This course will challenge you and will make you a well rounded web developer. Upon completing this bootcamp, you will be amazed at what you have accomplished and will have a portfolio filled with professional level applications. Please note: You will have to spend the recommended 20 hours outside of the classroom (at the very least).
I had little experience in coding and found the pre-work challenging, all the while wondering if I could even complete this course. The course is designed like building blocks and begins with HTML and CSS. Each week an additional skill is added and I found my self confidence growing when I realized I could not only complete the course, I could excel at it.
This course requires you to dig deep and oftentimes you will feel like you don’t have what it takes. The instructors do a great job of reassuring you that this is part of the process and I always felt like I had their support and they were always available for extra help if I needed it.
Without hesitation, I fully recommend this course to anyone who wants to begin a new career path (oh yeah, they help write your resume and help you search for a job too)!

Congratulations on completing the program, Janet! We are thrilled you had such a positive experience learning valuable web development skills. You are correct that individuals will have to dedicate the minimum 20 hours outside of class, sometimes more, to truly master the topics. We designed every facet of our course, from the pre-work to the main curriculum, to help students ranging across various proficiency levels. As each class builds on the previous one, we work to give students the foundation the need to master additional programming languages and concepts post-graduation. It's great to hear you felt confident with every passing week! Our instructional team is passionate about teaching, so we are happy to hear they reassured and supported you whenever you needed it. Thank you so much for your review and for recommending our boot camp. We are cheering you on as you go forward! -

This program was an amazing experience. I have no Computer Science background and all this is a compete career change for me. All program I was just driven by my love to creativity and constant challenges. If you are like me, then Coding Boot Camp is for you.
The Boot Camp Team will always be there to support and help you. You should understand though, that this is a fast-paced program. Being new to coding, I had to leave my full-time job, and stay part-time, to succeed in studying. But it was totally worth it.
To get a help from Career Service, all you need is to keep up with curriculum and do Career Service homework on your best. You will get many great advices how to become career ready and get a nice job.I entered the program with no background knowledge in coding, now I am capable of building web applications at professional level. And, moreove, we were trained how to learn independently and not to be scared of jumping into totally new technologies. This will be extra useful after graduation, so we can continuously expand our skills in tech field.

Amazing, Hanna! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your boot camp experience and constantly felt supported by our entire team. We know the amount of commitment necessary to balance life and the fast pace of the program, so you should be immensely proud of the hard work you dedicated!
Our topics are introduced at a higher level in class, after which students are expected to dive in and gain a deeper understanding outside of class. Like you mentioned, this ultimately helps individuals learn how to problem-solve and self-teach, key skills needed in a developer’s career, so we are happy to hear you feel fearless when it comes to jumping into new technologies post-graduation. Thank you for your review and congratulations on completing the program! We wish you all the best in your future endeavors. -

Before starting this course, I was certain I wanted to be a web developer. I wanted to build apps, utilize data from various sources, create my own databases for user-created information, etc. I had experience from building wordpress sites and other template/hosting platforms, as well as a couple codecademy modules under my belt - enough to know there was a lot I did not know. If I was going to be able to build all of the things I was interested in, I would need a help piecing together the thousands of different resources online. A friend had done a bootcamp before and raved about the experience, so after reviewing UR's curriculum and seeing it matched up with what most job descriptions were calling for, I signed up.
Almost 5 months later, and I'm very pleased with my decision. It is a ton of work. You are frustrated or confused in class most of the time. You will feel lost for days/weeks at a time. The curriculum starts with the basics then adds layer upon layer until you are using current tecnologies, libraries, methods and conventions. The course is a simulation of roughly the past 5 years of Javascript, and the tech surrounding it, compressed to 5 months. I am constantly revisiting old classroom exercises because of the sheer volume of information presented is difficult to fully absorb in one pass. However, the instructors and TAs are well versed in the material and eager to help. You might feel lost, but you aren't alone in the wilderness. Our instructor has been in the field for 20 years and frequently talks about how each piece of the coursework translates to what you do in the real world.
The job assistance is a non-factor for most of the course. To date, their focus is mostly on helping you with your resume and online profiles, as well as some interview tips. There doesn't appear to be any process in place to help you generate leads. That being said, as I have looked at job postings and had questions about the descriptions/titles/companies/etc., the career services team is very responsive. There is a lot of great insight from them, but you have to ask for it.
Sign up if you:
- are 100% positive you want to be a Javascript-based developer. The time and financial commitments are too large for this to be a trial run.
- have tried codecademy or freecodecamp or some other online tutorials, and you enjoy coding, but still can't grasp the big picture. The instructor/TA team pieces this together for you and they are worth their weight in gold.
- can self-teach when you are tired. The classes are at night and you'll be doing your homework in the margins of the day.
- can work in groups. The instructors, TAs, the person sitting next to you, your project group - you will be sharing a lot of time with these people.
- are a glutton for punishment that likes hard work. And lots of it.
Do NOT sign up if you:
- are looking for a line item on your resume that will "get you a job."
- heard web developers make a lot of money and think you'll have that handed to you.
- have to understand everything before you leave class for the day.
- don't like Javascript.
- don't want to do the leg work in your job search.

Thank you so much for your review, Graham! You are definitely right in that we start slowly, with the intensity of our program ramping up to advanced, full-stack topics very quickly. Each lesson iteratively builds on the last, and there are no shortcuts to focusing on the basics at first. As such, we are thrilled our instructors and TAs were eager to help and were there to support you. You should be proud of the hard work and long hours you dedicated to learning the course material. Thank you for leaving useful advice for potential students, that is great input!
We are glad to hear our career services team was responsive and insightful. While we do not secure direct employment for students, we work to empower them the best we can with the necessary tools and support for entering the job market, including resume support, 1:1 coaching, and technical interview training. We hope you found these to be helpful. Our program's professional development is designed to provide flexible support, however, it does require students input and is dependent on each individual's career needs. We are constantly updating our career services curriculum and continuously work to provide students with the assistance they need to be successful, so we truly appreciate your feedback. I'd love to hear from you directly to see what else we can do at this time to reinforce your employment search. If you'd like, please reach out to me at (804) 616-3270. This is a fantastic course, and an amazing opportunity, especially for those that are already working full time and looking for a career change.
I had already developed a static webpage, learning html, css and javascript through an online platform, and that piqued my interest in development. Through this course, I've learned so much more than I ever could through an online module, not just beyond the languages I was already (somewhat) familiar with, but also so much on what I thought I knew enough about.
My career has been in education, teaching Chemistry and Language Arts, before moving to a non-teaching ed-related role at a nearby high school. I am incredibly busy, working full-time, coaching wrestling and volunteering on a board of a charter school. Given my tough schedule, this surely hasn't been easy. At the same token, UR Coding Bootcamp, and our Student Success manager, have been very flexible and accomodating when it came to scheduling conflicts, allowing me to still learn the course work and not fall behind when things came up.
Of course, I've also put in a ton of hours outside of classtime working on homework or practicing actviities to hone my skills and gain a better understading of the material. The instructing team is top notch as well. They are very knowledgeable, but also real and incredibly accessible. They take the time to explain technologies thouroughly and how they've changed in recent years to paint a clearer picture for us. It's not easy, and we should expect to make mistakes, but that's how learning is done. The Career Services Component is the least integrated aspect of the experience, though, they will help you understand interview processes, give feedback on resumes and online presence etc. I know the job hunt will fall on each of our own shoulders and we should expect to dedicate the hours for that as well.

Thank you for your review, Cezar! We know it takes real commitment to balance life and the intensive pace of the program, so we commend you for all the hard work you’ve done. Our entire team is passionate about teaching students how to learn and consistently providing guidance and encouragement throughout the boot camp experience, so it's great to know you felt supported - thank you for your kind words!
Like you noted, our professional development services are built on the principle of empowerment, providing students with interview training, resume and social media profile support, portfolio reviews, and other necessary tools and support for entering the job market. The job search definitely requires hours of commitment on the part of the students, but we strive to provide flexibility in equipping, coaching, and guiding students as they work to find the role that's right for them. We look forward to continuing to work with you through the remainder of the career services curriculum and our post-graduation support, and we truly appreciate your feedback as we are constantly refining our services to best help students prepare for the job search.
Once again, thank you for sharing your review. We wish you great success going forward! -

I knew nothing about software development when I started this course. The prework even seemed mindboggling, even though it was psuedo-code and basic html, css, and javascript. My husband (a senior software engineer) would explain basic concepts in laymen's terms just so I would know what projects he was working on.
Then, I met Mike, Brett, and Seth. This Teaching and TA team is amazing. Mike is self-taught and an amazing teacher. He knows where we've been and consistently improves on his instruction so we can learn the concepts in different ways. Brett went through a different program; he understands some of the frustrations that can come with learning at this pace. Seth is a 20 year-old wunderkind who knows literally everything.
This team, and all the others at U of R, work to ease the stress of learning this quickly. I went from not knowing what an anchor tag was to designing and deploying my first group-created app within 8 weeks, and it was good. I've learned front- and back-end development, and although some camps start with React or something some might say is a little more relevant to the job market, the steps in the curriculum are built to create a foundation of understanding.
I had my first interview yesterday. It was a mock interview, though I had every right to be nervous. I was a schoolteacher for 6 years, and technical interviews are a whole new skillset to master. However, because of what Mike has taught me, and because of the curriculum, I was able to talk through all three problems I was given and write code reflective of my learning. Moreover, I got plenty of "style-" and "knowledge points" for adding in flourishes to my code that simplified it or circumnavigated potential issues. I couldn't have done this six months ago, and I feel confident that upon graduation, I will have a job.
I've got the skills. I have the portfolio. I've got the confidence. Now, I just need to network with the right recruiters. Thanks to this bootcamp, I will soon have a better job with better pay and benefits, and I can rest easy knowing that this investment was worth it.

Thank you for your review and congratulations on your first mock interview, you did great! We are confident that you will go on to do incredible things with your new knowledge. -

Pre-work is too easy and does not reflect actual coursework accurately. I strongly recommend a revision to the prework to better prepare future students.
The material is very challenging for non-coders to handle when dialogue is not a priority. The lexicon used in this environment must be included in the prework.
I place strong emphasis on speaking code because as a job seeker I have experienced less "whiteboard" interviews and more technical conversations as a means of assessing my abilities.
It would be most helpful if career services would include technical discussions/interviews rather than spending too much time on resume composition.
I recommend having a comprehensive network of successful participants who converted into the field a means of sharing best practices, advice on snagging the first job, and ways to share meaningful projects as students are preparing for the job hunt.

Thank you for your review, John! We understand this course can be challenging for those with minimal programming knowledge. It is our goal to provide a beneficial learning experience for all of our students, ranging from those individuals who may have more experience to beginners. During the admissions process, we do our best to emphasize the importance of individuals studying on their own before class commences, even more so for those without previous exposure. As such, our pre-work is designed to cover all basic proficiency levels; a useful resource for those with previous knowledge, refreshing what they might already know, as well as preliminary course material for those without experience to get an introduction. We are constantly modifying our pre-work material in order to best prepare students for the challenges they will face during the boot camp, so we truly appreciate your input.
We are also continually working on ensuring students properly understand the latest technical terms, both before and during the course. We understand you would have preferred more allocated time for technical discussions and interview training, and are constantly refining our career services to best help students prepare for the job search, so we thank you for sharing this feedback. We do offer a monthly online tech interview workshop to which all students are invited to attend. Our next upcoming session will take place in June. If you would like additional information, please feel free to reach out to your Career Director.
We do believe that building your professional network is an essential function in furthering your goals and do our best to foster a collaborative atmosphere among classmates. Did you find this to be helpful when it came to sharing projects? We highly encourage our graduates to focus on relationship-building throughout the course (both within the classroom and beyond) as a way to maximize their networking and land the right role. Your Career Director was able to provide you with 1:1 Career Coaching and additional resources for your specific needs. The student experience does not end upon graduation and we hope you are finding our continued professional development support to be beneficial in the early stages of your job pursuit, especially as there is still upcoming career services curriculum yet to be utilized! I'd love to hear from you directly to see what else we can do at this time to best meet your expectations and reinforce your employment search. Please reach out to me at (804) 616-3270. If someone has the interest, aptitude, and perseverence to learn coding & web development, then without a doubt I would strongly recommend this course to him/her. There are dedicated instructors willing to give 1 on 1 help during class and solve issues outside class time as well. The group projects allowed me to learn so much from other students. On homework and projects, the instructors provided helpful feedback and tips for improvement. So these 3 things are the biggest advantages over taking an online course.
When I started this boot camp, I only knew a little HTML barely. This course was in-depth. It was 24 weeks long with about 10 hours in class each week. (Well worth the money if you take advantage of everything.) By the time it finished, many students including me, were making professional-quality web apps.
The great thing about the curriculum is that it gives enough practice with the fundamentals before building on it. But there is room for improvement. I think there should be more teaching about networks, IP, XHR, REST and high-level architecture. But it may be difficult to fit in all that content. So far, career services were okay, but I am waiting to see if they help get me those interviews & job offers.
My job prospects are looking much better after taking this course. Since graduating from college, I had spent months trying to get in contact with good companies. Now, they are contacting me. I've got my first job offer (software engineer) less than a week after graduating from this.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your review, Sahir! You are definitely right that this program takes perseverance and passion, and we applaud you for all of your hard work during this program. We’re glad to hear that you liked the structure of this course and that our instructors gave you the support you needed. The in-classroom experience is designed to provide students with face-to-face instruction, opportunities to collaborate with peers, and access to maximum assistance and support.
We understand you would have liked to learn more about IP, XHR, and other high-level architecture. As you noted, because we teach such a wide array of technologies in a short amount of time, our curriculum focuses on providing a high level, hands-on understanding of the course material with the goal of individuals expanding upon this knowledge outside of class. However, we are constantly evaluating our curriculum and we use student feedback and market research to make changes regularly, so we truly appreciate you sharing this insight so that we can continue to ensure we're teaching the most in-demand skills. Congratulations on your first job offer! Our career services do not end at graduation, and we look forward to continuing to work with you 1:1. We are proud of all you have accomplished and wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavors! -

I went into this boot camp wanting to transition my career from GIS Analyst to GIS Developer. The skills I learned in this program helped to "connect the dots" for things I had tried to learn independently, and provided me with a solid foundation for that career path and a way forward to continue learning about development tools specific to my industry. To succeed in this program, you must be curious, diligent, and persistent. It is not easy and will require a lot of time and mental energy investment. However, if you put in the work and make the most of the resources that the course offers, you will not be disappointed. -

Hello, my name is Justin Wilson and I am currently enrolled in the University of Richmond Cybersecurity Bootcamp for the spring session of 2022 (Feb-Aug). My experience with the class has been a positive one overall. I, like many of my classmates would probably agree, have experienced a full range of emotions these last 6 months. The course has been insightful, interesting, challenging, and at some points difficult and frustrating. Not to discourage any potential students, receiving the amount of information covered in such a short time is not an easy task, but I genuinely believe that thats why its aptly named a bootcamp. While going through it, there was/ will be times of self doubt, and frustration at understanding concepts, but the acknowledgment in retrospect that you've completed this fast paced course only leaves you with gratitude, and the appreciation of knowing what can be achieved with hard work. Although I have not yet graduated, I have heard enough success stories of strangers and friends having their professional lives and careers changed by IT bootcamps. The course is geared toward industry specific knowledge that employers are looking for in employees, and it's no surprise so many students get hired after attending. I believe you will get out what you put into the course. Those willing to study the student guides that accompany every class session, and rewatch the zoom videos of class will have a strong understanding of the concepts and be ready for real world situations. Overall I would recommend the course to anyone looking to break into the IT field, or looking for a career change and see Cyber Security as an interesting new avenue. I currently work as a CDL driver working 12 hr shifts, 5 days a week, and take the course in the evenings. I believe if I'm capable of taking the class and being successful, anyone with a basic understanding of computers and some ambition will do fine.Boot Camp Team of University of Richmond Boot Camps

Hi,
I’m a recent graduate of University of Richmond’s Cyber bootcamp (April 2022).
Having tried another Cyber program (2 year), I decided a shorter term would allow me to get employed expeditiously. I found the UR program online and was already familiar with the school. With minimal online school experience, choosing this program was a bit daunting, but I'm so glad I enrolled.
The program was pretty intense at first and seemed to go at breakneck speed. But after getting acclimated, I realized the value a quality program can offer.
My instructor, John Hui, was one of the better instructors I’ve ever had, and that includes undergraduate, some grad work, tech schools etc.
John allowed me to build upon previous knowledge in information technology, in a more specialized segment. My first project gave me fits at times, but John continued to encourage me to persevere. And that was very valuable, in that it gave me confidence going forward. John was excellent in explaining concepts and important topics (“take aways”). And it was obvious that he truly enjoyed what he was doing.
Lastly, if I were to recommend a “model” teacher in this field, John Hui would be my nominee. Perhaps UR/Trilogy could use him as a consultant in training new teacher candidates? Anyway, he will truly be missed! (at least by me!)

When I first started my cybersecurity journey, I didn’t know where to start. I knew I wanted a credible program affiliated with a larger university and I knew I wanted it to be affordable. I was lucky enough to be in Richmond, VA at the time and decided the University of Richmond’s Cybersecurity Bootcamp program was the perfect option. It had evening classes on Mondays and Wednesdays with one morning class on Saturdays. Very doable! The cherry on top was the instructor that I was given: John Hui. John is not an ordinary instructor. John is a cyber miracle worker. I have a background in medicine and languages, but there was no way I’d be able to understand the complexities of cybersecurity if it weren’t for John’s guidance. Learning cyber security can be very daunting! The frameworks can feel like alphabet soup and you never know if you’re one click away from breaking your whole system. However, John coaxed us in the right direction just enough for us to solve the problem on our own. He facilitated in a way that fostered personal growth as well as technical prowess. He never left anyone behind. He said “as long as you keep showing up, I’ll get you to graduation” and he was right. I graduated last week and have interviews lining up as I type this.
John’s teaching style is psychology driven rather than syllabus driven. He’d rather deviate from the syllabus if his students needed more time on a subject, rather than march along to an academic drum. When you’re learning something this complex, you need instructors that really see you where you are. John knew we were all working professionals with lives outside of the bootcamp. He showed grace on assignments/projects which had a positive impact on class morale and overall educational satisfaction. John’s teaching style made me want to come to class. He paired us up into small groups at the beginning and now my group members are like family.
There aren’t enough good things to say about John. He taught me that every wrong answer is a deviated route to the right one. He taught me not to give up and to believe I have the capacity to do much more than I imagined. Bottom line, You want John Hui as your cyber security instructor. Period.

This boot camp has been a god send, I was able to expound on my networking knowledge exponentially. John has done an amazing job leading the class through all of our units and provided us with superb assistance. When we have questions instead of just outright telling us he challenges us to look at the problem from different angles and has really been reinforcing critical thinking skills in order to find solutions. John and the course have given me personally a tremendous confidence boost and helped quell the imposter syndrome that I feel I have been experiencing every since I got my two year networking degree. I do not think I would have anywhere near the same amount of confidence in my ability to perform in the cyber security industry if it weren't for John's outstanding instruction throughout the course. Course designed as career change. Quite a wide array of topics covered at rapid pace. Working in the group was by far one of the best aspects of the course. And the ability of the instructor to place us in great mutually beneficial groups was amazing.
I was looking for information on the cybersecurity field (not particularly in a career change at the moment). I am still processing on just how it all fits together. We were given many different details and path options - it all is quite overwhelming at the time.
John and Kevin (instructors) covered the material well and were very knowledgeable in the field(s) as a whole - able to field most any question.Boot Camp Team of University of Richmond Boot Camps

This Cybersecuty BootCamp has been a great journey for me as someone with no IT background, no experience in the field. From day 1 to the end of the Camp I can see how much I learned. I was blessed to have John Hui who uses Socrates (a Greek philosopher from Athens) techniques to teach, and his great Assistant Kevin and to have Jen and her team support. I definitely will recommend the Cybersecurity BootCamp of University of Richmond.

I enrolled in the Cybersecurity Bootcamp because I want a career with many possibilities and one that will make my daughters proud. I was a Stay-at-Home Mom for seven years and had zero background in Cybersecurity. Needless to say, I was extremely nervous when I started! The nerves quickly disappeared because of my amazing Instructor, John Hui! I've had so many questions throughout this program and he always quickly responds to me on Slack. So, it is definitely not a problem to reach out to him outside of class with any questions. He gives stories about his own experiences to inform and encourage the class. He stays in a good mood and brings humor, which keeps classes from being boring. I can tell he really wants us to know the material and be comfortable with it before he moves on to the next unit. John cares about our progress. He has given me the skills and tools I need to be successful in this field. More importantly, he encourages me and makes me believe I can do this. He was right because I have maintained an A+ so far and I couldn't have done it without his guidance! I was never expecting to have such an awesome Instructor like John, and I'll be forever grateful!!!Boot Camp Team of University of Richmond Boot Camps

In this bootcamp course my expectations were exceeded. I came into this program not knowing anything now I feel comfortable going into the work force and know what i'm doing. I love how hands on we are, with each lecture we have activities where we practice what we are learning. Whenever someone has a question in the class John makes us think by having us walk through the steps to get the answer on our own rather than just giving us the answers. This boot camp is worth it and John is a great teacher you can tell its second nature to him.Boot Camp Team of University of Richmond Boot Camps

I have been an elementary school teacher for the past 6 years. I finally saw the writing on the wall this past November when I realized the struggles I was facing as an American educator were not going away any time soon. I knew I needed another option, but did not want to go back to a four year university to get another degree. After doing some research, I found the Data Analytics Bootcamp at the University of Richmond. I'll admit, it was scary taking a leap of faith into a field with which I was unfamiliar, but I am so thankful I did. The instructors and staff were very supportive from start to finish. Although I had zero coding experience, I was able to quickly pick up the material and successfully complete the coursework. Here I am 6 months later, with multiple coding languages under my belt, able to build full websites with interactive visualizations and develop machine learning models. The class was challenging, but fun, and I really never felt overwhelmed despite the time commitment because I knew my instructors were always there to help me. If you are ready for a new career path, or want to really boost your analytical skills, then you need this class!Boot Camp Team of University of Richmond Boot Camps

I always had a thing for coding. Even before signing up for the coding bootcamp, I use to watch videos and try to code myself. Unfortunately, that didn’t take me as far as I would’ve hoped. While learning, I came across the advertisement about University of Richmond Coding Bootcamp. I talked to my dad about it and he said if this is something you want to do then go ahead. So, now that I’m done, I feel that I made the right choice in taking this course. I wouldn’t have been able to learn everything that I’ve learned without the help of instructors, TAs and even fellow students. I’m thankful to everybody that was there to support me through the tough days. This absolutely proved to be a life changing 6 months.

I came into the course with a lot of worries about the material and timeframe for the course. I honstly carried these worries thru to the last 2 months of the program. The instructors and TA's were awesome to work with the entire time. The course does move at a fast pace so be prepared to spend extra hours in your offtime, but it's worth it. If you're planning on taking this course, I suggest delving into some of the topics like "javascript" as early as possible. Overall, I definitly recommend this program to anyone interested in in web design.
Good luck to a new future...

If you're on the fence about taking the dive, just do it. This is a fantastic program, and well worth your time and money. The instructors are awesome, and they are actual professionals in the industry. They geniunely care about you and your success. The TAs are very knowledgeable and supportive, and will devote a lot of their time to help you with homework or to understand a specific topic. The Administrator is there for anything you need. Needless to say, the support system you'll have as you learn is phenominal.
As for the course itself, it is fast paced and challenging, but rewarding. You will find yourself just starting to grasp one topic only to quickly move on to the next, but if you stay disciplined, and use your resources and support available to you, then you will succeed.
Coming out of this course, I have a broad range of skills that are in high demand. I feel pleased with my decision to take this life changing step in my life and this course has built a solid foundation for the start of my new career path.
Students get the opportunity to present their final projects at a science fair-like hiring event, and I can only tell you that it was one of the best experiences I have ever had, and I feel like I made a lot of great connections.

After years of collaborating with developers in my design career, I wanted to improve my digital skills and become a developer myself.
But to expand my knowledge and skills to this level seemed virtually unattainable. I was a beginner and never really went beyond HTML/CSS. I had no time to attend a full-time curriculum path and I found it easy to get lost in my “self-taught” pursuits.
When I learned of UR’s Full Stack program, it seemed like a solid solution for me.
Turns out - it was a great decision and has already exceeded my expectations.
The program’s core curriculum is well developed and organized, has solid coursework progression and the staff and career support system are tops in their field. Their investment into each student is what really makes the program. They're quick to provide their resources and support to help you succeed with your understanding of the material.
It’s immersive, fast-paced and intense. You’ll get frustrated and overwhelmed at times. But it’s very rewarding and you have the support of the instructors, TA’s, support staff and fellow students to help motivate you to push through. It’s a big investment of time and effort but you’ll get out of it what you put in and meet some fantastic people in the process.
It's already given me the knowledge and framework I need to dive into the industry with confidence. I’ve learned some powerful fundamentals, best industry practices and overall core skills that will help merge me into my new career path after graduation.
Nothing but high praise for this program. It has impressively delivered all that it said it would and much more!

The pace is very fast, but I knew that before I started. I struggled some in the beginning and I had days when I said I made a mistake in choosing to take this bootcamp while having a full-time job and a family. But I got into the routine of it and I've learned a lot! I think I could have gotten an even better grasp of everything if I had more time, but it is possible to get through the program while working. I have already had a few interviews for jobs that incorporate my current skills with what I'm currently learning, so I'm hoping to be in a new position soon that will be more enjoyable and more what I would like to be doing. I was feeling very boxed in at my current position doing something that I don't really enjoy. So this program has given me some hope. I feel very good about what I've accomplished!!

If you have loads and loads of free time and self-motivate extremely well, you can ABSOLUTELY learn everything from this course for free and on your own for a lot less. That was not me...
I took the course in the evenings, 2 nights a week and Saturday morning class. (10hrs class time a week and roughly another 15-30 hrs of coursework outside of class depending on assignment) I worked 40-50hr weeks at my job. That was it. This will be all you do for 24 weeks, and that was exactly what I wanted/needed. Without the hefty price tag as motivation constantly, knowing myself, I would have flaked / lost interest.
If you are expecting to be hand held and shown every little detail, this is NOT the format. This is about YOU figuring out as much as you are being instructed. Curriculum is not entirely relevant or completely up to date. Instruction was a bit disjointed at times, not because of bad instructors, but because of some gaps in material and how it was cobbled together for presentation/lecture. Many things were updated as we went along. The instructional staff (we had an awesome TA crew) was always able to let you know what was most important, and what was dated. You WILL feel constantly behind and overwhelmed with new material. It's a rigourous but effective way to learn. I enjoyed the rapid pace. Kept it interesting. Your main coding projects will give you a leg up and some foundation to build on when you move in to the professional job search.
Am I a great coder now? No not yet. Got everything to get there though. Leaving thins course, you will still be a master of NONE, but you will get comfortable picking up unfamiliar technologies extremely quickly, and I feel pretty satisfied with that.
Career services as a whole is pretty in-consequential. If you have absolutely NO idea how to look for a job or any exposure to what that is like, then I would say it could likely be helpful. I did/do not find it to be much of a value add to the course. What I've accomplished in the job hunt has been achieved through personal networking and persistence. Nice team of folks though.
As a total career change opportunity, for me, the course was worth it. I have never been one for traditional educational structure. This was focused on exactly what I wanted. Technologies listed are exactly what is taught. Best of luck.

Thank you for your review, Aaron! We’re happy to hear you had a positive experience learning valuable coding skills through our program. We know it takes real commitment to balance a career with an intensive paced program like this one and we commend you for all you were able to accomplish throughout your boot camp journey.
Our program prides itself on teaching students how to learn, providing a strong foundational skill set used to master additional programming languages post-graduation. This helps individuals learn how to problem-solve and self-teach, a key skill needed in a developer’s career. We are glad you found this method to be beneficial and enjoyed the various coding projects. Based on market conditions, we actively adjust our curriculum to best serve the long-term needs of our students and equip them with in-demand skills. We are constantly working on improving our course material to ensure students are learning the most valuable technologies, as it is our goal to ensure all our information and tools are current and accurate—so we truly appreciate you sharing this feedback.
Our professional development services are built on the principle of empowerment. We regret you did not find value in some aspects of our career services. We strive to set clear expectations and provide individualized support through technical interview training, portfolio reviews, resume/social media profile support, and more. Did you find these to be helpful? We recognize that students come from different professional backgrounds and as a result, we constantly refine our career services to best help individuals prepare for the job search. I know Aubrey Somberg, your Career Director, is still ready and willing to provide support! Going in to the bootcamp, I had a little bit of programming experience, but not enough to be dangerous. By the end, I felt comfortable to speak intelligently on most everything we learned. The instructor and TA's were always happy and willing to help when I needed it. The material isn't spoon fed and you should expect to spend some time learning outside of class. I didn't use Career Services much, but I kept my LinkedIn up to date. A few weeks following the bootcamp, I received a few job offers as a result of the knowledge-set acquired during the course and the interview prep. I was in the very first cohort at U of R (started October 2017, graduated April 2018). This class is pretty intense, hence the name "Boot Camp". You learn very little programming theory and jump right into coding. I am a programmer (LAMP stack) and had little to no experience with the MERN stack. Even with my programming background, I found this class to be somewhat difficult (and intimidating) that required a lot of independent learning (expect to spend 20+ hours/week doing research and homework). Add in 10 hours of classtime/week and you get an idea of the workload. Do not spend your money on this class unless you're absolutely 100% prepared to spend a lot of time and energy learning this material, it moves quickly and you don't want to fall behind. You'll be required to turn in weekly homework assignments and participate in three group projects. While this class is billed as a "beginner" class with little or no programming experience required (and most of my classmates did fit this qualification -- and did graduate), I think it that having *some* programming experience will help greatly. I came out of the class with a very good understanding of all the material and I'm ready to start coding in JavaScript now (I love JavaScript now). I'm glad that I took the class, it was very rewarding. Please note that I did not utilize any of the career services aspects of this class as I am currently employed and just wanted to learn the material. My only real complaint is that homework assignments weren't graded in a timely manner. This was probably due to growing pains since I was in the very first cohort.

I love the way John teaches. He has patience and he explains everything in a way that anyone can understand. His analogies really make you connect the dots, comprehend, and see things clearer. I've heard of another student complain about her teacher and how he doesn't clearly explain things. She had to study twice as hard and basically felt like she was teaching herself. I am a recent graduate of the coding boot camp at the University of Richmond. Overall, I would give the boot camp a 4.75/5 stars for what I needed.
That said, before enrolling in this course I would HIGHLY encourage students to think about whether or not they are willing to or have the ability to dedicate up to 30 hours per week for six months to take this class. To succeed in this class students need to be hard-working, dedicated, eager to learn, and have a solid understanding of technology (no coding experience required).
The only knock I have on the course is for career services. The career services track provides little to no help in helping students find a job during or after completion.Yuri Tuppince of University of Richmond Boot Camps
