Dissatisfied with the Full Stack Developer Course

The course layout is not very well structured. Going from 1 coding language to the next. You're constantly doubting yourself if you study in the right way. Worst of all, if you start to get behind, it's basically over. There's not a lot of support. The time schedule is basically holy. It seems like they want you to finish the course as soon as possible so they can welcome new recruits. It's like a factory and you're the product. I'm very disappointed and regret spending all my money on t...

    Dishonest about advisor qualifications

I recently did the five day challenge and after finishing I spoke to the a so called "education advisor" who was really just a salesperson! I found him on linkedin afterwards and he has a history in sales and no education training whatsoever. Shameful lies. Not signing up with a company willing to misrepresent their salespeople in this way just to get thousands of euros from customers.

    An ok course

Completed the C.I Full-Stack Diploma in E-Commerce Applications this year and overall when looking back, I can’t say I’m much more than moderately satisfied.

The course material is decent, but is in dire need of a massive update to keep up with other courses out there.
The cost of the course has gone up since I enrolled, and I don’t see the justification for it either.

The mentorship is a bit misleading as you only get someone to basically go over your projects with y...

    Hi there,

Thanks for your review. We’re sorry to hear that you weren’t entirely satisfied with your experience, however, we are delighted to hear that you have graduated. If you haven’t done so already, and if your goal was to change careers, we strongly advise you to get in touch with the careers team.
Regarding the content on our course, the technology and tooling that we use is always changing. The libraries the content depends on, and all the tooling we depend on are constant moving parts. This will occasionally introduce bugs in some content elements and workflows. We try to get ahead of these with first-line responses from our support team.
Regarding our mentors, our welcome pack explains that mentors are on hand to assist with projects and that there are a set number of meetings per project. They are there to help with project scope and offer advice on how to plan and approach projects. If other support is required, it is available through community and tutoring.
Thanks for your review, and once again, if you haven’t been in touch with the careers team - please get in touch.
    Kind regards,
    Code Institute Team

    Absolutely Horrendous!

I have currently been a "student" of this deplorable bootcamp for the past 4 1/2 months. I am also going through the bootcamp through Springboard which makes is absolutley free for me. Paying €8,000 for this course is the equivalent of throwing your money into the fire.
    1. The course is outdated. Several videos are 2-3 years old with a comment box above the videos saying how to "remedy" the issue. Which in my case mostly never works as the "remedy is often outdated aswell"

    Hi,
We are sorry to hear that you are not enjoying your time on the programme. However, it’s important to point out that we make every effort to ensure our students can progress through the coursework. This is why we have ample tutor support available, as well as student care and mentors to assist our students.
As is typical with technology, it changes and updates all the time, and sometimes, it is necessary to use temporary measures to allow for new content. However, the existing content is still accurate and relevant.
Our coursework is university credit-rated to ensure that what we teach is relevant to today’s coding workforce. While many of our students have completed our programme, using just our LMS, like with any other course, and like in the real coding world, it is often necessary to google information. This will be expected from you as a software developer.
Once again, it is disappointing to read that you are not entirely satisfied with the programme. Please feel free to talk to us directly if you feel you need extra support.
    Kind regards,
    The Code Institute team.

Diploma in Software Development (e-Commerce Applications)

I am a database developer working for over 20 years in this area. I love database development and I also love learning new things. I started learning web development some years ago, but I never worked professionally with it. So, I decided to take the Code Institute "Free 5 Day Coding Challenge" first and then I got accepted to the Code Institute "Diploma in Software Development (e-Commerce Applications)" course via Springboard.

From my experience and after completing the course, I...

    A fantastic course

I recently completed the the Diploma in Full Stack Development. It took me about 1 year to complete. I found the course fantastic from start to finish. The content and delivery was great. Be prepared to work hard - you have to put in the hours but it's well worth it. I did the course via UCD and got some support via Skillnet - I felt it was great value for money given the volume of the course. I did the course to upskill in programming rather than career change - I got exactly what I wan...

    Worthwhile and interesting course

My review is for the Diploma in Full Stack Software Development (E-commerce Applications).

I found the course to be interesting and to cover quite a lot of useful topics, particularly for someone like myself who is quite new to software development. There were plenty of challenging moments but overall I found it to be a worthwhile experience. Over the course of the diploma, you create 5 portfolio projects that range from HTML and CSS right up to a full-stack e-commerce applicatio...

    Do not recommend

I would not recommend this Full Stack course with the Code Institute to anyone due to my experience with them. I applied and took on the 5 day challenge , Unfortunately I hadto request 2 days extension due to my laptop breaking but that was granted until Monday I was told. Monday morning I submitted the completed challenge with a 100% mark.

First off , I will admit the lessons provided were very good and I learned the basics pretty quickly and it has inspired me to start a proper ...

    Hi,

We are sorry to hear you didn’t have the experience you expected on application to do our course.

Since you have posted this anonymously, we cannot identify your individual case. However, we would like to note a few things we feel are important.

Firstly, since you have not undertaken our programme we must point out that your review does not reflect our course. Unfortunately, we do not accept everyone who applies to our programme. Often, this can be down to a person’s abilities on the challenge, not just technically, but also timelines are important. This ensures students stick to a realistic schedule that would be required of them on the course.

We would be more than happy to talk to you personally about your issue. Please get in touch with the education advisor you were talking to, and they will be happy to discuss your case's specifics.

    Kind Regards
    The Code Institute Team

    Really worth the effort

Started the course in December 2020, I was brand new to the coding world and managed to successfully complete the course. I especially liked the support of the fellow students and the teachers. There are plenty of channels you can fall back on.
When I see what I have learned within a year and what help I have had with it, I am very happy that I did this.

    Not worth the cost

The short answer is the course is a full stack program, but it's absolutely not worth the money.

I completed approx 70% of the learning material and submitted 3 projects before deciding that the Code Institute boot camp was a waste of time.

Online boot camps have a lot of cheaper alternatives to contend with and that can present a problem for boot camps, who must have something special to bring them beyond someone seeking cheaper alternatives.

    Right from the get go,...

    Hi Keith,

It’s disappointing to read your thoughts on our Full Stack Software Development programme. However, some of your comments are unfair and incorrect.

Firstly, we would like to point out that our programme is incomparable to any free online coding course. We have set our standards very high and have had our course content credit-rated to a university level. We also offer unrivaled support from Student Care, Career Services, and Mentors. Our Tutors are available to advise students 24 hours a day, five days a week and from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Regarding your issues, we have highlighted some points below.

    • We receive very positive feedback on the HTML Essentials section of our programme, and it scores very highly. The requirements for the challenges may appear strict because we want to test what you’ve just learned in this unit, not what you may have already learned in previous units.
    • The Assessment Handbook on the LMS provides details of the requirements for each project and the criteria against which it will be assessed.
    • Mentors are available to bring their industry expertise and guidance to all students working on projects and a broad range of session times are accommodated.
    • We have an amazing Community on Slack that includes not only students, but also staff, mentors, and tutors. It is also very important to note that many of our alumni partake in our channels to continually help others through their journey.
    • Regarding our career crunches. The career seminars run live 2-3 times a week, generally at lunchtime. This time accommodates what our surveys have told us is the optimum time for most available students. Also, many of these seminars are recorded and available on-demand.

If you would like to discuss your project feedback or any other aspect of our course, please contact our Student Care team.

    Kind regards,
    The Code Institute Team.

    Great and impactful experience

I just completed Code Institute’s e-commerce path and the past year has been very impactful for me. The course was fully remote and I’ve been impressed throughout the course of how this was handled as it’s not easy to put together content, support, and networking opportunities for people across borders and in different time zones.

I am very satisfied with the outcome, and although you can technically learn all of this via other (free) paths you will not have the same support, nor...
