Part-time Code Immersion

Tech Talent South has been everything I wanted from a bootcamp and more. The material provided in class is concise and well-written, but the best part of my experience has been my interactions with my course instructor, community organizer, and fellow students.
My instructor has been a senior rails developer for years, and he is one of the few instructors I've had throughout any educational institution who has exhibited expertise in the subject matter, effective teaching ability, and legitimate care for how well his students go on to use their newfound knowledge to better their lives once the course has ended. In addition, my community organizer has been an invaluable source of pertinent job assistance and knowledge in what tech meetups are happening in my area. She also took initiative in arranging several meetups and guest speakers for our class specifically as well as finding job opportunities she thought were good fits for us as individuals.
After an initial extra-curricular meetup encouraged by our instructer, my fellow students and I have continued to meet together once a week to code together and share knowledge. This sense of community has helped drive my learning experience forward after the class has ended.
Before I took this course I was intimidated by even trying to search for jobs in the tech industry, but the people involved in this bootcamp have helped me both find where to begin and how to continue growing from that point onwards.
I have no regrets about taking this course, and I recommend it to anyone looking to start coding.

Tech Talent South(TTS) has been a game changing experience for me, I came to the program after leaving behind a career in management. I learn best by immersion and decided to go with TTS after their chief of student success and diversity personally called me to recruit me to the program.
This personal touch, and willingness to build a deep connection is one of the core aspects of the TTS program. Most bootcamps are just that--bootcamps. Tech Talent South is a village.
My instructor is a senior Rails developer at a large corporation here in Dallas, and he became personally invested in my cohorts training. Our community organizer is amazing and will hand pick and send us jobs she thinks we'd be perfect for. Our class has already graduated but we still meet up every week to code together, support one another, and look for work together.
What I learned from TTS moreso than coding(its tough to do this thing Part Time) was the culture and mindset of a professional developer. The knowledge my instructor passed on to me about the Tech Industry and software engineering has been invaluable. We didn't just learn HOW to do things, he taught us WHY and he also taught us WHAT the industry standard is at major corporoations.
I'm confident that with TTS and just one app project I'll be able to get a solid job and that I'll have a community of dedicated, gifted programmers around me for life.

Coming from the medical field and being frustrated with the development cycle as well as the very frustrating technological hurdles concerning the usability, accessability, and research design of the work I was involved in. I decided that a career change was in order to help change spur technological changes in the industry.
With very little experience in coding I decided on TTS as my coding bootcamp of choice due to a recommendation from my friend who had a very positive experience there. The curriculum is fast paced and challenging with extra office hours available to those who need extra help. Along the way I have discovered that I really enjoy the problem solving involved in programming and believe that technology can affect great change in the community.
I enjoy the understanding and journey to self actualization that they have provided for me and am looking forward to a more productive path of work. Everything at TTS has been an enjoyable experience throughout!

The course set up was very nice and the curriculum was well thought out for the amount of time that you have. The class location was very functionable, a little cramped when we have a full class but not overly cramped. ( I am a big fella so that might have contributed to my idea of cramped) The commuity organizer, Taylor Weese, did an excellent job accomadating for everyone and went out of his way to help people with all the things that come up during a boot camp! Jill is a real asset to helping during and after with your resume with timely advice and recommendations. The instructor was very knowledgable on the subject matter and provided excellent documentation of the course lectures and activities. I had three instructors during my boot camp, Clarise and Leslie were awesome and really took time to listen to people and find new ways to help them understand with patience and respect. I would highly suggest this bootcamp to anyone considering learning coding!

I recently completed the Full Time Code Immersion course and am glad that I enrolled. I was a little skeptical about how much you would actually learn in a short amount of time but was pleasantly surprised by just how much knowledge I gained. With that being said, it really is up to you to put in the hours after class everyday to make sense of what you are actually doing. It's easy to follow along with instructions but it won't always stick if you're not taking the time to practice what you are being taught. I enjoyed spending time in the classroom and getting to know the other students. Everyone comes from such different backgrounds so it's nice to have this common ground with everyone. The Community Organizer (Taylor) did a great job with making sense of it all when a few people felt lost. He has taken the class before so he was able to explain how he made sense of it all when he was sitting exactly where we were sitting. You come out of the class with real world projects to add to your portfolio to help show future employers. I would highly reccomend this class to anyone looking to make a transition into the tech world and has an interest in learning to program.

Tech Talent South Review

Pros:
- tremendous support from the teacher and community organizer both in and out of class (office hours, tours, meetups)
- flow of curriculum was well-paced, rigorous, and relevant
- well-rounded exposure to both front-end and back-end languages
- online access to lessons/slides was very helpful for studying
- wonderful alumni communication and support
Cons:
- homework gets a little long/repetitive at times
- students might benefit from a more discovery-based approach to creating an app where they brainstorm what needs to put in place instead of being told
About me and my experience:
I had been a high school teacher for five years when I decided that I wanted to pursue a new career path. I knew I wanted to go into web development, but I wasn't sure how to go about it. I had basically no knowledge or experience. Should I enroll in a university? Should I take classes online? I wasn't sure. Then a friend of mine suggested the Tech Talent South Code Immersion class. It was simply the perfect fit. From being welcomed via email after I enrolled to meeting my instructor on the first day of class, everyone made me feel comfortable and important right away. It was clear that there was a structure of support already in place. I learned tremendously from my teacher and felt like I was really sinking my teeth into relevant information and skills. The community organizer was very enthusiastic and helpful in immersing the students into the code community and helping us make connections that could lead to jobs. I have only been out of my teaching job for six months and I'm already prepared to apply for a job as a developer. I can't thank Tech Talent South enough for making this all possible for me!

I enrolled in the part-time coding immersion program with no prior experience in coding. I thought this class was a very good introduction to many coding concepts, and upon finishing the class I felt that I had a great set of tools to continue learning and practicing on my own. The instructor was knowledgeable, experienced, and patient, and the community organizer was very eager to help introduce us to the tech community in our city. I also liked that this organization helps give back to the community through offering free kids coding classes. Perhaps the most valuable part will be the continued connection to the organization, as they are very good at keeping in touch with and engaging alumni.

i was in the full time code immersion corse in Phoenix and I had a great experience. I spent probably 40-50 hours a week doing work, but that was by choice. You definitely get out of the course what you put into it. The instructors did a great job of explaining why we were doing what we were doing, and I was able to end the course with 6 projects that I can showcase to potential employers.

This full-time immersion course has had a great impact on my life. Not only has it instilled the fundamentals for creating production ready apps, but it solidified my confidence that "I can do it." I previously had an engineering background, but was more focused on hardware. So software seemed somewhat daunting to learn. But after going through this course, I know how to build web apps (fullstack!). I also learned that I have a good eye for frontend, but also understand the main components of backend. My peers were awesome and inspiring as well. The teacher was great and always made sure everyone stayed in sync and followed along.
I would highly recommend this course. Be prepared to learn hands-on and get the tools to continue learning even after the program. This course is an critical step towards bright future in software development.

More Than Code

Tech Talent South (TTS) provides so much more than just,"Here's what code is, here's how to write it." The efforts that go into student acceptance selection and course delivery ensure you're sitting beside individuals that are just as excited about learning the content as you are. That thing you get really excited when talking about... ya, your fellow student probably does too and also found this new way you weren't aware of that opens up a completely new approach; and yes, they'd love to hang out after class on the couch or meet for coffee on a Saturday and "geek-out" about it with you. Once you factor in the community factors of TTS (Local Start-Up Tours, Networking Events, and TTS Community Team that want's to here and help you on your journey to success, however you define it); it's really a no-brainer that the lasting benefits and resources you'll get will be worth far beyond what you pay for a course.
Disclosure: I took the TTS Part-Time Code Immersion Course in order to familiarize myself with terminology, concepts, practices, and general knowledge to enable myself to better communicate with our technical team and better support their efforts, not to directly acquire a technical role, though many of my peers in the course were there directly for that purpose. I definitely got out of the course far more than I expected, I had no clue about all of the value I'd find in the community and peer networks. I would personally recommend Tech Talent South to anyone; not sure if a full course load is right for you? (I was concerned about my time commitments) Go for part-time or get your feet-wet with a weekend course! Once you get a hint of what the TTS course offerings are all about, you'll be signing up for your second or third course in no time.

Our cohort became a family. That is the best way that I can describe my experience with Tech Talent South's Startup Primer program. I think that the main reason why we were able to bond so well is because our class size was small, and we were able to get to know eachother and our businesses a lot better with the little time that we had. I loved how the teachers were so open to help and how much we were able to share and support eachother in and outside of the classroom. It was amazing to see our ideas from the first class grow into awesome pitches in front of many of Charlotte's startup industry leaders. If you are thinking about starting up a business, Startup Primer is a great place to start! :)

I attended the full-time code immersion course. Before I even attended the first class, the staff was there to help answer any questions or concerns I had. It’s been a long time since I’ve stepped foot into the classroom setting, so I was a little bit nervous about starting over. But the instructor and teacher’s assistant set up a great environment so you felt like you can slow the pace down at any moment. The course was very frustrating at times, but very rewarding once I figured out things through the trial and error process. If I still had problems, they had office hours to help go further in-depth of what I needed. A couple of times a week they would have speakers and/or tours set up to help start our networking process. I definitely would recommend anyone who is thinking about going into this field to look into joining the TTS community.

I attended the full time code immersion program at Tech Talent South. My instructor was exceptional and spoke in plain language for my non developer mind! Each class was intentional and organized with an extremely high level of professionalism. Beyond the course itself, I loved the community atmosphere that is created and upheld by the staff and alumni. I had so many opportunities to meet with potential employers as well as network with other new developers. To me, this type of community allows me to stay connected and make the most of my course! FIVE STARS!!

I wanted to take the time to relay my experience(s) with Tech Talent South. I found out about the Charlotte chapter of TTS through a friend and strongly disliked the current career path I was on so I decided to take the plunge. I ended up enrolling in the Full-Time code immersion class and I absolutely loved it. The class is set up in order for you to get your feet wet and to learn the basics in both front-end and back-end web development. Although I definitely got a lot out of the class, it was not easy. You have to have the mindset that you are going to dedicate yourself to learning all you can during the eight week program. As in life, the more you put into it, the more you will gain from it and you can really gain a lot. When you finish, you will have a solid foundation of knowledge of Ruby on Rails, HTML, CSS, and so much more.
Tech Talent South also offers a variety of other classes including the Big Data class. As our society continually evolves and our reliance on technology continues to increase, the need to analyze the data will be extremely important and the Big Data class introduces you to the fundamentals and ideas that will help start you on the path to learning more about data.
If you are looking to solidify a role in the tech community, then starting with Tech Talent South is the way to go. The instructors and the staff are great (especially in the Charlotte area) and I don't feel like you will regret the opportunity that you will create by joining the TTS community.

I had the pleasure of coming across Tech Talent South whenever I decided to make a career switch into web development. The classes were very interactive and provided a lot of resources. They offered a ton of volunteer opportunities like Kids Code Night and I personally had the opportunity to teach kids to code at Davidson College for a Tech Talent summer bootcamp! The CEO, Betsy, has felt more like a close friend and a mentor than any average CEO. Any issues i've had (which, lets be honest, it'd code- there are always issues) there were multiple resources and extensions that were available to me. Tech Talent has been such an amazing experience and I highly recommend taking courses!

Be prepared to be challenged! Overall this was a great 8 week program that pushed me to my limits mentally but I learned a lot in the process. You will cover a lot of information in an eight week period so I recommend preparing as much as you can beforehand. The teachers were great (I had two different teachers) although they each had their own unique teaching style. They were readily available through Slack too which was really helpful.

I started this class eager to learn. I am a self-taught, self-employed business owner with a background in MySQL databases. Until this class, I taught myself everything. With that being said I yearned for a classroom environment. I already have done my research about Ruby and Rails before joining the class. With my background in databases, I knew this was the right class for me. Then the journey started, the pain came and the dreams began. I’m glad I choose the part-time class. The pace was fast and learning was abundant. I strongly enjoyed the dig in and code approach our instructor Shane took. The class pushed me to learn faster than I would have done if I continued to take the teach myself approach. This forced me to really think. The turning point for me was our introduction to Rails. Because Rail's dealt with databases this was right up my alley. Then came the dreams. Since week 4 I don’t think I went to sleep without dreaming about how to troubleshoot, do something better or do something different in my code. Now all I want to do is CODE CODE CODE! I can confidently say that taking this class is going to change my future and help me build my brand. Thank You TTS!!!!

After my last contract ended I had some time to pursue an idea for a business I've always wanted to try. I began to attend several meetups across the city and speak to people I networked with in the Charlotte startup community. I quickly found that while the startup scene is now growing exponentially here, it is still in it's infancy and the scene was very difficult to navigate. I came across an ad for the TTS Startup Primer course and made the call. I was immediately impressed because the first person I spoke to was Zack who creates the curriculum- so he knew exactly how the course was going to be run and he answered all my questions. The TTS team on multiple occasions expressed to me that they were more interested in finding people who would be the right fit for the program and with one another than accepting the masses- which told me they were putting a lot of thought into the program to make it a great experience. Carly our mentor was really helpful in providing us with tools, directed thinking, and just good advice along the way. The classes were fun to attend as industry experts came in to speak to us about their individual subject matter (marketing, research, analytics, legal, VC, etc). As if this wasn't enough, at the close of the program, I needed help and Betsy the CEO met with me at a local coffee shop to offer advice and more importantly connections to people who could meet the need I had.
I could not be more impressed with the whole team at TTS and the startup primer program. My only constructive criticism is that I wanted some of the subjects to go longer because I was getting so much from them. I know the TTS team is planning to have a wrap up meeting with us individually to get our feedback- so the next class will be even better. Sign up for this program if you are looking to get an idea off the ground- especially if you are in a city like Charlotte where the startup scene is exploding but not yet organized in any useful way- this class will help in meeting your goals.

I've had an amazing experience in the part time Code Immersion course so far! We cover a ton of material, but Shane paces the class well so it never feels too overwhelming or confusing. The homework and class challenges are incredibly helpful and make me feel like I'm grasping the concepts. I had some exposure to programming before at college, but not to this extent. Shane also makes a point to give real life examples from his own professional work to teach us when or why you might use a specific method or approach. We have different partners every week which allows us to collaborate and learn from our peers, and also get to know everyone else in the class! Jackie and the rest of the TTS team are very welcoming and supportive, making sure I never feel out of place. I would definitely recommend this program to others.

I am amazed at how much I can do after taking Tech Talent South’s full-time Code Immersion class. I went from zero experience with Rails to deploying my first web application a month after finishing the class. The full-time class provided a comprehensive background on Ruby and Rails. We also touched on version control, JavaScript, APIs and deploying with Heroku enough to understand them conceptually and continue to learn about them on my own.
The staff at Tech Talent South are genuinely interested in your experience. They are accessible and engaged. Since the class ended they continue to offer assistance and answer questions.
This is a comprehensive, well organized class. You will get as much out of it as you put into it.

8-week full stack developer course.
The full-time immersion program accelerated my learning faster than could've happened learning on my own. I never realized how valuable the network would be! The course includes bonuses like guest speakers and tech company tours. It was assuring and inspiring to seeing TTS alum working full time at both new and established tech companies. Along the way I met great instructors and classmates. There were some students who didn't know what they were getting into--some got bitter but some got better! Your classmates will help you get where you want to be in your career if you connect and work with them. I've formed relationships with people that I believe will last my entire tech career. I've had a great experience! I applied for and received a partial scholarship at the start of the program, and I'm very grateful for that! I wish TTS much continued success in the future!

I’ve been working on making a career move to tech for the past couple of months and it was time to take it to the next level. I’ve been learning code using free online outlets, but although it was great, I wanted to know the “why’s” to fully understand the content. The first week in, you learn HTML & CSS and a bit of JavaScript and listen about ideas and processes from others you don’t even begin to understand, because it’s a bit overwhelming. And then, BOOM — in a matter of weeks, you’re standing where they are. It’s exhilarating, with the constant sensation that you barely grasp the material at hand as deeply as you should, that you couldn’t ever know all the concepts there are to know. That is the power of immersive learning at Tech Talent South. The instructors and the community organizer went out of their way to answer any questions, regarding job prospects, tech companies, meet ups or if you just want to grab coffee and talk about the mysterious topic of “life”.. they were just a Slack away! So if you’re thinking about joining Tech Talent South, go for it. It’s not easy, and you won’t become and expert, but it’s one hell of a start.

Winter 2016 Full Code Immersion.
Overall, I had a very positive experience with this course. I had done some online courses/tutorials prior to enrolling, but Tech Talent South provided a more in-depth look into the basics of Ruby, Rails, HTML, CSS, git, and Javascript. The real advantages of this course in my opinion are providing structure to the learning process, hands-on instruction (the chance to ask all those dumb questions you have to a person face to face), and the opportunity to get tapped into your local tech community. The instructors for my class were excellent and very open to answering questions, which can be a great resource if you take advantage of it. The course also does a nice job of introducing each concept, getting the students familiar with it, and then showing how they all work together (think Ruby, HTML, CSS, Rails, etc.). In terms of criticisms, I would say that I thought the course moved a bit slow at times. I felt like a bit more material could have been covered during the 8-week course, or that some topics could have been discussed more deeply, but I imagine this varies from city to city and teacher to teacher.
As you'll read in most of these reviews, to get the most out of this course you really do need to be fairly self-motivated. TTS did a great job of providing opportunities to not only learn the foundations of web development, but also to tour local tech companies and attend networking events, etc. However, it's very much on the student to make the most of these opportunities. Attendance and participation are NOT part of your grade (heads up - there are no grades), but they are critical to your success. If there is a company in your area that you're interested in learning more about, talk to your TTS Community Organizer about setting up a meeting. If there is a topic that isn't being covered in as much depth as you were hoping for, ask your instructor for guidance on learning more.
Long story, short - I enjoyed and benefited from TTS. I had good teachers and fun classmates. I wrote a lot of code outside of class, worked on my own projects, attended all the events and was able to secure a junior development position shortly after completing the course. If you're interested in the course and ready to put the work in, I'd say go for it.

I took the Fall Part-Time TTS course covering HTML, CSS, and Ruby on Rails (as well as a bit of Javascript).
I honestly didn't know what to expect going into the course, but it definitely blew me out of the water. Each class was about 3 hours, with a nice, short break in the middle; but even though the classes seemed like they would be long (I mean you're coding for 3 hours..?), they turned out to be the perfect length. The time always flew by crazy fast as everyone got sucked into their code. The instructor, Zapata, was awesome; he was always cracking jokes, had plenty of memes, was more than willing to help with any questions or problems, and was super kind and knowledgeable.
The team at TTS is a really great group of people. I've taken plenty of different courses - online and in-person - and in most cases the instructors or creators are just concerned with getting you to buy the course or getting you through; they're not that concerned with making sure you understand the material or helping you apply it afterwards. I found the team at TTS to be quite different; they were always there if you needed them, happy to help get you connected with different individuals, and help you in whatever your career aspirations are.
I definitely recommend the course and Tech Talent South! I'm sure I'll be a life-long student of theirs and take some of there other courses :)

I feel as though I paid thousands of dollars for a fairly helpful slideshow and some links. Our instructor told us from the beginning this was their first time teaching but we were all shocked to learn that they had only just completed the most recent TTS bootcamp a few months earlier. Their answer to almost every question was either "Google it," "It's in the documentation," or simply "I've never had that problem, I don't know." The instructor was OBVIOUSLY struggling with teaching as much as we were with learning. I am pleased to know that they will no longer be teaching the bootcamp. The classroom was very cramped and always freezing or roasting; there was no comfortable in-between. The after-class "lab time" was nothing more than a glorified study hall. The instructor regularly encouraged us to leave before lab hours concluded so they could leave, too. I would not recommend this course to others and, in fact, would actively discourage others from attending.

In my experience, the founders of Tech Talent South have created an excellent team of people and fostered a quality learning environment inclusive of anyone who wants to learn and grow their code skills. I gained so much by taking this class, I have no regrets about spending my money on it, and I feel as successful as a junior developer could possibly feel. My biggest nitpick is the fact that my full-time class met at 8 am. I am night person, so that wasn't the easiest on me, but it was worth it.

Great and In-Depth Part Time Code Immersion Class

The Part-Time class runs 8 weeks and holds class on Monday and Wednesday from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Office hours directly precede class and begin at 5:00pm. You spend most of your time on Ruby on Rails, HTML and CSS. The instructors walk you through programming from the ground up, starting with terminology and logic, then working your way up to more difficult problems. We learned a lot about model associations, Ruby Gems, domain modeling, bootstrap, and materialize. Lastly, we learned a bit of JavaScript, databases, and Github. We combined all of this into a project at the end of class that we can continue to work on and ask our instructors for help even though class has ended.
I really liked the way the instructors taught the class and made themselves very available outside of class. The material was difficult and daunting, especially when you are doing a part-time class and have less time to absorb the material. Going into it, I was a bit concerned about doing part-time and wished I had the time to do full-time. After finishing the course, though, I can confidently say I am in a good place with my understanding of all the above applications and methods. The Part-Time Code Immersion class gave me a great foundation to continue to build my knowledge. Another great thing about this class is that it isn't just a class; it's a community. Upon graduating, you have access to your classroom portal and all your slides. The instructos and Community Manager encourage you to continue posting questions and problems to Slack (our mode of communication) and they will help out. As someone new to programming, this kind of support is incredibly valuable and I am looking forward to staying in touch with everyone at Tech Talent South.

I really enjoyed the time i spent in TTS. I wish Emily had joined earlier, so we could have had more action with the speakers from different companies. The curriculum could have been better; instead of jumping around, it would have been nice if it was straight forward. Everyone realised that after the interview with CrateBinds. I think a little longer time might help more.

TTS has been a wonderful experience, through and through. Our class had a very diverse group of students– graphic designers, AT&T technicians, opera grant writers, dancers, stay-at-home parents, hardware folks and more, just for a general sample. We were all at different places in our life and different levels of stability. The common thread was that we all were looking for a change in our lives, and TTS was our springboard. Coding may have seemed daunting going in, but TTS really made it all doable and provided us with the resources and tools to grow our knowledge going forward.
The CURRICULUM covered a lot of ground for the eight weeks we had, but our instructors were extremely dedicated and the spirit of the class extremely civic-minded. Heaviest focus was Ruby on Rails, followed by HTML & CSS, with Javascript as an intense but graspable two-day topic. We also touched on SQL and Sass in one day each, covering both thoroughly enough that most of the class could use them fluidly going forward. Something really special about our class was our commitment to learning the material. The class gave us the tools we needed, for sure, but taking the homework seriously is what really solidified those skills. The homework was consistently fun and challenging, and always offered lots of opportunities to expand beyond the course material and build something really special (for students who wanted to do so).
We were really lucky with our INSTRUCTORS (Lee and Mariel). First off, they really set the bar high by investing in the course and in our individual success. Both of them met with students outside of class on multiple occasions, and they were available at the craziest hours through the Slack messaging system we used. In addition to their personal care, they really complemented each other as teachers. Their styles of teaching were really different (Lee’s being very minute and devil-in-the-details, Mariel’s offering a bigger picture view of things). Their particular skill sets were different (Lee excelled at back-end while Mariel was untouchable in terms of front-end code). They really balanced each other brilliantly and worked hard to make their vast base of knowledge available to their students. And that didn’t stop when class ended–they continue to support us going forward and that’s amazing.
Bringing me to the biggest magic of TTS: the COMMUNITY! It sounded cheesy and it still sounds cheesy, but TTS really is like family. It’s a really positive environment focused on forging mutual admiration within its own ranks, on connecting to and making a difference in the tech community at large, and uplifting anyone it can. It’s contagious and incredibly valuable. My classmates and I have continued to keep up with each other, and we push each other to go to meet ups and get ourselves out there. Andrew, our brilliant Community Organizer in Charlotte, continues to keep us in the loop about events in the community and jobs that we as individuals might be good fits for. The community is a major piece of the value that you get with TTS.
TL;DR: I LOVED the program and I’m pretty sure it turned my whole life around. The road is wide and full of hope, and after TTS I feel ready for it. If you’re on the fence, don’t be. Just sign up and brace for awesome.

Good value for a crash course, with social accountability

TTS Raleigh was a positive experience. I did the part-time immersion class for website building. I had been interested in learning HTML / CSS for the past year or so, and it gave me the push I needed to get motivated and start building my own website.
Our instructor was very knowledgable on the course material, and he was friendly and eager to help us / answer our questions. When the class ended, we got digital copies of all the material and class exercises, which I know I will reviewing in coming weeks. He was also willing to meet with us for homework hour every Sunday, which I thought was really nice.
One consideration for future iterations might be to move from 3 hours / week for 8 weeks to 2 hours / week for 12 weeks. The part time class is designed for working students, which is awesome, but it's so much material and 3 hours is really long to add to a full work day.
We also met out of a local co-working space, which for the most part was cool.. but sometimes the main projector screen was hard to see because of how the room was set up.
Overall, I would recommend TTS to anyone who is interested, and motivated, to learn HTML / CSS. I don't think I could have made a career jump based on the class alone... but maybe after a few more months of reviewing / learning on my own, I might be able to. It laid a good foundation though.
And, females and minorities get a partial scholarship, which I really appreciated.

TTS May be an Adequate Choice if you are Unemployed

TTS is expensive. They tell you that you will be able to change your career, but I am in so much debt from TTS obscene prices I ironically have no time to practice my coding. Although TTS is supposed to be for adults, only one other student in the class was working. If you work I recommend community college rather than TTS. it will be cheaper, and community colleges understand that adults pay for their own things. Erin the project manager often made rude and demeaning jokes to other students in the class. I forgot everything I learned, felt like a moron in class, and the final project was laughable. Nobody knew what they were doing except a retired Web developer, and surprise surprise, his wife was footing the bill so he could do the hours of homework. I learned nothing, owe them a ton of money, and felt disillusioned by the lack of collaboration on their messaging program slack. I felt completely left out. Maybe when I pay my 6000 off I can get a book and teach ruby on rails to myself. For now I had to take an additional job. If your parents or spouse are paying, it couldn't hurt. If you want a career change, teaching these things to yourself getting certified and freelancing is the way to go. I'm sure tts will find a way to not publish this. But if it does, google tts reviews and check out the rip off report -

Tech Talent South Helped Me to Achieve My Goals

Prior to joining the Full Time Code Immersion program offered by Tech Talent South, I had spent several months learning about WordPress, HTML and CSS and had been training myself using tools like Treehouse classes online, attending local Meetups and was just trying to self teach myself the things I needed to know to land an internship or entry level job. I really enjoyed the course overall and thought it was really helpful towards the goals I had. I'm no master at Ruby or PHP to be sure, but it did help me to understand Object Oriented Languages better as a whole and gave me a lot of knowledge that it would have taken me months and months to learn on my own! It was also nice to do projects in class that I could then add to my portfolio. The nice thing about the program is that you're in a classroom setting so if you have questions you have the sounding board of the instructor and your classmates, and if the instructor in your class can't answer the question - you have the backing of the whole TTS staff - so someone will be able to get your question resolved pretty quickly. Personally, I found the classroom setting super helpful. One of my favorite parts of attending Tech Talent South were the networking opportunities set up by our community coordinator. During one of the networking opportunities during my course, I met staff members/owners of a local web shop who are doing exactly what I want to do. At the time, they weren't taking on any new staff/interns, but after several months, they sent out feelers looking to hire someone new, and I was able to reconnect with them and land the job! -

Good Program

I enjoyed the part time Code Immersion program. The instructors were good and did a good job of presenting the material. They had opportunities for networking and provided information on potential employment opportunities. We didn't get as far in the material as I would have hoped. Before taking the class, 8 weeks seemed like a good amount of class time. However, after attending the program, I wish it had been a little longer. A longer program would have assisted in better retention of information. I did get a solid foundation of coding of which I can build upon.

TTS Rocks!

Tech Talent South does a great job of creating community and support not just during the course but also after! I loved that every student's technical experience was different and their journey unique. I took the course so that I could build some of my own projects and go in a completely differnt direction with my career. I enjoyed the content that we learned and the continous support they give! The instructor even took extra time to make sure that I was caught up when I had to miss class. TTS creates a great framework and what you put in is what you get out!

Intense but worth it!

While I was looking for a new career path, I also needed something challenging. Tech Talent South gave me exactly what I was looking for and more. The Code Immersion Course gives an overview of different code languages (Ruby, Rails, HTML, CSS, JavaScript..etc), daily homework, class projects, and great instructor interaction.
If at any time I needed assistance (which was everyday) all the instructors were very helpful. It was said the first day that they want to see you succeed and it's true. Their commitment to our learning/success made me want to dig deeper.
No one promises anything from taking this course, but with hardwork and dedication anything is possible. Attending the workshops, and tours gives you invaluable information and exposes one to different work options.
If I had to do this again I would! Nothing worth having is easily obtained. Going from no code exposure prior to this course to being fully stacked in 8 weeks is a testament to TTS. If you're thinking about it, go for it!

More than just a coding bootcamp

In 8 weeks I went from knowing basic HTML and CSS to learning Ruby on Rails, which is one of the hottest languages right now. I went in with 0 expectations, with an open mind, knowing that I had to put in work in order to make it happen. Regardless of the bootcamp of how long it is, you will have to put in work! Our instructor was great and very accessible, even after class hours. The community organizer scheduled some great company tours and guest speakers, but before she did anything she always asked US what we wanted. Our class was divided between front-end and back-end developers so she made sure to schedule things for both groups.
I loved how Richard Simms, the co-founder, always hung out with us in class and went to lunch with us regularly. TTS really feels like a welcoming family and the coworking space we were in was pretty awesome as well. The curriculum is fast-paced, but very well designed. You will learn a lot as long as you feel passionate about it and do your homework. They connect you with amazing individuals and make sure you attend as many meetup groups and events as possible. Believe me, you will enjoy yourself!

Helped me to focus on learning the important things

Learning to code can be challenging. Not only are there a ton of languages, but its tough to wade through all the noise in order to find the skills that you need to know whether you want to make a career change or start your own software company. I started learning to code prior to attending the 8 week full-time program, but TTS helped me to focus on the critical components that I needed to learn in order to switch careers and start my own company. Furthermore, the staff has been awesome about encouraging students to get involved in the Atlanta tech scene outside of class. I encourage you to check TTS out!

Great program for a career change

In eight weeks, I went from completely new to the mere idea of web development to a full-stack developer equipped with all the resources I need to succeed in a new field. As someone coming to tech from a completely different industry, I knew I wanted a change, but wasn't sure how successful I'd be. The great crew at the Atlanta campus takes you through everything you need to know step-by-step, from HTML & CSS to Ruby and Rails to practical skills like developing on a team and learning git workflow. Aside from the great curriculum, the TTS team goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and make any necessary connections or open any doors to set you on the right path. A coding bootcamp isn't the easiest path to take, sure, but effort and drive combined with Tech Talent South's great resources are a recipe for success.
