Great investment! Begin Sabio's Odyssey Now!!!

Hi,
My name is Anna and this is my Sabio story:
Ever since I was young, I was told that I was to go to medical school and become a doctor. When you are told to do something so many times, you begin to think that that is what you want too. It wasn't until last year, that I figured out that medical school was not for me. Coming to that decision was very difficult for me to tell my parents, and even harder for them to accept. However, I knew it was the right decision for me.
Long story short, I was talking to a developer friend and after deciding that this was what I wanted to do, he gave me tips to start learning on my own. But very quickly I realized that I would more help than that. So I began my research into coding boot camps. I checked many different boot camps and went to info sessions. Sabio was the last boot camp info sessions I went to (save the best for last, I guess).
I was very impressed with their curriculum and their approach to learning, which was very different than the typical boot camp. What sold me was that I would get to work on a real project for a real start-up company and get real-world experience. No other boot camps came close to delivering this unique experience.
Eager to start, I joined their 6-week pre-work in Irvine. There we learned the basics (HTML, CSS, Javascript) along with some C# and SQL. Make sure you do the "homework" and pay attention in class because this is going to be the foundation of the rest of Sabio.
It might seem like a long time now, but the 3 months that you are in Sabio will fly by. I was so blessed to have the classmates and instructors that I had, because we had a blast (C28!!!). The instructors are very skillful, caring, and patient. I felt confident that all my questions were answered in a way that was tailored to me. Not everyone learns the same way and my instructor definitely knew how to teach in a way that was easy for me to understand. Make sure to put in the time!! When they say 70 hours a week, they are not joking around. Put in the time now and you will be greatly rewarded. No matter what, trust in the system. Rely on your classmates and instructors during the 3 months. They are there for you through thick and thin. They become your second family.
And so, a week before graduation, I turned down my first offer and a week later accepted my first programming job. Although I had my doubts, once I got that acceptance letter, I knew that I made the right choice. Right now, I am working as a Jr C# Developer, and I am so happy with how Sabio changed my life for the better. On the event that you need help at work, your Sabio fam is there to answer any questions you have(you have access to it for 5 years!!). New to the tech world, but not unarmed, I am ready to expand my horizons and conquer the industry!

A good choice

Sabio is great. Like all the other reviews say. I was skeptical going in, but I start my job as a software engineer next Monday making $15k more than before (coming from finance/writing background). So the proof is in the pudding. That said, it's not a magic potion. They provide support, motivation, tools, community, resources. It's up to you to bust your ass and get the knowledge you need. This is not a diet pill, this is not a psychic hotline, this requires discipline and (if you're doing it right) it should be super hard.
Highlights:
-My instructors, John Darragh and Jitin (and Vic Campos) are the best and they know their stuff.
-Gregorio's no bullshit style sets the tone for the whole organization and if you're taking notes, you'll leave the program a more effective, honest communicator.
-Training in the .NET stack
-Prework through Antioch was kind of a mess but Gregorio was responsive to any/all of my concerns.
-The actual text and video training materials are unpolished but the content is solid.
-You're not just pushed through and thrown out. If you value your membership in the community, you will get value in return.
-It doesn't try to wow you with life-sized jenga or beer pong (this is a plus).
-Diversity is a priority.
-The instructors are real-life professionals and want to see you succeed (full disclosure: the *prework* instructors sometimes are Sabio grads, but they're good).
-More disclosure - Antioch credits, as far as I can tell, aren't going to count as coursework toward a CS degree elsewhere (universities want you to take their courses).Sabio isn't a "slick" place, but in my book that's a good thing. It's just a few people working extremely hard (like to an unhealthy degree) to provide the highest quality training available.
Why not full stars? Because like most things in the world, there's room for improvement. Like I said the actual training materials need polish, some safeguards need to be put in place to prevent potential instructor burnout, class size tends to flex above target numbers, and overall organization (scheduling, communications, structure) could be more efficient (and should be focused on ahead of growth). That said doing this was probably the best decision I've ever made.

I finished Sabio's .NET program in Feb 2017 and it has been one of the best decisions that I have made. I spent my first two years out of college working a job that I did not enjoy and I decided to learn how to code. I first learned of Sabio through Course Report and I was impressed by the consistent positive reviews from past Alumni. After looking into other programs and going to two Sabio info sessions, I decided to enroll in the pre work course that would prep me for the bootcamp.
The pre work course work was very helpful, they really make sure that you learn the basics before starting the 12 week program. The staff was very supportive and I was able to pick up the material with their help. Building a web application for an actual business gives your resume a boost and increases your chances of employment. Gregorio and Lilianna provide support and make sure that you are well prepared for your job search/ interviews. They are very invested in the Sabio community and reach out to alumni after the program + host meetups/ events.
I know it might seem impossible to learn the coursework in a short time frame, but if you trust the system it will be very rewarding. It took me 20 days, after finishing up the program, to land a full time developer position. I just wrapped up my third week at work and the material that I learned at Sabio has all been applicable to my current position. I would recommend Sabio to anyone who wants to learn how to code. -

If you have the dedication to learn how to program, Sabio will provide everything else necessary to make you a hirable tech professional.
Key points regarding my experience and all you need to know about Sabio:
1) I had no technical experience prior to Sabio ... I didn't even know what a div was.
2) The entire process of choosing Sabio, doing the prework, battling through the cohort, job hunting and starting at my new job was about 6 months.
3) Sabio provides help through the entire process. Gregorio, Lilliana, and all the instructors have your back. They know what it takes to get hired and make sure you are on track for success. You really start feeling the Sabio fam vibe when you are enter the second half of your cohort.
4) I felt challenged 100% of the time. I was always stressed, confused, and baffled by code but that's the name of the game when it comes to programming.
5) I applied for hundreds of jobs and within 3 weeks of ending the cohort I received a full time offer (75k) working as a web developer for a popular television broadcasting company in New York.
The Sabio process works. If you are ready for a new career in tech, Sabio is a safe bet.

My situation and sentiments are pretty much a composite of the 100+ (positive) reviews posted on here before mine but certain parallels are worth repeating. For one, my concern that Sabio was the right boot-camp to help me transition into a career as a working developer. Second, for me it was a gut wrenching decision to drop out of the workforce losing months of income. I’m still not sure how other people are able to afford the time because it took a lucky combination of things aligning themselves just right and me wanting it bad enough to make it happen. And on top of all that I was going to have to spend a very sizeable wad on the gamble that this investment would pay off. Sure enough it did.
Before considering taking the plunge into a boot-camp I romanced the idea of a free online open source web development education to become a professional developer. Free online resources are plentiful and helpful. Using them I took significant steps in my level of understanding programing and web development concepts relative to where I started. The available open-source education materials although great were not enough to truly connect the dots for me in preparing for a job in coding or give me a true working comprehension of full stack development. In fact, you will still find it necessary to constantly reference online resources over and over even as a working developer. No doubt it’s possible to achieve a free open source education but it’s extremely unlikely that you will be able to do so in the amount of time it takes to get though Sabio. Doing it on your own would probably take a couple of years at best and with no supportive network to show for it.
Obviously, there is no guarantee that you will find employment but your chances are great. There are intangibles you will get out of Sabio beyond just learning to code that are necessary to become a professional developer. Through it all I was challenged and pushed to dig deep within myself to not only to make it through the boot-camp but to get the most out of it that I possibly could and I loved it all. Sabio reinforces a practice of coding cleanly, working amongst peers with a minimum level of professionalism, resume building and interview prep. By the time you start applying for jobs you’ll be coding with the kind of confidence that will dictate a great amount of worth in the market place.
The Sabio community that Gregorio and Liliana have cultivated is an invaluable support structure to not only help you get to that first rung on the latter but to keep you connected, curious and inspired to achievement more. I cannot believe how fortunate I was to find this special organization and how it has led me to a rewarding career that also excites me.

I found Sabio from this coursereport website when I was looking for a bootcamp.
I went to the info sessions of two other bootcamps.
I chose Sabio because you get to work on a real project. Not student projects.
This will make a huge difference when you apply for a job.
Sabio teaches you evertyhing you need to land a job.
You will be coding over 60+ hours a week. The program is intense.
Not because it is hard, but because you need to code for long hours everyday. If you do exactly what they ask you to do, you will be ready to get a job.
Don't worry about what other people is working on.
I thought that I was missing out something important. But that was not the case.
You will work on a number of features of the real website development.
And, you will get full stack experience from front-end to back-end.
Don't get stuck on anything for more than two hours.
Put youself in the queue and ask the instructor.
I wasted a lof of time trying to do it myself. I thought I wanted to be independent.
But you don't get to learn a lot that way. You don't get to work on a lot of features.
You need to work on as many features as possible to show your skill set during the job interview. They help you build the well-formatted resumes. A couple of my interviewers really liked it.
Those companies were the ones that gave me the offers.
They prepare you well with interview questions.
They do a few mock interviews with you which include whiteboard interviews.
They go over a few sample codes which may show up in the interviews.
They bring in Sabio graduates to share their experiences.
After you land a job, you get 5 years of professional support from Sabio.
So, you are not alone at your workplace. I plan to use this support well in my real job.My job search began two weeks before the graduation.
During the two weeks, I did a lot of phone interviews and went to a in-person interview.
At fisrt, I was scared to taking phone calls and goint to interviews.
Gradully, I became better and better at being interviewed by companies.
Within a week after the graduation, I got a job offer.
Two days later, I got another better offer and closer to home. I accepted the second one.
Thank you, Sabio, my instructors and my Cohort! -

I found the Sabio program when I was looking for bootcamps that accept the Gi Bill. At the time, there was only 2 schools that accept the Gi Bill. Sabio was a choice I selected because it was located in Los Angeles and it had the best reviews on course report.
Overall Experiece:
The program is designed to get you a job. Sabio teaches you evertyhing you need to learn in order to land your successful first job. You will be challenged in so many ways. You will learn a lot because nothing can replace this fully immersive experience.
Instructors:
The staff treats everyone with respect. All the instuctors bring a unique and positive experience to the campus. Sabio treated us like we were at a birthday party. I mean we had like 4-5 pizza parties throughout the bootcamp. Even our own instructors bought donuts and pizza for all of us.
Curriculum:
The program is designed to be intense. You will be coding over 60+ hours a week, in fact, you might be dreaming of code while you sleep. You cannot get complacent. You need to be dedicated, determined and the desire to win.
Job Assistance:
Sabio will build a perfect resume for you. They also, provide you with industry tips and tricks for job opportunities. They also have a huge network in tech space. For example, I got my first job after finishing Sabio in a week. -

Worth It

"So what's the catch?"
"There is no catch. You'll have to put in all the time and effort. You'll work for it, trust me"
That's what Aaron said to me the first time I went in for an info session. I was just like you, looking at course reports to see which bootcamp was right for me. I didn't know if it was worth it, I was skeptical of a school that had almost 100% positive ratings (ironic I know) but $15000 was a lot of money to ask for. But in the end, I saw that Sabio was different from the rest of the other coding bootcamps. They teach you real, enterprise level programming skills. You also work for a real client on a real application. There is no BS here. You are getting real work experience because Sabio does it by the book.
Again, there is nothing given here. Everything you do must be earned. If you do not show up and give it your 100% you will not gain anything. This is all or nothing, 3 month sprint that gets you up and ready to go out and apply for a job. I was scared they wouldn't deliver about half way through, thinking it was all scam and thought I had wasted my money until this past week where I got my offer. Look, these guys have been in the business for 10+ years and they really know what they're talking about. When they tell you to do something, just do it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If you trust the process and give it your all, you will see results. I landed a job out in LA after applying for 2 weeks and I'll be starting next week. It honestly has not hit me yet but I can tell you that I see why Sabio is the best rated bootcamp in Southern California (soon to be Seattle).
I thanked Gregorio for all his hard for after I got my offer and you know what he said to me? Not, "you're welcome for Sabio!". Nope. He said "you are a product of your own hard work". This man is definition of humble and would not take any credit for success he had a huge part in. Thank you Aaron and Varr for answering all our dumb questions and taking us through this crazy journey. And thank you Sabio for changing my life. I hope this was helpful and if you are thinking about getting into programming via bootcamp, you cannot do wrong with Sabio. Good luck.

After doing much research and attending info sessions, I finally decided on Sabio! I went in for an info session on a Wednesday evening and I was surprised to see Gregorio the CTO and Co-Finder of Sabio there to speak to us. I was definetley expecting a recent graduate like other bootcamps. After hearing him speak to us and answer our questions with so much passion and straightforwardness, I knew I was signing up with Sabio!
I had no computer science or coding background knowledge at all. Sabio provides prework courses to get you up to speed with the basics for the 12 week program. I found the prework classes very helpful. After 2 months of prework on Wednesday and Thursday nights I felt more confident and prepared for the program.
As for the program itself, go all in! It's a bootcamp, so it's intense. There will be a lot of debugging and time spent on google and stackoverflow but you are learning so much even when you think you are not. Once you've exhausted your options, get in qeue and your very knowledegable instructor will give you the bit of info you need and point you in the right direction to find the answer you've been looking for.
The community at Sabio is second to none. Six months after graduation and employed, I still get emails/slack from Liliana and Gregorio asking how things are going. I know they are there if I need them.
All in all, I definetley recommend Sabio! It was a life changing decesion, and I'm glad I made it. Those long days coding will pay off!

A REAL Real World Experience

I'm sure if you are reading this, you were in a similar position that I was in 6-7 months ago. Either unemployed, or working somewhere you were unhappy. At this point, I am unimaginably and immensely thankful for the opportunity I was provided with at Sabio. Before further elaborating on my experience, I recommend to all of you to do your RESEARCH. Make the decision yourself. Most reviews on this site are positive reviews for the bootcamp that a person may have come out from because most experiences were positive. I didn't go to any other bootcamps, so I have no real comparison to delve into. However, I did do my own research and I felt that Sabio would be the best fit for me. Go to their information session. Speak with the instructor in the area and ask as many questions you may have. Go to other bootcamp info sessions and make the final decision for yourself. I am just going to give you my two cents on why I chose Sabio. It's long so TLDR is on the bottom.
Before starting, I had originally researched all the bootcamps in the OC area as I wanted to stay local. The thing that stuck out with Sabio is their no BS attitude. When you go to the information session, they tell you everything you want to know in regards to the job market, job expectations, hiring rates, their program, etc. They don't hire graduates directly to inflate numbers, and their program has constantly been adapting to the technologies and students that come through the course. The MAIN REASON I decided to go with Sabio is that you will work on a REAL application. Either a startup idea some client has, or like my cohort, an MVP for a client who already has a real business. I guarantee that you will not get the same real world experience, depth of knowledge, or opportunity anywhere else.
Prework was challenging. I actually had the disadvantage of deciding to start with Sabio a couple of weeks after the Prework had already begun. It took a lot of self-studying at home and catching up to pass the assessment but I did it! You need to make sure that you are ready to learn, ask questions, and study on your own. Do the homework, keep up with class, and you should be fine. I was lucky to have Komron AND Brijesh as teachers and they were amazing. Both are very smart and have tons of knowledge to share with you about what we learn at Sabio.Once we started bootcamp, it was a whole different level of committment. When they say you need to spend 70 hours a week, they are not kidding. Obviously, this number comes down to YOU and YOU only. If YOU do not put in the time and effort, YOU will not come out of the program on the same level of experience and skill as someone who does not. Nothing can subsitute for the time and effort that you need to put into this program to get the most out of it. Be ready to do nothing but code. If YOU do, you will get a job, you will be successful, and you will learn a TON.
I had Aaron sifu as our bootcamp instructor C28! C28! He is the coolest, nicest, and down to earth guy you will ever meet. He is super patient with any question that you have, no matter how stupid. I also really love that he doesn't try to give you the answer, but always will go over with you the process you need to take to debug any issue. That way, you can learn to solve things on your own, and start becoming an independent developer. This, is a HUGE skill in itself as researching and learning on your own are invaluable skills in this industry.Other things you experience during the cohort are agile/scrum methodologies, which really help to stay organized and communicative. You get to talk with the client every week, and get the real world experience of dealing with changing features, scrapping features, or totalling revamping certain pages to fit the client's needs. You also have the opportunity to work on different API's that exist out there, or work on huge features that the application requires. This is where PUTTING IN THE WORK AND TIME is important. The more work you are able to finish, the more work you can do, which results in more real world experience. You can work on MORE API's, more features, and more experience dealing with issues. This only gives you a step up on your job search.
The Job Assistance is also HUGE. This was actually the most important aspect of a bootcamp that I was looking for. The thing about Sabio that impressed me was that they fully prepare you for the last 2 weeks of the bootcamp to destroy any interview that you enter. Each day was different but you go over at least 200 interview questions, go in depth on harder questions/whiteboarding, interview practice, non-technical interview practice, resume reviews/changes, linkedin prep, learn Git and AWS, and more. I began 2 weeks ago, scared and unconfident, and now I have the confidence to go into any interview and be sure that the experience came out positvely. I started applying at the end of week 10, and had 5 interviews and an offer by the end of week 12. Now I am employed and ready to work. The job market is HUGE. When they say there are a lot of jobs out there, they aren't lying to you. You just have to be ready to show employers out there that you have what it takes and that you are better than every other person they are meeting.I did not expect to have a job, even before the bootcamp ended. I am a proud, happy Sabio graduate.
TLDR: Great experience and totally worth the price. Do your own research, go to information sessions, and make the final decision yourself. I guarantee that Sabio will not let you down. The bootcamp was an amazing experience and it really requires the 70 hours a week they say. Put in the effort or you won't get the same experience out of it as someone who is. I got a job before the cohort ended, and now am a happy employed Sabio graduate. NATION!

Best Decision

I cannot think of a better decision I’ve ever made than deciding to join sabio. The consistently positive reviews I saw here 6 months ago convinced me to look into the program, and now I can get behind them 100%. I was reluctant to believe that I would be able to learn how to code with absolutely no coding background and was worried I might fall behind, but after one info session with Gregorio I was quickly convinced. Pre-work is super helpful and prepares you with a solid foundation to get started. The bootcamp itself was one of the best experiences ever. I never would have believed that 12 hour days for 12 weeks would fly by, but there was never a day where I wanted it to end.
Before starting bootcamp, I was really nervous about the intensity of the program. However, while it is very challenging and takes a lot of time and dedication, I never once questioned my decision to join or felt significantly discouraged. They maintain such a positive environment that I knew I would be able to overcome any roadblock I came across. The hands on learning style is tough, but ultimately really beneficial and satisfying. You are never handed any answers, but always given just enough of a push when you get stuck to keep moving forward.
The toughest part for me was the job search, but that was mostly just the fear of the unknown. We spent a ton of time at the end of bootcamp preparing for interviews which really helped me to feel more confident and comfortable with the process. It was also extremely comforting for me to have a whole team of people behind me that felt equally invested in me finding the right position. Now three weeks after graduating I have accepted my first position as a software developer where I will be making double what I made prior to sabio.
Gregorio and Liliana are wonderful people who have created an amazing and encouraging community that I am so grateful to be a part of. They care so much about what they are doing and sabio never feels like just a business to them. My instructor Mike is an incredible person and developer who was beyond kind and patient with us. We were also lucky enough to work with Victor who is amazingly dedicated and helpful. OveralI I am constantly impressed by the quality of intelligent and good hearted people that make up sabio’s staff. They are also all extremely accessible and maintain one on one relationships with each of us so nobody gets lost in the shuffle. Even after I've completed my training, I know that I can get in touch with any of them at any time and they will do everything they can to help.
I could not recommend sabio more. It is a life changing experience that provides the absolute best instruction, support, mentorship, and community.

Get immersed into tech the right way!
Read more Read less of Phil P's review
Prior to retiring from the Marines last year, I had begun to dabble in tech as I launched a start-up in the SoCal area. Having not been a tech-guy AT ALL whatsoever.... let's just say some mistakes were made, and I learned the the value and importance of having not just a project-management background, but a development background as well.
My intentions coming into Sabio wasn't necessarily to get a job upon graduation, but to be able to fend for myself in the tech scene, and make a living as a tech entrepreneur. Looking back to the day I started pre-work, I can say with humility I'm a changed man! Not only are you immersed in coding all day, you get to see first-hand how project management and client relations are handled in a real-world environment. The projects we get assigned during the boot camp are actual platforms that mimic the way employees would work in an actual dev shop, with our instructor doubling as our teacher and project-manager. Having that type of experience right off the bat really made all the pieces come together to understand the dev cycle, user interface, all aspects of the design and architecture, and all the necessary steps it takes to properly build and launch a web-app. The instructors are high-caliber; coming from well-reputable companies and having years and years of experience in many avenues within the tech scene.
Having barely done anything on a computer other than use basic microsoft office tools, I was nervous coming here, thinking that this trade would go right over my head and I would be struggling to keep up with my classmates. Fast forward 6 months and I'm able to build fully-functional web-apps, navigate my way through algorithmic-problems, and I feel myself looking at things more so from an engineering standpoint.
If you're looking to get a job in tech, start your own company, or build your own apps, I highly recommend Sabio as your place to kick off. Not only did they give me the tools I would need if I was looking for employment, but they give you virtually endless resources to help you grow as a developer and land the right job. Your time with Sabio doesn't end when you graduate either; they keep all resources open to all graduates, and ensure everyone is moving in the right direction. They had countless employers and affiliates come visit the cohorts on a regular basis to offer free interview prep, resume building, and give us mock interviews to prepare everyone for the job market.
Also, they are super veteran-friendly and the course is covered 100% by the GI Bill, PLUS you earn 36 transferrable CS credits from their affiliate university. Can't say enough how impressed I was with the staff and the culture here at Sabio. If you don't believe me, check it out for yourself and I'm sure you won't be dissapointed!

As Shia LeBouf once said, "Just Do It"

Pragmatically speaking, I made an average of roughly over 25k a year last year and now make 65k with a 5 year technical mentorship to boot. If that didn’t get to you, read on.
Before going into this program I was working 3 odd jobs while going to a CC. Through the odd jobs, I'd met people in varying professions as I was in the midst of my indecision for what I wanted to pursue as a future career. Had met people from an array of fields ranging from musicians, managers, professors, accountants, and athletes; though those who'd always stood out were the developers.
Developers were quirky and had their little idiosyncrasies to them that made them stand out, though they all shared an underlying character of being able to adapt to change. Technology is an ever growing field and nothing is obsolete. To be a high quality developer entails having to constantly learn new concepts and functions while staying up-to-date with the tides of technological change. So, when you're starting out, have a solid foundation.
Sabio will give you that solid foundation.
If you've tried learning how to program on your own, you'd see there are a number of resources out there that range from teaching you the fundamentals of programming to the syntax and basic functions of a language; though they rarely, if ever, teach you the soft skills that programming entails.
Sabio gives you the opportunity to learn those soft skills, allowing you the chance to collaborate with a team.
If you’re looking for a good money maker, then look no further.
Sabio teaches you the .Net and now MEAN stack. Both of which are stacks where the money, is definitely, where it’s at.
The bootcamp pushes you to your limits. It'll allow you the chance to become well acquainted with the realm of professionalism. And chances are, you'll be with a group of people who may as well be just as experienced as you are in that field. Sabio gives you an opportunity that honestly can’t put into coherent words. It’ll have you feeling a flurry of emotions, make you feel uncomfortable in your own skin, and yet, give you a small push in the right direction towards your definition of success. And at the end of the day, when you get the guts to put your best foot forward, it’ll all be worth it.
My review may not be as detailed as the others on here though that hadn't been my intention. Its intent was to tell you readers looking for a bootcamp to invest in the unconventional and to: Just Do It

It's important to understand what Sabio is so you could understand what it isn't.
It's geared to help you land an entry level developer role (unless you're coming with some experience to learn more). If you're like me without a tech background, it means having Gregorio and the instructors help build a foundation for yourself to enter the field and teach you how to continue building on what you know. Your cohort instructor won't necessarily stand at the front of the classroom and lecture you all day. Instead, you're pushed to learn "on the job". You're given aspects of an overall product to build out and when you get stuck, you're encouraged to google for answers or ask your instructor by putting your name on a queue where you then receive one on one attention. I struggled a lot initially because I was someone who excelled in a lecture setting, but coding is best learned through hands on practice and you have to push through it even when it seems like you don't really understand all the pieces. If you're someone with a little more experience, they'll make sure you're challenged. Overall, you have a responsibility to put in the time and effort and communicate your concerns/struggles/goals with Gregorio, Liliana, or your instructors just like they have the responsibility to try and help you get to where they genuinely want you to be.
Sabio won't spoonfeed you the knowledge you need or get the job for you. You are the one that needs to put in the 70 hours/week. You are the one that will eventually be applying to jobs and studying for those interviews. But Gregorio, Liliana and your instructor will be with you every step of the way.
My job search data: I applied to 179 jobs in total (definitely on the lower end of what we were supposed to), I received 21 rejections, 10 in person interviews and countless assessments and recruiter calls. On day 90, I received and accepted my second job offer with a company that understood the value of a Sabio graduate. You may be the person that gets a job within a month of graduating or, like me, it might take you a little longer and that's okay. Job searching is a stressful complex mess and there are all sorts of barriers and factors. Keep at it anyway. On days when I felt like I couldn't do it anymore, I dragged myself to the Antioch campus so that Gregorio, Liliana and my instructors could keep pushing me. Trust their process and their wisdom.
Being a part of Sabio means being a part of a community that I've personally seen Gregorio fiercely protect. I deeply respect what he and Liliana are building here and can tell you that they are committed to help you succeed. They are readily available to answer your questions and are constantly improving their pre-work, lab and cohort processes. Without Sabio, I would've been stuck as a temp receptionist with a college degree and I owe them so much not just for the tech skills I've gained or my cohort I've grown to love but for helping me find the confidence I needed to keep going.

Fraudulent job placement practices
Read more Read less of Dave's review
I did not like Sabio's deceptive practices regarding job interviews and resumes. They have their students work on a web development project from a random company that wants a website done. (They claim that they "no longer" receive payment from the company for this.) Then, when the students graduate, they are instructed to lie on their resumes and to list that they worked full-time as a "junior developer" for the outside company, and to never mention Sabio on their resume or in interviews "due to negative stigma associated with bootcamps." As part of this deal, the outside company gets the free website and agrees to play along and tell any future employers calling for references that the student was a good "employee." Obviously, this is a complete lie, since it was not the student's first "junior development job." Rather, they were a student the entire time, started from practically no knowledge of coding, and Sabio was using the web project as a training exercise. Sabio is telling their students to commit resume and application fraud, and to lie during interviews, and I'm sure many employers would not be very happy to find out about this later on. Also, what happens ten or twenty years from now when the student applies to a company, or a government agency requiring a security clearance, where an in-depth background investigation is conducted, and the future potential employer learns that the student's career was started with resume fraud? One only needs to do a Google search to find news articles about a company executive, etc., who was fired when their past resume fraud came to light. So, while this helps Sabio have good job placement stats, in the long-run it hurts students' future careers.

Dave,
You are clearly upset and that is unfortunate. Your feedback, lack of mention of our actual training and inaccurate reporting of what goes on inside of our training leads us to concluded that you are the student we dismissed from our prework. We understand you are very upset and are sorry that we could not make it work with you. From the start we were very clear with you that we do not accept everyone into the program.
We support your suggestion and invite people to do a simple search on Google or LinkedIn to disprove many of the statements that you have made. The information is out there, you just have to take a minute and look it up. For example here is one of our very real clients and projects: https://midineromifuturo.com.
You will find our name, Sabio, all over the source code which makes it impossible for anyone to deny an association with us.
There really isn't much more to say other than to invite anyone to visit with out CTO and co-founder in person or on-line. He is available every Wednesday evening and often spends up to 3 hours answering questions from people throughout the country. He does not leave until all your questions are answered. Obviously, you should ask anyone in the LA and OC metro areas about any of the above statements. -

FIRED UP!
I can honestly say that making the decision to go through Sabio was one of the best decision I've ever made. After having spent the majority of my professional life in the car business, wearing just about every hat, I was not sure how I would adapt to being in an school type environment for 12 weeks. It turned out to be nothing like your typical school structure and that was part of the magic that makes Sabio work. This bootcamp has a really strong emphasis on a learn by doing approach as it is comprised of TONS of hours coding building a real application.
Before I came into this program I was not very computer savy but the beauty of this program is that you really can come from any walk of life and as long as you are willing to truely dedicate yourself throughout the course of this program you will come out of it with a long list of very strong capable abilities to help you get the job you're looking for or launch that startup you've been thinking about starting.
The truth is Sabio and its instructors really challenged the hell out of me to put everything I had into the program and although it was tough on my life at the time I really have to thank them from the bottom of my heart for helping me put things into perspective as to the reason why I was there. Afterall 3 months goes by in a flash and the rewards for putting in your ultimate effort will benefit you greatly once you're done with the program.
The last thing I like to mention is the community and mentorship. I've currently been working on my own application as I've chosen to go the entrepreneur route. If anyone would have told me I would have had this kind of support after cohort I would have totally said "c'mon please.. there's no way" afterall they already have my money why would anyone continue investing time/resources into me after the contract ends. I guess the car business made me way too skeptical and bitter. Lol. It turns out when you graduate from Sabio they SERIOUSLY STILL HAVE YOUR BACK. I can't tell you how amazing it is to have access to the Sabio community. From getting unstuck when you have a coding or build issue to ongoing professional developement. Boom! I hereby vouch for Sabio being the best coding Bootcamp ever!

Thank you Sabio!

Sabio gard on why Sabio is awesome

I graduated from Sabio and was interviewed by Course Report:
https://www.coursereport.com/schools/sabio#/news/alumni-spotlight-dan-tutolo-of-sabio
tailored insturction:
What I would like to add to that is that Sabio has all the bases covered. For one, it doesn't matter how much experience you have becuase with their student/teach ration which is like 5-1 or 6-1, you get tailored instruction based on your level. They will give you what you can handle and will always give you enough to challange you and force you to grow, whether you have zero experience or 20 years in another IT field. I came in with three years of Oracle database and some C# and python experience and my instruction was tailored to focus on my front end skills. Yet, there were people in my class with zero experience who walked out at the end of the program as competent junior developers with the capabilities to wire up the full architecture for any web app event starting with the html/css/js, shttleing the data to the middle tier api endpoints and using services to insert or retrieve data from a db. So this means they could consider any backend, middle tier, front end or even full stack positions.
amazing post graduate support:
Not only are you well prepped for interviews including whiteboarding and being forced to talk professionally about your code and prepare a professional resume, once you gradulate the school is there to advise you on dealing with recruiters and will even review your job offers with you. Super hands on. But not only that, there are multiple Sabio channels on SLACK where graduates can ask technical questions and get prompt replies from Sabio instructors and other graduates. The network and support grows with each cohort and you will always be part of the Sabio family.
Whatever you do, espcially if you are vet and have housing allowace (because you can use your GI BILL at Sabio), make sure Sabio is on the top of your list for consideration!

Making the decision to join Sabio's developer program was hands down one of the best decisions I've ever made. After working as a producer/actress for several years, I was looking for a career change that would allow me to utilize my analytical and creative sides and earn a more money while doing it. When I started learning more about coding, it seemed like something that would check all boxes. So back in September, after reading all of the rave reviews on Course Report, I decided to attend an information session to find out for myself if everything was as great as folks were making it out to be. At the session, Gregorio did a great job of answering everyone's questions and by the time I left I was convinced that signing up was the absolute right move for me. I love the fact that they offer a pre-work class before you start the 12-week developer program to help you ramp up to building a real-world application. I started pre-work in October and the 12-week program in November. Considering the fact that they're teaching you the full stack, along with the various frameworks, libraries, and technologies that come along with that, the program was definitely intense and thorough. Our instructor Mike was amazing and did a phenomenal job making the concepts plain and encouraging us through each and every step of the process. Our cohort was also blessed to have Gregorio teach us part of the time, which allowed us to experience a different teaching style that helped all of us reach our full potential as developers. Even though we worked really hard, I have to say that my cohort was a ton of fun and we all grew really close. It's great having so many people rooting for your success and everyone looks out for everyone else's best interest. For anyone wondering about employment after successful completion of the program, I'm pleased to report that I got a job offer before the end of the program with a salary that I'm very satisfied with! I'm so incredibly grateful for Gregorio and Liliana's vision, hard work, and dedication to all of us. I truly thank God for the fact that going through Sabio's developer program has given me an opportunity to attain an awesome skill set that will help propel my career and dreams forward while allowing me to provide a better life for my family. If you have the opportunity to do the same, you have to take it because you will not regret it! -

If you're reading this then it must mean you've taken the scary step in changing your life for the better. Brief history about me, I was in the finance industry for a long time and I wanted to make a change. I kept seeing how the world is now centered around technology and felt that I needed to be a part of this industy else I'll fall behind in life.
I was TERRIFED about starting a new career, and had a lot of doubt in my mind about making the move. The worse comes from family and friends and some will try their hardest to convince you that there's too many "unknowns" about this and to not make the move. But at the end of the day, it's your life, not theirs. If you're not satisfied with your career, don't listen to the doubters and make the move!
I attended an infosession (every wednesday) and was convinced that Sabio is the bootcamp for me. What set them apart from the others is they don't try to entice you with how much their graduates make or how "cool" their campus is or any other of that "sales talk" jargon. Gregorio kept it real and told you EXACTLY what to expect when you come in. And they offer extensive interview prep during the end of the bootcamp and 5 years of guidance and assistance after you graduate. No other bootcamp offered this and this sealed the deal for me.
What to expect: HARD WORK and LONG HOURS! This isn't a sugar coated statement. This bootcamp will challenge you. You and your cohort will be coding on a project for 10+ hours mon-fri (weekends are optional). You'll be introduced to many challenges from backend with writing simple to complex TSQL queries, to the middle tier coding in C# all the way to the front-end working with javascript. Trust and listen to your instructors. They all have more than 10+ years working in the industry.
There will be days where you feel overwhelmed, there will be days when you feel like everyone is smarter and faster than you, there will be days when you question yourself if you made the right choice. So how do you combat those feelings? It's really hard, but STAY POSITIVE. The instructors are there to guide you not only professionally, but emotionally as well. And they do a dam good job of it too. Do not be afraid to approach them with any trouble you have, they encourage it.
But don't let this scare you. This really is a "work hard, play hard" environment. Gregorio and the instructors do a great job providing that kind of atmosphere. Your cohort and Sabio will be your family for the next 3 months and you all will have a lot of fun. My cohort had 12 people in it and we all got along really well and had lots of fun coding together. My cohort ended late December 2016 and a lot of us are still friends after the bootcamp ended and more than half of us (including me) already have jobs.
So if you're still on the fence with Sabio, take the plunge and do it. I did and it was one of the best moves I've made in life. You gain credible professional experience and you make life long friends at the end. I would not trade the experience for anything. Thanks Gregorio, Liliana, John and Jimmy for everything!

If you've already decided that you want to dive into the land of development, and that the bootcamp route is right for you, look no further than Sabio.
Deciding to put your life on hold and invest so much time and money into a life-changing program like a coding bootcamp can be daunting, and if you’re going to make the leap, you want to make sure that you’re going to be in good hands. To help you make your decision, I’ll share a bit with you about why I am so thankful that I went with Sabio, and why I think it’s a no-brainer choice for anyone who is still on the fence.
Prior to starting Sabio, I had researched coding bootcamps throughout California. I read about various camps throughout socal, and was also drawn to the highly selective, “big name” camps in the bay area, thinking that since they were seemingly the most competitive and widely touted, there had to be something to them. I even went all the way through the admissions process for one which had a ~2% acceptance rate, jumping through hoops all the way to the end, before becoming disillusioned with many aspects of the program: I saw that they funneled recent bootcamp grads back in as teachers, so that they could inflate their employment statistics, despite the fact that that lowered the quality of teaching; they were impersonal to the point of being cutthroat, apparently administering tests every couple weeks during the program and then kicking to the curb anybody who didn’t meet very particular criteria; and they appeared to merely “teach to the test,” aka teach students how to solve isolated word problems, rather than preparing students for real-world job experience.
All that being said, after that admissions experience, coming to Sabio was like night and day. Throughout the cohort and beyond, I have been thankful every day that I went with them over any other camp, and the program more than exceeded my expectations.
Here are my top four reasons why I think Sabio sets itself leagues ahead of all other camps:
(1) The practical experience: Pretty much every other camp out there will have their students graduate with nothing more to show than an individual pet project that is, at best, a good imitation of an existing popular app. In contrast, over the course of a Sabio cohort, students work together in an environment that very closely resembles that of a real development team. The class collaborates to build out a real product for a real client, following a real-world software development life cycle and responding to feedback from product meetings. Everyone works in a full stack capacity, taking ownership of their features and integrating them with their classmates’, and in the end, everyone’s built up the skills, practical experience, and code necessary to prove to employers that they have what it takes to step into a job. Along the way, the instructors guide the class through the different layers of the stack, striking a balance between teaching, advising, and giving you the independence to solve problems on your own.
(2) The instructors: I can’t speak highly enough of our instructors, Aaron and Varr. Varr guided us through the prework, while Aaron took the lead for the 12-week program, architecting the project and spearheading instruction, with Varr assisting. Unlike at other places where recent bootcamp grads with no practical experience are funneled into teaching positions, Sabio’s instructors have years and years of professional development experience between them, and it shows. This means that you get to skip past a lot of the newbie mistakes that it takes junior developers years to sort out, and instead learn best practices right from the get-go. It also means that you can trust in your instructors to guide you correctly, even when it comes to the most difficult or unexpected of problems. Beyond that, our instructors helped foster an environment full of both hard work and banter. Along with my awesome classmates, they helped keep our spirits up even through the toughest of times with a zenlike calm and a healthy dose of humor, both necessary things for bootcamp survival :)
(3) The network (family): The Sabio network is large, tight-knit, and ever-growing. It is comprised of a diverse and enthusiastic group of current students and alumni from every cohort, who support each other and bounce ideas off each other even long after the 12-week program ends. The bootcamp itself is a family-owned business, founded and run by husband and wife duo Gregorio and Liliana, and they truly make all Sabio fellows feel like family. Gregorio and Liliana have your back, and they work their butts off to make sure that everyone is set up for success.
(4) The overall value: Sabio doesn’t just take your money and run. Far from it. Instead, the founders and instructors are sincerely invested in your career and your growth as a person. This means that you are not merely tossed out of the nest after your paid 12 weeks is up. Instead, as a graduate of the program and a Sabio fellow, you are then welcome to attend a huge variety of events for 5 years after you graduate, including hackathons, professional development workshops, meetups, job fairs, etc., and you are also able to keep in touch with your instructors and ask them for help with anything ranging from technical to career advice. I graduated less than two months ago, and already I’ve participated in a hackathon hosted by Sabio at USC, and have also learned AngularDart from a Google software engineer at a Sabio-arranged workshop. Moreover, I’ve been able to ping my instructors with questions about new languages and frameworks, interview advice, career guidance, and salary negotiations.
As for me, I am now happily employed as a software engineer at an exciting startup, making 50% more than my previous salary. But beyond money, I have also gained the skills, confidence, and support needed to flourish in the industry; have made wonderful new friends along the way; and have had a life-changing experience that I will continue to cherish as I grow in my career.
Honestly…if you’re still reading this and are still deciding, just go ahead and contact Gregorio and Liliana through the Sabio website, and attend an info session to see what it’s all about. You won’t regret it.

6 months ago, I was accepted into and deciding between two different coding bootcamps when, at the last minute, I decide to do another search for coding camps in the LA/OC area. Lucky that I did, as that was what led me to Sabio. I chose Sabio over all the many other choices for several reasons:
- Pre-work: I am always wary of jumping into anything new without heavy research first. Having the option to be on-campus and get a taste of how Sabio teaches and the work that gets done is the best research evidence to add to the pros and cons list.
- .NET stack: I was hoping to learn a strongly typed, structured language since C, C++, and Java was always more intimidating to me than Javascript. Most places seem to have their curriculum based in Ruby or Javascript (MEAN stack, which Sabio now offers too). Sabio is one of the few coding camp that offered the .NET stack, which includes .NET, C#, SQL, Javascript, jQuery, and AngularJS.
- Work with real companies: After attending an info session, I learned that Sabio provides an opportunity for their students to work on projects belonging to startups or already established companies. Some past cohorts built a company’s app from the ground-up and others revamped an existing company’s site. Working on a company’s product seemed more interesting than working on multiple smaller projects.
- Experienced instructors: I was feeling nervous about the other camps after they confirmed their instructors for my cohort. They were both graduates of the camp they were teaching, which is definitely not to say that they would not be great at instructing a new crop of students, but it really does not put an already doubtful mind at ease. It also brings into question the validity of the school’s hiring rates. Sabio hires only industry professionals with over 10 years of experience in the field.
- Limited classroom size: Sabio limits their classroom size to 10 students per instructor while my other options had 15 students per class and the other over 30 students per class.
- 5 years mentorship: I really liked the idea of a coding camp maintaining an open line of communication with their graduates. It showed a long-term investment in the skills they help develop.
The 12 weeks at Sabio were grueling and tough. Be prepared to put your personal life on hold during this period and give all you’ve got to the program. There was a lot to learn in a (relatively) small space of time and every step of the way our instructor was there to guide and teach us, and nudge us down the correct path when our code seems to going awry. The instructors at Sabio are coding wizards. They all have over 10 years’ experience with programming and it really shows. It is not uncommon that I would go up to John or Jimmy with a problem have been struggling with for over an hour and for them to resolve it in under 10 minutes. But my cohort members and I were not taught to be solely dependent on our instructors’ help. At Sabio, we were taught how to finds solutions to our problems on our own and were introduced to developer tools and new ways for thinking about the problems to better come up with our own solutions.
I am especially grateful for the Sabio network and 5 years mentorship promise now that my 12 weeks has come to an end. Sabio provides monthly professional development events and facilitates team set-up for hackathons. The owners Gregorio and Liliana truly care about further developing the coding abilities and career paths of their fellows. In addition to this, Sabio grads are now also part of the Sabio alumni network. Having the help and support of fellow alums—their interview tips, advice, their offers for additional mock interviews, inside knowledge of a job opening within an alum’s current place of employment, and stories of the alum’s own experiences—was invaluable during the job search.
My cohort completed our training 5 weeks ago and half of our group are now employed. This happened in spite of the awkward timing of the Christmas/New Year holidays when most companies’ recruiting and hiring process went quiet. Prior to Sabio, I was at a stable but unfulfilling job that paid well. After Sabio, I accepted an offer 5 weeks after graduating and will be making about 29% more than my previous salary with much better benefits.
If you have narrowed your bootcamp list down to just a few strong candidates, Sabio should be on that list. Remember that you do not only have the words of past fellows but also the option of going to an info session, attending pre-work, and speaking in-depth to Gregorio and Liliana. In the end, Sabio will be the right choice.

Best learning experience I ever had

The results first. It took me 5 weeks to find a job (83K), extremely good considering the following points; bootcamp finished right before Christmas; I had a massive gap in my work history; I've never had a real job for nearly 5 years. Before I started the bootcamp, I was going nowhere in life and had been floundering for a long time. I messed up earlier in life but knew deep down I could do better. Sabio gave me the know-how and confidence to do so.
I did my research before choosing Sabio. I went to info sessions for GA, Coding Dojo, and spoke in length to a friend who graduated from Hackreactor. I found Sabio to be the best fit for two reasons; one, they taught in the style that I preferred; two, they cared the most (see Gregorio about caring). Sabio offers pre-work classes (with instructors!) which none of the other bootcamps offer. Pre-work with an instructor shows they care enough about their students to have them be on the same page before starting the bootcamp and it allows people to explore the possibility of a bootcamp without fully committing. This kind of open learning environment is what I love most. The bootcamp did not dissapoint in this regard at all. All 12 weeks in the bootcamp were spent fully immersed in coding with guidance from an experienced teacher who you can seek help from anytime throughout the day.
I am a terrible student. I suck at studying, memorizing, and learning in the traditional sense. I learn best by doing. And Sabio provided that environment for me. If you are a more traditional learner, fret not. They provide tons of reading material, video lectures, powerpoints, and have a very helpful wiki too. Yes, I did have some background going into this program, but I was three years out of practice and never finished my formal education. To summarize, its a very nurturing but challenging learning environment. As long as you put your full effort into it, you will learn enough to get a job! Thanks John, Jimmy, Gregorio and everyone at Sabio!
P.S. I miss bootcamp but alas they don't pay me :(

I admit I was initially worried about taking out more student loans for a program that wasn't accredited (although they do offer a track through Antioch where you can get some sort of certification) and basically took the leap based on the great reviews the camp was getting. Within two weeks of finishing I had a job and was making more than 3 times as much as ever had in my life. I would say I'm pretty happy about my decision.
It's rigorous, to be sure, and there are times you will feel full of doubt and anxiety because of the mountain of learning and work ahead of you. But if you just keep pushing through it and make sure to completely devote yourself to it (and tell your friends and family that you're going to be MIA for awhile) then you will come out of it like: https://cdn.meme.am/cache/instances/folder708/500x/74950708.jpg
It feels awesome to go to school and actually get a return on your investment, especially after such a short amount of time. In a world of trumped-up claims and promises, it feels pretty surreal to have something pan out exactly as you hoped. Don't look at any other coding camps in LA, the instructors and staff are unmatched here and you will have a lot of fun working on your project with the other students. You will get help whenever you need it and always feel challenged. Somehow despite the stress of cramming all this into your brain so quickly, it still manages to be a laid back atmosphere and Gregorio's hilarious wisdom and commentary will help you get through the difficult times. Go for it!

Sabio is an excellent program and exceeds other bootcamps on all fronts. Sabio acts as an educational dev shop where each cohort builds out feature loaded product for external clients. This best prepares you for the coding job you will inevitably get once finishing the program, by working as a dev shop building out a full product. You get to build out your own features and see how 10x more are implemented by pair programming or seeing cohort mates finished work. The instructors are industry experienced senior developers(not recently graduated boot camp members) and hold your growth to high standards and a quick clip. They also know what is expected in professional development and know how to explain and fix complicated coding problems.
My cohort is 100% employed as developers in technical jobs across the SoCal area. No graduates are hired by Sabio and their job numbers reflect true placement in technical fields. C# .Net is a fine language to start in and there a ton of .NET jobs in the LA area. C# .Net is not restrictive and I am currently programming in javascript(Angular framework) and Java for front end and server side, respectivley. I am very satisfied with my pay and am a team lead at my current company. I highly highly recommend attending this program.

If you're reading through these reviews right now, either considering whether or not to do a coding boot camp or possibly shopping around for the best one to attend, you're exactly where I was three months ago. By all means, do your own research to come to the conclusion on your own, but I can tell you: you don't need to look any further. You will not find a more committed and qualified group of instructors/mentors to prepare you for your new career. And you will not find a more supportive community to help you along the way.
For the people reading this that only care about results, I can tell you that it's for real. I'm a college graduate who, just three months ago, had never earned more than 40k in my life (30+ years old). Before the program was done, I had already signed my accepted offer worth more than double my previous max salary. Sure, maybe not everyone will end up with an offer like that, but from my perspective, the program works. Making the decision to go through Sabio is easily one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life.
Go to a Sabio info session, meet Gregorio, see what the program is about, and then vet the info. Compare Sabio to other programs, and I think you'll probably end up making the same decision I did. If you do, you'll thank yourself for it. -

If you're reading this then you're probably in the same position I was six months ago scrolling through course report. I hated my job and needed a career change. I come from a sales background with no college degree and had absolutely ZERO coding knowledge. I was always passionate about computers and technology so I started doing some research. I came across Sabio and a couple other coding bootcamps. I went to an info session at Sabio with Aaron(Orange County Instructor), which was my first info session. I ended up joining the pre-work sessions that same week. I don't know what it was, but I trusted everything Aaron was saying. He was not trying to sell me on joining, he was just explaining facts. I didn't even bother going to check out any other bootcamps mainly because at Sabio you have 8 weeks of pre-work to get ready for the full 12 week bootcamp and most importantly at Sabio you are working on a REAL project for a REAL client. No other coding bootcamp does this. Sabio limit's their cohorts to a max of 10 people and you're working as a real development team.
So I joined the pre-work session's which were taught by Varr. Varr is actually teaching his own cohort come January. He does an amazing job breaking everything down in a way where someone with no experience like me can understand.
After the 8 week's of pre-work the real deal began. The 12 week course is no joke. Be prepared to devote everything to it. It is frustrating and stressful, but in the end it will pay off. All you have to do is show up, listen, and put in the work and you will be in a great place. Aaron is an incredible instructor. The guy is a genius. He had an answer to every question I asked and he answered them in a way where I would learn from it. No matter how many times I asked him the same questions, he remained patient with me until I completely understood what I was doing. Everyone has their own pace of learning and he adapts to everyones individual needs. In the last two weeks of the cohort we switch over to interview prep and job searching as the main focus while still continuing to code. We had 3 mock interviews and over 200 prep questions to study from. They set you up for success at Sabio. Even after you graduate you are connected to a network of sabio instructors and graduates, where you can seek help and advice.
On Wednesday of week 11, I received a job offer for a mid-level full stack .net developer positon which I accepted. The salary is 70k+. My first day of work is on Jan. 3rd and my cohort graduation date is on Jan. 8th. Choosing Sabio was the best decision I could have ever made.

Time to make the right decision....It's definitely worth it

Update—I got hired 4 weeks after graduation and I am now making 15K more than my previous job, plus benefits, in less than 6 months!
I wanted to write a detailed review of SABIO because when I first started looking at course-report, I only found a few reviews long enough to be useful. Of those, one writer described a situation like mine, and that helped me decide which bootcamp I wanted to attend. I hope my review can help you make the right decision, whether it’s to choose Sabio or to get you thinking about bootcamps in general.
#Yolo—So Make the Change.
So many doubts and so much regret. Five months ago, that’s what I faced every day after deciding to make a career change. I had been in the medical field for over seven years, working for two hospitals, and I had grown tired of the job’s uncertainties. As a per diem employee, my work schedule would change each day. I could get called in to work a few hours before my shift, or I could be sent home because the hospital wasn’t busy. Sometimes I would get called in, then get sent home after two hours. Many co-workers told me it would be a few years before I could get a part-time position, and a few years after that until I qualified for a full-time position. The pay would shrink as I moved up because of the benefit packages. I would be working more hours just to make the same amount or less; the only perk would be the guaranteed hours. So when I decided to switch careers, I faced doubt and regrets, much of it from my immediate family. They wanted me to keep both hospital jobs because they were stable and I would eventually get to be full-time. I know my family was only trying to help, but their negativity towards my decisions weighed heavily on me. Still, despite this pressure at home to stay in my field, I knew I had to make a change.
The Search:
Luckily, I was not alone in searching for something better. A colleague/friend in the medical field decided to join me. As we researched Computer Science degrees online, we came across the term “coding bootcamps” and shifted our research to finding those in the LA/OC area. My criteria included the languages being taught, price, schedule and time. We found four geographically desirable bootcamps -- Sabio, OC Code School, UCLA extension and Codesmith -- that were located relatively close. A software-engineer relative who advised me recommended Sabio because it was the only local bootcamp at the time to offer full stack web development in short amount of time (12 Weeks). On coursereport, Sabio had the best reviews compared to others. I decided to attend an info session at Sabio.
The Leap:
We arrived at the Sabio info session in Culver City full of questions. Co-founder Gregorio explained what Sabio is, what to expect in a coding boot camp, and what full stack web development is. He was upfront about the importance of devoting 70+ hours each week, the graduation rate, and salaries one might expect after graduation. He said that although many coding camps claim their graduates start at salaries around 100k or more, the actual average is around 60k. No one will hire a junior developer with fewer than six months of coding experience for 100k. Gregorio doesn’t hire Sabio graduates to teach; all the Sabio instructors have over 10+ years of experience with different backgrounds. Gregorio stayed afterward to answer all my questions and even offered advice on my current job situation, which impressed me. After that night, I knew Sabio was it.
Pre-work:
The four weeks of pre-work was initially rough for me. I had no prior experience with coding except for codecademy’s beginner lessons online to learn HTML and CSS as a foundation for pre-work. The part-time pre-work instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and available. They provided guidance and structure to the class. The pre-work student-teacher ratio is about 15:1. When I received the good news that I had passed the assessment and moved a step closer to my goal, it was one of the best feelings I’ve had. Written assessments at the end of the pre-work session provide an idea of how well you understand the material. Don’t stress – it’s not a test, just a snapshot of what you’ve learned so far about web pages.
Cohort:
After the first week or so revisiting pre-work concepts so that everyone is on the same page, each cohort starts on a project that involves an actual client with a web app concept for real-world use. The client may show up now and then to answer questions, but it’s the instructor who guides the cohort. In a semblance of Agile methodology, every day begins with a standup meeting in which each person discusses what he/she is working on, any issues that may have come up, and what today’s work will be. Following lectures or code review, each person gets to work on a part of the app. Since the student to teacher ratio is small – usually around 10:1 – everyone benefits from one-on-one interactions. After a few days, the instructor is there mainly for guidance or troubleshooting; otherwise, you research and code on your own or as a team. This exposes you to many of the available developer tools to help you write and debug your code. You learn a lot, including how to start thinking like a coder. The goal is to get everyone coding like a professional web developer. You should work no less than 10 hours a day so you can fulfill the strict commitment to a 70-hour week, which is no joke; you get out of it what you put in. Each day you come to learn, and each day you will improve. I was fortunate to have a great cohort. Everyone came from a different background and brought unique ideas and perspectives. Since we spent so much time together, Sabio became my second home, and my cohort was my second family. (Months after our work at Sabio was finished, we still Slack one another and visit Sabio for monthly professional development sessions.)
Interview Prep
As you wrap your cohort project for the client, Sabio instructors take turns conducting mock job interviews, white-boarding and coding tests. They want you over prepared so that the real interview is a piece of cake. In the week or two before gradation, you get help writing your resume, and you start to apply for jobs during the day and continue coding at night. Gregorio is also a great resource for interview preparation and is available most of the time to answer questions or offer advice. The interview preparation was such a success that many of my cohort found jobs before graduation.
The Finish Line
Good luck with your research. I hope this review was helpful. Sabio is a great bootcamp that offers tremendous support during and even after you have found a job. Gregorio and Liliana go above and beyond to make sure everyone has a successful transition from beginning to end, including offering free professional workshops to help you continue developing your skills even after you are working. They commit to each person for five years and/or until you’re earning $100K.

Do you feel unsatisfied with your current job because it lacks challenge or feels unrewarding?
If so, you should learn to code.
Coding is difficult, but the satisfaction that comes from writing good, functioning code is like receiving 100 presents, and a kitten, on a nice, snowy Christmas morning.
Simply put, by learning to code, you open an avenue of endless growth. As long as you code, you will always be learning, thus you will always be challenging yourself.
Are you having trouble choosing between different bootcamps?
Don't sweat it. I was in the same boat. I had a difficult time choosing between three bootcamps in Los Angeles, but ultimately chose Sabio.
Why?
Sabio was the most transparent. They didn't post outrageous average grad salaries. Note, it's extremely unlikely that a boot-camp graduate will receive a full-time (non-contract) offer of over $100k in southern California.
Also, Sabio's blog is super informative and it played a large role in my decision making process.
If you don't know where to start, go to an info-session and get your questions answered!
What's the curriculum like?
Code err'day.
But seriously, 70 hours a week of hard coding. You gain practical and professional experience by building a product/web application for an entrepreneur.
Once you complete pre-work and pass a coding assessment, you get 12 weeks to munch code like nobody's business.
What are the instructors like?
They are absolutely incredible developers and S-tier mentors.
My instructor was Mike, and he is the greatest sensei I've ever had. Sabio did a great job hiring him because his enthusiasm and passion for teaching influenced the way my cohort functioned (no pun intended).
My other instructor was Gregorio and he is one of Sabio's founders. He's a fantastic person with tons of wisdom. He's actually a wizard. Gregorio the Grey. :)
Overall, my instructors were invested in my growth and I appreciated that.
What was your cohort like?
They're my awesome friends and I'd trust them with anything.
We support each other, unconditionally, through good and bad.
Although we've headed in different directions, we still keep in touch and I genuinely feel happier, seeing each of them succeed.
Also, we're getting KBBQ soon.
Overall impression?
Sabio is a life-changing experience. There's nothing quite like it. I'm a recent UCLA graduate and Sabio is, in a sense, my master's program. I don't regret my decision to attend at all.
In terms of ROI, Sabio beats most graduate schools. Think about that for a minute.
Lastly, Gregorio and Liliana, the founders, are the nicest people in the world. They want you to succeed and work hard to make sure you do. It's humbling to experience.
If you do choose to attend Sabio, please understand that you aren't joining some coding school. You're joining the Sabio family.
Even after graduating, you have access to tons of resources. You are always welcome to attend workshops or even use a room on campus. If you're struggling at work, you can always DM someone for help.
In short, you're never on your own. You'll always be a part of something great, and that in itself is priceless!
Where are you now?
It's been one month since I graduated.
Since then, I have accepted an offer with a Real Estate tech company. And because everyone wants to hear it, I make a lot of money with tons of awesome benefits.
It's fulfilling, for me, to be called a "top candidate" when talking to hiring managers and receiving offers. And this isn't because I'm smart, it's because Sabio prepared me for interviews and taught me the invaluable lesson of working hard.
That being said, what are you waiting for???
A famous video game character once said, "hesitation is the seed of defeat".
Empower yourself in 2017.

I’ve been eagerly waiting for the day to write my Sabio Success Story!
I was just like you, scouring Course Report and carefully weighing my options. Because I was living in San Jose, Sabio had stiff competition against bootcamps in the Bay Area. I had a list of top 5 schools and after serious consideration for each one, Sabio turned out to be THE BEST all-around coding bootcamp.
I had absolutely no technical background prior to attending Sabio. I have a BA in music and was working for a symphony in the Bay Area. Understandably, I was met with skepticism from people who saw me as a musician. But I thought, “Why not?”
It was March 2016 when I first signed up for Codecademy and even heard of HTML. Liliana checked in with me several times before I moved down to LA and made sure I had a head start before PreWork.
I started PreWork in July and performed well enough to move on to the 12 week intensive in August. 2 weeks after finishing the program, I had a job offer! Thanks to Gregorio’s guidance, I increased that offer by 6k and now I’m earning 20k more than the job I left 5 months ago!
The best advice I can give when deciding on a bootcamp is to DO YOUR RESEARCH! Know what you’re looking for and what your values are. My top priorities were the quality of the education and the support. I couldn’t find any other bootcamp that had reviews as consistent and positive as Sabio’s. Their online presence was hard to ignore. And now that I’ve gone through it, I too can echo that Sabio delivers THE best education and support you can ask for.
Sabio has been there for me in more ways than just learning how to code. Whenever I felt incapable or inadequate, I could easily ask Gregorio or Mike for a chat about how I'm feeling. Being a woman I was concerned about inclusiveness. I’ve read horror stories of women at bootcamps being subjected to less than ideal learning environments. Take comfort in that Sabio keeps a high standard of respect in the classrooms. Whether you’re a woman, POC or LGBT, you’re more than welcome here.
I’m so grateful for Gregorio, Liliana, Mike and my Cohort for believing in me more than I believed in myself. And making sure I didn't fall behind or get sucked into my own self-crippling doubt. Like I’ve said and so many others, Sabio is there for you 100%. You’ve come to the right place.

Sabio has a great program that will teach you core principles and give you a solid foundation for coding. I felt it was true that the more I put my effort into the program, the more I got out in return.
The instructors were always invested and did their best to answer any questions or concerns I had. It made me feel comfortable about learning new concepts which helped me keep motivated throughout the entirety of the program. I appreciated the learn by doing approach, with my instructor giving helpful advice and pointers to challenge my thinking.
One of the aspects of Sabio that I truly appreciate is the sense of community and the support for students, even after graduation. My instructor was happy to help me and give advice on my job. It really is reassuring knowing that you get more out of this program than just the skill of programming.
Thanks to them, I've been able to keep up at my new job, despite having to work on technologies that I was not familiar with. It shows that you come out of the program with a solid foundation, and support when you need them.

Let me start by saying that I was, am, and probably always will be a skeptic.
What this means is that, when I was stuck in a job I detested 6 months ago and considering escape routes, I didn't actually, truly believe this would work. I wanted a career where I would be challenged and could learn new things constantly. Tech seemed like the logical choice, and a boot camp seemed like the simplest, fastest way to get there, but it seemed wildly unbelievable to me that a 12-week program would get me industry-ready.
I picked Sabio because their statistics were fantastic (and unpadded!) and because I would get to work on a real project with a real client rather than a variety of small, inconsequential assignments. The skeptic in me didn't allow me to get excited about everything else they promised - continued support, a truly caring community, incredible instructors... So I focused on the concrete, quantifiable promises instead. I committed to this because I was desperate to get out of where I was, but all the while I doubted that this would seriously work.
Prework started - 1 month of 15 hours/week instruction to prepare us for the real deal. We learned the foundations of front-end and middle-tier development, enough that we would not be useless when the actual 12-week program started. The instruction was more than good enough to penetrate through my never-did-this-sort-of-thing-before barrier. I got great guidance and learned a ton, but throughout the prework process I was still skeptical. Sure, things were going great, but there was no way that I would really be able to get a career at the end of all this...
And then the 12-week program slammed me in the face so hard that I didn't have the time or energy to be skeptical anymore. Sabio expects 70 hours a week from its fellows, with you absorbing and applying insane amounts of material every hour of that. The challenge exceeded anything I had ever done before. I was tested physically, mentally, and most of all emotionally, and my skepticism was melted down into a puddle of insecurity that I found myself splashing around in all too often. I wasn't doubtful anymore - I was freaking POSITIVE that I couldn't do this.
But I was also surrounded by 5 others who were going through the exact same thing. My cohort was full of extraordinary people from all sorts of backgrounds. It was a pleasure and a privelege to do this program alongside them, and I'm eternally grateful for their putting up with my insecurities and helping me when I was lost or confused. Furthermore. my instructors Mike and Gregorio were some of the most intelligent, patient, and caring people I've ever worked with.
In fact, the entirety of the Sabio community is incredible. Those promises that I had discounted in my initial decision due to my skepticism were more than fulfilled, and they turned out to be the core reason I would vehemently recommend Sabio to anyone even vaguely considering it. You will be surrounded by other people going through the program, awesome instructors, graduates, and founders, all of whom actually, seriously care about your success and will do their damndest to make sure you do well.
Ultimately, I made it through - all of us did. I learned more in 12 weeks than I thought possible to learn in a year. I scored a fantastic job with a company I fell completely in love with, and at a great salary to boot.
I'm still a skeptic, mind you - there's a small part of me that still wonders if one of these days I won't wake up and realize it was all a really cool dream. But until that happens, I am happy as hell with my decision.

Best. Decision. Ever

Before I decided to enroll in Sabio’s 12 week program, I had already selected another bootcamp on the other side of the country that I had every intention of attending; then I found Sabio. Stumbling upon Sabio’s website was completely accidental, but after perusing the website, I decided that attending one of the weekly info sessions couldn’t hurt. I attended an info session and spoke to Gregorio about Sabio’s program, and the thing that stuck out to me the most was that each class is given the opportunity to work and collaborate on a real app for an actual client. While most bootcamps I had researched were touting a curriculum that would result in a portfolio full of smaller exercises, Sabio grads were leaving the program with real work experience and a working app to show to potential employers.
And so, on a whim and a gut feeling, I decided to attend Sabio as part of Cohort 21, and 12 weeks later I became a fully employed front end web developer earning significantly more than I had in my previous career.
The program is tough and the hours are long, but with the help of the ever patient Sabio instructors who are ready and waiting to help with any and all questions that arise during the program (of which there will be plenty), I found myself rapidly acquiring the skills necessary to becoming a full fledged developer. Ultimately, Sabio is focused on helping you become a fully employed developer, and towards the end of the program we began focusing on finding jobs and preparing for the inevitable technical interviews. Because Sabio’s instructors are professional developers with many years of experience, their insight and knowledge proved invaluable during the job hunting process, and after receiving a job offer less than a week after the 12 week program ended, I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that that wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Sabio’s instructors.
Quite possibly more important than Sabio’s curriculum, and more significant than the opportunity to build a professional app, is the Sabio community. When you enroll at Sabio, you don’t just sign up for a 12 week program, you sign up to become part of an invaluable community of developers; a resource that will continuously prove it’s worth long after the 12 week intensive program ends. If I have questions about a problem I’m trying to solve at work, I know I can look to the Sabio community for insight, feedback, and support for even the most elementary or mundane issues.
Discovering Sabio was a perfectly happy accident that ultimately lead to an overall better career and lifestyle for me. If you’re considering going to Sabio, or still weighing your options, do yourself a favor and go to Sabio (or at least an info session); you will not be disappointed.

I went to the info sessions of a few different bootcamps but it was an easy choice to pick Sabio. The biggest reason for me was that at Sabio, you work on a real product for an actual client. I think it is much more impressive on your resume compared to having a calculator/tictactoe project or whatever.
The program is great. You learn full-stack development, and the languages you learn are highly sought after. I had Aaron and Varr for instructors, and they are awesome. There’s a lot of stuff to learn and you will definitely have lots of questions. They’ll patiently answer your questions for however long it takes for you to understand. The cohort size is small so there is lots of one on one time.
It doesn’t end with you just graduating, or after you find your first job. The Sabio community of instructors and fellows is there for you if you have questions about code, work, or anything. Sabio continues to provide workshop events to help with your professional development.
I was at a job that paid OK, but was not something I really enjoyed. I was definitely apprehensive to walk away from a steady paycheck to jump into this program in an entirely different field. From zero experience in programming, I was hired 3 weeks after graduating. I’m enjoying the code, and at a higher salary to boot.

My story is a little different from most who went through the program. I was already an established teacher in a great school district, with good pay and benefits. After 10 years in education though, I wasn't as excited to come to work each day like I used to and if I couldn't put my heart into what I was doing anymore, I wanted a career change. After looking at many different options (masters, doctorate, other certificate programs all related to education), I knew I didn't want to spend 2+ years just to try out a career that I may or may not enjoy. Fortunately for me, I was able to connect with a software developer who worked at my school. Upon finding out that he was a music major that transitioned into programming through a bootcamp on the east coast, I started looking into bootcamps offered in SoCal.
I researched many different bootcamps, but in the end chose Sabio because of the extended prep period (Phase 1). While most other programs offered a 2 week intro period, Sabio offered 4-6 weeks of part-time prep time with an instructor to make sure you are actually interested in coding, you get along well with the instructors, and you really are ready to pull the plug on your last career. There is a coding test at the end of Phase 1 to make sure you have the fundamentals and dedication necessary to be successful in Phase 2, their full-time 12 week program where you are paired up with a real startup company to build their prototype.I absolutely loved my two instructors at Sabio, Varr in Phase 1 and Aaron in Phase 2. Both are extremely knowledgeable, patient, and just kind, well-rounded people that are pleasant to be around. I was the only female in the cohort but that is pretty typical in a male-dominated industry. My cohort and instructors were great, and fostered a collaborative learning environment. Don't be afraid to get on the queue for the one-on-one time with the instructors, even if it's just for them to clarify what you need to do for the 2nd or 3rd time until you can wrap your head around the task at hand. They are there for support. That being said, you will definitely have to put in 70+ hours a week. As Aaron said many times throughout the 12 weeks, "If it was easy, everyone would do it." The more work you put in, the more knowledge and practice you'll get out that would better prepare you when you are ready to interview for jobs.
My cohort of 8 people all got hired for full-time positions within a month of graduating from Sabio! I chose Sabio because of their longer prep period for true beginners, hands-on experience on a real life project, interview prep, and supportive instructors who do whatever they can to help you as long as you pull your weight and put in your hours. I've already recommended Sabio to my brothers, who are interested in career changes. I recommend going to Sabio's info sessions to see for yourself what the program is all about. -

Why Sabio --
Not too long ago, I decided I wanted to learn to code and become a part of the fast growing tech industry. I was working as an accountant at that time and to put it lightly, I despised it. Every morning I would wake up dreading going to work. I was always intrigued by programmers and even did some tutorials on my own.
Though I had heard of many coding bootcamps, I was hesitant to go through one because I was unsure whether they would provide the skills necessary, in what seemed like a short 12 weeks to land a job as a web developer. Rather than shutting the idea down completely, I did A LOT of research and attended numerous info sessions. I was skeptical up until I attended Sabio’s info session. During this info session, I was impressed by how confident the instructors were about teaching anyone to code, if you were willing put in the time and effort. Having very little knowledge on the subject, this really stuck out to me. They spoke about the amount of students that get hired as web developers once they leave the program, which is just about everyone who is looking to find a job in this field. They told us that Sabio provided professional development opportunities even after the bootcamp was over, so you as a web developer could continue to grow and learn. Though these were great factors already, it was the moment they mentioned that they bring in real clients who have an application that needs to be built. This is what their students work on during the 12 weeks of the bootcamp. I am a kinesthetic learner by all means, so when I heard this during the info session I had made my decision.
During Sabio --
During this 12 week period, you are focused on learning the full spectrum of web development, from front end to back end. What I appreciated most during this process was that there was also a focus on developing your problem solving skills, to get you to think like a developer, which is essential in this line of work. This program like most great things, is difficult and grueling, however you are given the tools and support system (Sabio and your cohort) to help you conquer these 12 weeks. If you submerge yourself into this new world fully, you will come out a winner!
After Sabio --
Long after you have completed the bootcamp, Sabio will be there for you. It’s amazing to me just how much they invest in each of their students, even if you’re no longer going through the actual bootcamp. Whether it’s for a big career decision you are facing, or a small debugging issue that you just can’t seem to crack. They also give you a community filled with alumni who have gone down the same path as you, who you can connect with and learn from or perhaps even build something with. Once you’ve chosen Sabio, they are your family. As for me, I am currently employed and doing something that I finally love, all thanks to Sabio. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I am today and I am so grateful to have made this decision!

Real clients with real app ideas + awesome instructors + cool work environment + free coffee + free beer.
Yes, it is exhaustive, I was putting in 70hrs+ each week, but I was fortunate to have a supportive and really really funny cohort to pull me through while keeping me entertained. Shout out to my main instructor Aaron for always believing in me even though I was having a hard time believing in myself if I can do this coding thing. Coming from a science background was a complete 180 turn. Fortunately, Aaron was there every step of the way to guide me in the right direction without actually giving me all of the answers. He understands that everyone goes at their own pace and caters to us in different ways that challenge us and help us get better rapidly. The patience on this man has no boundaries. I asked him the same question multiple times and he just has a way to tell you to get your shit together without making you feel like shit. You will get shitty days where you will question what the heck you are even doing, but you just have to believe in the program and push on.
I found a job in less than a month after bootcamp and was given the salary that I asked for. Thank you Sabio!
