Devmountain is a coding bootcamp that offers short, full-time in-person and online programs in Web Development, Software Quality Assurance (QA), Cybersecurity, and User Experience (UX) Design. The programs are designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the tech industry. There is a Devmountain campus in Lehi, Utah for those who want to participate in-person. Devmountain's immersive courses require 40 hours of class per week, and 10-20 hours of work outside of the classroom. The part-time programs require 11 hours of class per week, and 10-20 hours of work outside of the classroom. The school was started in 2013 in Provo, Utah.
The Web Development track covers front-end and back-end engineering (JavaScript, HTML/CSS, AJAX, Axios, React, Bootstrap, Node.js, Express, and PostgreSQL). The User Experience course covers prototyping, visual/motion design, Figma, UX research, and wireframing. Devmountain instructors are all coding industry professionals and aim to bring real-world applications into the classroom.
Devmountain is beginner-friendly and no experience is necessary to apply. The first step to applying for Devmountain bootcamp is to check out the courses and start dates. Once the student has picked a course, they must submit an online application. Next, students speak with a member of the admissions team by phone to further discuss the program. After the phone call, students must complete a challenge to ensure the program is a good fit. Finally, the admissions team will notify students if they qualify for acceptance.

I got what I wanted out of it.
I took the iOS development course at DevMoutain. I learned alot and I have seen others learn as well. The mentors are great and helpfull.
Some of the reasons I wanted to take the class was to have uninterupted time to develop my skills without being iterupted by other priorities. I also wanted the mentorship to help direct me in what I needed to learn. Like most things, you get what you put into it. I definatly took advantage of the time here. Several nights I put in 15 hr days ...

If you are thinking about starting, I would recommend it. I would also recomment learning the basics of swift before you sign up for the class. There is a lot to learn the first week, but If you know the basics of swift, it will be easier to grasp.

The fact that the course was only 13 weeks was another big plus. I wanted to be done, and be working on my own projects and looking for a job. So this course gave me what I was looking for.

Intense, fun, worthwhile
After completing Devmountain's Coding Basics course, I promptly enrolled in the 16-week full time React Web Development Boot Camp. I knew of people who had taken this specific course and obtained employment immediately post-graduation. They encourage you to continue to reach out after graduation and offer to help during the job search. I didn't realize the tech job market would be so difficult to get into at this time, but I know that if I continue to utilize Devmountain's resources, staff, and instruction, I should be able to find tech employment soon.

The Best Kind Of Education
My experience at DevMountain was extremely positive. A good decision
I really enjoyed attending DevMountain. Personally, I felt like the structure of things were much better in the first half, and that the online content during specs did not match super well with projects, but I am still glad that I did it. My main critique would be that for the portion that was online and without a dedicated instructor, if the videos followed course material that they were made for it would have been much better. Part Time Students
Foundations is amazing, Garrett and two mentors who are Matt and Nathan. It was every Tuesday Thursday night and every other Saturday. Every other week was self learn and then the next was lectures. To give you a bit of an insight of my life i am a busser at a local brewery so i had more than enough time on my hands to deep dive into certain aspects so the course work for me was great and i had plenty of time.
The Switch To Full Time
First off I had time on my hands like no other. I had my foundations so learning python was a nice ease into things at first. But then after the excitement of making a killer project in foundations my schedule was lacking and i had no sense of urgency to finish. You just got a bunch of videos to watch and assignments due whenever you complete them... there were no due dates in Part Time Specs unlike foundations you had a unit review due every 2 weeks. That's really my only gripe, I just had wished specs was more like part time foundations. And so I had a conversation with an awesome counselor at Devmountain and they helped me switch within like 5 hours. I can't say this will happen for you so be wary of trying this and i don't recommend it either. I could've done the full time all the way through i just needed to realize it first!
Full Time
Full time was amazing. Fast paced, detailed, fun, difficult, frustrating, and rewarding. All of those are good things. When learning you need direction, or at least i do. I like to feel accomplished and so i did. I was able to push myself and my instructor pushed me. I can't say how much this program has already changed my thinking about school and my love for learning has been re-energized.
Outcomes/ Job Assistance
Since i just graduated they gave us a plethora of information about obtaining a job, networking and more. Taylor helped me build my resume, LinkedIn profile and scripts to get inspired off them. The Outcomes team is truly a great feature and felt as if they cared as much as i care. In which I care a lot!
Messages to future Software Engineers. Make Friends during your cohort, most of them want friends too. I made around 4 solid friendships we talked a lot, encouraging one another and helping eachother grow.

Wow! Where to even begin? First, we cannot thank you enough for this comprehensive review of your Devmountain Python bootcamp experience. You offered a lot of practical advice and name-dropped some of our favorite instructors and mentors, which is always fun to see and much appreciated.
Every learner is different and brings a unique set of circumstances, yet we hope others will find inspiration in your drive to take control of your learning and work with our counselors to set up an ideal environment and schedule within which you were able to thrive. While not everyone will have the flexibility, say, to shift from part-time to full-time, we do encourage all students to work closely with their instructors, counselors, and peers to make the most of their time and shape the experience to their learning style to the extent practical. You're right to suggest your experience won't work for everyone and, at the end of the day, bootcamps are intensive learning environments that require a lot of focus and personal accountability, but we do try to help everyone along as best we can while managing the needs of the whole cohort. All this is to say that the differences between full-time and part-time you bring to light are very real, and we hope to be able to offer the right pace for people's circumstances.
We also cannot say enough about our incredible Outcomes team and are pleased that you took a moment to share your appreciation for their work.
Though there is so much to talk about in your review, the last point we'll react to is your comment in bold about making friends. While individuals come to Devmountain to learn to code, the people that you meet are a hugely important and sometimes overlooked part of the experience. Yes, we take pride in our education staff, but your peers in the cohort can become part of a lifelong network and even close friends who can not only help during bootcamp, but become advocates for your success after graduation.

I'll just start out by saying, I really love Devmountain. The tuition is about $10K where most other bootcamps I looked into were around $13-15K starting. I loved every bit of the Foundations half of the program. You get to build a full-stack application! The curriculum is very well laid out, and I had a lot of resources available to me. There was tons of help available to me, and my instructors/TAs were outrageously helpful.
At first, I hated the format of the Specializations ha...I'll just start out by saying, I really love Devmountain. The tuition is about $10K where most other bootcamps I looked into were around $13-15K starting. I loved every bit of the Foundations half of the program. You get to build a full-stack application! The curriculum is very well laid out, and I had a lot of resources available to me. There was tons of help available to me, and my instructors/TAs were outrageously helpful.
At first, I hated the format of the Specializations half (it's very independent learning with support from a tech-lead). But, I'll be honest, by the end of those 8 weeks I feel very prepared to learn on my own, without a teacher holding my hand the whole way. It was just growing pains.
I did have some issues with the curriculum for the Specializations half of the Data Analytics program, because I think I would've liked a week or two of learning things like Data Scraping and other visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI or even just Excel (course is set up for Python & Jupyter Notebooks). I was also hopeful for a little bit more in the way of utilizing SQL within a real database. That said, my tech-lead listened to all of my feedback and although couldn't just change the entire curriculum mid-cohort, he gave coding challenges or instruction that helped fill in those gaps for me. It was a very generous thing to do, and I'm very grateful!
I liked the Outcomes team and that they took time to meet with students individually to go over resumes, LinkedIn profiles etc. They are still available to you even after you graduate which is really cool.
I really believe that Devmountain is there to help you! What you put in is absolutely what you get out of the program. And I do feel empowered with the tools and skills necessary to begin a career as a Data Analyst.Andrew of Devmountain

Thank you for taking time to share a summary of your experience at Devmountain and for the feedback you provided along the way and in this review. Our instructors do strive to respond to feedback and provide as catered an experience as practical within the curriculum to ensure students get the most out of their education, but just as important you've pointed to opportunities to build in additional or alternative material moving forward. We do take these recommendations seriously.
For example, others have expressed a similar concern about the transition from Foundations to Specializations. It is indeed our sincere hope that the intensity of the Foundations portion builds and fortifies that learner's mindset to adapt to the change quickly and be able to apply technical and problem-solving skills to tackling the material. Thank you mentioning that! Of course, everyone learns differently so it is so important for students to take full advantage of the educations staff (and, later, the career support Outcomes team) while learning, to ask questions, build in checkpoints and motivation, or whatever is needed to learn effectively.
Lastly, you're right about the cost. Access and affordability are important features of our program, but we also pair that with all the instructor and Outcomes support you mentioned. Great Experience at DevMountain

This is great as you get to practice what you were instructed on in the lecture. In Specializations you do not have an in person instructor but are learning from video lectures that come from Udemy. When I attended it was Pluralsight. This could be a negative thing if you chose to look at it that way or it could be a positive. As a current Software Engineer in the field, very rarely do I have an instructor. I am mostly learning by doing and by researching documentation or watching tutorials etc. The exact same thing you will do in Devmountain Specializations. I have not attended any other bootcamps and cannot speak for their outcomes team but the one at Devmountain when I attended was amazing. I think most students underutilized them when I was there. They cannot do the work for you or get you a job but they can certainly give you advice and tools to succeed. For me personally this was one of the best parts of bootcamp. I had multiple interviews with companies before I even finished the program as I took everything from their weekly lessons and applied it.
A VERY STRONG word of advice to anyone going to any bootcamp. Come prepared! Spend at least 2 -3 months on your own studying, practicing and researching material that you will be learning. If you show up without putting in any work beforehand you will most likely find it extremely difficult to keep up as the information comes quickly and ramps up in complexity really really fast.Andrew of Devmountain

This is such a thoughtful and humbling review of our course. Thank you so much for taking the time to post it, for taking the leap to enroll in bootcamp, and especially for joining us in-person. While we continue to offer remote, online education to students from all over the world, our in-person bootcamp experience remains close to our heart for the real-life collaboration and advantages it can offer certain learners and learning styles—so your kind words are very welcome.
Of course, you have called out a dimension of some of our curricula, namely the asynchronous learning via Udemy once entering the Specialization phase. We hope that shift doesn't come as a surprise, but know it takes some time for some students to adapt and we aim to be there to support that transition and continue to facilitate structure learning with accountability, even as you're asked to hold yourself more accountable. But you're right to point out the importance of taking full advantage of our staff, from the instructional team to Outcomes (aka career support) during your time in bootcamp and then as you're hitting the job market to pursue a career.
Lastly, we think your advice to come prepared is sound. While many of our students have never done any coding and we work hard to provide support and resources to keep the playing field level, it can indeed be very beneficial to come with a few foundations, whether that's Devmountain's quick four-week Coding Basics course to get a feel for coding and the bootcamp environment or, as you suggest, independent study via online resources or books to beginning getting into the programming mindset and developing a sense for the tools and "language," in general terms.
