    Introduction

I'm a student now but my experiences with this course are so bad that I feel an urge to warn people before investing their money in this course. I have to also mention that I asked them to give me money back, because of my bad experiences with stream 1 I'm going to write about below. There is also stream 2 and stream 3 I've no taken yet.

    Stay Away

Don't waste your money. I've completed the 12 week bootcamp and let me tell you you will need a lot more than this to secure a decent role in Coding with a reputable employer. I'd prefer to invest my money in an established University where I can gain global recognition.

Highly recommend the Full Stack Developer bootcamp @ Code Institute for anyone looking for a career in coding/ tech - well worth the investment!

I completed Code Institute's 13 week Full Stack developer bootcamp in April 2016. Before applying to Code Institute, I did quite a bit of research on bootcamps in both Ireland and the UK. The three key reasons I believe I made the best choice in going with Code Institute are as follows:

    1. The course content is driven by industry/ employer demands:
Code Institute have an Industry Advisory Council (IAC) made up of a number of industry experts and employers who they meet with...

    Worth the money

I did the fulltime course. Over four or five months (if you include the pre-course materials) I went from knowing absolutely nothing about coding to being able to build a website with a registration, login, and payment facility and deploy it online. I also got loads of experience in finding out the answers to problems I encounter by looking for them online, and a sense that this is a normal part of web development, so that after the course I know how to solve problems when I no longer have...

    Excellent course

This is a fantastic bootcamp. I took the 12 week classroom based bootcamp and have never looked back.

The first month is about everything front-end. Whats front end ? Its the look and feel of the website. Its how everything lines up and how the user feels when using your webpage. The skills taught in this area are HTML,CSS,Javascript,Jquery and more.

The main thing about this course is there is always more to learn. You are given the tools to continue learni...

    Great way to learn programming

I completed the 12 week bootcamp in classroom. The experience was great. I had very basic HTML knowledge before starting the course and now feel comfortable trying out any new technology. More than the languages and frameworks that are actually taught the process of learning and how to solve problems was the biggest takeaway.

The technologies used in the course are very up to date. I attended a careeers fair in Dublin a few weeks after finishing the course. Employers were suprise...

    Not worth the cost

The short answer is the course is a full stack program, but it's absolutely not worth the money.

I completed approx 70% of the learning material and submitted 3 projects before deciding that the Code Institute boot camp was a waste of time.

Online boot camps have a lot of cheaper alternatives to contend with and that can present a problem for boot camps, who must have something special to bring them beyond someone seeking cheaper alternatives.

    Hi Keith,

It’s disappointing to read your thoughts on our Full Stack Software Development programme. However, some of your comments are unfair and incorrect.

Firstly, we would like to point out that our programme is incomparable to any free online coding course. We have set our standards very high and have had our course content credit-rated to a university level. We also offer unrivaled support from Student Care, Career Services, and Mentors. Our Tutors are available to advise students 24 hours a day, five days a week and from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Regarding your issues, we have highlighted some points below.

    • We receive very positive feedback on the HTML Essentials section of our programme, and it scores very highly. The requirements for the challenges may appear strict because we want to test what you’ve just learned in this unit, not what you may have already learned in previous units.
    • The Assessment Handbook on the LMS provides details of the requirements for each project and the criteria against which it will be assessed.
    • Mentors are available to bring their industry expertise and guidance to all students working on projects and a broad range of session times are accommodated.
    • We have an amazing Community on Slack that includes not only students, but also staff, mentors, and tutors. It is also very important to note that many of our alumni partake in our channels to continually help others through their journey.
    • Regarding our career crunches. The career seminars run live 2-3 times a week, generally at lunchtime. This time accommodates what our surveys have told us is the optimum time for most available students. Also, many of these seminars are recorded and available on-demand.

If you would like to discuss your project feedback or any other aspect of our course, please contact our Student Care team.

    Kind regards,
    The Code Institute Team.

    Diploma in Software Development

Code Institute's Diploma in Software Development is a full-stack web development bootcamp, which you can take full-time (4 months) or part-time (up to 14 months). Although I was unemployed at the time, I eventually chose the part-time option as I didn't want to commit to a full 8-hour-a-day obligation. It eventually took me just over 7 months to complete the course, precisely the time I set myself in the beginning.

TL;DR: my experience with the course, the topics covered,...

    Full Stack Developer - Online

I have only done a few intro coding courses with free online resources before this course. The online course started off well with the HTML, CSS modules but then JavaScript and Python modules were intensely complicated, covering a lot of concepts and the majority of the time I was left to research and google on my own to understand what was being taught, tutor support is available but i would have to wait on average 45 - 120 mins for each question and that is not a guarantee they could h...

    Dear Karen,

We are sorry that you are unhappy with your experience.

As an intensive, university credit-rated programme, there is no doubt that the Fullstack Diploma is challenging - but we believe the reward of a complete career change in 12 months is very much worth it.

Many students find Javascript and Python especially challenging, and we’re here to provide guidance and support to students every step of the way. In order to succeed, however, it is vital that students make use of all the supports available to them.

Code Institute prides itself on our supportive learning environment, and proper, consistent use of our supports by students is key to success on the programme.

Our Support team works hard to ensure a best-in-class service. As with most support services, wait times may occur, especially when providing one-to-one real-time support, as is the case with our tutoring, mentoring and Student Care supports. We have robust relationship management systems in place that are designed to minimise wait times, but when they do occur we always let students know how long you should expect to wait.

Our tutors come from a variety of software development backgrounds, including former students who have gone through a rigorous recruitment and training process that ideally places them to support students.

Everything we do in Code Institute is focused on the success of our students, including our assessment system. Of course, as the only university credit-rated coding bootcamp, we must also adhere to strict and rigorous assessment standards. We provide clear guidance on specific assessment criteria and our Student Care team is always at hand to provide further clarification if required. It is also true that our assessment team offers a variety of feedback to students, including practical feedback to help you to excel in a real-world development environment. This is all very much done with our student's success in mind.

Your mentor was indeed correct in saying that developers use Google a lot. It’s just one of the tools, along with sites like Stack Overflow, that are key to solving problems for yourself. Indeed, troubleshooting and problem solving are key soft skills that we actively promote at Code Institute. And while figuring out problems for yourself might be frustrating at times, the reward of solving a problem is what motivates millions of developers to persevere every single day.

We wish you the best of luck in your future career, and we’re here to further discuss any of these issues with you further. Please feel free to contact our Student Care team at any time.

    Kind Regards,

The guy who gave 2 stars is an idiot

This is a coding bootcamp, not a graphic design course.

Everythin was excellent. By the end of this course I had the knowlege to build clones of most major websites on the internet today. My final project was a dating website which had practically identical features to Twitter and Facebook.

The emphasis is mainly on learning to program, which is great because its (in my opinion) the most important aspect of web design. The two star guy is obviously an idiot who doesn'...

    Mr

Personally, I think that a lot of negative reviews here are a bit unfair.

Before you enroll in this course you really need to acknowledge that you're about to commit to a studying grind and you need to be prepared for that. Codeinstitute presents itself really well i.e. they have all this support in place (slack, tutors, mentors, syllabus etc) but ultimately you will still be struggling a lot, and often you will be required to suss out a solution by yourself as th...

    Hi Mr.,

Thank you for your feedback; we are happy to hear that you were pleased with the support offered. We work hard to ensure that the standard of support available is exceptionally high. Also, it's great to hear that you secured a tech role due to the course you completed. Our Careers Support team would be delighted to provide you with a careers consultation if you're pursuing a career in tech. Please do get in touch so that we can arrange this with you.

As a university credit-rated programme, students are required to complete the course within the agreed timeframe. As you vitally pointed out, commitment and motivation are needed. We make this absolutely clear from the outset.

The success of our students demonstrates that the programme is achievable. However, ongoing work and use of all of our support pillars are essential ingredients to progressing along the course and graduating with a University recognised Diploma in FullStack Software Development.

We do provide students with extensions. This is based on our extenuating circumstances policy. All details are contained in your student handbook or can be discussed directly with the StudentCare team. A fair, transparent experience is delivered to all our students.

In terms of course progress, our StudentCare team checks in regularly with students. We notify students in advance if their access is coming to an end. Our Student Care team is always available to discuss your progress in detail at any time, and they'd be happy to talk through your experience further with you and answer any questions you may have.

Everything we do in Code Institute is focused on helping our students to change careers and become employable FullStack Software Developer. We provide best-in-class support to help our students progress and secure employment. However, it is up to the student to commit and complete their projects in an agreed time frame.

We would like to discuss your issues with you further - please do email our Student Care Team so that we can do so.

We wish you all the best in your tech career.

    Bad experience

I spent £5000 on the full stack web developer course and was very disappointed at the assessment criteria and then even more disappointed at being charged an extra £100 on top of the £5000 already paid to resubmit an assessment. I can't comment on the classroom based course but do not sign up for the distanced learning course, the support just isn't there.
