BrainStation has tripled its physical footprint in NYC with its expanded flagship campus in SoHo! BrainStation Founder and CEO, Jason Field, walks us through what students can expect at this new campus, the bootcamps and courses they’ll teach in New York City, and how BrainStation is equipped to help students make career pivots and upskill in the city. Plus, find out which companies are hiring NYC bootcamp graduates from BrainStation’s large employer network.
BrainStation just expanded its NYC location – what is the expanded NYC campus like?
Demand for our courses and bootcamps has skyrocketed globally, so we’ve been expanding to meet that demand with significant investments around the world. For example, we recently opened a new campus in London and have now expanded our New York operations with a dramatically larger campus.
The BrainStation campus (and global headquarters) is located on the beautiful Crosby Street in SoHo, right around the corner from our original campus and headquarters. This campus features over 35,000 square feet of classrooms, broadcast studios, event spaces, and offices in a stunning, early 20th-century heritage building.
Like our other campuses around the world, we expect this to continue being a dynamic hub for the city. The layout and design were carefully considered to accommodate and welcome the NYC tech community into our space.
What is the NYC tech scene like in 2022?
Like many things in New York, the tech scene here is busy, varied, and growing fast. Last year, we saw a record amount of venture funding and startup public exits, with more than $52 billion raised by venture-backed startups in New York after companies including Warby Parker, Squarespace, and WeWork went public. That’s more than double the amount raised in 2020! With 9,000 startups and 100 incubators, New York’s tech ecosystem is definitely one of the strongest in the country.
But the startup scene is only part of the story here in New York. When we talk about jobs in tech, we’re often talking about innovative startups, but New York is home to all sorts of companies looking to hire tech talent in industries like financial services, healthcare, retail, and media. This diversity of New York is what makes it so unique!
Why is NYC the right location for a coding bootcamp like BrainStation?
Job growth in the technology sector is outpacing the rest of the U.S. economy by three to one, with nearly 800,000 tech jobs currently available. And as I mentioned above, New York City is playing a leading role in this growth, but it needs tech skills to meet this opportunity. Through our suite of tech bootcamps and short-form courses, we will train thousands of professionals and organizations across New York in the coming years. We want to prepare the city’s workforce for the fastest-growing and highest-paying jobs in software development, data science, user experience (UX) design, product management, and digital marketing.
What sets the NYC campus apart from other bootcamps in the city?
Like all other BrainStation campuses, the SoHo campus was carefully designed to provide an unmatched learning experience with world-class facilities and amenities; bright, engaging, brick and beam classrooms; and conference and event spaces that encourage networking and collaboration.
We’re very proud to be in SoHo, which over the last few years has transformed into a fast-growing center of innovation.
Which bootcamps and courses will BrainStation be offering at its NYC campus?
We will be offering the full complement of our immersive, project-based bootcamps, including data science, UX design, web development, and digital marketing. These will be offered in both part-time and full-time formats.
To meet demand, we will also be expanding our offering of part-time certificate courses, allowing professionals of all levels the chance to develop new job-ready skills in areas like data analytics, product management, social media marketing, UX design, and more.
And as we have been doing for the past four years (predating COVID), we will continue to offer our courses and bootcamps online, through our industry-leading online learning platform. One of the many advantages of the expanded campus space is a range of additional broadcast suites, which will allow us to provide more online learning opportunities for professionals across the country.
What kinds of instructors can students expect to learn from at the NYC campus?
Students in New York can expect to see subject matter experts from digital-first brands, such as Google, Amazon, Spotify, and Meta in our classrooms — but instructors of this caliber are not unique to our New York campus! BrainStation instructors are the best of the best. We follow an intensive interviewing process that ensures our students are only exposed to the most accomplished industry experts who also excel at teaching.
Does BrainStation have partnerships with NYC tech companies to help graduates land a job quickly after bootcamp?
Yes, absolutely. BrainStation's Career Accelerator Program is a major component of all bootcamps, helping graduates prepare for their career search and connecting them with an unmatched network of over 6,500 hiring partners. In New York that includes top companies such as Mastercard, Peloton, Verizon, Shutterstock, Spotify, Compass, Target, JPMorgan, Microsoft, and American Express, among many others.
What sort of jobs have you seen BrainStation graduates getting in NYC?
BrainStation bootcamps are fully project-based, which means that students have the opportunity to gain real-world experience and build a portfolio of completed projects. This allows them to jump directly into new careers as Data Scientists and Data Analysts, UX and UI Designers, Product Designers, Web Developers and Software Engineers, as well as a range of roles in digital marketing and product management.
What’s exciting about this moment in time is that organizations across all industries are now looking for tech talent in these areas, which really puts professionals with the right skills at an advantage in the job market and gives them tremendous career opportunities.
