CodeCrew is a six-month bootcamp based in Memphis, Tennessee that trains beginners to be entry-level software developers. Throughout the six-month bootcamp, students work in a small classroom setting and use real-word technologies to learn the fundamentals of coding, app development, leadership, and life skills needed for a successful career in tech. The curriculum covers Python, Java, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Ajax, JSON, SQL, and databases.
Applicants should be Memphis area residents with at least a high school diploma (or GED). Applicants can also be be nominated by a teaching, community, or non-relative professional. Expect a two-part interview and to complete intro materials before starting class. Once accepted, expect to show up every weekday and work alongside 25 other students for 40 hours per week.
CodeCrew offers an income sharing agreement, which means that there are no upfront costs. Graduates pay a small percentage of their salary for three years after graduation only if their salary exceeds $35,000 annually. CodeCrew Code School is operated by a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization.
Code Crew CodeSchool provided me with a quality introduction to development in only 6 months! I came from a non-technical background. I had no previous experience with coding but I did have the drive to learn and succeed and that is truly all you need for this program. The class size was ideal! Two instructors, and occasionally teaching assistants, were able to teach and reinforce multiple concepts a day with the bonus of review sessions before and after class. Two instructors, and occasionally teaching assistants, were able to teach and reinforce multiple concepts a day with the bonus of review sessions before and after class. The technical skills and technologies that I learned in the CodeSchool directly contributed to me landing a development internship within months of graduation! The CodeSchool also provided extensive soft skills training and career prep that made me feel more confident with each interview and networking event that I attended. This is still a new program ( I am a graduate of the second cohort) and I see a lot of growth as this already impressive program gains traction in the Memphis tech community!
So CodeCrew Code School is an intense 6 month coding bootcamp geared towards transitioning adults into computer programming. Unlike some or even most bootcamps, CodeCrew Code School will start everybody from the ground up. What that means is if you don't have any prior knowledge of computer programming whatsoever then it is ok. The instructors there have been in the industry for several years, so you also get real world advice and knowledge of what to expect. They start from the very begin...
They start from the very beginning for everyone. From there they teach basic priniciples and concepts that are commonly found across most programming languages. I greatly appreciate this because it helps you realize that no matter what language you study in, these concepts are still used at any point in your career. You could switch to a different language and you will still be able to recognize what is going on within the program you are desiginning. Aside from basic concepts, you learn 6 different languages and frameworks to give you that fullstack experience. They couple it with real world projects and you will even find yourself going to events outside of normal scheduled classes where you will get the chance to implement these skills and get your feet wet. I believe that is one of the biggest advantages about being in this program; the chance for you to see, first hand, what you will be getting into. And if you are worried about finding that right job, no need to. They also have soft skills injected into the program to guide you on the right path in actively seeking a job. This is also joined with job placement assistance, which helped me greatly. I received numerous job interviews and offers before I fully finished the program. I am now a full time employee up finishing the program making a competetive industry salary for entry level developers.
CodeCrew Code School is a dynamic program that I recommend any adult wanting to get their head start into computer programming should take. You will learn how to code, what the industry is looking for, how to go about securing a job, and more so than anything what it is like to be a true computer programmer. I will add that if you want great success from this program, you must be willing to work hard and great results will come in your favor.
As an alumni, I can honestly say that this school not only delivers on it's promise of quality instruction but also provides each student with tailored guidance and personal investment in his or her success. I entered this program with some prior coding experience and the staff nutured that into a powerful skillset. I actually landed a fulltime job as a Software Developer with a market salary plus benefits and could not be more satisfied with my experience. CodeCrew's Code School delivers....

So over all the code school was great they gave me a thorough and in-depth curriculum to teach me a host of programming languages and frame works. They gave me basic knowledge on things such as terminals and the command line, also getting me familiar with Git and version control. So over all the code school was great they gave me a thorough and in-depth curriculum to teach me a host of programming languages and frame works. They gave me basic knowledge on things such as terminals and the command line, also getting me familiar with Git and version control. The soft skills training was a godsend because not only do they give you these skills to learn how to make money. They teach you how to communicate and be pleasant and the type of person someone wants to hire. Also the financial literacy was amazing before this program I never thought twice about a budget or a credit score. Seeing as how those are two tough topics code school definitely taught us how to look at them head on, grab them by the horns, and get in control. The instructors are amazing, they are completely opposites so they give the program a nice balance. So they have a super structured instructor and a more in-depth instructor, and since all people learn different it works perfect because you will always need structure but for a better understanding there always needs to be a little deviation and that duo is perfect for it! They are willing to answer and help you with anything and are available all hours of the day and week even on breaks. Now I went into this program with NO experience and throughout the program I was a cashier at Walgreens and also a single parent of 3. Code school was able to work with me, teach me, polish me, and present me to employers in a way that made me irresistible and I was presented with 3 job offers before graduation day. Now I am gainfully employed as a Junior Software Developer! If you would have told me this would be my life 6 months ago I probably would have laughed at you. But I am living proof that code school is for the determined and strong willed and if you give this program your all it will open oh so many doors and you will be taking steps to your new life. To me this program embodies the old saying “If you give a hungry man a fish you feed him for a day, but if you teach him how to fish you feed him for a lifetime”, and that couldn’t be more true about code school!
