San Diego State University (SDSU) offers two, virtual digital skills bootcamps: Cybersecurity and Digital Marketing. San Diego State University Global Campus Digital Skills Bootcamps are designed for working professionals with evening and weekend course schedules available. San Diego State University Global Campus bootcamps are designed for those with no experience in the field. There are no prerequisites required to enroll in either bootcamp.  

San Diego State University Global Campus Cybersecurity bootcamp consists of a 30-hour introductory course and a 370-hour extended program. The cybersecurity bootcamp covers Microsoft security, computer networking, cloud security, Linux security, network security, and cyber infrastructure and technology. Students learn Python for security, offensive security (ethical hacking), incident response, threat hunting, and game theory strategy in cybersecurity. 

San Diego State University Global Campus Digital Marketing bootcamp consists of a 20-hour introductory course and a 380-hour extended program. The Digital Marketing bootcamp curriculum covers SEO, SEM, data visualization and analytics, HTML + CSS3, e-commerce, and social media marketing. Students will learn UI/UX, email marketing and automation, website development, content writing, Facebook advertising, and Google advertising. Digital Marketing bootcamp students will complete a professional e-portfolio of their work to share with potential employers.  

Students receive career services support, including professional networking, interview training, internship placement assistance, and one-on-one consultations devoted to perfecting LinkedIn profiles and resumes.

      Personally speaking, this course was a complete waste of time and money. $15,000.00 Stolen by SDSU and HackerU/ThriveDX. 

      Instructors were not properly prepared to teach the course, and in some cases were not even familiar with the curriculum for the course they were teaching. In one course one of the instructors made what I consider sexist and even derogatory ethnic remarks. Another instructor appeared to be falling asleep during the Zoom class. 

      The marketing material for this program. Is very misleading. The course is full of useless outdated material. Once you are in the program the rules regarding refunds are very strict and not in the students favor. This is a warning to be very aware of what your are getting into. Take your time to vet the program thoroughly. Make sure this program is for you. This is a very basic beginners course with a lot of outdated information. 

      Taking Google, Microsoft, Canva and Hubspot certification courses at your own pace could be a better use of your time and provide more up to date information. In many cases these courses and the certifications are free. 

      I would absolutely suggest to anyone that asks me about this course. Do your due diligence. Research other courses/options and think twice before giving HackerU or ThriveDX any of your money. I would not recommend this course to anyone.

      If you are already a marketing professional, this bootcamp is not for you. This is a general overview of the topics that are taught without a full deep dive in. Especially for SEM. There are no ways to practice hands on tutorials so you can not practice these “taught skills.” 

      Some of these courses are only a day or 2 class meet ups long?! Not enough time to learn anything. Or over 75 hours long and you can not practice ANYTHING! Save your money and invest in an actual masters degree or take the free courses in HubSpot, LinkedIn and google. The certifications stated that you earn in the course are from those three outside sources to do outside of class time.
