I started the Hyperion Data Science Bootcamp around July 2023.
The course started off simply but started to get really tough when you get the next levels (There are 3 of them).
I'm doing the online bootcamp so I'm doing this remotely just so you know.
What I like about the bootcamp:- At the beginning, the support staff used to call me to check how I was doing every week, so I felt reassured about the bootcamp.
- They will send you an email if you fall off to check if all is okay.
- The feedback on the task. This is what I really like the most about the bootcamp because your are told first what you did right, what you can improve and given some resources to further your skills.
- The available mentor calls. You can schedule a video call with your mentor, you have a limited number, 8 I think per month, to converse with a mentor if you are struggling. This is very important especially when you are confused as to why things are not working.
- Extra lectures. Besides the study material, there are scheduled lectures to go over the material and even ask questions. If you are a student, its good to be among other students in the video lecture hearing other ask questions and knowing you are not alone in your challenges.
What I think can be improved:- Although you do have tons of materials, support and extra lecturers, I felt that from Level 2, the material jumps from easily consumable to very difficult. In my opinion, this ramp up is too fast because too many complex material is thrust upon you and I found myself falling behind trying to find resources to explain the basics first of that task, then being able to understand what the task required, and then doing the task.
- Level 1 should be shortened and greater time be given to the next levels. As I said in the first point, the first level's material is not that complicated, (maybe that's just me), the next levels are really next level and need more tasks and more examples so you can get it and be better equipped. For example, more examples and lessons on how to make your presentations tell the story, not just to create the graphs and explain what they represent and how to get the story across.
- More engagement on the discord from the lecturers/mentors. I know that usually this a forum to foster student engagement with each other but an appearance from a mentor or lecturer would be of benefit to drive student participation and engage more. I did not feel their presence in the forum but I think their knowledge would have really helped is some of the questions especially queries on the school processes.
Would I recommend the bootcamp? Absolutely. The thing is, when learning about development, or being a data scientists, the onus is on you to do the work if you really want to be good at it. As others know, you have to deal with a lot of frustrations. The bootcamp should not really hold your hand but they do at the beginning and then let you do things by yourself with support always at hand. Then they give you a framework so that you know what to do next. Then they give you the right tasks to build your foundation step by step and give you feedback along the way which is reassuring and keeps you on the right track. There are other things they provide you as well which only requires your engagement but this post is way too long already.
If you can afford it, this bootcamp should be on your top list. -

I have had an amazing journey with HyperionDev, learning all sorts of new skills and practices. Making use of a one on one approach with the mentorship sessions was an incredible idea, because students can address specific issues with the task and feel addressed personally.
I would like to say there are no faults, but the ones at HyperionDev did not interrupt my learning experience for the most part. A frequent problem I was having was due to lack of communication or support via the query system. It does not feel as if my issues are taken seriously or when help is required there was simply no response until I had used a limited mentor session or I searched for other sources to find a solution.
I believe the first month check-in should be applied to the whole course for non-code-related queries or questions. This will improve the time it takes for responses to admin related queries faster. -

I just finished the Hyperion Development (HyperionDev) software engineering bootcamp, and I have to say it was a really fun and educational experience. I had the chance to delve into the realm of software engineering during the course of the programme, and it far surpassed my expectations.
The degree of support that HyperionDev provides to its students is one of its unique features. The professors and support staff were always available and willing to assist me if I got stuck or ran across a particularly difficult problem. HyperionDev stands out thanks to this level of dedication to student development.
The programme covered a wide range of crucial software engineering subjects and was thorough and organised effectively. After completing the bootcamp, I felt well-prepared for the needs of the industry, from the basics of coding to more complex ideas.
The emphasis on practical, hands-on learning was what I liked best. Real-world projects give students the opportunity to put what they have learnt into practise, which is crucial while pursuing a career in software engineering. HyperionDev promotes this.

I genuinely had a great time at HyperionDev. I was made feel welcome and important. This was also my first online learning experience and they made adjusting to it feel easy and natural. Their course is broken down into four levels, making learning with them really easy but still challenging enough to make one want to learn more and grow one's skills as you work through each task. Very few times though there would be task that is a little to hard and vague to complete yourself but worry not because your mentors and code reviewers are there to help. They don't solve your problems for you but instead teach you how to solve them yourself. The mentors I was lucky enough to meet were always extremely kind and patient with me, constantly pointing me in the right direction whenever I felt like I was stuck. Something I wasn't a big fan of was how little the interactions with other students were, this could have just been my group though. Nonetheless I'm hoping this is something they work on in the future especially when being teaching how to work collaborately with others. In the beginning I felt like what I was learning wasn't going to lead me anywhere but now that i'm at the end i'm extremely happy to have been with them because now I feel as confident as ever about starting a career in this industry. As a beginner in Software Engineering, I have had an amazing experience with HyperionDev. The learning experience is different as they enable you to fully understand what you are learning through quality videos and the lecture notes on the Dropbox make it even easier to understand as they guide you through the steps and make you understand in order for you to be able to tackle the assignment questions that follow. I also appreciated the extra questions that I had to do as they guaranteed my understanding on the topic. -

The overall bootcamp experience was good. The tasks are presented in a manner that is usually easy to understand, but sometimes doing your own research is necessary.
Course content is in depth and covers everything needed to become proficient in the chosen field.
Grading is fair, and additional resources are provided for further details on the subject at hand.

Who writes a review at the beginning or the middle of a course?😂 When we go to a restaurant do we leave a review whilst eating the food? No we wait once finished so we can examine ‘critically’ whether it was good or not. Too many fake reviews here misleading people.
I finished the data science bootcamp and can confirm it is utter trash. So many students have spoken out against Hyperiondev because of the poor experience they have had too. I am nearing the end of my Immersive Full Stack and Software Engineering bootcamp with HyperionDev, and the experience has been spectacular! With this bootcamp, I have learnt so much more about front-end and back-end web development and software engineering than what I would have learnt on my own. The course is structured very well and progressively gets more complex, as every new task builds on the concepts from previous tasks and you begin to see how everything fits together. The mentors and code reviewers are very knowledgeable and are very willing to help you if you are stuck on a task. I also appreciate the fact that the mentors and code reviewers always give you constructive criticism regardless of whether you get 100% for a task or less. I am very excited to soon be assisted by HyperionDev's career services to enter the job market upon submission of my final task. -

Very poor course material (PDFs in a dropbox) - Unprepared lecturers and sketchy connections - Very time consuming "Build Your Brand" task where you are asked to source recruiter and hiring manager contacts for HyperionDev - Mentors only available after 1-2 weeks so not help when stuck - Even if you finish all tasks perfectly, you will not get a certificate of completion UNLESS YOU YOURSELF secure an interview. - You will only be eligible for a possible university co-certification if you also secure a job (by yourself of course) by a set deadline. - Skills taught are VERY basic.Melanie of HyperionDev

Do not fall for the fake reviews about Hyperion dev. Do proper research before signing up to this terrible bootcamp. You will waste a lot of money like I did, which I am deeply regretting now. If you want to see real reviews then just search them on reddit and you will really get the gist of it. It seems like they have payed people to write good reviews about them and that they block, silence or threaten anyone who writes negative reviews about them. Go and check out Trust pilot and you will see that they have flagged a lot of reviews.. God forbid anyone says anything bad about them or exposes the truth about them.. There is a massive lack of staff it seems so response rate is very slow and support seems non-existent when it is urgent. I have waited up to three weeks to get responses from the student support department, to the point where I had to tag the staff on a Discord group chat to get their attention. The course content somehow seems incomplete as most tasks (especially the capstone projects) do not relate to what has been learned in the 'pdfs'. Also shocking that it is a supposed tech company but they don't even have a proper student dashboard where one can obtain the course material. They basically give you a Dropbox link where you can download pdf files which are highly superficial level. You can teach yourself more from the internet (and for free), and you will get more knowledge than what you can ever get in their incomplete 'pdf' course work. They boast that you will be career ready after taking their bootcamps and almost promise that you will get a job after completing it but most of the student job success is because they hire past students the be teachers and mentors for the next year.Melanie of HyperionDev

Course materials were really poor. The data visualisation examples could have been used as examples of what not to do. I work in this field and it felt like the materials were written by someone with no experience in it at all Concepts were introducedin the compulsory tasks that were missing from the notes and example code. Some element of self-directed learning is fine, but it felt like they had just forgotten to mention them. Some of the sample code just didn't run, and mentors were unable to work out why Some of the tasks could not possibly give the required output, and again mentors could not explain why.Melanie of HyperionDev

They kicked out students from their discord server who dare to complain. -They changed the half of the tasks to optional to reduce the number of the drop out students. -Force you to apply for jobs from day 1 without any experience or learning (sincethey get the money from DfE after the student got an interview) -Lecturer has no experience at all and we were sitting on a lecture for 1 hour to see that the lecturer cannot solve a problem. -You cannot book a mentor for 1 to 1 since they don't have enough mentors or not even comes to the meeting after you got a date. -They started to flag negative feedbacks here to try to make their feedbacks better. -They removed their UK branch to remove Google review since they had nearly 2 stars feedback on it(so now you can find them only in Africa).Melanie of HyperionDev

The course and company are woeful. Poor and outright incorrect information and learning materials, toxic culture, and misadvertised in multiple ways. Please take my words on board and avoid this course. The real course content you will be taught on the software engineer bootcamp is woefully inadequate to set you up for a job - it doesn't even cover some extremely basic skills that you'll need e.g. APIs. In short: - Would you like to be ignored for WEEKS with emails sent to their support team? - Would you like to learn by reading poorly written PDFs with vague content? - Would you like to be guided by other inexperienced "mentors" which are just theirrecent BootCamp graduates? - Would you like to have a 1hr lecture with the instructor being disconnected for 30mins? - Would you want more than 60% of your course material marked as OPTIONAL and be told you are job ready while you only have learned the basic "Hello World" and writing a simple for-loop? AND THIS IS DEFINITELY THE RIGHT COURSE FOR YOU!!! I self-funded this course. I enjoyed the first few modules, and I am generally good in self-studying. However, the pdf lessons were just lacking content in relation to completing the assignments, and I had to do more research. 1:1 mentor support had been unavailable twice, and they were not knowledgeable enough to answer my coding queries. Unfortunately, I had to stop the course after the 1st month due to illness and finance issues. But guess what, they still wanted me pay the full tuition. There were several breeches in their contract. I had to raise complaints with the affiliated Uni and Department of Education. I'm surprised that I'm not the only one facing these issues. This bootcamp was well advertised (posters on trains, adds on Facebook), and it had good & unrealistic promises, but the teaching method has not delivered. Their model seems like a kickstarter & a money making scheme, and like the others commenting below, I will raise them to court if necessary. There exists now a huge community of students that are incredibly disillusioned with Hyperiondev. The course is of extremely poor quality, almost no interactivity, extremely limited content and many topics that are advertised are not taught.
Hyperiondev has been silencing students who speak out by kicking them off the course unfairly. On other websites it seems they have been leaving themselves lots of good reviews.
If you go on Trustpilot, go on company info, and you can see: over 75% of reviews that they took down, were reinstated by Trustpilot for NOT actually breaking community guidelines.

I have had a good experience studying data science with HyperionDev. I chose the 6 month part time online option as it made the most sense while working full time. It has been great choice as I had full flexibility in when I could complete the studies and tasks. The first two levels are quite straightforward as the course material is very thorough in teaching you the basics. Mentors mark tasks quickly and give individualized feedback which is greatly appreciated. The third level - Machine Learning, is quite a bit tougher as the tasks are a little more taxing. However, as a student, you can book a call with a mentor to go over the difficulties you are facing within the tasks. Their assistance is invaluable in helping you to understand the content. HyperionDev was also very accommodating to me when I was unable to complete all the tasks within 6 months due to the birth of my son - they provided course extensions without me having to pay extra for the extension. -

The course content is good for beginners who have just entered the tech space and lack practical experience coding. And the mentors are very helpful and detailed in their explanations and lectures. But to be honest, the Joburg campus is a bit understaffed which forces students to be more self reliant when solving problems that aren't too challenging. And since Django happened to update it's framework during my course, completing Level 2 became more time consuming since our mentors had to relearn parts of Django with us students.
Other than that it's a decent course for people who don't know how to code, just be ready to not have a social life for those 3 to 6 months.Melanie of HyperionDev

With this self-paced course, you get engaging lessons, expert instructors who make even the most challenging software engineering topics simple, and an excellent resource for getting a head start on your career. The tasks are explained well and give you enough information to complete them. The course also encourages you to do research and develop your own solutions to the tasks. -

I do not recommend this institution, there is better content in Udemy courses for way less than a Quarter of the price. The structure of the course is unorganized as lessons are only taught after you are required to do the task. The chance of you getting an entry level job is very low after doing the course as they do not teach you enough content. The mentors are overworked with meetings booked weeks in advanced, and there is an average of 1 - 2 weeks wait time for assistance as there are no slots open. Assistance is basically none existent. I do not blame the mentors as they have a number of students to mark. I blame the institution for biting off more than they can chew. Having finished the course more than a year ago, I did not have enough experience to do the job that I have now. I spent days studying and learning off Udemy courses and other sources which gave me the knowledge and confidence to do the job. -

The experience was good although there are a few things that I was abit unhappy with. I felt the communication was abit slow, perhaps due to the amount of students versus the mentors, but it did slow me down abit because it took a while to get help when I was stuck. As someone who did not know anything about Software Engineering, The Hyperion dev team involved in the Software Engineering Course was extremely helpful. Not only did they make it easier to understand , they also were very interactive with their learners . The only down side I have is that, the dates of the submission for the tasks are to little . Some tasks are quite big and require a lot of time and they only give you like 2 days to complete it. Besides that , My experience was quite good.Melanie of HyperionDev
