Incredible Coding Boot Camp

Coming into Coding Dojo's boot camp, I only knew HTML, CSS, and a little bit of JavaScript. I now can confidently say that I have accomplished learning three full stacks during the 14 weeks I attended the boot camp. The instructors were wonderful, the curriculum allowed us to learn the basics and also challenge us to research additional learning on our own, and the option to have a career services manager drastically helped in my confidence in finding a job afterwards. -

The Coding Dojo is one of the most immersive and fun learning experiences I have taken. If you are looking for a career change or simply looking to learn, this course is perfect for you. You will be taught not only the fundamentals of multiple languages but you'll also be taught how to learn and teach yourself some stuff along the way. Being able to teach yourself some things is a great way to feel super accomplished when you get a task completed. Enjoy yourself, never give up and remember nothing is easy. -

There are so many other learn-by-doing coding programs with better curriculums and at much lower costs. Unfortunately, this course did not live up to expectations for me. After starting at Coding Dojo I found there were gaps in instructional design and needed to supplement my learning with other programs such as Dataquest and Udacity which meant spending more money. These other programs were able to provide “the why” and “when” for writing the code. Coding Dojo used the same curriculum that they use for classroom instruction for online instruction. Most of the teachers and TAs were recent grads and if you had a question they encouraged you to read through everyone else’s posts first which was slightly different, especially when referencing local links. For the money, I expected more. When I spoke to admin they just wanted me to restart the course for an extra $500. I was putting in 20 hours/week on other platforms to learn the material and then having to do their assignments and just fell behind, so discouraging. Skip this course.Saige of Coding Dojo

Thank you for sharing your feedback, our instructors are happy to work with you 1:1 to overcome any struggles you’re experiencing. Someone on our team will be reaching out to you shortly and please always feel free to come to your instructors if you’re hitting obstacles. Our program is designed to instill self sufficiency, an extremely valuable trait in the development world, so there definitely are sections that will challenge you or cause you to run into mistakes and then overcome them.
Sometimes, blazing your own trail and neural pathways may feel scary and sometimes, it may make you feel vulnerable. But rest assured, we will never let you fall! We want to empower you to become the best learner you can be and prepare you for an exciting new career in tech. -

Hi Wajih, we are very sorry to hear about your negative experience. We never are shy about the difficulty or quick pace of our program, but it is indeed designed for beginners or anyone interested in getting started in tech. The vast majority of our students do graduate and go on to great careers in tech, but the program is not for everyone. We did allow you to retake the Web Fundamentals stack, and eventually honored your request to withdraw from the program. -

The Coding Dojo experience was exceptional! I had no prior experience with coding prior to entering the full-time online bootcamp, which wasn't a problem given their well thought out curriculum and course roadmap. All the instructors I had were outstanding. They truly want each student to feel comfortable/confident with the information being taught. They will spend any extra time needed to help you better understand the material, on top of the instructors being available to you beyond the lecture time you have access to TA's that are AMAZING and always willing to give a helping hand. The program is very fast past and will require lots of dedication on your end to succeed and have it be worth attending. With all that said, I would highly recommend Coding Dojo to anyone who is looking to learn or even improve their technical understanding and abilities. I was extremely impressed with everything offered, from resources to curriculum to people, everything is top-notch, and I'm confident you will be as well. -

Difficult but Amazing course
Awesome program with a great staff to help you to the end.
Pros:
A lot of interaction with instructors and ta's.
Well structured course to teach from fundamentals to putting everything together.
Focus a lot working with cohort mates to figure out problems.
Cons:
A few concepts might be confusing so will have to reach out or look up other explanations -

I recently graduated from Coding Dojo’s Full Time online course late November. I come from a tech background but came into this boot camp with little coding experience, just some basic java knowledge.
Going into the bootcamp I was intimidated by the amount of assignments and new information that was given to us. Luckily for the students, Coding Dojo’s instructors and TA’s are amazing! Whenever I was lost and did not understand a concept, the instructor and TAs are more than happy to help you understand the concept. Everyone there is there to help you succeed, even most students will lend a hand when you need it!
I enjoyed my stay at the Dojo and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning how to code -

I work full time but would like to break into software development. I did the part-time online program and Coding Dojo was the right choice for me. I came into the Coding Dojo with a little bit of experience with Javascript/HTML, but wasn't able to really do a lot with my knowledge. Coding Dojo was logical, sequential, and practical. I am now able to do the projects that I wanted to do and I understand how to work with the full stack. The staff are great and their program is pretty comprehensive. It takes a lot of time but if you have the drive and devotion you will do well. -

This experience was one of the hardest things I've done. After spending 15+ years as a Directional Driller in Oil&Gas, I had to start a new career mid-life. I didn't really know what I developing/coding was all about but thought that tech is like a root system- it has branches into every industry. I was handy with a computer prior, but this is next level. Once I commited in my head I started some free lessons online trying to prepare. I think I had maybe 2 weeks of learning some HTML/CSS prior to the pre-bootcamp material.
I enrolled for the online-Fulltime even though I live in Dallas area. Not sure if online or in-person is better/worse but the online worked for me. I couldn't imagine spending the amount of time in-person. I typically spent70-90 hrs/wk engaged between class and assignment material. When it came time for the Belt Exams, I did not take weekends off. Often times I felt I had to leap frog some assignments just to keep up. And then I could apply some of those lessons to the assignments I skipped over.
I took Python, MERN, and Java. Each of the instructors for these stacks were very knowledgable and eager to teach. Didn't matter the silliest or dumbest question! All taught the how AND why. I cannot say enough good things about the instructors.
As far as material, I don't have much to compare but I'll do my best to analyze. Plenty of material. Plenty. It felt as though I should have a little bit of coding understanding prior to bootcamp. Remember, I'm a newbie. The Dojo likes to teach through example not direct. This made it a real challenge for me/my learning style. I learn best by hands on and repetition. Each day was sectioned off to a couple lectures and much "lab" time. The lectures covered the topics that were supposed to be used in assignments. Because of the volume and pace, I felt I didn't have time to absord a concept before moving on. So I did feel lost many times. But that is where cohorts come in. I'm a people person. The first day of class on Zoom we all kind of starting introducing ourselves in chat and stating where we were from. I wrote down names and the cities of cohorts that lived nearby. I wanted to be connected to those folks and that is how i approached Coding Dojo. I made great contacts who were same time zone and close and that stayed up working on assignements together. I honestly feel that without the friends I made during the bootcamp, I may have not passed. We would bounce concepts and understanding of material off each other and help each other out on assignments. We encouraged and motivated each other.
All in all, looking back would I choose it to do over? Simply put, yes. What an experience. What a challenge. -

On top of the mundane instructors (previous graduates), dry zoom calls where there is no interaction, and there constant lack of structure coding dojo is the worst experience. Demanding you putting 70+ hours a week and their phrase “your classmates are your best resources” just goes to show they dont know how to teach or help their students. You should save your 12,000 and go buy some udemy courses and some discipline and you will excel much farther. Also the positive reviews are fake because they offer gift cards and extended access to there platform. I would never recommend it to a friend and I hope this review is seen.Luke Lappala of Coding Dojo

An intense program in which they really teach you to program in three different languages in 14 weeks, with first-rate teachers. What I learned the most was to get out of my comfort zone and to think outside the box. I learned to learn and to be always curious to know more. Despite being an online program, the level of demand is incredible and the teachers are always available to answer questions and help you. -

Great Bootcamp
Pros - The instructors are well prepared and knowledgeable. Curriculums are designed for students get their hands on and actually code. Algorithms they do every morning helps prepare students for technical interviews.
Cons - Due to pandemic the classes are held 100% online. Online class itself has its pros and cons but onsite would have been better for me personally. -

I loved Coding Dojo's graded, balanced approach to learning: do Black Belt challenges if you can, work on basics if you're not there yet. I felt like there was always room to grow but plenty of support. Instructors were mature and good natured, and didn't micromanage us. The approach was: learn some principles in lecture, then go code and collaborate. I started as a complete beginner but built three full stack application projects by the end of the bootcamp (in Python, MERN, and C#). Instructions are clear, instructors are fair, and you're in a position to learn as much as you can handle--whether you're a newbie or someone with industry experience. -

I graduated from the 16-week Bootcamp full-time course. Where I walked with almost ZERO knowledge in coding and web design. I ended up building apps and having a complete understanding on how to do so. The best part of this learning experience I would defiantly say is the support you receive in every aspect of the courses. From signing up to the assignments in hand to after class or before class help. The instructors really put that extra effort to make sure you understand what you are learning. Of course, you have to put in the time to get results and understandings on the material but when it comes down to it the amount you learn is very impressive! -

The instructors at coding dojo have all been phenomenal and are very helpful and knowledgeable. I enjoyed interacting with classmates on assignments and helping each other to develop. Even though we had to switch the course to online, fortunately the teachers were great at always being accessible to help out. The course can be fast paced but it was an enjoyable time and the environment was great for developing team work and learning essential skills. -

I investigated four Bay Area programs and Coding Dojo's approach and curriculum was the most impressive. Being home due to COVID-19, I decided that it was time to take the plunge and commit to this learning. I chose the 16-week part-time program, which was still quite intensive. The online learning platform is very well organized, with my favorite parts being the instructional videos that accompany much of the curriculum and assignment solutions. Other pluses are the twice weekly live online lectures, optional Saturday algorithm sessions, and Mattermost communication platform (like Slack). I was a teacher and instructional technology specialist for many years and looking for a career change. We learn so much in a short period of time that it's quite amazing, but you REALLY need to be prepared to put in the time and commitment to learn the material, do the assignments and ask lots of questions. They advertise 25 hours per week commitment. It was more like 35-40 hours a week for me, but it was totally worth it. They also have a number of scholarships you can apply for. I received one for "Reinventing Your Career." -

I have recently graduated from Coding Dojo and it is the best programming course that I have attended. The platform was really well thought out and easy to use. Lectures and instructors were a great help, it was a recap that made learning the concepts easier and a preparation for weekly assignments. What I liked most is the structure of the course, which is based on "Learning by doing". Assignments helped us develop problem solving and searching skills, which I believe are the core traits that a developer should have. I totally recommend it. -

I had a really great experience at Coding Dojo. I started teaching myself to code a few months prior to signing up for this bootcamp, and was really struggling to get the fundamentals down. I wanted to progress at a faster pace, so when Covid hit I figured that I could easily dedicate 20+hours of my week to learning in this program, while still working remotely at my job. I am so happy that I made that choice. The curriculum is structured in a way that provides the foundations for you to grasp essential concepts and yet challenges you to seek out more information, thereby encouraging you to continue learning on your own, and teaching you HOW to learn code, which is arguably the most important thing I learned in this program. My classmates were phenomenal, and it was great to get real experience working with other developers on projects, learning fit and how to collaborate. Instructors were great, and there are tons of video resources available so that you can watch different teachers teach the same material in different ways if you aren’t quite getting something the first time around. The course material provides tons of opportunities to exercise what you’re learning and really have it sink in to your brain. TAs are incredibly helpful and never just give you the answer, but lead you to discover it on your own. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to learn a TON very quickly. It was absolutely worth the money! -

I would honestly recommend the Coding Dojo Academy for everyone who is looking forward to becoming a full stack developer in a short-time period and still don't know where to start!
I recently graduated and I could say that those 4 months were mine, it was one of the best learning experiences of my life.
The things that I mostly liked about the academy were the way they organised the materials, assignments and exams as well.
Even if someone failed the exam, it had the chance to retake it and get help from instructors to get better.
The positivity and support the instructors gave us by always being there when we needed extra lessons or explanations made us feel joyful.
Another good thing is that we have access to the platform 6 months after graduation so we can take all the courses that we couldn't take before and do all the optional assignments which have those details that help you improve a lot.
Don't miss out on something that could be amazing just because it could also be difficult! :)

I have thoroughly enjoyed my Coding Dojo experience!
Claire is a phenomenal instructor who would always take time to answer my questions and did a great job teaching the course.
My goal of learning was to learn multiple languages and get project exposure so I am very satisfied with what I got out of it!
The TAs were excellent and got an enormous amount of help from my classmates.
Just one thing that can be improved is that there should be a lecture where we learn how to apply AJAX to CRUD commands.
AJAX was something I struggled with and had to get help from classmates/TAs and google searching to understand how to use AJAX code for deleting, editing, or adding information to my project.
It wasn't until finishing the group project that I truly understood AJAX.
So I just recommend that they do a lecture on applying AJAX to basic CRUD commands.
Other than that, I am satisfied and highly recommend Coding Dojo for anyone who has no coding experience and wishes to get into coding!

I attended this boot camp from August 2019 to November 2019 and had a great experience. The instructors are all extremely knowledgeable and are very willing to hep you. Know that this is a difficult process that will challenge you to be diligent and work hard, but it is very worth it once you make it through and get to the other side. It is always hard to pull the trigger when deciding to get more education-- the investment, no, spending the money, yes. I was worried that I was going to take the class and fall into the trap of just being another number to the program. I didn't feel that way at all with Coding Dojo. Coding can be very intimidating if you are starting from scratch like I did, and it was hard at times, but the instructors always helped me find and answer quickly. Also, there is no peer pressuring, which I loved. It's not about you cramming for an exam just to pass and never use again. They want you to learn it your way so it resonates. I have not landed a job yet, but the career services are very advantageous about guiding you in the right direction. Though, it is ultimately up to the student to put the work in. Good luck! -

After hearing mixed reviews from previous graduates and trying to figure out which bootcamp to join I decided to enroll in the Coding Dojo Online bootcamp due to their emphasis on practicing algorithms. I learned a lot even after having some experience on front end languages with my previous jobs but this isn't a school where they spoon feed you the information. You really have to dig into the curriculum and learn it on your own. The instructors will basically 'instruct' you on how to do the overall tasks for the week and then it's on you to dive into the assignments and learn and apply it. The good: - Plenty of detailed chapters and assignments that guide you on the way to understand how these languages are connected. - Emphasis on algorithms and how to think logically. - Most of the instructors are available to help and explain concepts that don't quite stick at first and will be willing to go over the areas you are struggling in. Just schedule time with them and explain where the dots don’t connect. A human experience. Where improvements are crucial: - The bootcamp needs to hire more TAs for online support at night on top of needs more hours of availability. - Have more assignments graded by either the TAs or Instructors or hire graduates as 'graders' in preparation for the exams with feedback on what to focus on and where you need to improve. Having even five assignments graded per stack/section would be a good indicator on where more emphasis needs to be made when learning. - Overuse of curveballs to throw students off. Curveballs are good on occasion for an extra challenge but one really needs to feel comfortable learning and not feel like the whole curriculum is out there to throw you off when learning it. I retook backend portion a couple of times to really understand it rather than rushing through it and getting a certification without having a solid understanding of the subject matter. I'm a slow learner but once I got it I know it seamlessly. And the instructors were very helpful being patient with that learning curve. My overall experience was a gratifying one but the some of the instructors and some higher ups at the beginning of the course were definitely greedy apples in the bunch that were out there to throw students off and take your small fortune you forked over. However there seems to have been a readjustment that took place midway during my tenure and the people brought in/promoted have been really helpful in wanting you to succeed. I feel that Coding Dojo hit a few bumps that took a hit on their reputation but made the necessary adjustments to recoup their reputation and now looking back on it I feel like they’re on the right track again putting students first rather than profits. -

Took the course and, once I completed the course, I learned employers want work experience. Could not land a job after Coding Dojo program, even with their career services helping.
Found a program through my university that offered to teach computer programming and provide real world work experience through internships opportunities. All taught by actual professors who have actually worked in the tech industry.
Coding dojo staff was nice but had very little background in tech. They were all newbies like me. Only one of the instructors had worked in the industry as a coder. The others were recent graduates of Coding dojo.
I suggest you find another bootcamp, always good to check with accredited universities, that can offer work experience while you learn to code and has teachers with work experience.Luke Lappala of Coding Dojo

I spent 15 weeks learning web fundamentals and Python online and part-time. I am so happy with the results of my experience with Coding Dojo's online program. Compared to many similar organizations they provide focused, full-time instructors not just part-time "experts". My instructors were experienced, qualified developers that are helping students understand the concepts, best practices, and reality of coding full-time. I had access nights and weekends to a TA and the instructors to discuss my questions. It made all the difference. -

I love the Dojo and miss it.
A bit over a year ago I decided I wanted to make a career to become a programmer.
In my journey of looking for a program, I went to a few open houses and pre-bootcamp introduction in different schools.
I then looked up Coding Dojo, this school was; in my budget, not too far and had free parking (important when you plan to spend hours there), open from morning till evening and Saturdays.
When I went to their open the atmosphere was so welcoming. I loved it right away.
I was happy to find such a relaxing environment since I was going to start learning something completely different in a different language. I was in the medical field and my first language is french. At that time my english was still basic.
I then joined the full stack development program.
My teacher were amazing; very understanding and helpful and so were the students.
Coding dojo is such a judgment free and supporting environment.
Although the curriculum was intense and not easy I enjoyed every minutes I spent learning.
To keep your from burning out, the instructors would offer 1h to go do sport in a park near by.
A couple of time they even managed to bring a yoga teacher to do stretching and breathing exercises personalized for us.
The dojo is so inviting also by the layouts,
- there is a big kitchen with a fridge for you to bring your lunch or to get some of the snacks they have for us (free) such as fruits, cereals and all type of snacks,
- a couples couches to rest or take a nap when needed,
- a room with a lot of windows and a ping-pong table - great place to take a break, make some friends and get some light - eventually get better at ping-pong.
- there is an area dedicated to alumni - where we can come to work on our projects, and job search.
- a couples other rooms to do lectures or for our use as well.
- Pizza Friday - when there was an open house
- bathrooms - of course
Workspace:
- Computer screen - if available you can use as many as you want
The layout is great so you can be around other students - mostly the group you are in.
Job Search:
The dojo is also composed to a counseling office where a career adviser is here to help you with getting ready to look for a job.
What I liked a lot is that the instructors manage the curriculum where we get to team up and learn one of the stack with another group.
I am beyond grateful I got the chance to learn at the dojo. It was such a great experience and I am still in contact with some of the instructors and definitely made friends. I am still involved with the dojo and will answer the bel anytime to help out.
If you are looking to invest yourself into becoming a developer, and enjoy the process,
THIS IS YOUR SPOT.
Go tho the open house and you'll se by yourself.
Enjoy!

Coding Dojo was definitely the best experience of my life so far! I am forever grateful I was given this opportunity. It helped me connect everything together, which I struggled with before. The instructors and TAs were always ready to help, the lectures were quite informative and the learning materials and the assignments helped put all the pieces together perfectly.
