This November, two bootcamps announced acquisitions and $70 million was invested in alternative education. $70M IN FUNDRAISES & 2 ACQUISITIONS

  • According to Entrackr, edtech company and digital upskilling platform, Simplilearn raised $45 million led by GSV Ventures.
  • Simplilearn announced that it has acquired Fullstack Academy
  • According to Inc42, Masai School raised $10M in its Series B funding round led by Omidyar Network India.
  • The New York based Web3 company, Buildspace, raised $10M in a fundraise led by a16z.
  • BuildWithin raised $2.4M in pre-seed funding and $8M in US government grants for apprenticeships. 
  • Detroit-based coding bootcamp Grand Circus announced that it has been acquired by tech consulting firm, Digital Intelligence Systems (DISYS). 
  • Higher Ed Dive also reports that the 2U team remains optimistic about its future revenue numbers despite recent reports of flat revenue.
  • According to the Indianapolis Business Journal, Eleven Fifty Academy is currently figuring out what their non-profit school will look like in 2023. 

1 NEW ACCREDITED CODING BOOTCAMP

  • Codeup is now officially accredited by the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. 

TECH APPRENTICESHIPS IN AMERICA

  • Code Fellows will create a DOL-approved apprenticeship program, thanks to their recent partnership with tech talent provider, American Apprenticeships Work (AAW).
  • Paul Fain speculated in a recent issue of The Job about new trends in education since the November 2022 midterm elections.
  • According to CIO Dive, McDonald’s is set to launch its first registered cybersecurity apprenticeship program in the U.S.
  • Flatiron School has been selected by Amazon as an education partner for its Career Choice program, which provides hourly Amazon employees with pre-paid tech training. 

2 NEW WOMEN IN TECH PROGRAMS

  • Benzinga highlighted how online coding bootcamp, CYDEO, is helping moms make those career changes into tech. 
  • Coding bootcamp Northcoders has partnered with RotaCloud to offer scholarships and internships to help more women and gender minorities launch tech careers in the UK. 

4 NEW SCHOOLS & 1 NEW CAMPUS

  • Upright Education has partnered with Holyoke Community College and Springfield Technical Community College.
  • Upright Education announced a partnership with Kirtland Community College in Michigan. 
  • QuickStart announced a partnership with Texas Tech University to offer online tech bootcamps.
  • In India, OdinSchool announced it will begin offering a full stack software development bootcamp. 
  • Holberton School is launching a new campus in Mauritius, and the first cohort starts in February 2023.
