Amazing people and amazing bootcamp

Overall my experience in this bootcamp was amazing. I learned a lot in these 6 months. There is obviously a lot more I still need to learn, but this bootcamp gave me a solid base to start on and is about as cutting edge as you can get.
There is so much I can say about the instructional team. They are phenomenal. They know their ish. They are incredibly supportive and will go out of their way and spend time outside of class to help you, and give you materials/links/articles outside of the curriculum that they believe will enhance your understanding. Thank you John, Ben, Lynna, Lexi, and other TA's and instructors that came through and helped out. The Student Success Advisor has your back 110% and Career Services is super helpful.
My only criticism of the course is also one of its strengths, and that is that it is cutting edge. GraphQL and Apollo Server and Client are very new technologies and it was actually the instructional team's first time teaching these technologies, that's how cutting edge this bootcamp is. So when working on a homework or project and you have a really specific problem, there might not be a thread out there on StackOverflow to help you out, or the instructional team doesn't have a clear and concise answer because they're almost learning about this at the same time as we are, and that is not their fault or anyone else's, this technology is just THAT new. This curriculum also gave us a week or 2 to learn these materials and then try and implement them in a project when I believe that we should have been given at least 3-4 weeks to learn this stuff, but I'm confident that they will adjust in the future.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

Thank you for your feedback, Jefferson. Like you said, the boot camp covers a broad curriculum to help learners stay competitive in their careers, which often includes tools and technologies that are relatively new to the market. We pride ourselves on teaching students not just the fundamentals, but also how to learn, so we're glad that you were able to build a foundation that allows you to continue mastering new skills.
Our staff is dedicated to helping students reach their educational and professional goals — we couldn't agree more that John, Ben, Lynna, and Lexi are fantastic at what they do. We commend your dedication to the program and wish you the best in all that you do! -

Great cohort - Really went above and beyond for student success!
I received a full-time employment opportunity during our first group project. My schedule became VERY busy and the TA's, instructor, class advisor, and multiple tutors I had available are the only reason I got through. I was ready to give up. These folks gave me extra time and extra opportunities for assistance to better fit my new, wild schedule.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I loved the curriculum and the support from John, Ben, and Lynna! They have all made the effort to get to know me and understand that life doesn't stop but they still pushed me to keep pushing myself to get better and were always willing to help! Ben held me accountable and I wouldn't be able to accomplish everything without him. Lynna would push me to find the answer myself and be resourceful. John would go out of his way and really emphasizes what he thinks is important and he genuinely cares about everyone.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I went into this bootcamp not knowing very much about coding nor the computer science behind it. But with each week passing by I found myself more and more interested in the new tech we covered. It became a full blown obsession and I don't think it would have been possible for the grow I felt in my coding journey if it weren't for Anthony (Class Instructor) and the rest of the curriculum staff. The course covers everything you need to get going from no knowledge to full-stack developer and they make sure that you have the utilities to do so.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I loved the program, everything about it was great. The Instructor and TA staff always went out of there way to help students understand the topics we were learning. I had previous experience with programming and this programs helped me connect some of those concepts that weren't making sense and improve my coding dramatically . I also experience first hand how many of my classmates just went from nothing to fulllstack developer in no time, and I can thank my instructor and the staff enough for all the effort they put to teach those who are in seek of a career change.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

"You only get one chance to live this life; and personally, I believe we all have a certain calling upon our lives. We can either believe and reach for it; or we can spend our lives in misery, running away from who we really are meant to be. Who are you: only you can answer that; because it is your choice. People stack up the circumstance of their lives as a deck of cards, playing the hand they were dealt, or worse, not playing at all, but I believe in a Way-Maker: where doors never existing, are built by having faith. GOD opened doors for me. I tried so, many self-taught courses, never really achieving my heart's desires, and I heard about UW Coding Bootcamp from a friend (at the time, I was trying to return to Code Fellows, ridiculously high in price, for what you can get in return, but I like them). At the time, they did not offer any online courses, nor something that fit with my former occupation; and I really could not stop working (sole-provider, with children), at the time. I also did not like the fact that I felt I did not get the help or support I desired (there were many of us, and we definitely did not have tutors, as UW Coding Bootcamp has).
Having a tutor makes a huge difference because it's one on one time (session time varies on the type of curricular program). I like my first tutor, but I became terribly ill (I almost died from a very, rare and non-contagious disease), where I was in the hospital for months, and keeping up with the concepts was difficult. My Student Success Manager, Jen (forever grateful), offered other alternatives, such as coming back at another time; but I knew that I could not, due to how the remaining of my benefits worked. She worked with me on devising a plan to keep up. I actually did catch up; but I then caught COVID-19, shortly after. I had already missed a great deal of work, and I was forced to run my own business due to the unethical practices of former employers. I met another instructor, who substituted for my teacher; and my peer told me that was her tutor. I really felt like I began to understand the classes, better. I spoke to my Student Success Manager, who assisted me with changing tutors- she even helped me get approved for an extra session, due to my extremely rare situation. She has been so, supportive along the way. I owe her, my tutors Faran, and especially Phil my extreme gratitude. I'm even grateful for my instructor, Anthony, and how he gets EVERYONE involved in our classes. I'm most thankful for the fact that all of them allowed me to learn until the very, end of the curriculum.
I made it to my final week, and our final project is looking really good. I lost several team members, and my instructor made sure my team had an assigned TA (teacher assistant) to assist us. He even stopped by my group's breakout room (online private rooms: for teams, to work alone, and for assistance) to see how we were doing, himself; and assisted us with the logic and functionality we script out. My current team members (since the beginning, really) always believed in ourselves, in spite of the odds. We say "We Got This! #WGT," or "Stronger, Together." We "learned how to learn" in this Bootcamp: my group is using several new technologies; which we were not even taught; such as TypeScript. Several, awesome people became Awesome, together; so, I made a friend or two (really, I made a lot: several had helped me catch up, using Google Meets, or Zoom, even call to joke around with me and say "What's up"). This is a safe environment; and I received a whole, lot, more than what I anticipated and hoped for. I have written my Senators and Several People of Congress, praising the staff and this boot camp; and I purpose in my heart to address the difficulties Veterans faced, equalized all demographics, bring more technology into ALL schools, by providing our governments certain solutions UW Coding Bootcamp named as the chief architect modal to follow and Use. In summation, it's worth the money; and you have to put in the time- they have so much to offer prior, during, and especially after Bootcamp; so sign up, today!

FULL-TIME, FULL STACK FLEX: A Chef's Journey
When my bar shut down because of lockdown measures I had a need to find a new career that was safe to the events of the world. I had experience coding for fun when I was younger and I decided to look deeper into the boot camps available to try and train for a new career.
This course was the most difficult and rewarding challenge I've had the pleasure to be a part of, and I can't say enough good things about my experience within the UW Full Stack Flex Boot Camp. I've always sought a challenge in learning and had a hard time finding it. The curriculum here was challenging and effective in teaching from the ground up. I hadn't coded for over a decade, since I was a teenager, and after the three months in this course I feel like I have been focused learning these languages for years.
THE TEACHER: Joe 'I-Wrote-a-Book-About-Manatees' Rehfuss
Joe is a fair and caring Teacher. I would recommend him to anyone who asked for so many reasons. He always came to class with a good attitude, even when reality would strike he organized the class structure in a way that was appropriate. There was an event of National importance one day and Joe, rather than pretend it was appropriate to continue, allowed us the day to take it in and understand what was happening for our own peace of mind. Noting that it's not effective to teach in an environment when everyone is questioning what's happening. Another time he had an emergency in his own life and I was proud of him for the way he handled it. Alerting us of the lesser details and ensuring our class was led by Denis for the day, who did a wonderful job picking up for Joe.
TEACHER ASSISTANTS: The Dream Team
Which brings me to the TA team. Denis, Zac, and Aslan were all extremely helpful in their individual ways. Each has their own strengths and assisted in ways that promoted greater understanding of the topics. Zac was my assigned TA and he went above and beyond to meet my needs. I had some health issues during the Bootcamp and Zac was one of the primary reasons I was able to recover and stay on course. Denis was one of the kinder souls I've met, he offered instruction and a presence that allowed our groups to calm the rough waters of swimming in information. He was able to pick up and assist the teaching of the class when necessary in a way that was conducive to the lesson plan Joe was focused on. On that note, Aslan was an incredible teacher in his own right. When helping with a problem he guided you to finding the answers yourself in a way that I found extremely helpful. His office-hours presentations were something I would tune-in for, grabbing some snacks and enjoying the show. Each TA helped in an incredible way and I am shocked at how effective they were for us.
SYNOPSIS: Should You, Shouldn't You
If you're looking for a challenge that offers as much as you put into it, you've found it. The plethora of information and skills to be learned in this course are remarkable. I wish I had the time, energy, and resources to take the class over-and-over just to keep brushing up in such a great learning environment. I can not recommend this course enough.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

Great Experience In Full Time Course

I just completed UW's Full Stack Course and am very satisfied with the program. The staff was great! There are structured office hours where you can get help from TA's or the Instructors and they are always happy to help explain something or work through a problem with you. I even had TA's or the Instructor answer questions on slack outside of the office hours. I am just starting to work with career services so don't really have anything to say in regards to that. I will give a fair warning. This is a high paced class and you should be prepared to spend 30 to 40 hours a week outside of class studying. If you have a part time job and are a very fast learner then you may be able to complete the full time course but the safe bet would be to take the part time course. Study your options and pick the right one based on your life circumstance. I have a friend who is currently in the 24 week course and he is working full time. There would be no way he would be able to do the full-time course but the 24 week course is working great for him as far as i know.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I've been curious about coding and web design for the past decade but never took the leap to explore it. I've been looking to switch careers for the year or so, when this course presented it's self I decided to take the leap. I had 0 coding experience prior to starting so I was pretty nervous to get started. This course will show you everything you need to know to get started while being pointed in a competitive direction.
The Instructor, T.A's, and tutors were very knowledgable and did a great job breaking complex systems down to manageable chunks for me. The classroom experience and group projects were great practice for working in an employer environment and working as a team. Definitely the best educational experience I've ever had and worth every penny as an investment for my future!

I spent a lot of time researching different bootcamps out there before deciding on the UW Coding Boot Camp and I was not disappointed. The course is packed with essential knowledge and skills you need to get yourself started in the tech industry. The pace can be fast for anyone who has little to no experience in progamming, but you have all the support you need to be successful. The instructors and TAs were amazing at what they do. You also have a student success manager, access to weekly 1-on-1 tutoring sessions and career services. I would recommend doing this full-time if you can afford to. This program is a great way to get started in a coding path, while having a community of students around you. My cohort was fully remote due to Covid, and it still felt like we had the camaraderie of an in-person class. Our instructor was great, the TA's are so supportive and respond to student questions with thorough answers or ways to find more information if it's something outside their wheelhouse. We learned the MERN stack (Mongo, Express, React, and Node) which is only one part of the web development ecosystem but gives you a great starting point to learn any other specializations you might be interested in.
When you register for the course, they provide a pre-work packet to help you get up to speed and into the right mindset to learn all the subjects that are about to come flying at you. I strongly recommend working through it, and keeping up on the assignments throughout the course. The system is super flexible about when things are due, but if you rely on that too much the end of the course comes up on you fast!Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I'm graduating from the UW Bootcamp last week. I very recommend this course for those who want to be a web developer or software engineer. I learned about the concept of programming and the way to use it. Furthermore, I learned almost all the technology that many developers are using, and the most thing is that I can learn a way how to learn new technology by myself. Also, there are really enthusiastic an instructor and TAs. They will help you whenever you are stuck in difficult things. Applying to this bootcamp was possibly the best decision I have made in my life. I have worked entry level positions for my entire life, mostly in the service industry, and never thought I would have the time or money to try to break out of this. A traditional college degree would take too long, and I felt I was too "old" for that. Last year, when Covid hit, I was lucky enough to be given the gift of time. I took the plunge, started boot camp, and changed my life.
This program is tough. They are supportive but not going to hold your hand and make it easy for you. You need to put in the time and effort, and can't rely solely on showing up to class to succeed. It takes a ton of hours outside of class to really learn this stuff. But the opportunities that come from this starting point are endless and it is worth it.
The teaching staff was so supportive. They crammed so much information into my head in such a short amount of time. It really is amazing to look how far I came in only 6 months. I had John Y as my instructor and he is amazing. I can't imagine any teacher could be better than him. He is truly invested in each of us succeeding and will do anything he can to help us get there. Our TA's (Ben V, Lynna O, Dan ME, Abdul A, and Catherine P) were equally invested in us, and brought their own experience to encourage us along the way. They really gave us their entire heart and soul when trying to teach and support us. You also will get access to a one on one tutor session each week, and my tutor was also very helpful. Each teaching staff member brought a different perspective and experience, so being able to absorb a large cross section was really great for learning such tough concepts.
Due to Covid, my cohort took place virtually, so my class size was gigantic. There were about 70 of us at the start, and about 50 of us made it to the end. Having a huge group of people to bond with and learn from was a great experience, and now I have a great network to start out with. The other benefit of a virtual program is my classmates were not restricted to living in Seattle, like an in person program would be. So I have met people from all over the country, which is also great for networking.
I think that this program has great value. I compared it to a few other programs, but decided on this because it was affordable but still taught a lot of applicable skills. My partner is a working software developer and has made many comments along the way that the skills and lessons we've learned are really good for the actual positions we will be seeking after graduation. Many other developers I have met socially have been impressed at the tech we learned and projects we created when looking at our experience level.
If you are thinking about doing this class, and you're willing to put in a lot of time and work, then do it. You get out what you put in, and it is a great jumping off point for changing your life path.
And if my Instructional Team ever sees this review, thank you thank you thank you. Together, we've changed my life.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I can't speak highly enough for the Instructor and TA's we had for the fall 2020-2021 Tuesday Thursday, Saturday part time full stack web dev class. They exceeded my expectations, and put in an incredible amount of effort and have been known to sacrifice some of their personal time to be able to support their students. The program itself- the curriculum, it is thorough and has a great scope. The student success part of the program was a little odd, I would recommend not putting too much weight into that. Otherwise, what a great experience. It is hard. It will be a lot of work, it will require a lot of time. Don't expect to do much else except for work and code, if you are balancing both. The sooner you get your hands on the keyboards, the better. Fail until you succeed, and learn along the way. Would recommend, but be prepared for putting in time, effort, and personal sacrifices. I will not forget my instructor or the TA's for awhile, they really were incredible.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

As a recent business administration graduate interested in finance, I have always been passionate about learning how to unfold hidden opportunities behind numbers as well as being able to accurately analyze the outcomes. I knew that learning Python and being able to implement it to the field of finance is an essential skill to become more competitive in today’s job market. That’s why I became very excited when I came across UW FinTech Bootcamp course and immediately submitted my application.
When I applied to the course, it was going to be in a physical setting at the University of Washington’s Bellevue campus, however, after Covid-19 precautions escalated they had to change it to online. I first thought the transition was going to be somewhat negative but I was truly impressed by the online platform and communication channels that allowed for perfect continuation of the learning process.
My 24-week part-time FinTech Bootcamp experience was amazing that went over and beyond my expectations. Looking back to the first week of bootcamp now, I am stunned with the improvement I have made from a real beginner’s level. Of course, this is not an easy program, you will have to push yourself and get your hands dirty. You may even come to a point where you want to throw your computer out of the window… However, don’t worry because you definitely have everything you need under your hands to be successful as long as you have the desire and curiosity to keep going. Thanks to the great instructor Gerrit Hall, and exceptional TAs Samantha Brimberry and Matthew Danko, you are greatly supported. They were always on-hand, eager to help and provide support. Not one question went unanswered! My learning experience was not only limited to UW’s staff but also the perfect environment in which a very diverse group of individuals from different age groups and industries were collectively discussing, collaborating and executing group projects together. This diversity added to the uniqueness of my learning experience in the sense that I got a chance to be exposed to different perspectives from different industries. Another very beneficial aspect of the UW FinTech Bootcamp was the career services offered. Our student success manager Jen Alexander has supported the learning experience and ensured we had what we needed to be successful in this program. Every week there were around 3-4 optional webinar sessions about different talks in the fields that you may be interested as well as interview preps, resume/cover letter editing sessions. This 24-week FinTech Bootcamp was a tailored experience perfectly matching my expectations and goals. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a desire and determination to learn about Financial Technology solutions and Python programming language and many more resources to expand your skill set. Thank you, Eren! We appreciate you choosing our boot camp to become more competitive in today’s job market. Like you noted, your cohort did experience a disruption due to COVID-19 that resulted in your studies transitioning online. We're happy to hear this unplanned change was delivered successfully and that you benefited from the virtual format.
You're completely right that this is a challenging program, one that will require you to push yourself and get your hands dirty. It's great to know you found our entire team supportive throughout your learning journey and couldn't agree more that Gerrit, Samantha, Matthew, and Jen are all pretty fantastic.
We continually work hard to provide an inclusive and collaborative space where individuals from various backgrounds can study and learn a wide range of skills, so we're glad you enjoyed working on projects with your group of classmates. A Little About Me:
Just a short 2 months ago, I was working in staffing and saw my growth opportunities in that space dwindle. I came to this exact site (Course Report) to look at reviews on the UW Full Stack Development Bootcamp. I found some folks on LinkedIn who had left reviews and reached out to them. They told me about their experiences in the course (all overwhelmingly positive), and it convinced me to take the leap and enroll.
I cannot express how happy I am with my decision to enroll in this program. Below I broke it into some sections and wrote some details on my thoughts:
GENERAL:- My instructor was Joe Rehfuss:
- Absolutely amazing instructor, not a single complaint
- My class was virtual:
- Again, no complaints. It was over Zoom and that was almost more convenient for me
- You get out what you put in.
- Cost is cheaper than what I saw on other bootcamp sites (General Assembly, Flat Iron, etc)
- That's not to say the program is cheap but it is worth every dollar
CLASS/HOMEWORK:- Content:
- Get ready to learn A LOT. It sounds scary but I promise anyone can do it!
- Class Structure:
- Really good balance of instructor demos and then breaking off and applying that concept in groups
- Pace is quick (but there is a lot of support to keep you caught up). I kept a Google Drive where I took notes every day that I could reference back to
SUPPORT:- You get SO MUCH support from the staff in this program
- Instructors and TAs
- The real MVPs, they put in 150% to make sure you succeed
- with you every day during class and office hours
- Student Success Manager:
- Makes sure you on the right path to graduate
- They help answer any general questions
- Materials Advisor:
- over the course of the program, you can submit resumes, portfolios, brand statements, etc
- The material advisors provide feedback on the documents you submit
- Career Advisors / Directors:
- Meet with them towards the end of the program and after graduation and they help prepare you for entering the workforce
- If you complete all your "employer ready" requirements, they can also refer you to companies in their network
- Tutoring:
- I think you get like two free tutoring sessions a week. Admittingly, I didn't take advantage of this but I've heard classmates discuss that they found a lot of benefit from this
- Instructors and TAs
Again, I can't recommend this course enough!

This was the first time I had taken a course that I truly enjoyed every minute of. Joe, Denis, and Clint were a hell of a great instructional team and worked their hardest to make sure that all of the topics were laid out and understood. Though the Full Stack Flex full time course was indeed rigorous and required a lot of time outside of class it was made easier by the team mentioned above, the other students in the class, and the tutor system. I thought the overall structure of the content was well laid out and flowed exceptionally well building off of itself. As a whole I would absolutely suggest, and I already have, to others to take this course who have any interest in Web Development!Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

MERN Full Stack Part Time Program

This course lives up to it's title of "bootcamp". This is a difficult program! If you are like me and have no prior experience in web development or coding, you will struggle! You will question what you had gotten yourself into and if you will make it through the end of the course. However, through the late nights of hw, frustration, tears and struggle, you will learn so much! I look back at the tremendous knowledge I've learned. From the first days of writing bare bones HTML to the full stack MERN & SERN applications I am creating. I, without a doubt, have come a long way.
Due to the nature of the curriculum, I would recommend to any future students (without any prior web development or coding backgrounds) interested in this course to find a good balance of work and school. This full stack part time course is marketed towards potential students that wants to continuing working full time time hours and do school part time. For me personally, I determined 2 weeks into the program, that working full time and doing this course would not be feasible if I wanted to graduate. I ended up dropping down to just 2 days a week for work. Because of my lack of exposure to coding, I found myself coding anywhere from 5-10 hours a day. In addition to work and school, I also have a toddler to take care of. I am very grateful that my wife was very understanding of my situation. She certainly was my biggest supporter! To anyone with a full time job and a family that wants to take this course, be sure to have solid conversation on how to best balance everything. Your success for this course depends on a refined work, family and school balance!
For the course itself, you learn nearly 2 dozen technologies! Everything from the core foundation of HTML, CSS & Javascript to the backend and database technologies like Jquery, SQL, Mongo, etc. In the last few weeks of the course, you tie everything together into a React full stack application. You learn new content with each new class day. It's so fast that sometimes you don't have enough time to process it all in between class days. Where you practice these new learned things are on your hw assignments. You will have a hw assignment due every week. With the exception of project weeks. This course has 3 projects that are required to graduate. It is structured as a small-group project and you implement the technologies you have learned from the few weeks prior. For any future students, my biggest recommendations are to stay on top of your hw! This is where you'll get a chance to practice your newly learned technologies. Also be sure to turn them in on time. Do not get behind on hw as this will create a great deal of stress while attempting to turn in all the assignments right before the end of the course. All the hw assignments and the 3 projects must be submitted in order to graduate! I would also recommend going to office hours before and after class. Your instructors and TAs are your biggest assets when trying to understand the course material. I have spent many late nights reading documentations and stack overflows without any success of understanding or implementing the code. Sometimes you just need your instructors or TAs to put it into simpler context and examples that you can understand.
For the instructional team. My class was very fortunate to have Alex, Dan, and Marlon for instructors. These instructors have so much knowledge on web development and coding that it is truly amazing! They know the material and explain things very well. They were always very supportive and always willing to help with assignments and projects. They never just did the code for you. They always guided you towards the answer and explained how they came to that conclusion. I was also amazed at how patient they were when teaching the material. I certainly had days were I just didn't understand the content and kept having to ask questions or get help. I'm sure I came off as the guy that asked questions too frequently or maybe the guy who just didn't get it. But I never felt that way because they were always willing to help and acknowledged that the material is hard to understand. After all, they have endured the same struggles that we were experiencing at the time. We are all grateful to Alex, Dan and Marlon for the support and knowledge that they have provided to us.
Overall, this is a great course! Be prepared to put in some serious work. If you plan to take this course and have no coding experience, I would recommend getting a solid head start on the material. Find some time to learn the basics of HTML, CSS, and Javascript. This will give you a head start on the course material and hopefully put you in a better position to learn the later technologies of the curriculum. If you decide to commit to taking this course, be sure to really put in your time and effort. You will rejoice in the feeling of successfully completing this course. You will come out of the course with great amount of knowledge and you will be better prepared to enter the job market of web development and coding.
Good luck and happy coding!Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

Was a 6 month coding boot camp to learn how to become a full stack developer. COVID-19 hit at the very beginning of it and the boot camp switched to online rather than in person. Everyone was super professional. The staff did everything they could to make the class just as fun and a great learning experience. I left college and joined this class with the last of my college money to go and gain the knowledge in full stack development that I could have learned in college for less time. That does mean it is a lot more fast paced but that is good in my opinion, It means faster to your new career.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

If you're not already completely aware boot camps can be super tough, especially considering a "full stack" development boot camp. They do genuinely give you a crash course on everything. You're going to find yourself a few weeks in panicking asking, what in the heck did I get myself in to and then you'll kind of just grow numb to the information being thrown at you. The end will come quick and you'll feel like you don't even know what you've learned until you get the opportunity to look at old repositories and realize just how incredibly far you've came. Get ready and stay on top of things. I pursued this course while working 50+ hours a week in construction management, if I can do it, you got this.
If you're like me and you're reading every review out there, just take the leap, coding isn't going anywhere and it's better to catch the ship before it sails. -

Man, I don't even know where to start. I went into this class with a bit of knowledge as I was already in the IT industry, so I figured I would have a little bit of a head start on my classmates, but boy was I wrong! This class really goes all out and really packs in the information. You learn sooo much stuff in these 6 months, and I cannot stress enough that you have to go into this class wanting to learn. This class will not work well for you if you are being forced into it or do not have the time to put into it – you have to want to be here and you have to have time to study. There is just so much learning to do in these 6 months that you will be completely lost 6 weeks in unless you put in a lot of time studying time outside of class hours. But do not fear, they have plenty of great resources available to you! Use those resources! The TA's are great (shout out to Ben Vaagen) and the Boot Camp Support staff they have in their Slack channel are available to you 12 hours a day, 7 days a week are always ready to help you out with any coding questions you may have. They also provide you with a personal tutor if you request one. For awhile there I was taking tutor sessions 1 hour per day, 4 days per week, on top of my classes! Besides all of these resources, the professor is also available for "office hours" before and after class, and I found that to be very helpful as well at times. Also as a side note, my professor, John Young, was absolutely incredible. He was able to transition our curriculum from an in-person curriculum to an online only curriculum (thanks to Covid) almost seamlessly, and he was so friendly and when you spoke with him you really felt a personal connection - it really felt like he wanted me to succeed and he was almost as personally invested in me succeeding as I was myself. I cannot recommend him and his teaching assistants enough. Before you sign up for your cohort, make sure to ask who the professor is and try to get into John's class.
All in all I cannot recommend this boot camp enough. I know there are mixed reviews online, but with this boot camp you get what you put into it - if you actually put in the effort and put in the work you will come out of this class with an enormous amount of knowledge and you will know how to put it to use. I cannot say that today I am ready to go out and get a job as a developer, but give me another few months of learning and practicing and I definitely think I will be ready to break out into that field, which was the desired outcome of this course after all!Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I started researching coding boot camps because I was looking for a career change when my longtime career teaching in higher education started to become unstable. I had never done any coding before I started researching boot camps; I was a complete beginner. I am a University of Washington alum and I am also on faculty there, so when I saw that they had a boot camp, I looked into it straight away. I already trust UW, and after reading many positive reviews and seeing what they had to offer, I was sold. I was specifically looking for a part-time, in-person program, and this was it.
Unfortunately, we only got to meet in person for a week and a half before having to shift to remote learning due to the pandemic. Somehow, even though it was unusual, the experience was still fantastic. We learned SO MUCH in a short period of time. It was intense, as promised (they liked to use the phrase "drinking through a fire hose"), but I never found it too overwhelming. A ton of support is offered to the students--there are office hours before and after every class where the instructional team is available to help, we were given one free tutoring session per week with a dedicated tutor (meaning, you work with the same person for the whole boot camp--and by the way, even if you don't think you need a tutor, GET ONE! They can help you learn even faster!), and we, the students, were encouraged to lean on each other for help as well.
My instructor was John Young, and he is incredible at what he does. He's extremely knowledgeable, he's engaging, funny, and you know from the very first day that he truly wants every student to succeed. My TAs were Ben and Abdul, and they were awesome too--endlessly supportive and patient.
Career Services is also a big deal in this boot camp, and I have found everything they do (from free workshops to one-on-ones with a Career Director to reviewing job search materials to ENDLESS online resources) to be extremely helpful. I see a lot of folks online who put down boot camps because they think they can just learn coding on their own, but Career Services is something you can't really just do on your own, so that alone is a reason to do this boot camp.
My recommendation for anyone who is reading this because they are undecided about UW's boot camp is DO IT! It's totally worth it and will change your life!Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I took this course because I needed a career change. I signed up for the in-person course because that's how I feel I learn best. Then BOOM, about 2 weeks in COVID hit and we were all online. The transition was effortless. Our instructor John kept everything rolling like nothing has changed. Our TA's Ben and Abdul never let up on the support. There were a lot of late night Zoom calls, because they wanted to make sure we understood the content. Not gonna lie, about half way in, I wanted to quit. I was overwhelmed with the amount of information that we were learning and I felt like I was too far behind to complete the course. The conversation I had with John, Abdul and Ben convinced me to stay and I'm glad I did. In just six months, I have a whole other skill set that employers are looking for and I'm ready to get out there and see what this world has to offer!Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

This bootcamp was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it to anybody that's interested in learning how to code. The instructor (John) and TA's (Ben and Abdul) were so knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. They really cared about each individual student and took the time to make sure that we were each grasping the concepts. This class was intended to be an in person class, and after 3 weeks got switched to online because of Covid. I thought that the bootcamp and the instructional team did a great job of transitioning to online learning and keeping us engaged, and I still feel like I got just as much out of it. It's a lot of information to pack into 6 months, and it requires a lot of hard work and studying outside of class. But the bootcamp offers lots of resources to help you such as tutors, learning assistants, and office hours before and after every class for individual help. If you're reading this wondering if it's worth it, or if you can really learn the fundamentals of coding in 6 months with no prior experience, the answer is yes!Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I chose UW Bootcamp after months of researching of what can be the best value and UW did not disappoint. This program was thrice a week over a period of 6 months but boy does this get intense! We met in person for less than 3 weeks and then pandemic hit. I honestly feel our instructional team did a fab job at the transiton . Our instructor John and TAs Ben and Abdul helped us anytime we had questions or doubts. Extra tutor hours were given to cope up with the hectic curriculum. Office hours are before and after class to help the students, I do not regret joining UW and if any of you want to learn how to code even if you haven't coded once before this is what you should consider. As a working professional with a business background, I decided to pursue coding and web development to gain expertise on something more technical.
I have had a great experience while enrolled in the program. The staff do a good job preparing incoming students for the amount and type of work to expect. They do this by assigning prework and sending out emails with plenty of resources to explore. An entire team is dedicated to the students' success (e.g. an Instructor and two TAs, a Career Material Advisor and Career Director, and a Student Success Manager). Due to COVID-19, my cohort had to attend class using Zoom, but that did not at all diminish the quality of this boot camp.
For those who want to learn how to code, a UW Coding Boot Camp is a great place to start. My advice to prospective students is to be ready to dedicate 20 hours a week outside of class practicing and working on projects. The great thing about enrolling in a formal program instead of trying to learn on your own is the abundance of resources at your disposal! Be sure to make use of office hours, tutors, and study groups, and work with Career Services as early as you can to prepare for the job search after graduation.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

My experience with the University of Washington full-stack web development bootcamp was exactly what I had hoped for. The instructional staff was knowledgeable, helpful, and responsive. Our cohort started the same week that UW cancelled in-person learning due to COVID and the instructional team made a seamless transition to an all-remote format. The pace of the course is break-neck but that's exactly what I was hoping for. I would definitely say that, if you have no prior experience, it would be very difficult to be successful in this course if you were also trying to work more than maybe a few hours on the weekend - it requires an immense amount of time! But it was totally worth it. I definitely came out of it confident that I have a very solid base and, even if there are skills that I haven't picked up yet, I'll be able to figure them out on my own - which, I'm confident, will prove impressive to employers.
The Career Services department associated with the program is decent - the workshops are informative and, when you finally get it, the feedback is valuable. Make sure you START THIS PROCESS EARLY, though. I was under the impression that getting feedback on professional material and meeting with you career coach would be reasonably easy but that is not the case. Turn around on career materials reviews is 5 business days - that's often 7 actual days, so it can easily take 3 weeks to get your resume worked out. Scheduling with career directors is more than a month out. Don't wait until the end of the class to start this process - allocate at least a couple hours per week to work on these things so that you're ready to start applying the day that you finish the program.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp

I can't express how transformative this course is. You go from having zero knowledge to competing with other developers for positions at top-tier tech companies. Not even ten days after my final project, I've been approached for an internship at Microsoft.
The teachers, teaching assistants, and support staff are all overwhelmingly positive and supportive. They make it easy to genuinely fall in love with learning how to code and build apps. If you're considering a change-up to your career, this is a fantastic option. I now have the ability to make any kind of software I can imagine, it feels like the whole world is mine for the taking.
Shoutout to Brian Duimstra, Jason Roundtree, Lawrence Fiesta, Jen Alexander, and Rebecca Klasson. If any of these people are on your team for class, you're going to get an amazing education.Boot Camp Team of UW Coding Boot Camp
