying current in tech since that time. When I was looking into this course I wasn't even familiar with Window OS's post Windows XP. I used computers at work that ran Windows 7 - 10 but I only used them for very basic tasks. Upon signing up for the course I had to get myself a proper laptop but I was definitely overdue. ; )
My point is, I barely had a hobby remotely related to tech before I took this course and I didn't struggle due to that. I had played around with some Linux distros on an ARM device (Raspberry Pi 3B+) I purchased on a whim a few years ago but it wasn't even operational when I committed myself to taking the course. I was absolutely a novice.
I just recently finished the course and I'm excited to see where I end up from here.- 4Reviews1CourseNewton School is an India-based tech training provider offering a 14-week, part-time, live online data science & AI certificate course. Working for a tech startup without much exposure to either disciplines, I found both courses so incredibly helpful in learning more about the foundation and frameworks for each one. The Cybersecurity course added immediate value to my role at work and even my personal life. It had me do a lot of self reflection. The Machine Learning course was little more challenging, and there were many foreign topics that I never even knew existed. It made me really appreciate the hard work my colleagues do but also have a better understanding of the work they're presenting to our team.- 3Reviews4CoursesChico State, Professional & Continuing Education offers non-credit online bootcamps: Cloud Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data Science & Analytics, and ...
