    Software Developer

The Startup Institute did its job. When I left two months after beginning I was hired by an alum as a software developer. I have been employed in this capacity ever since. I leaned some software development, and more importantly I learned the soft skills required to feel comfortable and excell in a start-up / any technical agile environment. I learned enough technical skills. The focus was not really on learning only programming. At the time I found this a tad disconcerting, but the fact i...

    Great Experience

Startup Institute was a great experience that really helped kickstart my web development career.  I would say it's biggest strength is the network you form during and after the class.  You make connetions with great peers, as well as great people in the industry.  The instructors are mostly people who are currently working in real development jobs, so you get very relevant advice. For me, the biggest weakness is that the cirriculum, at the time I was there at least, was not so good at help...

Former student - Startup Institute Boston

Startup Institute has been by far one of the best educational experiences of my life. I was worried at the beginning that my fellow classmates and I would be competing over limited resources (job opportunites in the city), it was quite the opposite. The phenomenon that occured was actually very intentional, a support community was created, a "family" --- sounds too good to be true right? But it is true, once you are in Startup Institute, you are in a family, with experienced parents who wa...

    Startup Institute

Startup Institute's 8-week intensive learning program allowed me to easily secure a job with a company I love and contribute right away. More importantly, though, they created an opportunity for me to build out an incredible network of mentors and influential individuals that I will be able to leverage the rest of my life.

    Go for it!

Startup Institute transformed my career! Not only was I able to break into an entirely new sector, now I have the flexibility to work in remote positions in tech that I never would have had. And the network of students, instructors and company founders really can't be beat.

    Great intro to startup culture

Startup Institute was a great experience that has helped me build both hard and soft skills. While it was a good coding bootcamp for Ruby on Rails, it had many other benefits to make you a well rounded startup employee. SI focuses on soft skills that give you the emotional intelligence to thrive in a startup environment. I took away new open source coding skills from the Web development track, but as an employee that sits between business and technology, I was able to customize my learning a...

Life's too short to have a boring job!

SI isn't about just learning a bunch of hard skills, then trying to find a job—any job based on those hard skills alone. You’re asked to not just consider a job after Startup Institute, but a career, and then are provided with a network to jump-start that career—one that you care about. 3 years later I'm still at my job that I landed after SI and am happier than ever.

    Great coursework, people and opportunities

When I moved back to NYC from San Francisco the Startup Institute provided me an opportunity to integrate myself into the east coast startup scene. It offered a great curriculum in the technical marketing track which I pursued to boost my marketing skill set and introduced me to a network of like minded and talented individuals. Although my life pre SI was in the startup world, post SI I have since taken a job working in Higher Ed as the head of digital marketing for a private university i...

Truly Valuable Experience at Startup Institute

I attended Startup Institute in Boston as part of the Web Design track- There are 4 focus areas: Web Design, Web Development, Sales, and Digital Marketing.   I would not have the amazing job that I have today, if not for Startup Institute. You gain the skills and street smarts to work in the startup world, and an amazingly supportive and strong network of alumni, who will be there for advise and building connections.

Highly recommend the Startup Institute for the quality of instr...

    Best career choice I've made

I attended Startup Institute to make a career change. It was terrifying to quit a solid job, but I took the risk. Along the way I expanded my network, learned important skills I'm still using today, and ended up in a great job. My salary and job satisfaction are both at the highest they've ever been. Can't recommend it enough, for anyone looking to make a career change. So worth the risk!

    Fine when cheaper

The community is great but the curriculum is basically a joke. Spending a couple weeks to read blog posts and do some practice would be much more effective. The network is the most powerful aspect, although that is still limited. As they've grown and accepted more and more, the reputation among employers has dropped. They should keep it much more selective and maybe do one class per year. They are selling the startup dream hard and there is a lot of kool-aid drinking.

How do you get a job after coding bootcamp if you have no relevant, real-world work experience? Only 1.4% of bootcampers have worked as developers in the past, but most career-changers have little if any client experience when they start looking for a developer job. Some bootcamps help students overcome this hurdle by offering opportunities to work for the bootcamp itself, or with real clients through projects, internships, and apprenticeships. These opportunities can ...
