AI IN CODING BOOTCAMPS

  • A Goldman Sachs article from April reports that two-thirds of US occupations could be transformed by AI. 
  • Quartz looked at how General Assembly has been incorporating AI into their program to keep pace with technology and the near future needs of employers.
  • Flatiron School launched a portfolio of new AI training programs, designed to empower students with the expertise required to leverage emerging AI tools. 
  • Brainstation announced their Professional Certificate in Artificial Intelligence, which kicks off June 14th.

THE UPS & DOWNS OF TECH HIRING IN MAY

  • Lightcast broke down the state of IT hiring in the U.S., and how it shows demand (and salaries!) have increased for tech talent outside of Big Tech companies. 
  • Technical.ly published a look into early career tech talent and their challenges right now, specifically focusing on what we can do to make it easier for newcomers. 
  • In response to the global shortage of cybersecurity workers and a lack of diversity in the current tech workforce, Google unveiled a Cybersecurity Career Certificate.
  • Code Fellows launched an Education Rescue Scholarship, designed to help students who have invested money in a college or university or even a bootcamp and have not found rewarding careers in tech.

BRIDGING THE TECH GAP

  • In The Job newsletter, Paul Fain took a closer look at the effects of 3 non-profit coding bootcamps: Code The Dream, Code Tenderloin, and Refcode.
  • RefreshMiami reported that tech non-profit, INIT received a $400K grant from the Knight Foundation.
  • Axios wrote about the expansion of The Last Mile program to 16 facilities throughout seven states.
  • UK-based bootcamp, Northcoders announced a new Gender Diversity Fund that is applicable to its upcoming July 2023 cohort. 

REGULATORY NEWS

  • According to Higher Ed Dive, Moody’s Investor Services expects the Department of Education guidance on OPMs to create heavier administrative burdens and greater expenses for colleges with large OPM contracts. 
  • Tech Elevator and Ada Developers Academy both announced a round of layoffs this May.
