I had an amazing experience taking the full time web development course at UW. I didn't have any background in coding, but with the support from the instructor, TAs, tutoring team, and hours upon hours of study, I made my path to this line of work. It was not an easy task, it required hard work and dedication, and it payed off at the end.
The instructor was amazing and his teaching method not just made the materials understandable, but a deep understanding of why and how each line of code does what it does, plus, he kept the class atmosphere positive and fun at all times. The TA team were knowledgeable and great with going around and help students individually, and in groups, with a positive attitude and with the intent to lead students to the answer instead of giving the answer to the students. I had the utmost fun in the class, and I feel like I did learn a lot, and I'm ready to start my new career path in an ever growing industry.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I have absolutely loved and enjoyed my time at the boot camp. I enrolled myself at the bootcamp after a long maternity break which made me a little apprehensive in the beginning because I wasn't sure If I would be able to do it or not. Neverthless to say the entire staff of the UWB bootcamp - teachers, TAs, student coodinators, career managers and everyone else has been very kind, understanding, helpful, supportive and have given me my space to be able to mentally get ready and finish this course.
I had absolutely no knowledge or background of the entire course of material I have learned throughout the term, as my previous background was finance and banking. To be able to learn and become a full stack web developer has been a big achievement. Also, having a different background helped in making different kinds of projects without having to spend more time on research.
Our instructors and TAs are part of a very big reason why we were able to accomplish this feat today. No one refused for any kind of extra help. They would also go above and beyond in trying to help us whether be it staying outside of office hours, replying to messages from home, setting up video tutorials for diffiicult or popular topics, sending tones of extra material and resources etc.
I also liked the way the curriculum was set up. Though it might seem confusing in the first class or so, but the key is to stay consistent and keep reviewing all the topics learnt in class. The lesson plans are build on the previous ones so its actually easier to review and keep on track of what's happening. I have recently started my conversations with our career manager for job assistance and so far the experince has been very helpful and pleasent and I am sure it 'll continue to be the same in the next couple of months.
Overall, I would defintely recommend this boot camp for anyone looking for a fresh start, portfolio enhancement or a challenge in the IT industry.

I'm a new UW Coding Bootcamp grad and took the class from May to November 2019 which was the 24 week class.
This class was stupendous. The instructors were knowledgable and we learned very valuable, real world programming languages/frameworks such as Vanilla JavaScript, jQuery, MySQL, MongoDB, and React.
Some additional great things about the class were:
- The assignments. There were no tests but you did need to test in websites you created using such technologies as GitHub and Heroku. With Heroku we deployed websites that included MySQL and MongoDB databases.
- Group projects. We did three group projects and that was very valuable experience, including how to use GitHub while working on multiple computers at the same time.
- Algorithms. We focused on JavaScript algorithms and usually did them before class. Also, we had a week on algorithms and discussed Big O nation (optimizing algorithms to run faster).
- The cost. As of May 2019 I paid under $11,000. Yes this a lot but it less expensive than other bootcamps out there like Coding Dojo. You can also pay this as you take the course as it doesn't need to be paid all up front.
Some improvements for the bootcamp could be:
- Cutting some technologies from the curriculum, like Firebase (a Google database). I don't believe that Firebase is used most places. However, it is an easier database to use.
- Focusing more on job-interview JavaScript algorithms. For example, going through algorithms or getting resources for interview like at Amazon.
Good luck with your search!

The UW Coding Boot Camp (Full Stack Web Development) offers full time and part time courses in downtown Seattle and Bellevue. I attended the 24 weeks, part-time evening course in Seattle. I started on June 5th 2019 and graduated on December 5th 2019.
I have been hearing about the high demand for Web Developers for the last few years and that the demand will continue to grow for the next few years. I thought I should give it a try. The internet always fascinates me and I have always wanted to be a Web Developer. I wanted to know the inner workings of the web sites I visited daily. I had been a successful small business owner in the automotive industry for the last 20 years and had decided to retire from it recently, and I thought this is the perfect time to make my dream of becoming a Web Developer come true. So, I started researching for a coding school in the Seattle area. After a month of contemplating and comparing various coding schools in the area, I decided to enroll in the UW Coding Bootcamp. My decision was based on: quality and brand name school, cost, tuition installment payment option, and availability of part-time evening classes. The part-time classes allowed me to continue my apartment rental /real estate investment business.
My experience with the boot camp was generally very good though my feelings had been up and down the entire course of the program. It was no doubt a very intensive program and very challenging for someone who had no prior programming or coding experience. Before the course started, I was very gung-ho and couldn’t wait to start. The first month was great- we did mostly HTML and CSS. I pretty much understood most of it. Then came JavaScript, and that was when things started to get blurry for me. I began to question myself why I enrolled in the program. I saw how knowledgeable some of my classmates are and I began to lost confidence in myself. To be honest, I thought of quitting a few times. I talked to the instructor and the TAs and they all kept telling me to hang in there and that things will get better. By that time, I was at a crossroad-quit and disappoint my kids and waste my money or to continue and see if things will change for the better. When I started the program, I wanted to be a good example to my kids so they can aspire to be good students. Afterall, I always tell them to work hard and to get good grades. Quitting was definitely not an option. I kept telling myself that I have to hang in there no matter what the outcome may be. So, I spent countless hours in front of the computer pouring over videos, articles, and reading books on coding. By that time, my wife was complaining that I was always in front of the computer and she thought I was been lazy. My kids probably felt neglected too. But I can’t quit, that’s not me, I am not a quitter. Now that I graduated and looking back, I am glad I stuck with it and I am glad the instructor and the TAs kept telling me to hang in there. I am so thankful for them.
My favorite aspect of the program is the chance to be among such wonderful teaching staff and my fellow classmates. Just about everyone was very supportive of each other and they never ceased to help each other in class. Our instructor, Arron Linton was the most caring instructor I ever had. He spent countless hours helping me and other students, sometimes late in the night after class was over. In addition, Arron would do extended office hours at very convenient time. That’s what I call; going above and beyond call of duty! All the teaching staffs genuinely want the students to succeed. Also, having a personal tutor (included in the program) once a week was definitely a great help. I wish I had taken advantage of this earlier in the program.
What I got out of this boot camp:
- A certificate from a renowned institute of higher learning- The University of Washington
- A network of industry professionals
- An invaluable skill in Web Development with a better understanding of JavaScript and the internet
- An experience building apps as a team
- The skill of stress management
My advice to anyone who wants to sign up for the coding boot camp are:
- Minimize distractions by getting your finances in order
- Get full support from your family
- Start studying before the program starts.
- Get all your personal stuffs done before class starts because you need as many hours as you have-It’s hard work and it requires dedication.
- Stay healthy
- Be positive and don’t give up
- Always try to keep up and don’t fall behind
- Don’t compare yourself to other students who have a background in computer programming or have prior coding experience.
- Believe in yourself.
- Research and compare schools.

I graduated the full stack full time program a month ago, and I can firmly say it was worth it. Going in I had some experience with programming, and I'd been taking udemy courses on Javascript, so I was unsure if I should spend the big chunk of change necessary for the bootcamp, or if I should just keep going through the cheaper online courses. But looking back on it I am so glad I did go with this program...they move incredibly quickly through the curriculum, so it's hard work, but each section builds on the previous material, so it's constant reinforcement of the various skills. Plus, the teaching staff and other students are a powerful resource. Without them it would have taken me many, many times longer to learn the same skills, and much less comprehensively.
That said, it's important to set a couple expectations: you won't learn everything in extreme depth. You'll be laying the groundwork in front end, back end, APIs, servers, databases, etc, but continuing to learn on your own is absolutely necessary too.I did knock them down to 4 stars on "instructors", simply because there was some inconsistency. Some of the TAs were absolutely stellar, and able to reliable point me in the right direction, and some were much shakier it terms of depth of knowledge. But all were wonderful to work with.

My overall experience with the UW Full-Time bootcamp was a good one, though I do have some points to share with potential applicants. One being, when they say the program is a lot of work, they mean it! Having a BA and other certifications as well as having several years of work under my belt going into this, I thought I knew what working hard long hours looked like. This reset the bar. Expect to work every night and weekend, with very few exceptions, if you want to do well. That being said, I went into this class as a true beginner, so if you have experience you may find the work to take less time.
This class is marketed to all experience levels, as well as to Project Managers. My next point of feedback is that I somewhat disagree that that’s appropriate. 100% you will get more out of this class if you have at least some HTML, CSS, and GitHub experience, and have dabbled in at least one formal programming language (JavaScript especially). If you can take some side classes at a community college to get familiar in any of those prior to the class, you would get a lot more out of it.
From the PM perspective, this class really doesn’t teach you anything about how to manage a project. If you are taking this with the goal of becoming a TPM or PM in the technical world, expect to get your hands dirty working on projects, but don’t expect to be taught any formal frameworks or best practices. What is covered is stand-up meetings and the use of Kanban boards. On a high note, the completion of this bootcamp, in combination with my past work experience and PM Certification, has made me a competitive applicant and I have received a strong response from potential employers since completing the program.
I rated overall experience as a 4 because I expected to get more formal training from the PM perspective. I rated curriculum as a 4 because I feel it was too ambitious for a true beginner. The pre-work will not adequately prepare you for the pace and content of the course if you do not have previous experience. The instructors were fabulous with real-world experience in most cases. The job assistance (career coach) is marvelous and walks through your application materials and the application process in detail. If you sign up for the program, don’t wait to start this process; start talking to your coach early so that by the time you graduate, you can hit the ground running.

We appreciate you sharing your experience, Claire! It's great to hear you benefited from our entire team's assistance and are receiving positive responses in your job search.
Like you noted, this program will require a significant amount of time to truly understand and master the material. As such, we provide students with 30 hours of pre-work, and completely agree that beginners should familiarize themselves with some essential concepts before delving in; prior to classes beginning, we strive to emphasize and communicate the importance of this. We are always looking to optimize our offerings, so we appreciate your feedback.

I'm currently attending the UW Full-Stack Bootcamp program (spring/summer 2019).
The program is only halfway complete, but I've been really impressed by the quality of teaching, its curriculum, and the general structure of the course. The program packs a lot of learning into a very short timeframe, but the instructors and TAs are always available to help and they're genuinely interested in their students' success.
The class requires a very serious time commitment, but by the end of the program, you’ll not only have a solid understanding of the MERN stack but significant hands-on experience (both individually and part of a team) as well.
I’m a definite fan of the program and can’t recommend it enough for those who want to start a new career or update and strengthen their skills.

Computer Science teaches you the fundamentals, but not coding. I signed up for the UW Coding Boot Camp to help me get started in coding and help build up my skills further, and I was not disappointed. The program is challenging, demanding, but fulfilling; you get out what you put in. If you are looking for a program to push you and challenge you, this is the program for you. But, you won’t be alone in this journey, the support you receive from the instructional and support staff is amazing. I have worked in the restaurant industry since I was in high school, and I have been looking for a way out for years. I saw that the University of Washington had a full stack coding boot camp, something that I had been interested in for a long time, but never followed through with. Because this was from the University of Washington, I felt that it had a degree of legitimacy that other programs did not. I took a leap of faith and enrolled in the program.
I was terrified. I hadn't been to school in so long, and I never graduated from college. I decided that I would always be the first one to class, and that I would spend as much time as I needed to succeed in the program. The first day, Aaron, the instructor, saw my anxiety, and told me that I would be a developer. I didn't really believe him.
This class was not easy. I had to learn how to learn again; it's not the same as it used to be when I was in school. Everything is on the computer, there is a whole new vocabulary, and all the software was new to me. The level of support from the instructor, Aaron, and the TAs Arjun, Madeline, and Alex was great! Jen would answer my frantic phone calls and emails that I wasn't understanding and assure me that everything was going to be okay. I was assigned a mentor from a cohort before me who was helpful. I was also assigned a TA, Angel, who was definitely the reason that I was able to succeed. She explained to me all of the things that I wasn't understanding, and now I have a relationship with her where, even though she isn't my tutor any more, I have a contact in the tech industry that I can bounce ideas and ask questions of.
The pace was unrelenting. It seemed like every week we started a new topic. But after a time, I got used to the pace, and learned to integrate the concepts from the previous weeks into what I was working on then. My confidence grew. My ability to learn, research, and apply solutions found on the internet, from class activities, or from my peers to my own code grew with each week. I learned so much, and I now understand how to move forward.
I have been recruited to be a TA for an upcoming cohort of the UW coding boot camp. I am interviewing for jobs in the tech industry. Because of my experience in class, as my instructor said, I am now a developer, and it is going to make the greatest difference in my life!
In this class, you get what you put in, so come prepared to learn, and to spend all of your time coding. All of it. And when you emerge on the other side, you too, will be, a developer.

Over the past several years, I've had a pretty stable job but nothing that I was ever excited about. So I decided that I would start learning Web Technologies. My only problem is that I couldn't get started. I always had an excuse for not moving forward with additional education. Everything was so overwhelming to me. So back to my non-exciting job I went. I finally came to the realization that I needed to make a change. Enter the Bootcamp. I decided to take this route for a variety of reasons. Not least of which was the opportunity to have job coaching and be provided with the skills to apply in my chosen career path. I came into this wanting to change my life. I wanted to be put on a path to success so I can provide for my family both now and in the future. I'm so glad I did! The support has been absolutely tremendous. I have had weekly calls with my Career Coach. I've chatted over email with advisors who give me pointers on my resume. I've taken classes on interviewing and learning how to ask the right questions. I have weekly sessions with a Tutor who has helped me tremendously in my coding knowledge and ability. I continue to be amazed at the level of support offered (all of it lives up to the standards as advertised and then some). If I had one piece of advice for someone who is wavering on whether to join or not, I'd say run, don't walk to your computer and sign up! You will never regret learning new things. You'll hit a wall and think you just aren't going to get it. But just know there are countless others who have gone before you who experienced the same feelings. Furthermore, there are countless individuals who are there to lend an ear if that's all you need. So what are you waiting for?

When I first started plotting out a career change from retail operations into retail technology, I wasn't sure what my path would look like. I knew the tech stack that my teams were using and I knew there were plenty of ways to teach myself programming languages online -- what I didn't know was how to put it together in a real world context. This course included a practical, hands-on approach to the stack I wanted to learn, including time in person with other students. We practiced pair programming, working in small teams, and other key skills. By the end of the course, I was even able to build an iOS and Android app.
Most important of all, the confidence I have now is incredible. Before this program, I never would have felt comfortable building something and presenting it to a company. Now I'm pitching an idea directly to a company I admire and so far folks are incredibly receptive.

I want to start off by saying that the UW Coding Bootcamp exceeded my expectations. The main instructor, Arron, was genuine, easy going, and went above and beyond to ensure the class was getting the best experience. All of the TAs were easy to approach with questions and troubleshooting issues.
The course material was easy to follow, yet allowed for ample room to experiment with our own additions. Although I was taking the course while working a full-time job, the pace of the course and rigor of the assignments allowed me to succesfully submit quality work.
Although the bootcamp sped through some of the subjects quickly (i.e. React) I felt they provided me with a nice foundation to go out and continue exploring. I also enjoyed being a part of such a diverse class. Every student had a unique background and it made for a unique group project experience.

This was the best learning experience I ever had. I want to mention a couple names-- Arron Linton is impeccable with his skills and sense of humor. He's always willing to go the extra mile and follow up in office hours in case you need in-depth understanding of things. Jen Alexander is the best student success manager and is always willing to help you out with whatever it takes to succeed. And then come my TA's--they are excellent too. Available and ready to help in case you get stuck. Last but not least, the peers are a pleasure to work with as well--it was fun building projects with them. It's the perfect balance between in person and online. So in a nutshell, you get plenty of support while on your path to success. This class required a lot of determination and challenged me in ways I didn't know was possible, but allowed me to grow tremendously. Be ready to code for 20 hours / week outside of class. John Young really helps make learning to code
less intimidating. He shares his personal experiences and also identifies topics that are more challenging or confusing. He also provides a lot of additional material/websites to help explain a topic better. He is very kind to his students and empathizes with them. I enjoyed learning with him. His instructional staff is amazing. The TAs - Ben, Jessica, Nick, Lynna, and Jehyun are so knowledgeable and kind as well. I had a difficult circumstance during the course and the whole team was more than happy to work with my specific situation so I could learn the most. Spending out of class time on the prereads is a must to get the maximum benefit from this course.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I came into the UW Coding Bootcamp with no coding experience whatsoever and I ended learning cutting edge technologies and frameworks that I see all over the web and on job applications. The program started out poorly with the initial instructor not seeming to care much about the program. That instructor was then replaced by a couple subs and eventually someone named Tom McCarthy. Tom was one of the best instructors I've ever had - he cared about each student, was extremely knowledgeable, and provided extra resources outside of the course material to help us. Then, after the program, Jen Alexander our course coordinator sent out helpful emails related to potential jobs. Overall a solid course.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

The course overall was good, had a great learning experience with instructor Tom Mccarthy!
His teaching was easy to follow and all staff had a lot of patience, the tutoring each week also provide additional opportunities to learn more about the course.
But the course is very stressful, with only 6 months and 3 lessons every week, you need to put in a lot more time to study by yourself, and especially in the beginning, it is really hard to follow up.
Stay focused and keep trying, and eventually you will succeed!Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I loved the bootcamp. Alex was the most patient and understanding teacher, and there was nothing he couldn't help you fix in 10 minutes or less. Alex pretty much knows everything; definitely an expert in the field. TA's Jason and Lawrence helped me a lot too and they were awesome. If you take advantage of the before and after class office hours you are guaranteed to make the most of this bootcamp. Jen was amazing too. I could have easily fallen behind and not completed the course if she hadn't reached out to me personally and gave me her time to make a plan and catch up. It was clear that this bootcamp was not just after your money. They genuinely wanted you to succeed and they let you know! Also, the skills you learn are relevant skills only. There's no better way to expedite your learning than in this bootcamp because it was so hands-on.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

Highly recommend this course for someone with or without technical background. Our class had people from all backgrounds and the pace and material was manageable for both. Be prepared to spend the time doing your own research in order to keep up. The teaching staff (Peter, Ali, and Ben) were always available and more than happy to help answer questions. They made the class fun enough to enjoy attending even on Saturday afternoon. Will miss you all.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

My experience at the UW coding bootcamp was exceptional. The instructional team was very supportive and always made themselves available (even outside of class hours) to help answer any questions or help out when needed. Especially during project weeks! The course is very grueling but it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The pace of the class is non-stop and found it was so important to keep up with the homework on a weekly basis as you may find yourself feeling left behind as the course progresses. I found that having a weekly tutoring session on top of attending the pre-class/post-class hours was the most beneficial way to find solutions or get un-stuck on whatever issue I was having.
I am so grateful for the instructional team and the time they put into helping everyone understand the concepts and giving us the the best chance to succeed. I do not regret my decision to attend this bootcamp and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to change careers or further their education.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I never thought I would be able to begin learning a thing about web development. Every aspect of the course's curricula was challenging. Still, there was help along the way from Instructor John Young, the TA's Ben and Lynna, and the Student Success Manager Jen Alexander. Tutoring, class office hours, and time spent learning outside of class are required to ensure success in the program. The assignments and projects allowed a shared learning experience with a collaborative and competitive cohort. During the course, I could genuinely feel whether web development was something I could continue to learn. The instruction of the course is perfectly paced, and I thought that I eagerly needed to improve my comprehension to keep up. Overall, I believe the UW Boot camps, in collaboration with 2u's Trilogy Education Services, to be of the highest quality and an excellent coding Bootcamp to begin learning Full-Stack Web Development part-time.

Went on a part-time journey for SIX months of doing a Full-Stack Developer coding bootcamp through UW Seattle's Continuing Education! Three days a week, three hour class sessions (with 15min breaks), filled with a room of 30 for the March-Sept cohort.
Had a super fun experience and lucky to have been in this cohort with John Young as the instructor, and then Ben, Lynna, (+ other TAs who helped join in during projects) because they were super helpful and supportive!
The atmosphere and learning environment was comfortable and friendly, even with random breakout groups for activities, we were all able to learn even with our different skill levels. Loved using the bootcampspot site, easy to use and understand. All the intros for how things worked were helpful. The practice activities and slides were clear and helpful.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

The curriculum is current and relevant. The teaching staff is dedicated, patient, knowledgable and kind. The pace is fast, i spent probably 18-22 hours outside of class interacting with the material and completing homework/projects. You learn not just the code but the associated coding infrastructure that I found super helpful (git, mongo, heroku, etc). I got more practical experience in the course than independent studying from a book. I feel competent enough to continue practicing and studying code and actually building apps in a way independent study did not - so it was worth the time/money/blood/sweat/tears (there will be actual tears).Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

As a full-time employee, mother, wife, and part-time bootcamp student, I am very grateful for every support and learning experience I encountered through this course. The pace is as a bootcamp should be, but I am incredibly grateful that the bootcamp covered everything that a web developer should know.
Whether you're a total newbie, or have some experience...regardless of what you have under your belt, this class is amazing. With all of the support our entire class received from not only our instructor, Anthony Brown, but also from all of our TA's and an amazing tutor and sub-instructor, Phil Loy. They all made such a daunting and extremely hard experience seem so easy. They provided such a great amount of patience and understanding, and they made sure none of us are left behind.
With diligence, patience, and your willingness to learn, anyone can push through all of the difficult tasks handed to you in this bootcamp. For as long as you don't give up, there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel, and you will get to where you want to be from the moment you start this course.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I have enjoyed this bootcamp in so many ways. I have started as someone who had no prior knowledge about any of the material we covered to being able to build a full stack application. The instructional staff went above and beyond and has been supporting me with any problems I had. I still have a log way to go to improve my skills. You do have to study a lot outside of the class as it moves really fast with new material, even more than recommended. My advise is to ask questions constantly and stay on track with homework’s.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp
