Prospective Student Beware

Do not sign up for this bootcamp if you are assuming that the university name has anything to do with the quality of the material.
You will be highly disappointed if you set your expectations this way.
This is strictly a review of Trilogy Education Services, and their methods for building the camp with a ___ University name slapped on.
I'm not going to say that this bootcamp was not valuable - there were positive takeaways and learning experiences -- BUT -- those positives came solely from the bonds I made with my peers and small portions of the teaching staff.TEACHERS
The instructor choices were a mixed bag. We had one teacher who was highly knowledgable on the subjects, and struggled to point students in the right direction with the curriculum and pace supplied by Trilogy. The other instructor was a complete mess, with no pedagogical knowledge whatsoever, and barely grasped the materials of our program. The second instructor conducted themselves as if they had only just introduced the material, creating endless frustration and confusion on a weekly basis within my cohort. Red flags for miles.ORGANIZATION METHODS
Trilogy's administration was incredibly disorganized throughout the entire process, frequently mixing me up with other students, unable to manage meetings and calendars, providing little technical insight throughout the career portion of their service, generally unable to keep track of their own system. You need to be a serious advocate for yourself, and hold each person on Trilogy's team accountable by tracking their follow-up, to make sure that you get what you need and deserve from the money and time you're investing.ATTITUDES
Trilogy's attitude toward you and their work is entirely a "by your own bootstraps" mindset. They WILL play some psychological cards by saying your success is only on you (and for the educational determination portion of this experience, they're right, it is), but they WILL NOT be very helpful in managing the technological errors of their student portal, nor the pedadogical errors in their instructor decisions, nor the miscommunication errors of their internal staff.
You WILL be investing a lot of your own limited time helping to keep them organized, and you WILL constantly need to be verifying and re-confirming their conversations with you. It is possible to do well, with a lot of added frustrations.THOUGHTS
The application process before the course began felt a lot like a fast-paced, high-pressure sale, and they were not able to answer simple questions about demographics and success rates. Their responses to these questions were naive and downright lies ("We don't like to view our students as numbers"). If you're truly determined to take this huge educational step with Trilogy, ask the tough questions before you commit. If any of their answers make you feel uneasy or unsure, know that there are many, many different coding bootcamps out there, and invest wisely elsewhere.Boot Camp Team of Northwestern Boot Camps

Thank you for your review, Pac. It's great to hear you made lasting connections with your classmates. As you noted, the Northwestern School of Professional Studies has partnered with Trilogy Education Services (TES) to offer the Northwestern Coding Boot Camp. Northwestern is deeply involved in the curriculum, instructor selection, and outcomes of each of our classes, and routinely meet in conjunction with TES to monitor the student experience and performance. Both Northwestern and TES are completely dedicated to transforming students' lives and are fully transparent about this relationship throughout the entire course experience.
We understand your instructors did not live up to your expectations. We do ensure that the instructors we hire are industry professionals, with a minimum of three years of experience as active practitioners in the field. Every candidate is vetted by Northwestern and trained in instructional best practices before stepping inside a classroom. We hire established professionals in lieu of traditional professors to best simulate real-life working environments, and fewer than 2.5% of all screened candidates are selected.
The student experience is our priority, and to ensure a positive learning environment, we actively monitor instructor performance through weekly student feedback surveys, video audits of the classroom, and instructor coaching sessions. We also provide supplemental resources throughout the course and host structured review sessions to increase academic understanding of core concepts and frameworks. We are quick to respond to any student concerns and provide a voice for all of our learners through weekly surveys and office hour sessions. Throughout this process, we have collected over 200,000 feedback forms to date, making necessary enhancements based on student and instructor insights. However, we know that not all teaching styles will resonate with all participants.
As this is a boot camp, we recognize the course material is fast-paced and challenging while covering a wide range of topics. We pride ourselves on teaching individuals how to learn, providing a strong foundation of skills that will allow them to easily dive into other frameworks and languages, even after completing the program. As an accelerated learning environment, it is important that we foster a community of students where everyone can contribute to each other's success and growth. We encourage individuals to collaborate and directly contribute to the course during class, projects, and study groups. Our team works hard to ensure every student feels supported throughout every step of the way, however, we are constantly improving our responsiveness to ensure learners are being heard and assisted, so we appreciate you sharing this key insight.
As you noted, we do have a multi-step admissions process. During this time, we evaluate individuals to ensure they are aware of the extensive time they will have to dedicate to their studies and are truly committed to their coding journey. We do not report on success rates because we believe the appropriate measures of a boot camp lie in the quality and career services offered. We take pride on our cutting-edge curriculum and holistic approach to learning, providing more than 75 hours of professional development to each student, consisting of technical interview training, portfolio reviews, resume/social media profile support, online Tech Talk panels, and one-on-one meetings with their Career Director.
We sincerely care about all our learners and would welcome the opportunity to further discuss how else we can support you at this time. If you would like, please reach out to us directly at (312) 416-9979. Congratulations on graduating, we wish you great success moving forward! -

I'm respectively a medical professional with no prior analytic or coding experience. While working in clinical research for a few successful years, I got fascinated with the exploratory data interpretation and visualization methods. For this apparent reason, I correctly carried out my extensive search for various Data Science Boot Camp classes. Comprehensively, Northwestern Data Science BCS program steered my possible way as to how I can accurately apply their data analytics tools into my research career. Their practical understanding tactfully encouraged me to use the qualitative data point interpretations methodically. The BCS of Northwestern University with no reasonable doubt is efficiently designed and has made the learning process easier. The education team along with their concerned management are always there to willingly support my limited knowledge as to how I can tactfully recognize the data analytics specific codes. The talented team generously stimulated my possible path of questionable action and then to correctly apply to their terminologies. They undoubtedly assisted me to cruise through a challenging time during class work or homework. Northwestern BCS has indeed equipped me with practical tools whether it's merely their talented instructors or from the competent career service team. Their career service has directly provided straightforward strategies and exercises which are helpful to get gainfully employed into data science.

Full Stack Development

I decided to purse the career path of full stack developer due to my passion for technology and my interest in computers. I come from a mental health background as a fully licensed clinician that was ready for a major change in my life and career. Even though I had dedicated all of my post-graduate career to social services, I needed a change for my life. I took some free online courses that I felt were helpful in getting me more interested in programming, however without a structured approach to learning, I struggled to connect concepts and do something practical with what was being taught in those courses. I found positive reviews from Northwestern and was looking for an intensive program that would help prepare me for a career switch at an affordable cost in a high quality program.
I'm about halfway completed with the program and I've really enjoyed the intensity of the program and the sense that you are actually learning practical and useful skills for a potential employer. You quickly are building websites and web applications which helps connect the concepts learned into real world application. The program does a good job of stressing how intensive the program is, and I also can't stress this enough. This course is not a 'sit back and soak in the information'. The instructors are very knowledgeable and approachable and really do want to help and teach you. I ask tons of questions to instructors and teacher assistants and they are always eager to help.
If you want to be successful in this program, be ready to dedicate a lot of time to learning. I found it extremely helpful to constantly try to stay ahead of the course as much as possible and not fall behind in understanding homework or concepts. The moment I recognize that I'm not clear on a concept, I'm utilizing the huge range of supports that the program offers to get caught up immediately. The pace is extremely fast and if you begin to struggle to understand a concept, it can start to snowball very quickly since the course does not back track often.

I'd been wanting to learn programming for some time, but didn't really know where to start. I tried online sites like codeacademy and seemingly the only thing that stuck was doubt - Am I learning relevant tools, how on earth do I apply this stuff in the real world?
Now I can confidently say there's no doubt in my mind. The instructional staff didn't just walk through the code like a robot, but took you through their thought process, demo'd their personal workflows, and brought in real world applications of the technology whenever possible. You could really feel the passion and enthusiasm for the material. Then there is a support admin staff that is constantly checking in with you to make sure you are understanding the material, and setting you up with tutors when needed. This created a warm learning environment which felt like we were all in it together and nobody was going to be left behind.
I graduated with a very marketable skillset and a great approach for continued learning in the field. Which is exactly what I was after. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and would recommend it to anyone willing to invest the time.

Full Stack Coding Bootcamp

This Bootcamp is definitely for very beginners. My first 6 weeks of the program were amazing and I probably learned more in that 6 weeks than I did most of my college career. However, our instructors switched and we went from having an amazing instructor who would review before class and would sit one-on-one with us, to someone who just really did compare (they were an amazing and intelligent person, but the teaching style was not what everyone in the class had come to love and relearning a new teaching style is very difficult in a program like this).
The big selling points are "Northwestern" (remember it is run by Trilogy still, it is just a course that was approved by Northwestern) and "Career Services". Northwestern was amazing. Career services were a joke. I created a portfolio, resume and cover letter and barely got any feedback about them, and the only reason I did get feedback was because myself and another student complained about never hearing from our career specialist.
Another big issue I had was a kid in the class literally cheated his way through the Bootcamp (he copied other people's repo's on GitHub line for line), and that's all fine and dandy because he wasted his own time and money, but they handed him a certificate when he didn't earn it and we signed clauses in our contracts saying plagiarism would not be tolerated.
I'm not going to say I didn't gain anything from this Bootcamp, it was a lot of work and very hard, but make sure you find the Bootcamp that's right for you and really apply yourself. Be the first person there and the last person to leave. I landed an unbelievable job and I'm not sure I could have done it without going to A BOOTCAMP.
Shop around, ask the right questions, make sure you want a full stack program, etc. Then make your own choice. May the force be with you.Boot Camp Team of Northwestern Boot Camps

Thank you for your review, Tarah! We are so glad to hear you learned so much during your time in the program. As you noted, Northwestern School of Professional Studies has partnered with Trilogy Education Services (TES) to offer the Northwestern Boot Camps. Northwestern is deeply involved in the curriculum, instructor selection, and outcomes of each of our classes, and routinely meet in conjunction with TES to monitor student experience and performance. We regret your cohort underwent an unexpected change in instructors and understand that this impacted your experience. We know not all teaching styles will resonate with every individual and adjusting to a new teaching method can be difficult. We are glad to hear that you found your new instructor to be knowledgeable in the subject matter.
Our career support is built on the principle of empowerment. While we do not secure direct employment for students, we empower them the best we can with the necessary tools and support for entering the job market, including resume support, 1:1 coaching, and technical interview training. We take input like yours seriously and are continuously working to provide our students with valuable feedback and the job career assistance they need to be successful.
We know how rigorous this course is and commend all the hard work you devoted—you have earned all of your success! Mastering our curriculum takes hours of dedication and personal, hands-on coding experience, and we take plagiarism seriously. Students commit to adhering to a high standard of academic integrity upon course enrollment. In cases where plagiarism is discovered or reported, together, the SPS and TES administrative teams take appropriate action.
We sincerely care about each one of our students and would welcome any other suggestions you may have to further enhance our boot camp. If you would like, please reach out to us directly at (312) 416-9979. Congratulations on graduating and landing an exciting new career role! We wish you all the best moving forward. -

Overall, I would give the Boot Camp at Northwestern a solid A. Our instructor was extremely engaging & knowledgable in the topics relevant to the current job market. Additionally, he was a motivator who pushed us when necessary...the coarse is by no means a sprint -- more of a marathon. Regardless, I feel great about the experience, especially when looking at opportunities for career transition in the Chicagoland area. The Northwestern brand, also, carries a weight all its own, and should help land me on the professional path I've been working toward.

I joined the Data-Science bootcamp at Northwestern University because I was seeking a career change and excited for the next chapter or phase of my life. I already loved Statistics and the possibilities with machine learning and Data manipulation with different programming languages such Python & R thrilled me so much, I had a deep hunger for more knowledge and boy! did that get that from day one!
My favorite aspect of the program was the immense support from the boot camp team they truly want to see you succeed and fulfill your destiny and calling. They offered sound advice in regards to what you will experience in a real-time example of work and then we received great feedback on each of the assignments which meant that there is great potential to be on the expert level of each of the subject matter.
My advice for prospective students is to always strive for Excellence but also check your wellness status. You will excel when you feel confident in your craft. Always seek counsel from other experts, they will help you get on the right and comfortable path.
Signing out,
Motols. :-)

I really enjoyed the Northwestern Data Science Boot Camp. It is a great way to learn the technical skills needed to start a career in the tech industry. The instructors and TA’s are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I had recently graduated with a bachelors in Psychology before applying for the boot camp. I did not have any prior programming knowledge before starting the course, however, that didn’t stop me from maintaining an A. They do a great job teaching you the skills from the ground up. You for sure get out what you put into the class. I feel confident that this boot camp gave me the foundation I need to get into the industry.

This course far exceeded my expectations. The instructor was amazing. I was a little concerned that I would not be able to keep up with the pace of the course while working a 50 hour work week. This is a very tough course, but the instructor does a great job of keeping you motivated and the instruction staff is always there to help you through any topics you are struggling with. The program does a great job of getting the students to work together. Just about any time of day you could message someone in the class for help or share resourses.
Overall, I can not say enough great things about this experiance. The instructors knowledge and energy was second to none. The instructional staff are all industry professionals. I spent a little over 2 years working with online courses and I could never put it all together. This course brought it all together for me.

I had an incredible and truly life changing experience with the Northwestern Web Development Boot Camp, most of which I attribute to my instructor: Mark Thompson. I did the Full Stack Flex (part-time) program, and Mark's ability to keep us all engaged until nearly 10 PM at night after a full day at work was nothing short of a miracle. Class was not only educational, it was actually fun! It was often the highlight of my day. Mark was so genuinely excited to teach that I found him doing push ups outside the classroom on more than one occasion.
To provide some background: I have no coding experience. I have an undergraduate degree in economics and applied math, and I work at MB Financial Bank where I spent 2+ years on the Commercial Finance side. I'm currently still at MB, but now working with our Data Analytics team and plan to apply elsewhere in the future.
The curriculum, and the speed at which it's taught, is honestly soul crushing LOL. This class will take over your life. You will not have time to workout, or get enough sleep, or socialize, or do anything else you want to do, but it is possible to graduate! Just know what you're getting yourself into. It will be difficult to dedicate any more than 40 hours a week to your job.

Great Experience

I attended the full time, January-April web development boot camp at Northwestern University and had an overwhelmingly positive experience. As a complete beginner to the world of technology and coding, I was concerned I wouldn't be at the right level from the start, or quickly fall behind as the course kicked off. On the first day, I discovered there was a huge range of backgrounds and technical abilities in the class. The instructional team did everything in their power to cater to those who were true beginners and those who were a little more experienced with additional steps and work during class if you were ahead of the game and more complex homework assignments that were optional for all students.
I came out of the class feeling much more confident in my skills than I ever thought possible, and excited about continuing to learn and grow as a developer. At the end of the day, I truly believe it came down to the instructional team. While the program itself (curriculum and career services) should also play a role in your decision when choosing a boot camp, I think it all really comes down to the instructor. We were lucky to have CJ, who was extremely passionate and dedicated to our success. She came in early, stayed late, and occasionally set up additional on campus reviews on the weekends. As a part of the Trilogy curriculum team, we knew she was invested in making sure we were learning languages and technologies that would be the most marketable for us when we completed the course.
The job assistance portion could be improved as we were never connected with real employers, but they are helpful as far as behavioral interview prep, salary negotiation, etc.
Overall, I had a great experience and miss going to class every day!

Thank you for your review, Kelly! We are thrilled you had such a positive experience learning valuable web development skills through our program. Like you mentioned, we provide a comprehensive curriculum built for individuals across a wide range of proficiency levels, ranging from those with more experience to novice beginners. Our instructional team is passionate about teaching and enabling student success, so we are thrilled you left the program excited and eager to continue learning and growing as a web developer - we also think CJ is pretty fantastic!
We're glad that you found the interview prep and salary negotiation portions of our career services helpful! While we do not secure direct employment for our students, we work to empower them with the necessary resources and support they need to enter the workforce. We strive to be clear about the scope of our career services assistance, so students can maximize this aspect of the course. We are constantly refining our professional development to best help students, so we appreciate you sharing this feedback. Let me get this out of the way: you get what you put into this program. You need to commit the time and effort in order to be successful, like anything else. Now, let me explain why this program made it easier for me to grasp the copious amount of information that is jammed into the short six months. The instructors and TAs. Both of my instructors and all of the TAs were so helpful. They went completely out of their way to help out anytime I needed it. Rather it be by coming in early and staying late or hosting off-hour live tutorials a few times a month. I cannot express enough how great this program is.
My main instructor was Mark and the other instructor was Scott. Both of them were absolutely fantastic but my instructor review will primarily be about Mark. Mark is a maestro (or wizard) at coding. He is able to break down the most difficult concepts and explain it in a way that was easy to understand and apply to activities and projects. Mark constantly held off-hour online tutorials for anyone to join to go over the extremely difficult portions of the content. He actually received the Teaching Excellence Award and rightfully so. The man is better than a majority, if not all, of my professors from my undergraduate program. Everyone wants you to succeed and will go out of their way to help you.
I am still in contact with the job assistance team that is offered through this program. Jobs were constantly sent over to me throughout the program and after. Having received many offers and accepting a new job; they check in periodically to see how I am fairing. Which solidifies my statement on how much they truly care. If you're ready to give 110% I would recommend this to you.

I had a great experience with Northwestern Boot Camp. I attended a full time program this winter at the Downtown Chicago campus. My instructor CJ was extremely knowledgable in the subject matter and presented and explained the material very well. She, as well as both of our TAs, were very dedicated to the success of the students in the class. They hosted office hours daily and were available for help outside of the classroom whenever possible. The material and work load was challenging, but manageable as long as you put in the effort. Overall I would recommend this boot camp to anybody interested in and dedicated to learning web development!

A top notch experience

I was hesitant to sign up for a full time bootcamp knowing the hours of attention needed to be successful in/out of class, so when I found out Northwestern had a part time option I went for it.
Interview process was fairly straightforward. If you have done any coding tutorials/research at all and show your interest in web development you will be fine. I was glad I had already come up with all my boot camp questions before answering my phone call from the trilogy recruiter, as the initial phone call is the start of your interview.
Prework is basic enough to not scare you but gives a sneak peak into the basics of what you'll cover over the six or three month course.
If you are starting from zero as I did, I HIGHLY recommend studying as much as possible through resources like Code School and Udemy to gain as much traction as possible and be prepared for what is coming. Having some knowledge of the base concepts in each technology/language we were going to cover in the course absolutely helped in completing assignments and understanding the material.
My instructor was hands down one of the BEST instructors I've ever had in my life. The encouragement, support, and knowledge he had of anything we discussed was outstanding. He knew exactly when the class needed some emotional support and a pep talk and was honest about his own experience in job seeking and pushing through the discouraging and encouraging parts of entering this job path. My instructor took time to prepare review sessions during office hours, build applications from scratch, and recorded videos on his own if we ran out of time during official class hours. Just enough fun to keep my attention but serious enough to get the work done. It is obvious he genuinely cares about the success of every single student who enters his classroom. I cannot say enough good things about the instruction I had.
Research instructors and read reviews if possible to find an instructor whose teaching style works for you. Everyone is different, and having an instructor that fits well with your learning style is essential to being successful.
Career services is the only part of the course that felt disorganized. The career services isn't necessarily anyone within your city (same goes for your tutor, if you use them--I had a fantastic experience once I got a TA directly linked to the Northwestern Triology program), and I think it would have been more beneficial to have interacted and built a relationship with one career advisor throughout the course instead of being passed around to multiple people. Comments on my online portfolio and resume seemed a little robotic.
Other than that -- amazing experience. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a career change or to upgrade their current skillset. I am a little terrified to begin the job search but feel like I have a lot of people rooting for me.

Thank you for this detailed review, CG! We are incredibly happy to hear that your experience was everything we strive so hard to provide. Your observations about the program are extremely helpful for future students to know. We understand our curriculum is intensive and requires serious dedication. Like you suggested, completing the pre-work before the first day of class, as well as staying on top of the coursework, is essential for mastering the concepts and skills.

We think the instructional team is pretty amazing too! We carefully select our teaching staff to ensure students receive the support and attention they need, so we are thrilled you felt valued and highly encouraged throughout every step of the way.

I am so glad I took the leap and enrolled in this bootcamp. I went from truly having 0 skills to calling myself an intermediate level developer thanks to the amazing instructional team at Northwestern. The instructors are passionate and knowledgeable. The learning is fully immersive, so you aren't just reading articles or watching videos, you are coding real-life problems. The technologies taught are definitely on point with the job market. A bonus of the program was learning agile methodologies and actually getting that experience working on real projects with other students, to mimic a work environment. In the end I walked away with a strong portfolio, and more importantly, a passion for software development and knowledge of how to keep learning and growing as a developer. The Career Services staff are great also - now that I have graduated they call me weekly to discuss my job search and help me prep responses to interview questions. I feel that I got a great value from the course and will be forever grateful that I went to the Northwestern Coding Bootcamp!

My overall experience with NU's coding bootcamp was definitely a positive one. Not quite 100% what I expected, but I would recommend it to anyone looking to gain programming knowledge, and switch careers or expand in their current career. The curriculum was very useful, being a full-stack js program, and we were given a really valuable skill of how to go about learning things on our own. I believe we also got really lucky in our instructor who was part of the team that sets the curriculum for the program, who was able to gauge how we as a class was progressing and adjust the material accordingly. I do feel very empowered to go out and be a programmer after the program, and that is fully credited to our instructional team and Student Success Manager.

I completed the part time bootcamp back in October.
I just want to say - you get what you put in. If you aren't going to attend or do not try to complete homework. . . indeed you are not going to understand anything and you are going to waste your time and moneny. That's your fault though - honestly if i can complete this bootcamp so can you. It doesn't take a genius to learn this. It just takes dedication and commitment.
If you actually use the resources that they give you - like the four teaching assistants, multiple tutor(s) or success manager - you shouldn't have to drop out. But everyone has their own reason.
Also some major points on why i gave the # of stars for each rating.
- Job Assistance
- I completed the bootcamp 4 months ago and I still get messages from the success manager
- my peers were helping each other find jobs for the first month or two after the bootcamp ended
- Instructors
- the Lead Instructors have 10+ years of experience as developers/software engineers
- the two lead's taught us tools outside the curriculum - like how to make a webpack.config.js file from scratch and flexbot
- the TA's were either QA's, Testers or Javascript Developers - that also attended a bootcamp elsewhere(like devbootcamp)
- the Lead Instructors have 10+ years of experience as developers/software engineers
- Curriculum
- You can't complain about curriculum. . . It's pretty much the same everywhere you go. . .
- It was cheaper attending here - especially with the early registration discount($500-$1000)
- even though curriculum is the same everywhere - our lead instructors for the most part tried teaching us new material during office hours (half a hour before class)
- Overall
- You can not go wrong with this bootcamp.
- Price is a lot cheaper then other places
- Curriculum is the same as elsewhere
- Instructors are very experienced
- Job assistance is there to help - as long as you talk to them
- You can not go wrong with this bootcamp.

Wouldn't recommend this boot camp

After sitting half way thought the course, I realized why the boot camp is only 9-grand. In comparison to other top coding boot camps that are in the 12k to 16k range, the curriculum just pushed out example codes for students and the instructor just read off what the code is doing. I think my instructor probably personally wrote about 4 lines of codes during the four months that I was in the course. There were many times where we sat in the classroom in an awkward 30-minute of silence, while we wait for the instructor to figure out his errors. For our technical interview prep, we did nothing that would help us through a white-board test. Instead we got into groups of four and came up with strategies on how to figure out what was Walmart's best-selling item. Never will I need to know that Walmart sells the most BANANAS ever again. It was completely useless and a waste of time. I decided to drop out, as it was not worth the time and fitting into my busy schedule. You can get the same learning in this boot camp, signing up for Team Tree House for 25 bucks a month. Do some research on your instructor’s background before signing up for any coding boot camp. I wouldn’t recommend this program for anyone who already has some technical skills.

Hi Vanaro,
Thank you for providing us with your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you felt our curriculum and course instruction did not help you acquire the skills you were looking for. Our instructors come from a variety of backgrounds in professional web development and often have varied teaching styles. That's why our classes are recorded for quality assurance. Also, weekly feedback forms allow us to hear directly from students to make sure they are on pace and receiving the assistance they need. For students who need additional help, we provide academic support in the form of free tutoring sessions, online and in-person office hours, individual support from instructors and TAs, and optional one-on-one meetings with student support or career services team members.
This course is a boot camp, so as you mention, it does require a significant time commitment both in and outside of class in order to get the most out of the program. We're sorry that our class times and outside coursework requirements did not work with your schedule as an undergraduate student. We understand that you have chosen to become an active-non-participatory student at this time. We would like the opportunity to speak with you so that we can provide any additional assistance or support that you may require. Please contact me directly at (312) 416-9979 so that we can further address your concerns. -

Worst Idea

I completed the first two months of this course and just dropped out. It was the worst idea I have ever had and regret nothing more in my life than wasting 9 grand on this "course." If you are an academic that desires deep learning do not take this; it is glossary at best. I will admit the instructor was wonderful, talented, kind, and empathetic; a truly talented educator with a great attitude. Sadly this wasn't enough to alleviate my frustration with the hyper compressed teaching method. You cannot learn Javascript in two weeks.
The person who initially "sold" this course to me over the phone was rude and predatory; making me feel like the course didn't need me and that i had to rush getting them the payment or else. This is just a sales technique and please don't buy into it like I did. Everyone I dealt with through the entire process, except the instructor, was amazingly rude and unprofessional.
This program is designed to produce a robotic coding workforce with no interest in the conceptual or creative side of coding, which I naively thought wouldn't be the case.
The mindless indoctrination of a military boot camp bodes as salient here, just saying.Dartaniel Bliss of Northwestern Boot Camps

Hi MS,
We know the importance of instructor selection, so we're glad that you found your instructor to be a caring and talented educator. But, we always strive for total student satisfaction, so we are sorry to hear that you did not have an overall positive experience with our program.
This is an immersive boot camp, and the pace is designed to be fast in order to teach students a very wide set of skills in 24 weeks. Rather than spending extended periods of time on one particular language, we pride ourselves on teaching students how to learn, by giving them key foundational skills and a high-level understanding of a variety of topics. By equipping students with the necessary coding foundation, students are prepared to continue expanding their knowledge outside of class and learn new languages more quickly on their own even after the program ends.
Our students begin to learn JavaScript early in the program and continue to work on JavaScript for effectively the full scope of the program. Rather than simply learning JavaScript for the two weeks when the topic is initially covered, students iteratively improve their skills and understanding with each subsequent week.
While the course is challenging, as the curriculum progresses, most students do feel more confident in the knowledge they have gained. There is also extensive support available along the way to assist students, as well as free supplemental resources and hackathons. Because we understand that this is a difficult program, we provide students with access to a free tutor network and additional support from instructors through office hours and Slack. Were you able to take advantage of these additional resources?
We also appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on our enrollment process. While we may encourage applicants to enroll early in order to receive early registration pricing and also make it clear that enrollment is a first-come, first-served basis, it is never our intention to make students feel rushed in their decision. We believe the decision to join such an intensive program is one that should not be taken lightly, and we always try to make sure that only students who are prepared for this rigorous experience enroll in the program.
Please allow us the opportunity to speak with you to further address your concerns and discuss any additional support that we can provide you with at this time. Please contact me directly at (312) 416-9979. -

I'm currently enrolled in the program and with a couple months left to go I was able to land a job that will have me using skills I learned in this bootcamp.
I personally would say that a statement like "you get what you put in" can be misleading, it does take a lot of hard work to get the most out of this program. The reason I feel that it can be misleading is because "you get what you put in" to me used to sound a lot like me having to learn on my own and a stack full of books trying to navigate blindly.
NWB has so many resources available that really do help you succeed. You just have to take advantage of them. There are two tutors per class (aside from the instructor), there is access to office hours and there is an additional out of class tutor that is available for personal 1 on 1 sessions. Additionally, each class is recorded and made available to students. Our instructor Rich is amazingly detailed and really cares about how he teaches and engages students. Dartaniel was equally helpful in communicating with me to make sure that I was well prepared.
Days are long and weekends are short but truly worthwhile if you want to change career paths or gain new skills.

I had a great experience with this boot camp. It was a grueling 6 months, but what I learned was worth every minute. The content was taught effectively and meticulously. Given this program is relatively new, there were of course a few aspects that could have been more organized.
The course requires two sets of homework, coding and career. While the coding homework was incredibly beneficial and absolutely crucial in the development of truly grasping the concepts, the career assignments lacked ingenuity. I would have appreciated more interview prep, rather than repeatedly updating my resume. Aside from that, I learned more during this program than I did in my time as a full-time student at UIC.
One of the major advantages here was the group work. We had to complete three group projects throughout the course, and those experiences were invaluable. Learning to work with others on new material forced us to learn skills that directly translate to office life.
If you’re looking to become a qualified developer in a short period of time, this boot camp is for you.

Participating in the Northwestern Bootcamp took my development skills to a new level. The curriculum is solid and covers a broad array of information. The real value of the program is the team environment. The student success manager and instructional team were incredible and made sure the class was professional / well run. They created a collegial atmosphere that made the experience truly enjoyable. For me, the connections I made with my cohort classmates are as valuable as the dev skills I gained. Highly recommend.

First thing I want to say that what I am today is because of this "Bootcamp". I wanted to join this course to learn advance coding as I already had some experience in coding. I had no idea how this course would help me. I enrolled based on the topics they listed they are going to teach.
When I went for my first class I saw the students are totally from different backgrounds and different experience levels. It was kind of intimidating for me as many students know a lot more than me but at the same time there were people like me who just know the very basics. But amazingly, The curriculum was design in such a way that each individual can learn.
They started with basic excerises to explain the concepts and then they had advance activities which every student has to do in group. So I particularly like to work in group, as I was not only learning to code but also learning how to work with the team as a developer.
No doubt its a intense course, But I signed for it. I had to work 30+ hours outside the class but its worth it. Its amazing that in 6 months we covered front-end, back-end along with 3 different databases.
This bootcamp is not at all about the boring theoritical lectures. They introduce a tool to you and then let you play with it. Everything is practical learning based. We had to make 3 projects during the course which was awesome!!! Because I never thought I will be able to do that in just 6 months. I feel great!
For instructors, TA's and SSM, I would say they were the very strong pillars in my journey through out this course. They were very keen/interested to help me at any point. Apart from teaching, They are good mentors, coaches, moral boosters and good at pep talks too :-).
They all do anything you want to succeed but its finally up to you that how much you want it. I wanted it and I get it!
Cheers to the Team!!!

Hi PSewak,
We really appreciate you taking the time to leave us your review. We're glad that you enjoyed our course curriculum and structure, as well as the inclusion of group projects. We believe it is important for our students to gain experience working with a team just as they will in the real-world as professional web developers.

Before I enrolled in this class I read a bunch of bootcamp reviews and looked into many programs. I rarely read reviews about anything because their inherent subjectivity, but this was a big investment for me so I thought I'd check around. I was surprised how dramatically diverse the opinions were from person to person, even those who were in the same program.
I think it all comes down to expectations. Those who expected this or any bootcamp program to magically make them a developer have a bad experience because they find out there is no such thing as a magic pill. There is only hard work, determination, and tenacity. This program gives you plenty of the tools, resources, instructions, direction, material, and support to turn you into a competent computer programmer, you just have to do the work to get there.
Coding isn't easy, and becoming a full-stack developer is tough. There are full college classes that only go over HTML and CSS alone but bootcamps try and teach you HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript, JQuery, MySQL, Firebase, Node, React, NPM, Handlebars, GitHub and more in just about the same amount of time. This material didn't come naturally to me and I would spend 30+ hours a week outside of class coding. But through good direction and hard work I was able to become a competent web developer.
The teachers at Northwestern are amazing, the TA's are great, the material is methodical and well thought-out (maybe a little extra fluff, I'm looking at you Handlebars!), and the exercises are practical and challenging. Overall, looking at this as an investment, in terms of ROI, it was the most pragmatic educational decision I’ve made in a while. My undergrad cost four years of my life and $70k+, the only skill that I tenuously learned was econometrics. This bootcamp cost me $10k, and six months, and I learned more tangible skills here than I can count.
Northwestern will give you the structure and resources to be successful, but your success comes down to you. You will get out what you put in.

Dysfunctional Bootcamp

This boot camp has been a truly horrendous experience. To begin with, Northwestern has absolutely nothing to do with this boot camp besides lending their name and classroom space. The entire program is run by a company called Trilogy Education Services. Our current classroom learning has been so underwhelming (please read other listed reviews) that Trilogy sent the regional vice president into our classroom for an audit. That should tell you right there how bad of an experience it has been and how poor our entire class is performing. Two days later, I received a phone call from the vice president, who informed me that they would be extending some class resources for our boot camp as well as personally offering me the opportunity to retake the boot camp at no additional charge. It was made clear that this last opportunity was not extended to the entire class. I find it highly suspicious and poor business practices to call individual students to work out private deals. It makes me wonder what may have been offered to other students.
For me, retaking the course is not an option. If the course is so fundamentally flawed that I need to be offered to take it all over again, then obviously Trilogy is readily admitting that the course does not meet their own boot camp standards. I do not see how going through the entire 3 month program again is expected to produce different results the second time around. So I will be leaving this boot camp with a certificate in name only and no real learning as promised.
So, if you wish to go to this boot camp, please be advised that it is Northwestern in name only, they have absolutely nothing to do with the curriculum nor career services. The current full-time class is “graduating” with such a low level of skill and ability that they have to offer additional resources including retaking the entire course. Finally, even when they realize they have a severe problem on their hands, their damage control business practices of calling students to work out personal side deals is in my opinion very poor way to do business.

Hi Brett,
We are sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience with our program. Your feedback is very important to us as it helps us to improve the student experience. I loved it! I really needed the guidance of a bootcamp program to develop my coding skills, and I got that here. I'm not sure that the class content goes far beyond what one could get at an online course or tutorial, but the way it was provided and the supportive staff were incredibly helpful. The instructors and teaching assistants were real developers, so we learned from people who knew the course material and also had practical, real-world knowledge of what they taught.
The career assistance during the course was great, but I particularly valued the post-graduation career advising. It was nice to know that I could still reach out to someone even after the course had ended and the job search had begun.
It was a very welcoming environment for people of all types, and everyone I met in the program was wonderful! I'm glad I had the chance to take this course.

The reason I chose the bootcamp at Northwestern University over any other bootcamp was that the part-time schedule meant that I could still keep my full-time job and the other reason was that the professors teaching the course are full-time professionals. I highly recommend taking going through the Northwestern bootcamp. It's challenging at times and you will spend a few all-nighters working on projects but if you keep up on the weeks that are not so busy, you will be fine. If your goal is to find a job after the program, be prepared to spend a good amount of time outside of classes studying algorithms and data structures. Overall, it is what you make of it. If you are going to spend the time and money to attend then make sure to utilize all the resources from the TA's to the career advisors, it really pays off.

Going into this program, I didn't know what to expect. I had some programming experience before, but it was in an academic setting so I didn't have a reference point for a professional development program. What I ended up experiencing in this program was a model that worked. The curriculum was reverse-engineered from what employers expected their web developers to know. The approach to learning was hands-on and project-based.
From the start to the finish line, we were running, putting forward 110%. An important factor of this program was that it's a boot camp. So it was fast, rigorous, and challenging. Even though I was able to keep up with little struggle, I was well-aware that my programming experience, albeit limited, gave me some advantage in keeping up with the material.
Oh yeah, and the instructor was one of the best instructors I've had in my life. He didn't just teach the material well, he motivated and pushed us to be the best versions of ourselves. This level of support made the program worthwhile to me.
Of course, I came into this program hoping to switch careers after it completed. The career counselor was helpful and supportive in every step of the process-- from resume building to finding opportunities to mock interviews. He was good at what he did and made himself available to help students at any time they needed it (really, any time of the day or year). He helped me get the job.
The instructors and counselors made it clear that the more we put into the program and the job search, the more we would get out of it. When it came down to supporting us and advising us, they were there and really put in their time, attention, and care. However, it was on me to do my part by completing the projects, asking questions, and trying hard to get the job. Would I recommend this program? If you can do it (and don't doubt yourself), then go for this program. You will get something out of it.

The skills this program gave me were exactly what the market is looking for. Before I graduated I had 3 offers as a data analyst.
That said you really need ot invest ALOT of time if you do this bootcamp out of class, be prepared for many late nights and having no social life during the course.
The program does cover data science but does not go into great detail, the majority of it is learning how to code and then the last few weeks cover machine learning.

I found my Bootcamp experience to be highly undesirable. If you have technical knowledge of any sort in the realm of computer science/web development then this course is definitely not worth the money.
The program focuses only on front-end development and briefly touches back-end technologies but nothing close to providing enough information to work in a professional setting. You will learn the very basics of storing data, little to no python and just enough to connect your front/backend. There is no emphasize on best-practices that are necessary for industrial work. You are simply paying to be branded with Northwestern on your resume.
The program starts out by covering the very basics of HTML and some outdated methods of styling webpages such as "floats". The beginning of the course starts out very thorough explaining trivial concepts in depth but as the course progresses to complicated concepts, it becomes very "hand-wavy." There is a large emphasis on outdated technologies such as templating languages and engines. Things that are very popular for today's industry such as React/Vue/Angular are bushed over.
Teaching assistants are recent graduates of the program, who for the most part are not concerned about helping students but finding different jobs.
If you reach out to the program for additional information, be warned that they will spam call you once a day to attempt you to fork over your money.
The job assistance I found to be quite useless. It seemed to be a strong selling point for the program but if you've worked as a professional previously then the behavioral interview preparation portion will be useless. There are practice technical interviews which are useful. You can also go to meetups and get the same experience for free. Brand statements, elevator pitches, resume reviews were other subjects that were touched on but did not seem to cover anything beyond standard information you can find online.
If you are driven enough you can learn the entire curriculum plus some additional content from freeCodeCamp, without wasting a dime. Udemy is also a great place that I found had much more valuable content. If you need the structure of a classroom then a boot camp is a great viable option. There are some fantastic boot camps out there, but this is not one of them.

Thank you for your review. We regret to hear you were unsatisfied with your student experience. It's our mission to help as many hard-working, aspiring web developers as we can, so our program is designed for individuals with varying levels of proficiency — ranging from beginners to more experienced professionals, like yourself.
We understand you would have liked to spend more time focusing on Python, React, Vue.js, Angular, and additional back-end technologies. Our curriculum overview does indicate that Python is briefly covered, as part of our regional content. Additionally, the course focuses on the MERN stack: an open-source JavaScript web app stack, standing for MongoDB, Express, React, and Node.js. Half of the program is devoted to exploring these four popular back-end frameworks. Consequently, we are unable to delve into Angular or Vue.js.
Our course material is based on extensive market research, teaching in-demand skills that students can use to enter the current tech field, and we are proud of our ability to frequently make necessary optimizations. Northwestern is deeply involved in the curriculum and outcomes for all of their programs, continually monitoring classroom performance to ensure student success. We appreciate your feedback as we are constantly working on improving our curriculum to ensure participants are learning the most valuable skills and concepts.
As this is a boot camp, we do our best to communicate to students that because we cover a full-stack, topics are introduced at a high-level in-class. We pride ourselves on teaching individuals how to learn, providing a strong foundation of skills that will allow them to easily dive into other programming languages, even after the course ends. This helps participants learn how to problem-solve and self-teach; crucial abilities needed in any real-world role.
Like you mentioned, we encourage individuals who are dedicated and successfully complete the program themselves to apply for a TA position. These alumni are able to assist and guide other learners, as they have first-hand experience with the boot camp journey. We sincerely care about our students and always want them to feel supported, and as such, take input like yours seriously.
Our career services team is built on the principle of empowerment. This experience is focused on helping students become Employer Competitive and includes six pillars of support. Previous participants with significant background experience have found 1:1 coaching with their Career Director (a service that begins right before course completion) to be helpful. Did you find this to be beneficial? Although we're glad to hear you enjoyed the practice technical interviews, it seems you did not have an opportunity to participate in the entire career services experience. We're frequently enhancing our professional development assistance to ensure students have access to all our available offerings, so your feedback is valuable to us.
Your experience does not end upon completing the program, and we look forward to providing continued career support during the initial stages of your job pursuit. We would love to speak to you personally to see if there is anything else we can do to reinforce your knowledge or employment search. If you would like, please reach out to us at (312) 416-9979. -

Northwestern in name only

Agree with many of the other commenters on here - this thing is Northwestern in name only and run by a company called Trilogy Education Services. Trilogy is all over the place with quality - our cohorts instructor seemed like they had just graduated from a bootcamp themselves and were not prepared to teach. At the same time, another cohort had a great instructor but I wasn't able to switch to it.
I'm not confident in what I can build and I think I'm one of the stronger students in the class. Our counselors keep telling us that the market is very good for web developers but I've checked with previous graduates and am not hearing good things for Trilogy grads.
Also, Trilogy isn't sharing any results of how graduates are doing with students (or staff as far as I can tell). Have heard very few success stories.
Stay far away.

Hi Anonymous, thank you for taking the time to share your review. Like you mentioned, the Northwestern School of Professional Studies has partnered with Trilogy Education Services (TES) to develop the Northwestern Coding Boot Camp. TES is the leading workforce accelerator in the United States and is partnered with more than 35 leading universities to expand access to coding education for working adults in the local community. Northwestern is deeply involved in the curriculum, instructor selection, and outcomes for all of their programs. Both Northwestern and TES are fully transparent about this partnership through their websites, marketing materials, admissions process, enrollment materials, and throughout the entire course experience. Our main priority is and will continue to be to enable student success, and as such we meet every week to monitor classroom performance.
We regret your instructional experience did not meet your expectations. We have an intensive vetting process, requiring a minimum of three years' experience as an active practitioner in the tech industry and hire professionals in lieu of traditional professors to best simulate real-life working environments. Northwestern vets every instructor that teaches in our boot camp programs, with fewer than 2.5% of all screened candidates selected. Before introducing themselves in the classroom, every instructor receives training and is continually evaluated based on video audits of their teaching and classroom assessments. Additionally, we request students to submit feedback on instructor clarity, engagement, and knowledgeability in order to ensure all individuals are receiving the best experience possible. We value our instructor's skills and efforts toward keeping our curriculum in-line with the latest market demands, however, we understand not all teaching styles will resonate with every individual student.
We're continually impressed by our students and what they're able to achieve. In the past year, graduates of our boot camp have been hired by companies in Chicago like IBM, Accenture, Expedia, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Bing, Hertz, American Eagle, HomeChef, Sprout Social, and many more. Our services are constantly evolving based on participant input, though, so we appreciate you sharing your insight.
It's our goal for all individuals to leave the program feeling prepared for and confident about the job search, so we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you to further address your concerns and provide any additional career planning assistance you may need at this time. Please contact us directly at (312) 416-9979. Thank you for your review and we wish you all the best! -

This coding bootcamp really is only useful and doable if you have already had some degree of coding in your background before. That is to say that I was part of the november cohort and the program heavily emphasizes that you can learn to code with zero experience. During the first few weeks while going through HTML and CSS, it is extremely easy, they spend a lot of time and resources trying to teach you to build and style webpages. After that it goes downhill. At the point that you actually start learning to code, the course removes all useful tools that would make it helpful for new coders to learn Javascript and every other language they teach after. They take away the powerpoints, you spend 10-15 minutes at the start of class being asked to do exercises for new concepts you have not learned which in turn means you spend 15 minutes of class lost, at some point the entire 3 hours of class becomes all activity even for concepts you haven't been introduced to, and there are only 2 TAs for the entire class plus the instructor so it's close to impossible that everyone will receive guidance during these exercises meaning you're out of luck and just have to wait for the instructor to go over the exercise - which often is not a good explanation and ends with you being told "there's a lot of ways to do this" which is true but not helpful in a class that is supposed to teach you.
The worst part of this all is that there are two cohorts running at the same time and one day out of the week the cohorts come together. It was painfully obvious after a few weeks that one instructor really knew how to teach the concepts, and his students were really able to come to class and demonstrate what they were learning. My cohort often came together with this class and were horrified that they second cohort learned things in advanced that our class didn't get exposed to until we met up with the second cohort and found out we were behind. Basically, you can have two completely different course experiences depending on the instructor which isn't fair to ask professionals to pay $10,000 for a mediocre experience and to know that one class is getting the better deal while the coordinaors ignore the fact that they have an instructor that can't teach leading one of their courses.
I have not been able to recommend this course to others and I genuinely believe that if you are new to coding, you should spend time using some free resources online to familiarize yourself with some coding concepts because this course will drive right over you and end before you know it. None of the assignments are orignal and you can literally google the assignments and see that every other coding bootcamp does the same assignments so to do this course at Norhthwestern SPS you're really doing it in hopes of name recognition. Before signing up, I'd ask them about the completetion rates, attrition, and graduate placements to find out the success of the program.

Hi Anonymous, thank you for taking the time to leave us your review, we really appreciate you sharing your personal feedback. We regret your experience did not meet your expectations. Our course is designed to benefit individuals across a wide range of proficiency levels, ranging from those who may have more experience to novice self-starters. As you mentioned, the boot camp model is rigorous and fast-paced, and we cover a great deal of knowledge in a limited amount of time. We do our best to communicate to students that because we cover a full-stack, topics are introduced at a higher level in-class, after which students are expected to dive in and not only gain a deeper understanding of the concepts but practice their skills outside of the classroom. This helps students learn how to problem-solve and self-teach, key strengths in a developer role. While similar topics may be covered online, we pride ourselves on our reversed engineered curriculum developed using unique exercises and projects.
While the course is challenging, as the curriculum progresses, most students do feel more confident in the knowledge they have gained. There is also extensive support available along the way to assist students, as well as free supplemental resources. Because we understand that this is a difficult program, we do provide office hours and various other avenues for outside help including tutoring, in-person and virtual office hours, Slack, email, and phone. Were you able to benefit from these resources? By having one instructor and two TAs per class, we try to provide a low student to instructor ratio to make sure students feel properly guided. Our team is constantly working on improving our instructional support to ensure students have the best learning experience possible, so we appreciate your insight on the matter.
Our program has an intensive vetting process and requires a minimum of three years’ experience in the tech field. Instructors may come from a variety of backgrounds within the web development field and will often have different teaching styles, as such we understand not all students will have the same exact experience. We are constantly striving to improve the classroom experience through a variety of practices including weekly student feedback forms, video audits of the classroom, and instructor coaching sessions. The November cohort you participated in expressed overall positive sentiments regarding your instructor's improved ability to connect with students and properly relay course material. We found your instructor continually encouraged your class throughout the entire program duration and was also able to convey supplemental learning tools and resources. We hope you were able to find this instructional improvement to be beneficial. The in-classroom experience aims at equally equipping all students and cohorts to obtain the best learning experience possible, so we truly value your insight. We deeply care about the quality and integrity of our program, as well as each and every single one of our students.
It's our goal for all students to leave the program feeling confident in their skills, so we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you and determine what additional assistance we can provide at this time. Please reach out to me directly at (312) 416-9979 so we can further address your concerns and any questions you may have. -

Good for a new skills, but not a new job

I attended one of the first of Trilogy's cohorts at Northwestern Coding Boot Camp. I have evaluated the course based on the criteria provided here.
Instructors: My primary instructor was nothing to write home about. He seemed to be a strong coder, but didn't have much of a knack for instruction. He'd often seem underprepared for lectures and make answers to students' questions more complicated than necessary. He was serviceable, but I would have preferred a more natural educator. The other cohort's instructor, who often taught the conjoined Saturday classes, was spectacular. He knew how to communicate the content of the course in ways anyone could understand, and was able to teach specific principles while also tying them into the bigger picture.
Curriculum: Both the layout of the course and the slides used in lectures were pre-created by Trilogy. They seemed like a pretty solid overview of full-stack Javascript development. The lessons moved logically from basic HTML/CSS into JS, Node, SQL, React, and the rest. There was a break during the course for about a week of Python instruction, which seemed like a waste, as it was barely enough time to learn basic syntax and a few functions. That time could have been used to give complicated end-of-course technologies like React more time to be properly explained. Beyond that, I feel the curriculum could have benifitted from a bit more conceptual learning. I get that the best way to learn to code for many is by doing, but theoretical knowledge is still a big part of the interview process, and while there were occasional exercises geared toward this, it did not feel like it was enough.
Job Assistance: This is the aspect of the course that really did not live up to expectations. The head of career assistance came across as condescending, and didn't feel particularly helpful during nor after the course. I was put under the impression that the career resources would play a large role after the end of the course, including practice interviews, coaching and more. I experienced very little of this. I was primarily put in contact with a remote assistant, who mostly sent the cohort a few online leads every few days (which could easily be found from a simple LinkedIn/Angel search). They would check in with me every week or so to see how my job hunt was going, and despite not having results, would offer little feedback. I figured that being connected to Northwestern University would lead to networking opportunities, but beyond a few visiting lecturers throughout the course and a mixer just after graduation, I was put in contact with few people out in the field.
Overall Experience: I would consider myself a model student in this course. I came to class prepared, went above and beyond in my homework assignments, and took time outside of class to dive deeper into the curriculum. By the time I finished, I was able to create a full-stack React website (albeit maybe not the prettiest/most efficient one) by myself, and I am proud of that. However, after 10 months of applying to jobs post-graduation, I finally had to give up and accept a non-technical position. The course inspired me to continue to develop myself as a coder, but I doubt if I will be able to obtain a job in the field without additional formal education. Overall, I appreciate what I learned, but as someone who wanted a new career, I can't say that this course did what I wanted it to do.

Hi Anonymous,
We first want to congratulate you on your dedication to this rigorous program! We hope you’re proud of all of the hard work you put into completing this course, and all that you have accomplished with your skills. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us, as we consider each review as an opportunity for improvement.
As you noted, Northwestern has partnered with Trilogy Education Services, a continuing education program manager that provides a proven and innovative curriculum across more than 25 top universities nationwide. This partnership allows our students to learn about the latest technologies in an environment that fosters lifelong learning. It is an evolving curriculum informed by employers in our network from across the country and market demands.
We appreciate you choosing our program for an accelerated environment in which to learn new web development skills. As you noted, we hire active practitioners with a minimum of three years experience in the field in lieu of formal professors to best simulate real-life working environments. We strive to provide strong and supportive guidance in our classes, and classes are recorded for quality assurance to ensure students are receiving the best learning experience possible. We understand that instructors and students are not always a perfect match, but we are glad to hear that your main instructor was efficient in teaching you new skills and that you especially enjoyed the other cohort's instructor. We love our staff and admire their passion for coding and teaching.
It's great to know that you found the program structure helpful. As this is a boot camp, our curriculum is fast-paced and designed to cover multiple concepts in a limited amount of time. We understand you would have liked to spend more time focusing on previously covered technologies like React rather than getting an introduction to Python. Our program prides itself on teaching students how to learn, giving students a strong foundation that they can use to then master other programming languages after graduation. Because of the market demand for this technology, our curriculum opts to provide students with a high-level overview of Python that they can use to continue learning it outside of class. However, we are constantly working on improving our curriculum to ensure students are learning the most valuable technologies—so we truly appreciate you sharing this feedback.
We regret to hear that our career support was not what you were hoping for. Our professional development services are built on the principle of empowerment. We know job seeking is difficult and strenuous, which is why we encourage students to submit a number of quality applications on a weekly basis; this increases the possibilities of securing a well-matched position and encourages professional networking. While we do not secure direct employment for our students, we empower them the best we can with the necessary tools and support for entering the job market, including resume support, portfolio reviews, 1:1 coaching, and technical interview training. Did you find these helpful? We sincerely appreciate your feedback regarding our career support and want you to know that we’re still here to assist you in whatever way we can. We’d love to hear from you directly to see what else we can do at this time to help you feel equipped for the job search and best meet your expectations. Please reach out to me at (312) 416-9979 to discuss how we can further prepare you for success.
Thank you again for taking the time to leave your review. We wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavors! -

You'll Regret It

I took this bootcamp in hopes of getting a good education and foundation for coding. I was really excited about the different topics being covered. The entirety of this bootcamp from start to finish was a collousal waste of my time and money.
1. Job Assitance
1. Some lady in Texas sends you postings from various job websites.
2. No real person in front of you to help you find jobs. I can do this shit on my own. You'll be told, during the sign up phase, it's Northwestern's career services on campus.
2. Signing up
1. These people will blow up your phone trying to get you to sign up. You will be pressured into making a payment ASAP.
2. They will tell you lies such as a promise of Northwestern's (not Trilogy's) career services, the curriculum and overall quality of education.
3. Instructors
1. Imagine a grown man throwing a fit because students cannot learn from him. Just imagine someone who is having difficulty conveying an explanation and getting mad at his students for not understanding.
2. When we experienced issues with the instructor we alerted our student success manager ( the one replying to everyone on course report. he was well aware of all the issues written on this page... I'm annoyed we're getting the poliet "please contact me to discuss concerns" when we did exactly that DURING the course so stop acting so oblivious and trying to save face for prospective students that are reading these). The success manager would let the instructor know and you can bet your first child that we would be geting a weird awkward attitude from the instructor the next day. At times, the instructor was even told what student complained and the instructor was especially bitchy to those particular students. It was a soap opera.
4. Curriculum
1. Another student said it best on here. The instructor reads off code and tries to explain it. I don't know why they figured this was the best practice. I didn't learn anything from looking at a bunch of code I've never seen before and have someone struggle to explain it awkwardly. Like seriously wtf.
2. The brochure that I was given about the curriculum had things we were never taught. Yes we asked why we were skipping these thngs. I can't remember the vague BS answer we were given.
3. I have friends who did other bootcamps. This is trash compared to the other ones. Don't be me and waste 10k and 3 months of your life.
4. It was cheaper attending here - especially with the early registration discount ($500-$1000). So if you'd like throw $9000-$9500 in a dumpster fire as I felt I did then maybe this would be right for you. Seriously I dont care about a discount I'm here to learn and get a quality education. I did not at all sign up because it was cheaper. $9000 IS NOT CHEAP. I'm not the type of person to have 9 grand lying around to gamble. I was totally down to throw $16,000 at a bootcamp but the Northwestern quality and all the lies really sold me on the program. My next point (shadyness) really sums everything up.
5. Shadyness
1. This is Trilogy not Northwestern no matter how much they try to sell you that this is all Northwestern. I never heard of Trilogy until the first day of class. Please stop lying to students when you are trying to get them to sign up. Shady business practices.
2. This weird thing where the student success manager is responding to everyone on course report to address their concerns when we literally spoke with him about these exact issues in person during the course of the program. You were well aware of all the issues. This is weird stop it.
3. The course was a compelte fuck up and they knew it so they had someone come in from their head office to see what was going on. Select students were offered the opportunity to retake the course while others were offered a crash course, tutoring and some other crap. You should've addressed our concerns from the get go and given us what we paid for. Brett's review of the course really articulates this drama beautifully.
All in all I'm mad and feel that a great alternative to the bootcamp (while saving you a ton of money!) is Udemy. You get a 30 day money back guarentee and it's $10 a course. Plus the instructors know how to teach! Not some man baby who gets offended when people (politely and with sincerity) ask him to change up his teaching style.
FYI if you any specific questions about the course feel free to message me on here I'll give you an honest answer.

We really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us. Feedback like this helps us learn how we can improve the boot camp student experience. We're sorry to hear that your time in our program did not provide you with the guidance and support you were looking for in a web development course.
In order to provide students with real-world insights into the web development industry, we hire active practitioners with a minimum of three years in the field in lieu of formal professors. However, because our instructors come from a variety of professional backgrounds, we know that they will often have different teaching styles and that not all instructors will fit the needs of every student. Our classes are recorded for quality assurance, and weekly feedback forms allow us to hear directly from students to make sure they are on pace and receiving a favorable teaching experience. From these surveys, we have observed that a large majority of students have been satisfied with their experiences in our programs.
As you note, this program is powered by Trilogy Education Services, a continuing education program manager that partners with over 30 top universities to deliver its proven programs. This partnership is noted on our website, and our admissions and instructional staff do try to make this collaboration clear. Because different individuals will require different levels of support, we do offer varying types of additional help depending on the student's feedback in order to make sure that each person is properly assisted.
We understand that you have shared your feedback and concerns throughout your time in the program, but please allow us another opportunity to speak with you to discuss any and all support that we might be able to provide you with at this time to help equip you for success. Not a good program
I am feeling unprepared and utterly devastated by the education I received in this program. My instructor was extremely poor and I question the process in which they select who is best fit to be an educator for this course. I had several friends interested in taking part in the program and I have warned them to stay away from this particular bootcamp. Look up Trilogy.

Question everything about this program. I felt blindsided when I found out that this program is run by Trilogy not Northwestern. What this means is that the curriculum, instructor and career services are all Trilogy NOT Northwestern. I was expecting a Northwestern level education and instructional staff, I got something that was far from it. This program was a catastrophic failure for me. I'm writing this review because I think people need to know about my experience. I know other people who are taking a different bootcamp and are doing much better then me. I feel like I made an investment in the wrong bootcamp.

Honest Review of the Bootcamp

I am shocked at how terrible this bootcamp has been. I am a little over 2/3 of the way through the course and it has been a disaster. I will be leaving this bootcamp not being confident in anything we have learned. The instructor was horrible and could not teach the topics properly, he would have days where he would be mad at us for not understanding what he is saying. A student dropped the course two months through the course which is very telling. Many of the students are in the same boat and feel as though we've all wasted our money. I'm not lying or joking when I say this program is TERRIBLE. This has been a huge investment that I regret. I wish I went with a more reputable program. The only reason I'm posting this review is because I had extensively researched Northwestern's bootcamp and had seen nothing but positive reviews. I want to warn others of my experience so that they don't go through what I went through. I have already told my friends to go with others programs. I feel like our class is owed a partial refund for how much of an absolute side show this class has been. Heed my warning.
